All Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem that .sport meets these criteria, an editor has started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.
Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/.sport. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.
Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, a neutral third party will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? [edit]I don't think founding a school event constitutes a claim of notability. The citations given were to things like articles in school papers (including her high school paper) and a YouTube video she put up, and did not appear to me to constitute substantial coverage. It looked like a typical resume-padding vanispamcruftisement from a complete s.p.a. (presumably the subject herself). --Orange Mike | Talk 17:01, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Your speedy close of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Manuela Testolini is being discussed at WP:ANI. it's felt that the closure was completely inappropriate. The afd was put on the article by an anon IP address, who then, as is proper in such cases, listed their reasons for nomination on the article's Talk page. The procedural listing on AfD should have explained that, but your unilateral close is hardly proper. Corvus cornixtalk 20:18, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Harry Potter articles and Notability
[edit]Hey there!! I come to invite you to join a discussion still regarding HP articles and notability, as you were one of the most active editors when the big mergers took place (for example all the Hogwarts teachers or the Weasley family members). I came with this proposal to merge Neville and Luna into the Dumbledore's Army article because, like some other important characters we merged in the past (McGonagall, the Weasley twins, Lupin, Moody, Umbridge), these two have not met notability, or at least their articles are way too poor, especially if compared to other important (and indeed notable) characters like the trio, Snape or Voldemort. These pages remain as short, plot appearances only articles, with lots of in-universe and overdetailed scenes and dialogues.
I made This draft to give you an idea of how this article would look like with the changes. Cheers! --LøЯd ۞pεth 22:13, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Image for speedy deletion
[edit]Hiya.. I'm wondering about this edit to the Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon article. Under what criteria is the image not fair use? I see a good explanation at the info page for the image. I know you notified the user, but the user has not contributed to WP since Aug 14, and I think s/he may actually be on an indef block. Prince of Canada t | c 22:29, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- Well, notifying the original uploader is kind of pointless, for the reasons I outlined above. I'll see what I can do about adding proper rationale. Though honestly, FU stuff gives me hives; I have extremely strong views on copyright, but they do not extend to purely educational use, which WP is. I feel that any purely educational use--except, haha, things produced specifically for educational use such as training films--is fair use, but it's really not worth trying to change WP policy on that. Image without license
[edit]Unspecified source/license for Image:Zebra standing alone crop.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Zebra standing alone crop.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}}
(to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

St. John's Lodge
[edit]Hi,
There have been a number of new sources added to the page St. John's Lodge, Portsmouth, New Hampshire since your delete vote:
- History of Masonry in North America from 1730 to 1800 by Henry Whittemore
- Albert G Mackey, Encyclopedia of Freemasonry
- Freemasonry in the Thirteen Colonies
There's also an article from the Granite Monthly that's been there some time.
They seem to meet the non-trivial reliable secondary sources required. Do you have any more suggestions to improve this? JASpencer (talk) 18:13, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for this. It's quite important to know that an outside party thinks that we are going the right way to establish notability. JASpencer (talk) 18:46, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

GA Review
[edit]I have reviewed the Microsoft v. MikeRoweSoft article for Good Article status. Overall, good work!
Before it can be listed, I am asking for a second opinion from another reviewer on the use of the Microsoft logo. Specifically, I highly doubt that such a logo (which is trademarked) can be considered "public domain." Also, it is clearly a trademarked logo (note the (R) symbol), so that makes it require a fair use rationale. There are also some grammar issues that I have listed.
If those things get fixed, I don't see any problem listing it as a good article. --HoboJones (talk) 04:48, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:ICanFeelYou.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Speedy deletion
[edit]I noticed you declined the speedy tag I put on this image. I realise that generally I1 is only for images of the same file type, but considering this is an inferior version of a non-free image and it isn't being used in any articles, I thought it might be covered under the general heading of the criterion (redundancy). Sorry for any trouble and time wasted. Regards, Guest9999 (talk) 12:44, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Brett conti
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Brett conti, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Brett conti seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Brett conti, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. I have reverted your revision of the lead to WP:PROF. There is no consensus for the change you introduced. When the WP:PROF guideline was revised over the summer, there was an explicit discussion of the need for it to be independent from the other notability guidelines and there has been consensus achieved for that position. A revision of the guideline of the type you made requires the consensus to be expressed at the talk page of WP:PROF itself, not elsewhere. That is the standard Wikipedia practice regarding edits to any Wikipedia page. You are welcome to start a discussion on the matter at WT:PROF and see if there is a consensus there. Image copyright problem with Image:Two Ogres.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Two Ogres.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

When making controversial moves (as with other similar processes like RfDs), it is customary for the closing administrator not to include the support and oppose opinions of IP addresses and new accounts (although their views may be considered in the summing up). This is a long standing position see Wikipedia:Sock puppetry. Often there is no need to explicitly strike them out as I did in Big Ben, but I did it so that later there could be no bickering about accounts I did or did not consider when looking at the Talk:Big Ben#Requested move. In this case it probably makes no difference, but have a look at WP:LAME#Places and other things and Talk:Dokdo/Archive_10#Invalid_Votes to see an extreme example. --PBS (talk) 09:42, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Reply about Afd
[edit]Hi, Guest9999. In reply to your question: No, not once during that Afd did I feel your comments were out-of-line - and certainly did not think of them as harassment. (I also hope my own commentary there didn't come across to you as if I was irritated by it. I wasn't.) Anabel Barnston was definitely borderline notable/non-notable. So your Afd nom was warranted. It is one of those many cases that falls on the edge of WP guidelines and policies, and which is best solved through discussion. And you and I discussed our differing interpretation of the policies in a reasonable way. In the end, you offered a good solution. I think the purpose of Afd was well-demonstrated there. And I felt your conduct was just right. Cheers. — CactusWriter | needles 07:58, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:20, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Unification the yoruba
[edit]A tag has been placed on Unification the yoruba requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. FlyingToaster 15:50, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading File:IMG 0002 NEW.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. - To be honest I think it would be more appropriate to use the close-up pic on the Monster page, but perhaps not the main Cloverfield page, it is a bit of a spoiler if you haven't seen the film.

File source problem with File:ZacharyQuintoSpock.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:ZacharyQuintoSpock.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:53, 5 February 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ejfetters (talk) 11:53, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Mergers
[edit]If you want to merge the article propose a merger on the talk pages and discuss it, but don't unilaterally merge an article when there was NO consensus to do so from editors discussing the appropriateness of a topic merger. I reverted. Propose the merger, make your arguments based on the topic if you want. --KP Botany (talk) 21:04, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Okay. It can be frustrating, though, at en.wiki watching how huge topics and disciplines are merged into poor articles on a single aspect of the discipline. Actually, it's mind boggling that there isn't an article on solid state ionics, and, that when one appears the discussion is not about improving the article but about disappearing it. The whole thing is just weird. I will write the article when I get a moment. For now, it should be a place-holder that, in addition to every minor character who ever appeared in an American syndicated cartoon episode, major topics of research in the 21st century also have an editor or two who have at least heard of it.... --KP Botany (talk) 03:33, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Fsol - archived ep fronte cover.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Fsol - archived ep fronte cover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use.
You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:35, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Professor Layton Series
[edit]Hi there. I see you keep changing the Professor Layton series, and I think we need to come to some sort of an agreement. I would like to keep the game listed chronologically because that is how most things are organized. I believe the Layton series is no different, and should remain in that order. Re: Speedy deletion of Burneside Clay Shooting Club
[edit]I've deleted it now - yes, I know I'm it's original creator, but still, it met the criteria. It was a pretty useless article anyway. Stwalkerster [ talk ] 01:40, 8 September 2009 (UTC)
Your query
[edit]Oh, oops. No I have no connection with User:Hibernian. I was dumb not to check that there was no user of that name. I'll have to think of a new sig. Hibernian231 (talk) 20:07, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
FYI. This RFC is based on, Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Jack Merridew/Blood and Roses which you participated in. If you already have commented at the RFC, my apologies for contacting you. Ikip (talk) 00:19, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
I agree with your posting - it's WP:Original research.
- Also it's a neologism. --Ludvikus (talk) 21:44, 4 October 2009 (UTC)
