More chalk paint questions....
I know you haven't had time to respond to the above post, as of yet. I did look at YT, but found it sooo slow to watch! I prefer to read, & discovered several good websites. Now, I think I need to make a DIY chalk paint, using calcium carbonate.
Only the top of this chest requires repainting. Like your finished steamer trunk, the top & sides of the chest are variations of a color (green, in this instance), not one solid color. I need to custom mix only enough paint for a relatively small square footage (@ 3ft x 2ft) but I must duplicate several shades of green, and apply them in a similar manner to your trunk....gradations of shades, blending together.
Have you made DIY chalk paint? If so, did you use a calcium carbonate receipt, or some other formula? Thanks, my friend, for your time and advice! Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 04:10, 19 June 2021 (UTC)
- Tribe of Tiger, I used wax to top coat the steamer trunk, specifically this material. The paint on this trunk is all the same color--I was able to achieve the specific appearance using different colored waxes. I first used a clear wax to top coat the entire piece and then blended in a dark wax. I find it very useful (in my very limited experience) to first use a clear wax. It makes adjusting any colored wax effects much easier than if I only put down the colored wax. To me, this is where the fun part of the entire effort is.
- I've not made my chalk paint and the only type I've purchased is the type pictured. While I buy it in Lehi, Utah, I believe it is from a firm based in California. There are many different and good quality brands available. For a matte finish, you might want to use a varnish. This sign is coated with a varnish. A polyurethane material would work just fine. I do hope this helps and look forward to seeing your work when it is done.

- Hu Nhu, a long overdue reply. I'm astonished that you achieved the color variations on the steamer, simply through the wax colors. Yippee, this looks like my kind of fun! I did slow down and watch some YT, which also advocated "shades" of wax. Your post confirms that this will be the way to go, for me. And this wax/paint product is easily available by mail, and in small quantities. Thus far, the retailers are too far away. Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 05:23, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Chetsford (talk) 08:38, 26 July 2021 (UTC)New Albion and Norman J. W. Thrower articles
Thanks for your message. My edit was only to disambiguate a link. I'm afriad I don't have the knowledge, sources, time (or interest) to work on New Albion.— Rod talk 19:02, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- I appreciate hearing from you. Kind regards,Hu Nhu (talk) 19:31, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
Thanks...
You have been so kind to mention me recently! I am pleased that Chalk paint has been accepted! (I was "up in arms" that your work was deleted "because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising".) A WP article on a new type of paint product is interesting and helpful to readers. So now, a Happy Dance!
I wish you the very best of success in elevating New Albion to FA status. You possess the ability to conduct research and write very well. The WP community, and its readers, are very fortunate to have you as an editor. I saw Norman J. W. Thrower mentioned here, and I'm taking a look, in case I can help. - I appreciate your kind comments. I let the editor who deleted Chalk paint know I had submitted it this time through the articles for creation channels and invited him to peruse it for suggestions. I hope he's able to give a good suggestion or two. I could tell from the tone of your writing that you were somewhat irritated, and I appreciate your support. Ultimately, the editors who canned the article did the right thing.
- The Norman J. W. Thrower and George Kuwayama articles came to my attention while looking over the New Albion refs as I am polishing the article for FA review. I looked at all the authors who had no author link to see if they were notable. Thrower and Kuwayama stood out as did the authors Michael Turner and John Sugden. Unfortunately, I could only find usable information on Thrower and Kuwayama. Sugden has written a number of well received bios and is a university prof. Turner has improbably visited every Drake anchorage and landfall that Drake made on his circumnavigation. I found YouTube video of him being interviewed for British television--fascinating fellow. But unfortunately no author links for them--just Kuwayama and Thrower.
- I have started on a list article, too. I am going to make a timeline of Drake's circumnavigation. It will take a while, but I find the reading very interesting. And all my sources will be books this time. Just from researching for the New Albion article, I learned much of Drake and became utterly intrigued with him. So now, I'm deep into the details of his circumnavigation geography.
- You do marvelous editing that I find mostly confusing, and I'm glad you are doing it. It is always good to hear from you.Hu Nhu (talk) 01:46, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
