Speedy deletion of Dunedin branch
[edit]A tag has been placed on Dunedin branch requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Blowdart | talk 08:44, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

The thorney issue of 1985
[edit]Dear User:Galasphere347 you have deleated a sizable portion of the information about the thorny issue of 1985 without first placing the information on the talk page for disscussion as expressly requested on the main page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_National_Science_Fiction_Convention .
Would you kindly rectify this error as soon as you can?
Thankyou, --Timelord2067 (talk) 23:45, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- To this admin's eye there doesn't seem to be an error, except maybe on Timelord2067's part. No-one owns Wikipedia articles, and Galasphere347 was simply being bold in amending the information that had been added, much of which seems to have been incorrect. Grutness...wha? 02:51, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
I would have put the information on the talk page if the issue was a debatable one - but this was an issue of fact. Orcon was not a national convention and my entry explains why. End of story - and straight from the horse's mouth Galasphere347 (talk) 07:33, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
Hello again User:Glasphere347 I take it that you didn't actually read the article as written? The article wasn't speculation, rather, it was confirmation by thoses that attended the actual convention that Orcon really was the New Zealand National Science Fiction Convention for 1985.
I see the name Nigel Rowe was removed from your substite article... That might explain the wholesale removal of one article with a subtitute article. Must have been a shock to have the shoe on the other foot. --Timelord2067 (talk) 09:33, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi Timelord347. You've lost me. The entry was updated and improved by another user, no shock for me I'm afraid. Your sources that attended Orcon are incorrect - if anything, they are basing their view on the convention booklet, which, on the cover, states it was the seventh national convention. As explained in the entry, the Orcon committee had agreed with the Halleycon committee's view that the former wasn't in fact the seventh national convention because it had not made a bid at Norcon in 1984 for that title. It was simply too late to change the convention booklet as it had already been printed. I attended the convention and was involved in the committee. I know directly what happened - and still have all the convention progress reports, the convention booklet - as well as those of Halleycon the following year. I was also party to the discussions with the Halleycon committee, and was at the meeting at Norcon in 1984 where Halleycon was voted to be the next official national convention. I have also confirmed these facts directly with Nigel Rowe, who effectively founded and ran Orcon and Rex Thompson, a committee member for Halleycon. How much more proof do you want? I have plenty more. Galasphere347 (talk)
Proposed deletion of Worlds Beyond
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Worlds Beyond, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
