Dates in Wikipedia articles

Two date formats are commonly used in Wikipedia articles: December 2, 2009 and 2 December 2009. These are referred to as alphanumeric dates. The first is used in articles with a connection to the United States, and the second in articles relating to most Commonwealth countries (although no preference is expressed for Canada). In articles with no particular national affiliation, to prevent needless edit warring, the established date format should not be changed. However any given article should use just one of the two formats consistently. Dates that are all numeric are highly discouraged to avoid confusion, however if used must be in the YYYY-MM-DD format and never in YYYY-DD-MM format.

Possible conflict of interest

[edit]

Hi InklingScholarWycliffeHall, thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. The link on your user page suggests that you have a scholarship from Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. Please could you review the conflict of interest guideline? If you have a conflict of interest we ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this. TSventon (talk) 22:38, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, InklingScholarWycliffeHall

Thank you for creating The Seasons' Difference.

User:MrClog, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:

I have removed the large quotations from Frederick's memoir, as they are copyright violations. Either describe the quotations in your own words or quote a smaller portion of the text

@MrClog:, thank you for reviewing The Seasons' Difference.
InklingScholarWycliffeHall, I recommend reading Wikipedia:Quotations#Overuse to understand Wikipedia's policy.
I have tagged the other related articles that you have created or added to for over-quotation:

{{Re|MrClog}} {{Re|TSventon}} Hi, apologies, still fairly new to the protocols of Wikipedia, especially as to how one is to conduct conversations on talk pages. With that in mind, I'm sorry if my reply isn't in the right format (which it almost definitely won't be). As to your concern regarding the articles I have uploaded, I have gone through and corrected them, bringing them in line with community guidelines.~~~~ 17:36, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Taiwan Seminary, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Yangming Mountain (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Information icon Hello, I'm Gab4gab. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, University of Chicago Divinity School, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Gab4gab (talk) 12:49, 3 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Montreal School of Theology requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from mst-etm.ca/about-us/#brief-history. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. CommanderWaterford (talk) 21:36, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CommanderWaterford, thanks for picking this up. I have made the necessary edits so that the sections in question are now original, and are no longer in infringement of copyright. I decided to create a Wikipedia Article for MST over a year ago, before I had joined the Wikipedia community, and so was unaware of the copyright rules when I first wrote the proposed article. When I returned to the document to upload it today I did not realise that, when I had originally written it, I had violated the copyright rules, about which I am now well aware. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Telling Secrets (memoir) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Telling Secrets (memoir), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. Currently it does not have a single independent source, and zero sourcing to show it meets WP:GNG or WP:NBOOK. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. I moved Secrets in the Dark: a life in sermons to Secrets in the Dark per WP:SUBTITLES: in this case the subtitle is neither most commonly used nor needed for disambiguation purposes. For future reference however, note that book titles (including subtitles) are proper nouns, and so should be in generally be written in title case (see MOS:CAPTITLE and WP:TITLEFORMAT for more background). Lastly, the {{Infobox book}} italicizes the article title by default, so long as the field | italic title= is empty or has a value of "forced". Thus in most cases there is no need to add {{DISPLAYTITLE}} unless the article title requires a complicated mix of italicized and unitalicized text. Cheers, --Animalparty!
