Welcome to Wikipedia. Your account has been blocked from editing because your username gives the impression that the account represents a group, team, club, organization, company, product, department, or website. Your username is the principal reason for the block. You are welcome to continue editing after you have chosen a new username that complies with Wikipedia's username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable, regardless of the username that you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid or compensated in any way, you must disclose who is paying you to edit here. You may also read our FAQ for article subjects.

Please take a moment to either create a new account, or request a username change to this account.
  • To create a new account with a different username, simply log out of this account and then click here to make a new one.
  • If you prefer to change the username of this account, you may do so by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Important items to note:

  • The new username that you choose must represent you as an individual person, and it must comply with Wikipedia's username policy.
    • You are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it also identifies you individually. Examples include: "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".
  • The new username you choose cannot already be taken and used by another account. You can search here to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns, "There is no global account for [username]", that means it is available.

Appeals: If your username does not represent a group, organization, department, website, or other entity described above, and if you believe that this block was incorrect or made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the following text to the bottom of your user talk page (this page): {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

Thank you. 331dot (talk) 09:53, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Ikbglobal. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Ikbglobal. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Ikbglobal|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 331dot (talk) 09:53, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 331dot,
Thank you for reaching out and informing me about the issues with my account.
Username Change: I understand that my current username, "Ikbglobal," may give the impression of representing a group or organization. I am willing to change my username to comply with Wikipedia’s policies. Please let me know the next steps to initiate this process, or if you prefer, I can add the required template to my user talk page to request an unblock after changing my username.
Conflict of Interest Disclosure: I am the College Counsellor at Ikubunkan Global High School. I created the "Ikubunkan Global High School" article to provide an objective and informative overview of our school for English-speaking audiences and to improve its visibility on search engines like Google. I translated the content from our existing Japanese article without making significant edits to ensure neutrality.
I am not receiving any direct compensation for these edits outside of my role at Ikubunkan Global High School. However, I acknowledge that my affiliation with the school constitutes a conflict of interest. To comply with Wikipedia’s policies, I had added the following disclosure to my user page:
UserboxCOI|1=Ikubunkan Global High School
Next Steps:
Username Change: Please advise if I should proceed with changing my username or if any additional steps are required on my part.
Unblocking: I kindly request that my editing privileges be reinstated once I have complied with the username policy and provided the necessary conflict of interest disclosure.
Guidance: As I am new to Wikipedia, I would greatly appreciate any further guidance or resources to ensure that my contributions adhere to all Wikipedia policies and guidelines.
Thank you for your assistance and understanding. Ikbglobal (talk) 11:07, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

I have renamed you and will remove the block. As an employee of the school you are absolutely a paid editor, your salary is sufficient to trigger the disclosure requirement, you do not need to be specifically paid to edit or specifically asked to edit. You will need to make the paid editing disclosure per WP:PAID. To be frank with you, Wikipedia has no interest in search results for your school; our only interest is in summarizing what independent reliable sources with significant coverage choose to say about topics that meet our criteria, such as the definition of a notable organization. We don't want to know what your school says about itself(you can do that on your school website and social media), we want to know what others say about it. 331dot (talk) 15:52, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved your unblock request at the bottom of this page. In future, please place new talk page postings at the bottom to preserve the correct chronological order of discussions.

You do not have to be paid specifically to edit Wikipedia - nor directed by your superiors to edit Wikipedia - to be considered a paid editor. Your employment with Ikubunkan Global High School by itself makes you a paid editor. Therefore, using the {{UserboxCOI}} template is not enough. You are required to use the {{paid}} template on your userpage. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:38, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 331dot and Drm310
Thank you for your prompt response and for lifting the block on my account.
I understand and acknowledge that, as an employee of Ikubunkan Global, my role constitutes paid editing, and I am committed to complying with Wikipedia’s paid editing disclosure requirements. To address this, I have already added the necessary disclosure to my user page.
Our school currently only has a Japanese Wikipedia page, which contains outdated information. This is adversely affecting our visibility, as prospective parents and students often refer to Wikipedia for information about our institution.
Would it be possible to confirm that the best steps going forward are to:
1) Initiate a review for the Japanese page to ensure that the existing Japanese article is accurate, up-to-date, and complies with Wikipedia’s content policies.
2) Propose the creation of an English version through the Articles for Creation process.
I am eager to contribute positively to Wikipedia and ensure that the information about Ikubunkan Global High School is accurate and helpful to those seeking it. Your guidance and support in navigating these steps would be invaluable. Ikubunkan Khan (talk) 00:10, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We cannot help you with the Japanese article. Each language Wikipedia is a separate project, with their own editors and policies. What is acceptable there is not necessarily acceptable here.
Frankly, you should encourage parents and prospective students to visit your school website for accurate up to the moment information about the school and its offerings. Wikipedia has no interest in search results or in helping prospective students. Wikipedia is only interested in what independent reliable sources choose on their own to say about your school, not in what it says about itself. I would direct you to my above message in accepting your request, please see the policies linked within. Do you have independent reliable sources that on their own gave your school significant coverage? 331dot (talk) 12:13, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia articles are only as good as the sources they cite. Readers should never use Wikipedia as the absolute source of truth about a topic - see the article "Reliability of Wikipedia". --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 15:50, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi 331dot,
I understand your points, but in reality, many people rely on Wikipedia for information out of habit. We would greatly appreciate having an objective English article to complement our Japanese page (ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E9%83%81%E6%96%87%E9%A4%A8%E3%82%B0%E3%83%AD%E3%83%BC%E3%83%90%E3%83%AB%E9%AB%98%E7%AD%89%E5%AD%A6%E6%A0%A1) which outlines the facts about our school.
Our school is fairly well-known in Japan, and we collaborate with numerous organisations and universities both domestically and internationally. We receive considerable coverage in both Japanese media and occasionally in overseas English media. For example:
Indian Media: timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/pune/japanese-students-explore-pune-to-experience-cultures-indian-lifestyle/articleshow/70823259.cms
British Media - Daily Mail: www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1302756/Japanese-students-impress-visitors-powerful-haka.html
In Japan, a lot of our reputation also comes from the fact that our school is owned by Miki Watanabe, a fairly influential entrepreneur and politician here.
I have officially submitted a request for a review of the Japanese article. However, we would still greatly appreciate support in establishing an English article as well.
If creating an English article is not possible, I will respect that decision.
Thank you for your consideration. Ikubunkan Khan (talk) 23:58, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
