ClanBase article deletion

Hey,

I just noticed that the article on ClanBase has been deleted, citing "spam, biased" as reasons. I'm not a savvy Wikipedia user, so forgive me if I'm directing this at the wrong person.

I don't understand this. Yes, it may be biased because it as far as I know was written mostly by ClanBase users/crew members such as myself, but I don't think there were any exaggerations or misstated facts. With more than 1.6 million members, ClanBase is one of the largest online gaming leagues in the world. That is a fact. I would be thrilled if someone unbiased would write an article about it, but nobody has, so is it better to have no info on ClanBase than to have a factual article written by fans of the organization? I doubt that ClanBase is the only subject for which this is the case in Wikipedia.

I 'm going to ask you something simple. On Hrisi Avgi it is mentioned that the party is disbanded and its members continue their activity throught Patriotic Alliance. However, in the external links section, the link to Patriotic Alliance's site says "Official site of Patriotiki Symmachia" (the Greek name of the party). Can you please change that to the english name, "Patriotic Alliance"? I telling that because the ignorant readers don't know what "Patriotiki Symmachia" is. Can you also change "site" to "website" in all links? It's a minor an uncontroversial edit, but improves the standard of English in the article. I 'm not going to ask anything else. I have to question your motives for reverting the Yule article back to Right Wing Neo-Nazi extremist pagan-propaganda. If you don't believe that Scandinavian Humanist celebrate a secular Yule and do believe that the burning cross/wheel has anything to do with a non-christian Yule you are very sadly confused. Please revert the article back to reality. If you do not believe this I suggest you talk to some of the hundreds of thousands Humanist Yule celebrants in Scandinavia or millions of secular Yule celebrants in Scandinavia - you will find that they outnumber the neo-pagans by far and are not happy about this article at all.

Modern Neo-pagans are at best a marginal Winter Solstice celebrating group compared to others. In fact the Yule word is Scandinavian in orgin, this is why it is used in Scotland and is in the English language. Admit please that this article has been hijacked på extemists with a different agenda and rectefy your mistake by reverting it back to the edit. Leaving out the Humanist Winter Solstice celbrations "Yule" is a serious factual mistake. Thank you.

Follow-up I discovered that the problem was that User:Gurch/T/Atn-last, which you had changed T:fast-forward to call instead of T:last-taf, had been deleted. What criteria for notability would you like in order for the Mikkal Morottaja article to be left in place? Of the criteria for notability listed on the Wikipedia:Notability (music), he fulfills at least #1 and #7, #4 I'm not sure about, but I believe to be true, too. Non-Latin Username Blocks

There is some dispute as to whether these blocks are supported. There are many active editors who do just fine contributing with non-latin names. Per the discussion here, there seems be support for reccomending for to people creating a username at en.WP to not use non-latin characters. But does not appear to be consensus for blocking people on sight who already have a non-latin account at another Wikimedia wiki. Will you please start taking these non-latin username through Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names in order to better gather opions on the mattter? Thank you for your kind reply. I did not mean to imply your previous actions were out of step with policy. There are claims that these blocks are not happening automactically [3] and therefore the policy does not need changing to stop blocks which are "not happening". The non-latin section has been twice removed and reverted. I for one support your removal, but I hope this explanation helps you understand why I came to various admins suggesting the use of RfC's. I am sorry if I offended you. I do believe you were doing what you thought the en.WP community wanted at the time. It is hard to change the policy to not support blocking when people are denying that the policy does support blocking. I hope you can understand the difficult position I am. One group tells me the policy is fine there are simply individual overzealous admins [4]. The other group say their actions are supported by policy and I should change the policy not their actions. I noticed my name got into this conversation. I will admit that I missed protecting those templates that the penis vandal got, both the December 15 SA and the December 24 POTD. But Gurch has a valid point that it is essentially the whole community's fault. Because it got to a point where only one user, me, was monitoring the main page protections. That in my opinion is unacceptable for an important page like the main page. Not only was there not another Wikipedian to double check myself, but what could have happened if I got too busy or went on a wikibreak -- and all of the templates and images for a particular day was not protected? Speedy Deletion of an entry

On November 21, you deleted an entry I posted for blatant advertising. On December 17, I wrote a new entry for the same company, and it was immediately deleted as well. It was a different article, and it just gave some basic information about the company. I had added a reference to this company to the following Wikipedia pages, and I would like the internal link to have some basic information.

Your bot screwed up our archives!

GurchBot 2 has messed up the archives at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Mathematics and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Physics and probably many others which use Werdnabot to archive their talk pages. You did not change the Werdnabot invocations to show the new file name for the current archive so it added the archived material to the redirects which you left behind. Regarding the article ClanBase

We at ClanBase are very disappointed in wikipedia that a grand article about ClanBase has been deleted while other articles from similar organizations are kept ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ggl & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Sports_League ).

I would argue (and I would argue on wikipedia if I found out how to) that it would be nearly impossible to have a "non-biased" history of CB since the best source of reference material for CB is CB itself or it's Crew members. I would also expect that there is a similar situation for pretty much any other website documented on wikipedia, apart from the most world-renowned ones that would have been referenced in/on respected news sites.

If it's demanded, we could modify the article or let our users write something on the issue, as long as we are featured on the great wikipedia.

re main page

Indeed the entire community (non-administrators too) should take responsibility for this. When I posted at WP:AN and Talk:Main Page, I assumed there was a group of people that took care of this, and they seemed to be in need of a little motivation. I wasn't aware that it had got to the point that there was only one person having to do it. Obviously you cannot be blamed for such circumstances and I apologize if I gave that impression. I notice the bot is only going to notify administrators that pages need protection; this is all very well, but it's all too easy to get back to the situation where there's only one person doing it, if only one person is monitoring the bot's page. In my opinion, the community's outright rejection of the automation of any administrative process, however benign, is idiotic and misguided, and the project is really beginning to suffer because of it. There was in fact a group of 4-7 people who were constantly monitoring the the main page templates a few months ago. But for one reason or another they stopped and I found myself being the only one who was doing it. Luckily after this last incident, it looks like a couple of them are coming back to help out again.

You don't look at the name. You look at the contributions. The user is adding inter-wikilinks. Can you tell if this is vandalism? (You will need to be able to read Japanese articles). If you can't tell, assume good faith. Certainly don't block. Carcharoth 16:31, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

At the time I issued this block (a few months ago), having a username with non-Latin characters was in itself grounds for blocking. This is not just my interpretation of the username policy; many other people issued such blocks and none of my blocks were questioned at the time. The username policy has now been changed a number of times and there seems to be a debate over exactly how acceptable these usernames are. While it's certainly no longer appropriate to block such usernames, I'm still reluctant to retrospectively unblock all the usernames I blocked when it was standard practise. I have asked this user to leave {{unblock}} on his talk page and allow someone who is less uncertain than me to make the decision – Gurch 20:14, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Looking at the contributions rather than the name ignores the whole reason for having names or words for that matter -- to summarize in a short easily-grasped unit something which would otherwise be too complex to speak, think, or act on.

Just now I tried to enter this user's "name", i.e. "%E3%81%93%E3%81%84%E3%81%A4%E3%85" as far as I can tell, into the system and it rejected it. Allowing such names would be a travesty. Please don't take the attacks on misuse of IRC personally. I'm sure you're one of the genuine guys (as are most users) and responsible in the way you use IRC. Those arguing against it can't realistically expect to end its use, but I hope the debate at least alerts editors to the concerns and leads to a sense of good form developing (or even a voluntary code-of-conduct), whereby people interrupt and say, "Hey, that's off limits", or whatever. something not meeting notability guidelines

Boy isn't this subjective: notability. An administrator had prevented me from adding a page on '8bitpeoples' as a link from 'nintendo music'. The basis of this action is that it lacked 'notability'.

I had gotten the attention of a sysop by making an accidental one-line save just to start the page and this looked to him like a no-content page. Reasonable guess. But I added more stuff to find the sysop had locked the page as I was adding content. Not nice. That really got to me.

But back to the main issue I have with these actions. You and I disagree on 'notability'. I'm going to win this fight with you and the other sysops because I know I'm right. I do not care what you do with what I have to say.

I want to say that you know nothing about 'nintendo music', and I am an expert having enjoyed and created such music. Why should your opinion overrule mine in terms of the subjective notability. Suppose I were to tell you I have a PhD in biochemistry and you prevented me from adding something to the stereoisomer page. That'd get my goat, were that the case, because without even knowing you, I'd say for certain you know less than or equal to me about that subject. Something similar has happened here. I don't want that to upset you and it shouldn't because it is common sense.

So, people know the 8bitpeoples because:

1. It's a record label that covers MANY artists that make 'nintendo music' or '8bit music'.

6. Most of all, I am not trying to promote 8bit people. I could care less if other people listen to them or if they have a wikipedia page. But I DO think they should be included in Wikipedia for the sake of being a complete reference in understanding what 'nintendo music' is and giving relevant examples and explanations. What is there now sucks: it does not give a complete picture as nearly ALL artists that do this kind of music are in 8bitpeoples and they are not represented at all on the page. "You want the truth? you can't handle the truth!!"

7. if you have a link to 'nintendo music' and you have a link to 'coca cola' then obviously you are being discriminatory regarding what goes in and what does not if you don't have a page for 8bitpeoples

8. If there's not enough to say about this subject, I understand THAT. But at least put a link under the 'nintendo music' page link section for goodness sake. I can't do it myself unless the lock on my ability to edit it has been removed. I dont' know if they expire or not.

Weird problems with an user.

Hello, (my mother language is not English) I'm a huge fan of the Japanese Music and I love Wikipedia, so i always try to improve their articles related to the J-Pop, but recently there's an user who's removing ALL the info that lacks sources, look, for example the Art of Life article, that's a X JAPAN song, and all the songs are composed by someone and have a history, ok, I added this info to the article, I know a lot about the band and so i wanna share this with Wikipedia, ok, first with the Art of Life article, first take a now, and compare it with this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Art_of_Life&oldid=90026098 Ok, i know there's no citations, but look:

• Yoshiki began writing the song after he recovered from injuries during the Rose & Blood tour.
  • Source: In their last single released, The Last Song (X Japan song), it was included a short biography of the band (written by Josephine Yun), that biography says this, that Yoshiki composed the song there. The problem is that i add this to the article but i don't find any source so he deletes the information when it's true, of course there's that biography in some websites but this websites are fan sites so if I put the link to this he deletes the source, so there's no way to improve the history of the song.
• A demo version was recorded called End of the World with Taiji on bass, which was released on 2002 Taiji's album Rose & Blood [Indies of X].
  • He removed this when it's true, he can go to the shop and buy the album he will find the song, how i can add a source to this? Ok, i add a link from a shop but in japanese because is a japanese album, and then... look out!! he said this:

Also, the text found in this "source" is almost entirely in Japanese. As stated by WP:V, English language sources are prefered, as most readers and fellow contributors have no way of knowing whether this page actually backs up your claims or not.

Ok, i'm not gonna post more things, but he just edits without thinking, and if we wanna put some citations, the only way is from fan sites that have english translatios, because if we wanna put something in Japanese he deletes, and if we put something from a fan sites he also deletes, summarazing: We cannot put citations, because there's no official sites, but all the info is true, i don't know how to explain it, i know that with just saying "it's true" it's not OK, but it's info that everybody knows, they said that on TV, newspapers, etc. but how we can put citations of this if all it's in japanese and the translations are in fan sites? and also, we don't have to citate everything, if we have to citate sentence per sentence, pff it's impossible, in the official site they never say that the leader of the band was Yoshiki (X Japan) but we know this, we also need a citation? there's no citation but you can find this on videos, newspapers as you can see all the info of that song! Changes made by your Bot to archives of WP:V

Hi, I was archiving the rather lengthy talk page at WP:V when I realised that your Bot had moved the original archives from the format 'archive1' et seq to 'Archive 1' et seq. Obviously I followed the format suggested by the Bot. Instead of also creating a redirect to the new archives, it seemed easier to correct Wikipedia talk:Verifiability/toc to link to the archives and not the redirects. Presumably the redirects at Wikipedia talk:Verifiability/archive1 through to Wikipedia talk:Verifiability/archive14 can now be deleted? There doesn't seem to be a suitable tag at WP:CSD however. I presume they don't require listing at WP:RfD. Can you just delete them and should there be a tag for future occasions when this arises in future? Problems with names

Hello, there's a discussion at the X JAPAN article, the official name is X JAPAN, the members are: YOSHIKI, TOSHI, hide, PATA, HEATH, etc. and it's officials, they have a trademark, it's YOSHIKI® but someone is always putting X Japan and Yoshiki, he's avoiding the trademarks or the copyright, if the name is X JAPAN, why puting X Japan? You can take a look at their official site and you'll notice that the name is X JAPAN, the same happens with KOTOKO her name is KOTOKO not Kotoko, so if in her albums, singles, etc, she puts KOTOKO it must be KOTOKO in the article, so, the same happens with X JAPAN, their name was X JAPAN and not X Japan, but people don't know this, what can I do? ProtectionBot discussion

Hi there. I was reading the ProtectionBot discussion, and I noticed in one of the oppose votes discussions you say "remember this bot only protects images and templates on the Main Page". This is incorrect. The bot is also intended to protect templates being used on the featured article, the actual features article page, not the introduction to it that appears on the Main Page. Thus anyone can add a template to the featured article, vandalise the template, and sit back and watch as ProtectionBot protects the vandalised template. The good thing though, is that the featured article is (normally) freely editable, and so anyone can remove the protected vandalised template. This situation is a bit more problematic when the featured article is in a state of protection or semi-protection due to high levels of vandalism (someone always seems to protect the featured article at some point in any given day). However, the discussions at Wikipedia:Main Page featured article protection may change all this. Thus the interaction of all these proposals needs to be carefully considered. Not too much change too fast. Also, no-one seems to have picked up yet on the comment I made here. Where do you think is the best place to raise all this? It might get lost in the RfA.
