Critique of Ansel Adams article
Hello! I've done an annotated critique of the Ansel Adams article, which I invite you to review at User:Cullen328/Sandbox Ansel Adams. My wife gave me a copy of the Alinder biography for my birthday, which I've just finished reading. I am now prepared to make a lot of edits to the article, but will start out with various factual "nuggets" rather than a major rewrite. I know your time is valuable, but I hope to hear your thoughts on my suggestions to improve the article, so that the process can be a collaboration among all interested editors. New old photo
I found a free old photo of log rafts at Lock Haven - do you think this would be good for the Lock Haven article? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:53, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- Since you know more about the photographer, please feel free to swap out the photo, etc. I will delete the current log raft photo as it will be an orphaned fair use image (unless there is somewhere else it could be used?). Glad you like the silly chinchillas - they make me chuckle every time I see them. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 18:34, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- I am glad you wrote the caption - I would not have known the image was taken from the Jay Street Bridge or that it was the left (north) bank shown. There is a red link to Jay Street Bridge in List of crossings of the Susquehanna River - do you think it worth a stub which the historic photo could then be used to illustrate? Lok forward to the cat picture. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 20:09, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- I found the new picture looking for a free "Pennsylvania Desert" photo as I feared the one we've been using would not pass muster in terms of its license. I like the idea of the covered bridge photo and short article. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:13, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Re: Alt text
I know I have to add alt text to a bunch of FAs, but it is a real chore for me. I have seen a setup with a sheet of nonreflective glass to hold the page flat for photographing images in books. I plan to work on Quehanna Wild Area but have no images of it (yet). Also think Ganoga Lake can at least be a GA. I am working my way through reviewing Aliso Creek at FAC, nice to see it so much improved. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:28, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- I will push on and try and finish my Aliso Creek comments now then. Did you notice the alt text on the waterfalls composite? Almost as silly as the chinchillas... Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:17, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- Glad you liked it. I thought of "Waterfall x 24" too, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:45, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
- Glad it was OK to put it there - as an orphaned fair use image it could have been deleted otherwise. I was BOLD and just edited Aliso Creek to remove the only problem holding up my support - not sure what is taking Shannon so long to respond. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 05:02, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Oregon COTW and randomness
Greetings fellow WikiProject Oregon member, it is once again time for the Collaboration of the Week (yes, I know they are not actually every week anymore). Thank you to those who helped out the last few weeks improving Terrell Brandon, Just Out, 75th Oregon Legislative Assembly, and all the unreferenced BLPs. This week we have by request Oregon Coast Aquarium and Arvydas Sabonis (maybe the Blazers can sign him as I think he's healthy). Both need more sourcing. As always, click here to opt out of these messages, or click here to make a suggestion for a future COTW. And remember folks, the only thing we have to fear is death and taxes, unless of course the dingo ate your baby, at which point you may feel the need, the for speed to get away from said dingos, which in turn can lead to a failure to communicate due to the dynamics of sound waves, though at some point hopefully we can all just get along. Benet Academy peer review...again
Hi Finetooth. I just wanted to let you know that Benet Academy is up for another peer review here. Feel free to comment if you want.
I know that on the previous peer review, you suggested that I convert the Notable Alumni list into paragraphs. I have decided against that, mostly because I feel that embedded lists would be a better way to present the information in this specific situation. Let me know if you still disagree. Thanks for DRMC amendment
Hi Finetooth, thank you for your notable amendment of the article Dhaka Residential Model College. I am really glad to get assistance for further development of the article from such an experienced editor. It may be noted that I've been contributing to the article for a long time with a view to making it a GA and finally a FA. Currently I have prepared the article and waiting to get a peer review followed by nomination for GA. Ruhrfisch has consented to do the PR in the next week. If you help me in these processes in any way, I would be really indebted to you. Thank you. -- Tanweer (talk) 10:59, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Hello WikiProject Oregon member, time for a new edition of the Collaboration of the Week. Thank you to those who helped out the last few weeks improving Oregon Coast Aquarium and Arvydas Sabonis. Would you be available?
I have a reasonably short article that I put up at GAN. I literally exhausted all the sources that are out there on this guy. Would you be able to review it? Your review style is firm but fair and can only help an article. Let me know what you think; I would expect it to be a reasonably quick review. Article is Joseph H. Allen. Hepatica photo
The photo you have labeled as Hepatica nobilis isn't Hepatica. It is a nice photo though. It appears to be a species of wintergreen (Gaultheria), which is as the name implies, green in winter. Hepatica will have died back at this time of year (and when growing appears quite different from wintergreen). If you revisit Berry Botanic Garden, check the area for other labels for the plant you photographed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.104.39.2 (talk) 22:05, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I got the plant name from a label near the plant, but it's possible that the label was referring to a different plant within inches of this one. If you can figure out for sure what it really is, please correct the caption. If that's not possible, I might resort to the workaround of removing the name from the caption. Better no name than a wrong name. Finetooth (talk) 22:16, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, I see that you've already removed the image from the article. That eliminates the problem for this particular article, but the image is still on the Commons. I'd rather re-work the caption for the image on the Commons than to ask that it be removed entirely. I'll look into this. Thanks again. Finetooth (talk) 22:21, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank You for the peer review
I'd like to thank you for the peer review you did on South Jordan, Utah. It was very, very informative. One of these days I'll learn how to write... The main reason I'm in physics and computers.
I'm in the process of correcting the page with your suggestions, but I'm not sure about the Education and Transportation sections needing better sourcing. I thought with all the inline sourcing, external sources wouldn't be necessary. Could you please further explain and/or give me an example.Bgwhite (talk) 00:00, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, I was really unclear on what I was attempting saying.
- I'm confused. Do I need to add a citation when the wikilink contains the information?
- For example, "UTA's FrontRunner commuter rail system is set to be completed in 2012. There will be a station at South Jordan's eastern edge at 10200 South. When completed, Frontrunner will extended north to Ogden and south to Provo." The wikilink to 'Frontrunner' contains the information quoted.Bgwhite (talk) 03:18, 30 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for clearing things up about using wikilink citations. I learn best by doing and making mistakes and you have taught me alot by seeing all mistakes. You've been a great teacher for a newbie like me.Bgwhite (talk) 18:21, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

Singin' and Swingin' finally
Hey Finetooth, it took me pretty close to forever, but I've finally addressed the issues raised in your marvelous PR of Singin' and Swingin' and Gettin' Merry Like Christmas. I even added a Background section, as per your suggestion. Being lazy, I didn't bother responding to each issue after the PR was closed, but I think you'll be satisfied at how I followed your suggestions. Let me know what you think, please. Also, do you think that this article's ready to be submitted to FAC? 'Cause in my mind, that's the next logical step. Again, thanks for your helpful PR of this article; I really appreciate it. --Christine (talk) 05:22, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

PR request
Hi! Some time ago you did a most helpful PR for me on John Douglas (architect), and it led to the article's acceptance as a FA. Since then, with its associated four FLs, it has been accepted as the lead article in a FT (and this was the first FT in the Arts category!). Now I am working towards submitting Norton Priory as a FAC. Since this was accepted as a GA, I have expanded it with the findings of the excavations. Although it is not strictly in your published category of interest, would you be willing to carry out a PR on it? The link is here. Cheers.--Peter I. Vardy (talk) 16:56, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for your most helpful review and positive suggestions. It always surprises me (and I suppose it shouldn't) that however many times you go through an article, and others look at it, there are always some errors everyone's missed. I'm a bit over-excited at the moment because I am the main editor of Today's Featured Article on the main page (John Douglas (architect)) and for some hours earlier (simultaneously) the top DYK (with image) (Sir Thomas Grosvenor, 3rd Baronet) was an article I had created and nominated. (Is this the peak of my Wikilife?) When I calm down a bit, I'll deal with the improvements to Norton Priory.
- Also thanks for your invitation to carry out PRs myself. I suppose it's some sort of personality defect, but I feel most uncomfortable about doing this sort of thing. I know that it's the responsible thing to do, but having had a working life of duty and responsibility, I'm trying to enjoy my retirement; it's selfish I suppose, but I want to enjoy what I do on WP rather than get screwed up about things. So I admire those who do reviews and things, but still feel that "just" editing is also of value to the project. Anyway, that's my excuse!--Peter I. Vardy (talk) 10:41, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
- I've dealt with the points raised, other than a query about the tense to be used when quoting from authors. Perhaps if you could give your opinion, the review can move towards closure. Cheers.--Peter I. Vardy (talk) 16:00, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
your review
Hi Finetooth, I've been working out for the article DRMC as per your peer review. You have said that, ""freedom fighter" is one of those phrases probably best avoided because it expresses a point of view. Often one side in a conflict will use "freedom fighter" to describe a person it approves of, while the other side will use "thug" or something similar to describe the same person. The encyclopedia doesn't take sides." I understand that there should be no information that denies WP:NPOV. But the person (Sheikh Jamal) is mostly noted in Bangladesh as a freedom fighter, so what should I say to describe his notability? He is the son of founding leader of Bangladesh, but perhaps that can't be a qualification. Could you please help me in regard? -- Tanweer (Contribs|talk) 08:27, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Ganoga Lake
Thanks, I actually wrote Ganoga Lake back in February and nominated it at GAN on Feb. 23. I knew I was going to be pushing on Quehanna Wild Area and FAC rules have changed so you can only have one nom there at a time. Anyway, I didn't want to have something in the way of Quehanna (since the original goal was to get it to FA in time for April Fools). The GA reviewer found no major problems with Ganoga Lake in early April, and Dincher had already reviewed it with mostly nitpicks too. I looked at it closely again for the firt time in over a month, made some tweaks and sent it to PR. There Jackyd101 also found no major issues, so I went ahead and sent it to FAC where it had a quick and uneventful stay. I like Ricketts stuff - I am working on Clemuel Ricketts Mansion now (and Dincher and I are working on the main park article in a sandbox) ;-) Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:55, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:44, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

- Done the boon change. Please check the sic issue again and if necessary, please modify. --Redtigerxyz Talk 15:41, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for your continued effort and help. It is Fri night here and this is my last edit for the day. I will back to wiki on Sun afternoon. Wouldn't be able to edit tomorrow. If possible please read till the end. Also, repeatedly I am told that the article to read and understand for a non-expert. Do you any suggestions so that I can make the article simpler? Any unexplained jargon that troubles you? Thanks. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:42, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

- I will go through your suggestions one by one and tell you after your comments are answered. Is it possible for you to read to the end of the article? I have read it so many times, I often miss these things. Anyway thanks for your help. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:20, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comments. But instead of Partial proofing, can you please make the necessary changes too? The article has many reviewers, the article needs a copyeditor and proofreader. Can please take up that position? It would be a great help. Thanks. --Redtigerxyz Talk 04:34, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

The Reviewers Award | ||
Given with respect and admiration to Finetooth on the occasion of your 500th peer review. Thanks for all you do at peer review and everywhere on Wikipedia. Your friend, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:46, 6 May 2010 (UTC) |
- I do not keep as close a count lately as you do, but am pretty sure I hit 1000 in January. I also count as PRs when I comment on an article's talk page (since there are people who will ask for feedback that way, often as a "second PR"). Congrats again, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:14, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- Congrats on the Featured Picture! Very nice, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:15, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Working on a GA review
Hi there Finetooth. I'm working on a page being reviewed for GA status, Maritime Fur Trade. If you had the time I wondered if you might be interested in taking a look. Your thoughts about how to improve articles are usually helpful. It's just a GA review though and I know you are more FA quality ;-) (or PA?) Actually I have a specific question you might have come across before. One should not reuse names for sections and subsections within an article, right? But what to do if the structure is something like: Section 1, subsection topic-A, topic-B, topic-C; Section 2, subsection topic-A, B, C? Does that make sense? Sections in which the same set of topics are covered. It would be logical to use the same subsection names, but for wikilinking reasons that option is out. So... ? Pfly (talk) 20:05, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your review
Thanks for your review of Saint Joseph Parish (Mountain View, California). And thank you also for finding the linked date. I had seen it with the automated review in the toolbox, but my eye just never saw where it was.
I'll work on it more when I get home. Thanks again!

Hello there Finetooth. What is the best what (or where is the best place) to respond to your feedback? When I start to sort through the issues you cited, where should I annotate them?
Thanks! -- Alvincura (talk) 02:05, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Rogue River
Thanks for the heads up, I just supported the FAC. I am about to take an article there myself, but the pictures are not as lovely as yours. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:10, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
- I had a lot of trouble figuring out the TMDLs for Ganoga Lake, so I figured temperature might be murkier. The historic stone house on the same lake is at FAC now. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:37, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Mechanical filter
Thanks for your review of Mechanical filter. I think all the points are now addressed, so would you care to take a second look to see if anything remains outstanding? I would also appreciate your comments regarding the "sandwiching" issue discussed on the peer review page. SpinningSpark 11:43, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the kind words. As you are the "godfather" of rivers, once you started helping me with your review, I knew it would receive the attention the article it needed to get to FA. I'm still working on your suggestions from Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Jordan River (Utah)/archive1. I set the permissions so you can see the map. I added a different map in the watershed section that shows the elevation figuring the "new" map being created would go into the infobox.
Out of your suggestions, I still have left geology, map and discharge/acre-feet. I've been researching geology yesterday and today.... wish I still worked in the same building as the Department of Geology on campus. I should have everything done today. I'll still answer/ask questions on the candidate page even if the nomination has been closed. Bgwhite (talk) 20:59, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
Congrats
Congrats on taking Rogue River (Oregon) all the way to FA![1] It's a fantastic article; great job! Sincerely, LittleMountain5 15:22, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- The Mansion was strictly a Ruhrfisch project and he's out in the sticks this weekend. I may text him and let him know, but he's pretty far out there. Congrats on Rogue River! Dincher (talk) 17:53, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Image stretching
The reason I made the pixel 800 was because I found that the screen stretched too much and I have also seen people complaining about "Why can't you guys fit everything in the same screen?" Hence I thought that 800px wouldnot detrimine the image quality and also keep the image within the screen resolution. Feel free to revert if you disagree. --Legolas (talk2me) 03:29, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
DYK for Robert Deniston Hume
On May 29, 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Robert Deniston Hume, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Douglas Jardine FAC
Hello. A while ago, you commented on the peer review for Douglas Jardine. I've put it up for FAC here and I wondered if you would have time to have a look. Thanks. --Sarastro1 (talk) 10:42, 29 May 2010 (UTC)
Marie and Julien PR
Thanks, just what I was looking for. I'd got so close to the text that I couldn't see some of those issues. I already did my bit with another peer review. Fences&Windows 16:20, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- I've finally got to grips with this; I've made all the changes you suggested, and introduced a themes and analysis section. The article's probably stronger now, so thanks very much. Fences&Windows 00:17, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
Independent Review Request on Stephens City, Virginia
Hello, I am awaiting an official peer review, but was told by a FAC delegate to get as many people looking at the page as possible. The page just received GA status today. At your earliest convenience, could you take a look at the Stephens City, Virginia page and review it (placing it on the page's talk page or mine is fine) independent of the official peer review. I would open to any and all requests during the review. Thanks...NeutralHomer • Talk • 01:23, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
- I have left a question here (so as to not clog up your talk page). As I work, I will add more comments/questions as necessary, so you might want to watchlist the page. Thanks again...NeutralHomer • Talk • 01:11, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't follow that article, but I'll help address comments as they come up. I also nominated Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository which I was surprised had not yet been nominated. I found these by scanning the project's popular page list. I think Lake Tahoe is only references away from advancing to A or GA on the assessment scale. I have not been able to find sources for most the the remaining needed citations. So if you can help on either of those, it would be appreciated. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:19, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

About time!
Hey Finetooth, I have *finally* completed addressing all the issues you brought up during the PR of International co-productions of Sesame Street. You'll notice that I followed your suggestion about changing the list there to a prose format, and I think the article is much improved as a result. Please take a look and let me know what you think! I think that I'm gonna let it simmer for a couple of months, and get a copyedit of Singin' and Swingin' and Gettin' Merry Like Christmas so I can resubmit it for FAC. But thanks for your help with both articles. Christine (talk) 05:32, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Finetooth. I reviewed this article's GAN nomination, but some recent edits make me cautious about passing it before a look from a primary contributor. Could you check if you get a chance? Juliancolton (talk) 15:39, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
TCM Peer review
Hi, thanks for reviewing The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Most of the issues have been resolved, except for the second images alt text and the point on the reference dating consistency. In terms of the reference dates, do you mean that the actual dates and the accessdates need to be in the same style of format? --The Taerkasten (talk) 21:04, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Help with another Nevada GA nomination
You have been working on this GA nomination. There is also another GA nomination from the same area, Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. If you have the time and interest, it would be nice to have some additional help on that article. Thanks. Vegaswikian (talk) 21:35, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
Stephens City, Virginia
I read you are stretched a little thin right now, but when you get a moment, could you re-review this GA review done by Xtzou. Apparently, Xtzou was a sock of indef blocked User:Mattisse. I want to make sure the Stephens City, Virginia article is up to snuff, hence my request. When you get a chance, please take a look. Thanks. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 04:07, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
