Penske PC1 (et al)
[edit]Hello Geekstreet and welcome to Wiki and the F1 project. Here are some basic tips etc. for getting started...
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Simplified Manual of Style
When it comes to references, please see WP:REFB for a basic guide and a list of templates for refs is here. If you have enabled the visual editor, ('preferences' at top of page > editing > editing mode > select > 'show me both' from the drop down) then if you have a url, place the cursor where you need the ref. click cite and it will format a ref. for you from the url.
I noticed you joined the proj page. You might have noticed some discussion on the talk-page about a recent editor who does not follow guidelines. (discussions might have been archived by now). Penske PC1 was one of their creations and if there was a page for Penske in F1 would probably have been re-directed as it barely attains notability (see WP:GNG for more info).
I don't know anything about Kainhofer... you will need to make sure he passes notability (in the Wiki sense). Probably the best way to try your first article...not an easy step... is to go via the article wizard. Also try to find articles on similar persons and see how they are constructed...what info box has been used, headings etc. I can't think of any offhand...apart from my own recent ramblings... I wouldn't necessarily recommend those! Always remember to cite your sources and don't C&P from anywhere on the web or it will be deleted as copy-vio. (You can use other wiki pages subject to attribution; (see WP:CWW). If you think it looks like a lot of work you are probably right...
If you are stuck and looking for help, please also see the guide for citing sources or come to the new contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also ask for help at the project talk-page, put {{help me}} on your talk-page, with details of your query, and someone will show up to help or ask me or one of the other proj. members at our talk-pages.
Good luck. Eagleash (talk) 09:06, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks Eagleash, this is all great stuff for a newby & I really appreciate your help.
- I'm happy to learn the ropes on some low-notability pages before jumping in to "hot topics"! :)
- Cheers. Geekstreet (talk) 10:55, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Images
[edit]Hi,
Any of your own images (your own work) are acceptable for use on Wikipedia. This includes scanned copies. But be aware that you are 'giving' them to Wiki for anyone to use. Personally, I think it's best to go via commons. The upload wizard there will take care of all copyright and data fields. The example you cite sounds like a serial copy-vio uploader has had all their images deleted. Commons is pretty well patrolled for copyright issues and vios will be deleted fairly rapidly. As long as the images are of reasonable quality and you legitimately declare own work, should have no problems. Good luck. Eagleash (talk) 04:59, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for signing up for this project. It is a very busy and active project with lots going on and we can always use more help and especially a fresh set of eyes. If you haven't done so already you might want to add Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft to your watch list as this is where much of the background discussion occurs. You may also want to watch Wikipedia:New articles (Aircraft) as this is where newly created articles get listed for peer review. Having a look over these new articles is a great way to get a feel for how things are done on the project and also most new articles need reviewing anyway. If you have any questions you can leave me a note or post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft, either way you will get a quick response. - Ahunt (talk) 11:46, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks Ahunt, will try to do everything suggested :) Geekstreet (talk) 00:47, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Gbawden (talk) 07:28, 12 December 2016 (UTC)Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:SS Bombo
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Draft:SS Bombo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://afloat.businesscatalyst.com/afloat-magazine/archive/2007_November2007_KiamaPart3ThetragedyofSSBombo.htm#.WGZn1xsrKzc. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit]Hello, Geekstreet. It has been over six months since you last edited your Articles for Creation draft article submission, "Prestressed concrete".
In accordance with our policy that Articles for Creation is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. or {{db-g13}}
code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 22:56, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reminder JMHamo, I really need to get that article written! I have now made a start by setting up the sections & removed the SD tag. ❮❮ GEEKSTREET Talk Lane ❯❯ 00:23, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi,
it seems you created the map of the new search area used in this article (see above) by adding the yellow circle to an existing map from 2014. Where did you find the coordinates? Can it be sourced? But the more important thing is, as Ocean Infinity search has almost covered the two legs of site 1, which was the most probable location, could you please somehow merge the two maps - the 2014 map and the map(s) used in Ocean Infinity reports? "Broken Ridge" can be used as reference but there are also more precise maps of the original search area in the "The search for MH370 and ocean surface drift – Part III" I think your map with the circle is now misleading, as it probably indicates only where the new search begun but not the whole search area. Disambiguation link notification for May 15
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Eucalyptus smithii, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mallee (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello Geekstreet,
Thanks for your great work, especially on eucalypts (inc. Corymbia). The idea of a separate gallery with bark/leaves/buds etc. is a good one.
Now my problem: I've updated the list of Eucalyptus species using the Australian Plant Census. Problem is no E. bicostata! I don't think there's much doubt that the consensus is E. bicostata is a synonym. You are right about plantnet at the RBGS, but that site has not been maintained for a number of years. What do you think about moving E. bicostata to Eucalyptus globulus subsp. bicostata? (Adding a couple of refs. in case you haven't seen them.)[1][2] All the best to you. Gderrin (talk) 23:18, 14 March 2019 (UTC)

- Hi Gderrin,
- Yes I think your suggestion is for the best. I quickly checked the main Eucalyptus globulus page & it doesn't have its own "features" gallery yet, so we can probably re-work the one from E.bicostata to suit. Let me know if you need any assistance with any sections.
In the meantime, I must get out collecting some more samples for new pics & galleries :) Cheers & thanks ❮❮ GEEKSTREET Talk Lane ❯❯ 03:00, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
