becoming an administrator
One becomes an administrator through the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship process, either nominating yourself or being nominated by another editor who appreciates your contributions to the project and believes that you would handle the adminstrative tools in a way that would benefit the project. In order to have any chance to gain enough support from the community, you will need to have been a productive member of the community for a significant period of time and show that you know an understand Wikipedia's policies. Active Banana (talk) 04:58, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
Please note that content needs to be supported by reliable third party sources such as those non-blog sources found with news.google.com searches or books.google.com Active Banana (talk) 04:08, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
- From my user page "using adultswim.com as source for a episode of the boondocks is a reliable source. The boondocks airs on adultswim. and adultswim is not a blog." It is not a reliable THIRD PARTY source. Having significant coverage by third party sources is required to meet the WP:N requirement for a stand alone article. Active Banana (talk) 02:13, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- WP:N if there is NO content that is from reliable third party sources, then we should not have an article about the topic. Active Banana (talk) 21:27, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

11 days, thanks. Inka 888 23:07, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
- OK; I've set up this page for auto-archiving.
Normally, I prefer to explain how to do stuff, but in the case of archive set-up, it's easier to just do it for you. The code to make it work is here; the bot should start within 24 hours.
It's set to 11 days (11d), which you can of course change. Note that a) it won't archive very small threads or things with no sigs in (ie no date) - you can cut those yourself and paste them into the archive page if you want.
So - that's about it; no action required, just let the bot do its thing, and - if I've done it correctly - all should be well. If it goes wrong, of course, give me a shout. Chzz ► 06:31, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Post that concerns you at admin noticeboard
Hi, Inka. I wanted to inform you of a thread I posted to the Administrator's Noticeboard for Incidents. I'll ask your pardon in advance if I'm mistaken, but I've seen some things (documented there) that lead me to believe that you could be associated with one or more other accounts that have been rather a problem in the past week or so. You can post any reply you might like to make to me personally right here on your talk page, just below this message. I won't miss it, since I've put this page on my "watchlist" to make sure I don't. And, of course, you might also like to reply at WP:ANI. Probably the best way to find the post would be to go to the ANI page and just search with your browser's search function for your user ID there. If you don't see this message for some time, the thread could already have closed, and you might have to search the ANI archives to find it. Again, I'm sorry if my perceptions of the facts I've seen may have misled me, if you're not, in fact, associated with these other accounts. Best regards, – OhioStandard (talk) 10:56, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, again, Inka. I just wanted to admit my mistake here: I've retracted the suggestion I made at ANI that you might be the same person as the other accounts I mentioned there, and have
struck-throughthe relevant passages. Sorry for making the mistake. Best, – OhioStandard (talk) 14:55, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Reviewer authorization
Hi again, Inka. As I was cleaning up a few things I noticed you'd just been granted "Reviewer" permission. I'm probably not the best person to say this, given my own mistake just above, but will you please go very, very slowly with that, at first? And will you especially make sure you completely understand all the relevant polices that apply to the use of that permission before you start? I only ask because many of the comments above on this page appear to express frustration over what people seem to have interpreted as an unwillingness on your part to read through the documentation. It's great that you want to help out with admin-like duties – I appreciate that, truly – but the more permissions you get the easier it becomes to mess things up in a bigger way, too. Hope you don't mind my saying so, and asking you to read up on how to use the tool before you jump in with both feet. Thanks, – OhioStandard (talk) 15:24, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Inka 888. I just had a look through your contributions and I must say, looking much better! Just a quick reminder - be sure that you are actually reverting vandalism, edits like this are not vandalism. With all due respect, I'd like to wait a few more days before adding the right to your account; I think a few more days of experience wouldn't hurt. Keep up the good work, I'll be watching. License tagging for File:Black and white golf ball..jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Black and white golf ball..jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:05, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how you're doing it, but you're putting the contents of the image tag rather than the image tag itself on the page. If you click "edit this page" on the image description page, you'll see a whole lot of stuff on the page, rather than a simple {{Attribution}}. --Carnildo (talk) 03:00, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Archiving
Hiya,
I just checked back to see that the archiving worked, and it did; I also notice that you 'manually archived' lots into archive number 2 - that's fine, except that the header was still set to archive into archive number 1, and would continue to do so until it reached a size of 100Kb...so, I just changed the counter to |counter = 2
.
That means any further auto-archives will go into the 2nd archive, until it fills up—at which point it will automatically change to a '3'. Hope that makes sense, best, Chzz ► 15:31, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Clarification Needed
Exactly what did you mean by this statement? It is not helpful in the least to your cause of getting Rollbackers. If you are saying if you get a mentor, even if it is me, that you will not listen, that is likely to come back and bite you whenever you request any kind of tool. I recommend you clarify here and on ANI what you meant by that. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 09:29, 5 September 2010 (UTC)
- I wouldn't worry about it - the damage is done. Hard to get that genie back into the bottle.
- The simple thing Inka: for ANYONE to get rollback, they have to have a history of fixing vandalism manually first. All 3 denials have said that they don't see enough. This is not rocket science: you get permissions based on actions (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:59, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Request for Rollback and Using Twinkle
Something you are doing using Twinkle is not correct. Are you using Firefox when using Twinkle? If so (and you should be), ensure that popups are allowed from Wikipedia, either that or ensure you put the article into the appropriate field in the Warn Template, otherwise, what happens (as is with your use of TW) is that the warnings left for users dont tell them where they made a mistake. Also, you still have a few improper uses of TW (use only one warning/note per violation for one, and secondly, ensure you have selected the correct (or most appropriate) warning).
Also, I note in roughly the last 48 hours, instead of working on vandalism reverts, you have spent more time requesting rollback. While that is your choice, it of course hasnt increased your vandalism reverts much since others last discussed it and suggested you perform more vandalism-revert work. You can check that here: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions&target=Inka_888 . While you may be watching your edit count increase, Wikipedia (pretty) easily allows tracking anti-vandalism related edits as opposed to other forms of edits. In roughly 48 hours, you've had approx 100 edits, of which, I have found only six vandalism reverts (most of which, did not have Twinkle used properly). On top of that, you've edited Wikipedia:Manual of Style which is probably a page (minor edit or not) that you should not be working on - instead, feel free to suggest changes on it's talk page.
As a side note, I have rollback rights, and Huggle installed - and I prefer to use Twinkle instead, as (for me) it's a little easier to use without the risk of making a mistake. Huggle makes things quicker for me - a LOT quicker, but at the expense of making mistakes. Yes, there is a lot of vandalism on Wikipedia, and yes, WP needs all the help it can get fighting it as quickly as possible, but the most important part of it is ensuring that such things are dealt with correctly. That is far more important than how much vandalism one deals with. I've found I can do 1-2 reverts a minute, while taking my time, and using Twinkle (or occasionally, Rollback). Taking Huggle out of the equation, there isn't much I could do any better simply using Twinkle. Yes, I do go to Huggle every now and then, or use rollback as provided by rollbacker rights, but I believe you honestly can be just as helpful without it, and will be less prone to mistakes.
Just one other note; I had ten to twenty times the number of vandalism reverts as you, and years of experience doing such work elsewhere before I was granted rollback privileges. So, dont get discouraged if the answer remains no (at this time). Instead, learn how to use Twinkle better, and spend some time making better reverts (even if it means sacrificing speed). Twinkle is far easier to use than Huggle, and you have yet to master Twinkle. If I were you, I'd do more reverts, wait a couple months (not hours), and then request again.

- What is wrong with the way i'm using twinkle? Inka 888 04:06, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- Inka, read the post and you will have your answer. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 04:12, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- When you hit "Rollback (Vandal)" does it pop up the user's talk page in a new window? It should be. If not, then make sure you are using Firefox (NOT Internet Explorer) and that popups for Wikipedia are enabled (add en.wikipedia.org to the allowed list). Then when you use it, ensure you dont clear the article name. The reverts of yours I have checked do not have the articles mentioned on the user's talk pages, thus they may never know where they made the mistake.
- Also, be careful that you pick the correct warning or note to leave - and only leave one per incident. Always assume good faith. Be careful what welcome template you use - various of them indicate to the other editor that you are a sufficiently experienced editor to help them use WP properly and edit properly, but honestly, you should probably wait until you make such offers (via the tools) to others.
- Question #1: How do you find what pages you select to revert vandalism? Do you just surf through pages? Is there someplace special on Wikipedia you go?
- Question #2: When you find a page where you suspect vandalism, what do you do next? Do you revert from there, or is there another link you check first?
- Question #3: Are there cases where you should revert directly or check something else (refers to Q1 AND Q2) beforehand?
- I'm not being funny... I would like to know what knowledge you have in these areas, and how I can help expand that knowledge. Then perhaps in the time frame the editors have proposed at ANI, you will be ready and fully versed. That also means, feel free to ask me questions. I dont know everything, BUT, if I dont know it, I will find out the answer for you.
- Answer #1: I look for vandalism in recent changes.
- Answer #2: In cases when am not sure i will compare the versions.
- Answer #3: almost never.
Inka 888 04:28, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, first, I've broken this off into another section, since you've got some time ahead before you should request rollback again, and this pertains more to helping you with Twinkle.
- Great answers (and correct). So, let's move forward.
- First, have you figured out why when you use TW, it isnt putting the article link onto the user's talk page in the TW warning? If not, let me know and I will help you to try to figure out why (first try the tips I posted above). Also, be aware that many of the other TW tools also allow you to specify (or if used correctly, will automatically specify) the article in question. This is important for various of TW's other tools, as an article name is required for some of them (like CSD or PROD).
- Now, some tips. Even now, with over a thousand reverted vandalism attempts, I still virtually always check the page diff. Here's one (of numerous possible) example of why. I've run into situations where an editor with an account makes an addition, then an anon blanks a whole section of the page. Numerous of the tools, especially huggle and the extended theme for WP, will flag it as possible vandalism due to section blanking. I have found cases where the editor with an account has added large amounts of nonsense (vandalism) and an anon, not realizing they should have made an edit/revert summary and alert the user, has fixed the issue and made their edit look like vandalism. Should you absolutely always check page diffs? Not necessarily - but it never hurts to, and it is best to check virtually all the time until you're more familiar with the tools.
- Next, again, quality is better than quantity. Always err on the side of caution... if you miss one, someone else will catch it at some point.
- Ensure you are not walking into an ongoing edit war. In such cases, reverting is not the answer. Reporting it to an Admin via the appropriate page is what's the correct thing to do. Do you know which page to use for that?
- Learn how to report blatant, repeat violators/vandalizers. There is a tool in TW to do that. You MUST make sure it meets the requirements (recent vandalism, sufficient number of warnings - or the account in question is definitely a vandalism only account).
- Spend an hour or a few each day you have time concentrating on nothing other than vandalism. Stay focused. This will help ensure your numbers rise and that your focus/accuracy is on the issue at hand (reverting vandalism).
- Ensure you are always working from the most recent "Recent Changes" page. Reload before EVERY instance of vandalism revert.
- Spend some time on the TW documentation page (and the ones it references) reading up on the explanation for each message/warning, and when each is applicable. Use the one most applicable for the most severe offense committed - while at the same time assuming (when possible) good faith. In this, it is best to err on the side of caution.
- Dont vandal revert for things like unsourced additions that otherwise seem valid. Add a citation needed tag - or do a regular revert then a notification (via TW) to the user page.
- Always feel free to ask for help.
- * Go look for a mentor and ask for help, suggestions, and (most importantly in this case) a review of your actions. Accept their criticism with equal grace as you would their compliments. You will find information on Mentorship here: Wikipedia:Mentorship and can find how how to request a Mentor here: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User/Adoptee's_Area. One advantage of having a mentor, is that with them working with you, they'll help guide you along to a point where (among other things) you may end up being granted rollback rights, and they will (when they think you are ready) possibly even sponsor you for it.
- * Find an admin you are comfortable with going to for bigger issues. Believe it or not, Fastily would have been a great choice. In the years I have been online, and the almost year I've had an account, Fastily has always been fair and helpful in every issue I have had or had been involved with.
- Hope that helps. Now, do you have any questions?
CSD
Please do not issue CSD templates for image talkpages as you did here. I recommend reading WP:TW/DOC, as it seems you are having trouble learning when and where to use TWINKLE. Remember, if you misuse TWINKLE, it can be taken away. Not saying this is the case in this situation, but just a note. If you have questions, feel free to ask myself or an admin, we are always open to help. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 22:21, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Twinkle
Hi Inka,
In this thread, administrator DGG made an administrative decision to revoke your Twinkle access and added you to the blacklist.
It appears you still have access to the tool somehow, perhaps because your cache hasn't been refreshed or something of the sort.
Please enter Special:Preferences → Gadgets and disable Twinkle and bypass your cache.
You may request to be removed from the Twinkle blacklist after a reasonable amount of time editing manually.
You should ask DGG (talk · contribs) in the first instance; but if you are unsatisfied with the response, you could also request a review of the decision at WP:AN. –xenotalk 01:38, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Use of Welcome Templates
Hi Inka 888, earlier I recommended that you be careful about leaving welcome templates on new users pages. It seems you've been leaving a bunch of them recently. Here's the text of one of them:
- "Hello H2iam, welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Our intro page contains a lot of helpful material for new users—please check it out! If you need help, visit Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on this page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Inka 888 10:42 pm, Today (UTC−4)"
Note that it tells the new user you are available to help them with their questions. While I think it is commendable that you are welcoming new users, I suspect you may wish to spend more time familiarizing yourself with Wikipedia before you are posting welcome messages offering to help these new users. Also, you should know that there is actually a Wikipedia Welcoming Committee that does just that task, so dont worry, if you dont welcome them, chances are someone else will. You may also wish to consider that putting welcome templates on new users pages does not help with revert counts, or mainspace page edit counts; so, it really doesnt help that much for anything.
At this point, it's up to you whether you want to continue doing that, but I know I'd heed the suggestion if it was given to me.
Best, RobertMfromLI | User Talk 02:56, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion, I think most questions a brand new user would ask would be something I could answer. Thanks again for all your suggestions, I'm sorry if I'm shooting down a lot of them. Inka 888 03:17, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
- No problem... though I think things may have went easier for you if you had listened to a few instead. What's MOS? Why did you recently put a warning on a user's talk page and remove a link to their website that was in their user space? (check mine out: User:RobertMfromLI - you will note I have quite a few links). What's AGF? Describe what a valid cite is? What magazines or companies can I use as references to reviews for musicians/bands/albums? For editors, what does the term weasle mean? What's a lede? How can I find out how to create or update a userbox or infobox or biobox? How do I add a date tag? What's uw-idt3? What's a coi? These are the tiniest portion of the questions a new user will ask help for, and I suspect you do not know the answer to a lot of them without searching for them.
- But anyway, I made my suggestion. If you get in over your head, ask for help. If you keep everything in control, then great! Best, RobertMfromLI | User Talk 03:24, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
user pages
- (edit conflict) Also, be sure to read all of WP:UP, particularly WP:UPNO and WP:UPYES. External links on a user page to someone's personal website are not inappropriate; I have a link to my blog on mine within an established Infobox and many other users do as well. That is perfectly within guidelines. Really, the only time you should be editing someone else's user page is for blatant violations of copyright, slander, or otherwise offensive material. --JonRidinger (talk) 03:29, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

- Recent Changes is not the place to use. Most of the maintainers use Huggle or similar tools that require access to IRC or Rollback. I'd suggest not changing it again because you dont have access to any of those tools. Best RobertMfromLI | User Talk 21:47, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

- If you make a separate template, you almost never want to put the entire code in the page. This applies to ANY template. Especially the User:/top. the code is longer than a recent article I wrote. I fixed the code for you. There is usually a short ShortCut for each template, put that in between the brackets({{}}), hit "show Preview" and check to see if it works.--intelati(Call) 20:38, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

If you go to here and see the signature I was working on when I try to put into the signature field in my preferences and also the signature got messed up somehow and it says 888 twice for my talk I don't know how to fix that either.
- Copied and pasted the content of your signature over there. Now, go to your preferences and in the Raw text for your signature part (It's something similar, if not the same) use {{subst:User:Inka 888/Signature}}. That will solve your problem. Anytime you want to edit your signature, do it on the special subpage. Cheers, --Diego Grez (talk) 01:33, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- You need to have the HTML formatting inside the link, after the pipe. If I understand what you are trying to do, then the correct syntax would be:
<font color="black">[[User:Inka 888|<b>I</b>n<b>k</b>a]]</font>[[User talk:Inka|<font color="gold">''888''</font>]]
which produces Inka888. If this is not what you wanted, feel free to ask. I advise you against using gold as your font colour; it is uncomfortably bright. You can find a variety of alternative shades here. Intelligentsium 01:31, 12 September 2010 (UTC)- I've corrected your sandbox link (Wikipedia titles are case-sensitive). Notice I use the HTML <b></b> rather than ''' ''' for the bold part of your username; this is better if you have bold alternating non-bold text in quick succession. Don't worry if you can't get your signature right; it's not exactly the most important element of contributing to Wikipedia. Intelligentsium 01:36, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

- What do you mean by probation? --Inka888 00:18, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- In the USA, You can get probation from a crime. Almost the same idea here at Wikipedia. Don't do anything wrong during that time, It's a done deal. - No, no, no, no... You aren't on any probation. It's just that for these two months of "hiatus" of asking for rollback the other editors are watching your edits. So I suggest that you try to keep your edits low-key and safe. After the two months, the Sysops will decide if you can reinstall twinkle, and maybe ever Rollback. Sorry about the confusion.--intelati(Call) 00:32, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

In regard to this edit, I recommend using standardized warning templates when you notify an editor that a page they created is up for speedy deletion. I don't know whether you were trying to do that or create a custom warning, but in this case the sentence "If you think the {{hagon}}
at the top of the page" was not a complete sentence, and also misspelled {{hangon}}. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 04:03, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- Crap, that looks awful. How do you use the standardized warning templates without twinkle? --Inka888 04:07, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Template messages/Deletion is a full list of page warnings and user warnings. i have this bookmarked for the times I need it.--intelati(Call) 04:09, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- If there is a speedy deletion template on a page, there will almost always be a reference to a template you can put on the article creator's user talk page. For example, if {{db-person}} is on a page (like it now is on the page Justin Kranz), it says near the bottom of the template:
- Please consider placing the template:
- {{subst:nn-warn|Justin Kranz|header=1}} ~~~~
- on the talk page of the author.
- So you can just copy that template and put it on the user talk page of the person you are giving the warning to. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 04:14, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

A Little Tip For You That May Help
Hi Inka 888, here's a little tip that I am not sure if you found yet. Apologies, if you already figured it out. Go into "My Preferences" and then to the "Gadgets" tab, then enable "Navigation Popups" - now, when on RecentChanges, you can mouse over the diffs to get a quick idea of what the diff is. For smaller to mid sized diffs (or any diff I need a preview of), I've found it pretty helpful. And it also works on many other links in Wikipedia (providing you page previews of regular links). Hope that helps you a bit! Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CONTRIBS 04:24, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- I actually forgot to tell you about this--intelati(Call) 04:34, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Ooops, sorry, one other tip about it. On RecentChanges, if you mouse over the contributing editor, you get their contribution list. And, if you mouse over their talk link, you get a subset of that, but the important part of this one is, you will sometimes see an image in the top right corner of their talk preview pop-up (such as a warning symbol). This can often give you an idea of whether you should look deeper into their edit. It doesnt always indicate they are a vandal though - sometimes it will indicate something like an image deletion notice or some other innocent notice. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CONTRIBS 04:49, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Full Protection
Normally one does not want to Fully protect a page. Only in edit wars where the parties do not agree, is the only common reason for fully protection. WP:RFP is the page for requests. Just explain that there is an edit war. then an Sysop will probably fully protect the page for no more than a week.--intelati(Call) 04:05, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- (RE: Edit War): First thing to do (at least, this is the way I do it) is (a) talk to those involved ("hey, let's hold for a second on the page reverts and talk about it on the article's talk page"), (b) (if that doesnt work) then drop warnings on everyone's page who is involved in the edit war - when I do that I add a polite message with it... for instance, if they are all experienced editors, I add "Hey, this isn't worth getting blocked for a 3RR or edit war violation... c'mon, let's come to a consensus on the article's talk page before things get out of hand" and then finally (c) if the polite reminders are ignored, or if things are escalating (editors calling each other names), then I report it. Sometimes I interchange (a) and (b) depending: for instance, if the edit war is getting out of control, I may start with (b) followed by polite conversations with those involved if they are so inclined.
- I just worked on stopping an edit war on Mariah Carey in that way. If you check my edit history, or view my talk page, you'll be able to find it (and the messages I left) via the links there to the users and their contributions. So far so good over there. They are now all actively discussing things on their talk page instead of blind reverting each other and calling each other names.
- Hope that helps, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 04:36, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, I meant more If one were to ask any sysop to edit. --Inka888 21:30, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Bill Verda
Hi again :). iSaw you changed the CSD rationale of Bill Verda form A7 to A3, saying "does not fit a7". The page's contents: Bill Mcdonald Verda ( born February 14, 1980 ) is an American actor., with a generic {{stub}}
template at the bottom and multiple maintenance tags. It does indeed, so I've changed it back. While I was writing this message, Quarl (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) deleted the page under WP:CSD#A7. Out of curiosity, why did you think it didn't fit A7? Airplaneman ✈ 03:36, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- The article had about three or four words in it when I changed it to A3, to fit under A7 an article usually has some content. --Inka888 03:48, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- Strictly speaking, I don't think it applied for Wikipedia:CSD#A3 since it gave his full name and birthday and added that he was an actor and American, but I see where you're coming from. I do believe A7 applied as well, however, as the page did not assert notability with the little content it contained. BTW, I stalk your talk, so no need for talkbacks :). Airplaneman ✈ 03:55, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- Since it did not say anything about his acting career, personal life, early life or anything else about him I still think it would fall under A3. --Inka888 04:01, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- Looks like we carry slightly different opinions on this one. That's fine; I still think A7 applied as well ;). BTW, I stalk your talk, so no need for talkbacks, Airplaneman ✈ 04:18, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Is this really necessary? Airplaneman ✈ 03:37, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

New page patrolling
Hi Inka, Nice to see you patrolling new articles. Quite a specialised task! If you can't use WP:Twinkle (completes the edit summary automaticaly and notifies the author) for any reason, please be sure to make a complete edit summary especially when tagging articles manually for deletion. 'no content' isn't really enough when it shows up on our watchlists. Try to use things such as 'CSD G10 attack' or whatever is appropriate. Cheers, --Kudpung (talk) 02:11, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

- On what gronds making mistakes is not on the grounds for blocking neither is WP:CIR. Inka888 03:30, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
- Inka 888, please read WP:CIR, then also consider that repeated bad reverts and bad warnings may also fall under disruptive edits (which is a blockable offense when it keeps getting repeated). I would also suggest more careful use of wording. When I am speaking to a more experience editor, I tend to word such things in the form of a question to gain better understanding of a situation that I clearly do not understand; that the more experienced editor (in this case, a sysop with a LOT of experience and a pretty fair hand in dealing with everyone) surely has a better understanding of than me. But again, that's just my suggestion. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 03:48, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

- Inka 888, that is not what you said. Here's just one example: "If you read the top of WP:HA that is what Neutralhomer is doing" - you outright claimed he was harassing you. I've suggested twice before that you slow down and consider your wording. I hope you listen to that advise, because, here's another example. You state, multiple times, that people cant take xxxx right away because they are wrong on Wikipedia's rules and guidelines, you state they are wrong on other things as well. Though you might not intend to do so, what you are writing implies that people like BeyondMyKen, Fastily, SarekOfVulcan, myself, Neutralhomer, and numerous other experienced editors and admins are all wrong (across three ANIs and multiple talk page conversations), and you are correct. I know you probably had no intentions of implying something so absurd, but your wording does imply that. Hence, again, (a) I'd suggest you choose your wording more carefully and (b) address the problems brought up by others instead of being so defensive about them and instead of making more mistakes. I fervently hope that this time, you take mine and everyone else's advice. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 04:31, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Resolving the issue on ANI
Hi. I have marked the issue about your behavior on ANI as resolved with a few comments that I feel I need to amplify for you:
- Your recent conduct has been very disruptive in a number of dimensions. We don't believe that you are being malicious, rather it has become obvious that for whatever reason, there seems to be a lack of understanding and perhaps poor contextual awareness behind many of your actions. You need to carefully think about each action you make going forward because if the general pattern of your behavior does not change, you will be blocked.
- The offer of mentoring made to you by Intelati (talk · contribs) is very generous. You should work with this user to try to better understand how this place works and what types of actions and comments are appropriate and what are not. Hopefully, the mentoring will be successful and you will blossom into a productive editor, working within our policies and customs. We've seen some amazing successes with relationships like these.

If I may interject here, and my apologies for intruding, although mentoring seems like a good idea and the current follow-up of studying the mentoring page seems like a logical step, I would like to ask a question that transcends knowledge of policy. I am referring to this edit by Inka: [3]. IMO this edit is independent of knowledge of any policy because it is a matter of simple logic. I would like to ask Inka what was the logic behind this edit. - Thank you for the reply Inka. Sorry but I did not see a justification for the edit although I did see it being mentioned at ANI. Your reply suggests to me that you should be a bit slower in reverting and that you should revert only after you get a good preview of the edit diff. I think that if you follow this simple strategy you should be ok. For more complex issues you should talk to your mentor and you are also welcome to ask me as well if you think I can help. Take care and good luck. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 03:09, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- Side note, that's the type of edit I'd assume good faith on. Looks like someone doesnt know how to properly style things. Woulda done a welcome on their page first, followed by an "editing test" note or a hand written note. But that's just me. On good faith messups, I always like starting with the welcome then note/polite warning. A few "vandals" have ended up turning out to be good contributors after that. (I owe this to a very patient admin who was advising me, btw. So I cant take credit except for following their advice). Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 04:05, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- It was obviously an editing test and as such an editing test note would have been appropriate. An editing test evalutation carries automatically with it the assumption of good faith (otherwise vandalism would have been assumed) and it is also reflected in the appropriate level 1 test note that is left on the user's talkpage (which is not as strong as the standard vandalism level 1 warning). Inka with some experience and mentorship will be able to distinguish between the different types of problem edits. I did not wish to elaborate on that too much since Inka is already taking enough advice from many different sides. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 07:51, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Vandal Fighting
(edit conflict) twice
The safest Vandal fighting you can do is make sure no article has the File:example.jpg in it. Here is the page with the articles that link to the file. Most of these can be simple to fix. First, check the history to see when it came up. Warn that editor with the {{subst:uw-test1}} template. Then Manually find and delete the edit. Try the Periodic table of elements page first.--intelati(Call) 04:21, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- Shouldn't I revert the edit first and warn them after? Are my reverts lately good ones, just wondering what you were thinking about it? --Inka888 20:58, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- You might not want to revert, you might just need to edit out the filename if the rest of the edit is good. People can add that file by accident if they click the image button and forget to paste in the filename, so a handwritten note to ask them to go back and actually add the image if that was what they set out to do might be better than a template in some circumstances. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 00:17, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Just on templates and files...right? --Inka888 00:21, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

- Is that a warning template? --Inka888 00:27, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- The template is the level 1 "use the sandbox" template. See here - the guy made a lengthy edit and accidentally added the example.jpg file. So I edited out the file and left a handwritten note - I think he probably did intend to add an image, but forgot to paste the filename. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 00:29, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Inka 888, I think I may understand what you are asking (or Elen or intelati already covered it), but you should be looking on the link intelati provided to find articles (definitely NOT templates) that have that image used. Unless it's an article about adding images (like the stuff in the help section), then the image shouldnt be in use in the article. After that, follow intelati's and Elen of the Roads' instructions, and make sure you remember these few things: (1) always assume good faith (even if it means you leave a polite note instead of a warning), (2) if you are not sure, simply skip it and ask intelati about it (this is a great way of learning on these things), (3) be careful you dont touch templates or WP/Wikipedia: pages that use it - the image probably belongs there, and if it doesnt, let someone more experienced remove it or ask intelati. Best of luck to you, and thank you, from all of us, for slowing down a little and asking questions before acting. We all appreciate it. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 00:37, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

- Inka, that's not patent nonsense. Patent nonsense means incoherent, nonmeaningful text or incoherent babble. A few examples would be "w45r6bbt6w397n4twb56tw54nb6nt954ntbn320h5w3n4w", "hi i like cheese yummy", or "susie is my love i wanna kiss her", well, you get the idea. Requesting speedy Deletion of Article
I just started working on a stub (Estero River (Florida)) and within 9 minutes you marked it for speedy deletion. You might want to try and 1) contact the writer before immediately marking something as such and 2) calm down and let people get it going before requesting an immediate removal. I wouldn't even think of doing this to someone else unless their article was vandalism. I'm sure it was in good faith but you might want to check someone's history first before tagging articles. (And remember, when you use a generic tag that tells people that they may want to go play in the sandbox, remember many of us have been here much longer than our user history suggests). Remember, sometimes people start things and they have to come back to them later due to interuptions. jswfl09 (talk) 06:11, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- I suggest you refrain from tagging articles altogether. Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 07:06, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- You probably should have tagged it as under construction. Sorry, --Inka888 19:18, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- Always keep in mind the onus to determine that is yours. If the editor forgets to tag it as under construction, you need to make that determination. In this case, what was appropriate would have been noticing that (checking the page history and realizing the article was just started), assuming it was under construction, and either (a) leaving it alone or (b) tagging it for the editor (as I did), or (c) leaving a very polite note saying nothing more and nothing less than "Hey, noticed you just created an article... maybe you might want to tag it as under construction or as a stub undergoing expansion" - remember, always assume good faith in such. Even if someone else makes a mistake (forgetting to tag the article in this case), your actions are still always your own and your own responsibility. - As I say to my son, "eventually sorry does not cut it. Don't do the behaviour and you won't need to say sorry". Inka, you regularly claim to understand policies again and again. Then it's painfully clear you don't. As part of your mentoring, you should be saying to your mentor "I would personally nom article X as CSD Y because...", but NOT nominate it yourself. That's the idea of mentoring. They can then tell you right or wrong as to why. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 22:51, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- It is mind numbing that this conversation is still going about a single mistake, I can't go back in time and fix and untag the article. I understand what has been said already, and I will work on my mistakes. I don't think anything more needs to be said. --Inka888 23:01, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- Actually Inka, it does. It does until you understand you can't go around making continous mistakes, saying "oops, sorry" and still editing. After awhile, like Bwilkins said, sorry just ain't gonna cut it. I would recommend asking your mentor before nominating anything for CSD or AFD, again as Bwilkins has said above. You are really on thin ice here, Dude. If you mess up at this point, during mentoring, there really isn't anyone going to be on your side. Take the advice from the admins and users above seriously and to heart, read and read again the policies until they are burnt into your brain, talk to your mentor about everything or an admin, but most of all...when in doubt...don't do it. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 23:10, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Here's the most mind-numbing part then: you are under an editing restriction for the next 30 days. Inka 888, sorry if it seems we jumped on changing it, but that's the purpose of the training while intelati (and his hopefully helpful helpers) are here. We can quickly undo mistakes without you having to worry about repercussions, all with various admins aware of what we are doing and that intelati is playing "damage control" in the event of a mistake. The Welcome templates can be kinda confusing. If you dont have Friendly enabled, then (per intelati's instructions above) enable it. It subdivides the welcome templates so you can figure them out easier - and of course still review the template pages he directed you to. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 02:49, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) If I may interject (back to the test edit thingy). Sometimes, people will make good faith additions, and simply mess up some piece of wikiformatting, for instance, {{infobox}. Can we find out why Inka thought that Intelati's example qualified as A3, which is for no content articles? Dr.K. λogosπraxis 04:14, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

- Because there were no references, or any real content on the article. --Inka888 04:31, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- Wrong. If there is any kind of content, real or not, then we cannot say there is no content. Remember: CSD A3 says: "No content whatsoever". It doesn't say "No real content". Dr.K. λogosπraxis 04:34, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

- A3 is for articles which only include links (internal or external), references, see also sections, a rephrasing of the title, section headers with no content underneath, attempt to contact the articles subject, or several of the above. I know I sound like a robot here, but whenever I use twinkle for NPPing, it throws that definition right in my face. Access Denied [FATAL ERROR] 04:40, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- Clarification: My version of TW says: "A3 No content whatsoever", but even under the full definition of the CSD A3 criterion it is clear that there must be no salvageable content for the criterion to apply. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 04:49, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi everyone, I'm working on the above page to provide examples of different CSD Criteria that Ive taken from Special:newpages. I'd appreciate anyone's help on this: I am striving for an example of each SCD Criterion. Just copy an applicable page from newpages, remove names if it is an attack page, then add it to my page under a new level2 header. This might help inka improve his knowledge of the speedy criteria while under the 30day NPP restriction., if we regularly point Inka to a random example and ask him to choose the correct criteria. Thanks, Access Denied [FATAL ERROR] 06:08, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- There's one like this somewhere - it's often referred to in RFA's as a test of candidates, and I think even as part of new admin school if I'm not incorrect. However, the more examples/tests the merrier! (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 13:32, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

- Not when it refers to a current in-place restriction or block. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:49, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

- FWIW, I don't think that the WP:BLANKING section of UP was intended to preclude archiving a thread notifying someone of an editing restriction. It may help to look at the page before some sweeping changes were made: [4]. I would guess that FT2 meant to refer to ban notices such as {{banned}}. –xenotalk 16:57, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- The editing I have done at WP:UP was not really intended to change the spirit of WP:BLANKING. Please feel free to refer to the previous wording if it needs fixing in any way. I think it's more that the wording has always been a bit ambiguous and that section might need some sharpening up. FT2 (Talk | email) 17:18, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Paradise trees.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Paradise trees.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:19, 24 September 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:19, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

- Do you think I know what I'm doing in with anti vandalism work. --Inka888 03:26, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. Give me 5 minutes, I'll work up a test for you.--intelati(Call) 03:27, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

I'll be gone for the rest of today, and most of tomorrow.
- Keep all of these cleaned out.
- AfD will be the next topic of discussion. Study the related pages and ask any question on your talk page. You have 30 or so TPS's so some one will answer your question.--intelati(Call) 16:41, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
- On a related note, 100 threads is a long archive. I would start a new one.--intelati(Call) 16:56, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
- Ok. --Inka888 16:58, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Is this how it should look? It is still not working. --Inka888 05:01, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Anti-vandalism assignments
What happened to the anti-vandalism assignments? They were archived without being solved. Is this the end of the mentoring? Dr.K. λogosπraxis 06:03, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- This is not the end of the mentoring. --Inka888 15:23, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Then I have to conclude that User:Intelati/test/1 is not going to be fixed. Is there a reason for that? Dr.K. λogosπraxis 22:53, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- It was a test for him to see if he could use the History tab to find the vandalism.--intelati(Call) 22:54, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Exactly. But he didn't finish it before archiving it. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 22:59, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately he made a bit of a bollox of it and b0rked the formatting - although I think he figured it out in the end.--Elen of the Roads (talk) 23:01, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- How did he do that? My instructions were even archived. The test page is still not corrected. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 23:03, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- That confused me - took me five minutes to work out Intelati has unarchived them:) Didn't realise Inka hadn't actually finished. My bad. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 23:19, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- No problem Ellen. Things on this page move so fast it is easy to lose track. I just saw your reply and only by looking at the history of the page. Dr.K. λogosπraxis 23:59, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

CSD test
When you have the spare time, have a go at tagging User:Access_Denied/CSD_Examples#Example_7 and User:Access_Denied/CSD_Examples#Example_11 --Elen of the Roads (talk) 18:37, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- It would probably be A1. --Inka888 18:39, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Which one? --Elen of the Roads (talk) 19:24, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- example 7 would be A1. --Inka888 20:00, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- In what way is it no context? It's about the album Hypersona, the debut album by a British ambient (it's a type of music) musician who uses the recording name 36. Could you explain why you thought it was no context, see if we can see what the problem is. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 20:28, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- It does not really say anything about the album except about the songs and a little bit of other information, there are no references and is a very short "article". --Inka888 20:31, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Example 7 is an A9, which is an article about an album made by a band which does not have an article. Access Denied [FATAL ERROR] 21:07, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
- Inka, you'll find hundreds of articles about albums that have pretty much only an infobox and a track listing. As long as the artist has an article, the chances are that the album article passes WP:MUSIC, if the artist does not have an article, it can be speedied as A9.
- "No context" however means that you cannot work out what the article is about. "Symberman is blue and originated in Detroit." is no context. "The lesser spotted backsun is a native of the Caribbean." is no context.--Elen of the Roads (talk) 21:24, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
