Hi, I'm the one who made changes prior to your recent change. I made some suggestions in the discussion, please take a look and let us know what you think. Thank you :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.212.21.99 (talk) 21:59, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because it's the holiday season and there are plenty of off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, --Elonka 10:14, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Citations

[edit]

If one article (Karate in this case) draws on material from another article (Japan, which is well cited), is it possible to cite the article on Japan, to get rid of criticism about having uncited material?

Thanks! RogueNinjatalk 17:00, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think so. I tried to find the relevant bit on a policy page, but could not. But because Wikipedia is ever-changing, it's not a good idea to cite one page to support another. This is why schoolchildren are not supposed to cite Wikipedia. If Japan article has solid sources, why not pick them up at the library and use them to source karate? Admin coaching

[edit]

So I'm a recent graduate of the admin coaching process. I found it very useful, and would like to help out more with it. I was wondering what you would think of sending a message to those on the Wikipedia:Admin_coaching/Volunteers page asking them to reconfirm their membership. At the same time, that page could be merged with Wikipedia:Admin_coaching/Status. And on the status page, it might make sense to add a variable "Capacity", so an coach who can handle 5 students, but has three, would have a capacity of 3/5. Admin Coaching Re-confirmation

[edit]

Hello, previously you expressed interest in participating in the Wikipedia:Admin coaching project. We are currently conducting a reconfirmation drive to give coaches the opportunity to update their information and capacity to participate in the project. Please visit Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Status to update your status. Also, please remember to update your capacity (5th table variable) in the form of a fraction (eg. 2/3 means you are currently coaching 2 students, and could accept 1 more student). Thank you. Citing Wikipedia

[edit]

Hi, Erica. It certainly has been a long time since we've been in touch, hasn't it? Well, I'm relatively free now, so I can contribute again. Enough talk; I'd like to ask a quesiton. Is it allowed if an article cites Wikipedia as a source? --Zacharycrimsonwolf 14:14, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

She's on a long wiki-break, so I'll jump in here. Generally if an article cites Wikipedia as a source, its not that great of a source, since its a circular reference. Now if your using it to prove the article cited wikipedia "And Timec ited Wikipedia s the 5th most influential journal" thats a good cite. But something like "And according to Wikipedia, all cats have 5 legs" is a bad one. If there is any doubt, the people over at reliable sources have probably seen it before and have a good answer. Just noticed that you deleted Zardiw. I thought bios of living people was allowed. In any case, what's the matter, is wikipedia running out of disk space???..........From reading your user page, you seem to be pretty delete happy. PS. Why don't you just delete the USER zardiw, and be done with it..........I only come here rarely anyway anymore, cause wikipedia has really gone down the tubes with all these little Hitlers running around.........z

I re-created an article that you deleted. If I re-created it in error, then I would not oppose its re-deletion, as long as it's taken to WP:RFD instead of being speedied. Hi, I'm the author of an article on Fritz Kachler (happens to be my uncle). I would like to improve it but don't know how. Could you expand his competitive highlights to show the following? (1911,bronze...1912,gold...1913,gold...1914,silver...1922,silver...1923,gold...1925,silver). Also if you could delete my own edits from the edit history on him. I also would like to indicate that the source of the information on him was his daughter and my mother (his sister-in-law). Finally, could you sign the article for me with my name, George Kletter? Thanking you in advance for any help you can give me in this regard, George —Preceding unsigned comment added by Georgehwk (talkcontribs) 17:06, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would be happy to help you but I am very busy with "real life" at the moment. There are numerous help pages on Wikipedia that explain how to edit. Try Wikipedia:Help for starters. I can't delete your edits from the edit history; I don't have that power and the people who do only do it in extreme cases. Lastly, articles are not signed and are not attributed to any one author, as this encyclopedia is a communal effort. Thank you, Fang Aili talk 16:58, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Andrew Carlton page

[edit]

Dear Fang Aili,

My name is Charles and I am curious as to why you deleted Andrew Carlton from Wikipedia. He is a nationally renown recording artist with Billboard and R & R charting success with thousands of albums sold. His song broke Billboard's Adult AC Top 20 and he was featured on the cover page of itunes. He can also be found at major locations like windowsmedia.com, itunes, and target.com. I did not create the article, but I am a fan and gather you are not. I see it only fit that you research and reference this artist, as well as re-establish his page and charting history, per the bi-laws and notability standards of Wikipedia.

Thank you,

Charles Standifer standifercharles@yahoo.com

Stop deleting

[edit]

I've looked at your deletion record, and you are pedantically deleting important pages for no legitimate reason.

You cite all kinds of specious, fallacious reasons...unfortunately I fear you are doing it just out of a need to pedantic and a kind of 'snobbery' in which you look down your nose at people who aren't the kind of people YOU THINK should be involved in wikipedia.

This website is for everyone. You are wrong to delete entries like the one for the alt/rock band Mr. Gnome. It was a perfectly viable entry and you deleted it because you are a wikipedia snob.

I am a music writer and wikipedia is a valuable resource for beginning my research. OF COURSE it is just a starting point (don't criticize how I do research, I'm a professional and I know what constitutes a valid source).

The Mr. Gnome entry should not have been deleted, and you were wrong for doing so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.27.170.226 (talk) 17:55, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You apprently don't know anything about Wikipedia guidelines. Please go educate yourself. --Fang Aili talk 21:11, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

not only is mr gnome referenced in some wikipedia pages, it is a signed, notable band. Several unassociated people have told me about mr. Gnome, which means that it must have some amount of notability. If that is not enough reason, just look at the fact that this band has been reviewed by Rolling Stone. Enough said. Also, it only seems logical for wikipedia to minimize the number of red links in its pages if it is to truly build a comprehensive encyclopedia. Looking at your delete log, you did make some pretty obvious moves, but this one IS notable enough to have its own page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.226.167.245 (talk) 00:16, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Andrew Carlton Page Response

[edit]

Dear Fang,

I sincerely appreciate your response to my comments. Here's my dilemma: you mentioned that the content was copyright infringement. However, it was simply Andrew Carlton's bio, initially released and intended for re-print by his publicist at Bakertown Records, (2602 Mesa Drive, Suite 200, Nashville, TN). I'm a professor in communications and journalism and it's quite common in the world of "AP" and editorial to simply print, re-print, and/or publish the original press release with only a few changes followed by a signature of the article "writer's" name. Should the content have simply cited the "author" by putting the entire thing in quotes? Again, I sincerely mean no disrespect, but aren't we splitting hairs here? As opposed to deleting, couldn't you have just as quickly added quotes plus references? The content, biography, background, and story of this artist was entirely true. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Standifercharles (talkcontribs) 03:33, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you're saying. Wikipedia doesn't work under the traditional rules of journalism. (See Wikipedia:Copyrights.) If the bio is released under GFDL, we can use it on Wikipedia. Please check his website and see if the license is noted--it should say something like, "This website is released under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL)." If it is I will be happy to restore the article. --Fang Aili talk 21:08, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Fang Aili (aka Erica) I have been trying to research some ancient history for a story I am writing. I am curious why you chose to delete information on this Castle. It seems perfect for my story and I can't find anything but a picture of it. (Of course, because I am an old person, I am not very good at the internet thing.) I will continue to try to get my information. I was just curious. Thank you for your time, Sharon Kjensmo wwjd7891@yahoo.com

I'm sorry, I wasn't able to find a record of me deleting anything by that name. I looked at my last 1000 deletes, going back to about July 2007. If you could be more specific I could search again. Do you know what the exact name of the article that was deleted? Thanks, Fang Aili talk 17:52, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese Figure Skating Championships

[edit]

Hi, Erica, I'm Wikipedian of japanese page. Could you tell me about Chinese Figure Skating Championships? I can't understand Chinese language.

When I try to edit the page of ja:中国フィギュアスケート選手権, I find difference bitween the result of Chinese: 全国花样滑冰锦标赛 and ISU's national result of ISU Communication 1521. The row of 2008 of the page of en-wiki is from ISU's. Then, after browsing www.chnfs.org, I guess that ISU's national result is the same to 07/08 男单项目运动员3站最好积分 and other wemen, pair, dance. But, maybe other rows made by Chinese language sources. ( I think so by looking page history.)

What is "Chinese Figure Skating Championships" in the page of Chinese Figure Skating Championships?

Originally this ja-wiki's page was translated from Chinese Figure Skating Championships(by history page). We must change ja-wiki page substantially in some cases.--219.54.243.105amI (talk) 04:53, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry -- I don't understand your question. --Fang Aili talk 05:50, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
2008's "Medalists" in the list of the page "Chinese Figure Skating Championships" are not Medalists of "全国花样滑冰锦标赛". Which is mistake, 2008's "Medalists" or sentences at the top of the page?--219.54.243.105amI (talk) 10:18, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know. I would need to do some research before I could answer you. --Fang Aili talk 02:36, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. We've also investigated, and known that 2007-08's ranking at ISU-Biographys is the same of the result of 中华人民共和国第十一届冬季运动会花样滑冰比赛.
Then, the names written in 2007 and before are ISU-Biography, aren't they?--219.54.243.105amI (talk) 11:45, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Go ahead and make any changes as you see fit, and add your references. --Fang Aili talk 23:47, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page for "Raddle" dismissed as nonsense

[edit]

You deleted a page for "Raddle" as nonsense and it is not. It is a type of paint used in farming to mark the bellies of male sheep so that it can be determined which ewes that he has mated with so that they may be separated from the rest of the flock. The term is in use across the UK, Australia and New Zealand at least. Please restore the page, checking more carefully next time when encountering words you have not heard of. 78.32.58.108 (talk) 21:40, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please assume good faith. This article, as written, was nonsense. It wasn't about the paint you describe. If you'd like to write an article about it, you are welcome to do so. Have a great day, Fang Aili talk 22:34, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WHY?

[edit]

Dear Fang Aili,

I wanted to ask you why you deleted the article "Najee Mondalek." ? Najee Mondalek is a famous arab american actor. I can provide you with tons of articles written in US, Lebanese, Canadian and Australian journals and newspapers. Thank you for your time and patience. Azizuccio (talk) 07:41, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was deleted twice as non-notable, and a 3rd time because it (that iteration) was a copyright violation. I have restored the article so that you have a chance to add the supporting articles you mentioned above. It was probably deleted because a google search on him doesn't reveal much, but google isn't infallible. Let me know if there's anything else I can do. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 20:32, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response. I added some articles and a website as references. Please let me know what is the next step. I don't want this article to be deleted again. Thank you. Azizuccio (talk) 09:05, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Questions about a deletion

[edit]

Hi Fang Ali,

I was browsing an entry for Claude Steiner, clicked a link for a term he has used, emotion literacy, and found the entry was deleted with this record: 03:33, 6 January 2007 Fang Aili deleted "Emotional literacy" ‎ (content was: '{{db-nonsense}}Emotional literacy is the ability to recognize, understand and appropriately express our emotions. by Ayman Sawaf'). [1]

Although I'm still young in Wikipedia administration terms, I gather that the page was speedy deleted as 'patent nonsense, consisting purely of incoherent text or gibberish with no meaningful content or history.' Granted it's difficult to define terms attempting to communicate about psychological or emotional matters; still, I find it hard to believe the page entry fit Wikipedia's definition as nonsense.

Must such a Wikipedia entry be definitive? Can differences in or difficulty in defining a phrase, or or controversy about the phrase be indicated in the entry? Emotion literacy is a phrase in fairly wide use, with a number of web sites & organizations referring to it; I would appreciate an attempt at definition, or a listing of various expert definitions if there's no absolute consensus. I've seen wiki pages tagged as incomplete...would that have been appropriate here?

I'd be willing to attempt a more coherent & verifiable entry, with whatever citations I can find, if it has a chance of being used.

Thanks,

Dsackett (talk) 20:56, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dsackett. When something is deleted as nonsense, that means the article content is nonsense, not that the article name is necessarily nonsense. So it is possible that there could be a perfectly legitimate article written for "emotional literacy", and you are more than welcome to write it if you wish! Let me know if that doesn't answer your question. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 23:42, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Question

[edit]

Hi Fang Aili,

I have an inquiry about the article Huddle (software) which was deleted a couple of years ago. I would like to recreate the article so that the application can be listed on List_of_collaborative_software.

I don't know what the Huddle article looked like, so I'm not sure why it was deleted, but the history indicates the article may not have established why the web application was significant for inclusion in Wikipedia. A search on google of "online collaboration" returns List_of_collaborative_software as the first hit, and then huddle.net as the sixth, which should make it relevant for inclusion in the article. Additionally, Huddle has recently received media attention for its inclusion in LinkedIn's application launch [2].

Huddle is similar to other tools such as Central_Desktop and Basecamp_(software), and the Huddle article, if written from a neutral point of view, would fall under the umbrella of the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Business project.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Thanks,

3thirdsawake (talk) 10:03, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Photo request

[edit]

Would it be convenient for you to fulfill a photograph request down by Oak Creek, Wisconsin/Milwaukee Airport? If so, would you mind photographing the Midwest Airlines headquarters and uploading it to the Commons? The HQ is at 6744 South Howell Avenue. Please try to get a photo of the building. If the building is unmarked or if you are unable to go close to the building, then please try to get a photo of the sign into the complex with the building preferably in the background. Small request

[edit]

Hi, Fang. (Is that your first name?)

I have a very small request for you. One of the userboxes of your userpage User:Fang Aili/Backup uses the deprecated {{Qif}} template, and therefore this page shows up in an error category. Would you be so kind to replace it with the new version of the userbox at User:UBX/vandalized. Thank you very much. Debresser (talk) 09:45, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ondine

[edit]

Please Help! - I am looking for the support of ballet and dance enthusiasts on Wikipedia, to help me prevent the proposed merging of Ondine (Ashton), into an article about the ballet's music. The music for this ballet would not have been written had it not been for the choreographer Frederick Ashton, who commissioned it specially for this ballet. This ballet was one of Ashton's most famous works and it would be a terrible shame for this article to be merged into an article that focusses primarily on the music and the composer rather than the ballet and the choreography.

See here: - Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Classical_music#Straw_Poll

Please vote to oppose this change, as this music would not have been written had it not been for Ashton's ballet!!!

Thank You

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Fang Aili! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 10 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Admin Coaching: Reconfirmation

[edit]

I was looking through the coaches at Wikipedia:Admin_coaching/Status and saw that there are a lot under "reconfirmation".

Could you let me know if you are still interesting in being involved with Admin Coaching, or if you would prefer to have your name removed from the "reconfirmation" list and placed on the "retired" list. If you want to be involved, could you please move your entry from "Reconfirmation" to "Active" and indicate how many students you would be willing to have (obviously, if you are actively coaching at the moment, then please indicate this!)

If I do not hear from you within a week, I will assume that you would like to have your name removed from the list of coaches and moved to the retired list.

2D-Plus Deletion...

[edit]

I would like to reintroduce a general article about 2D-Plus(R) bidimensional code. How can I do this?

Thank for you help. Best regards.

Example:

2D-Plus Code(R) (registered trademark by Secure Edge s.r.l Rome, Italy) is a bidimensional matrix barcode. It was devised to carry a huge load of data through high density output ( by surface unit). The code peculiar feature is the capability to set different output values (height and width size) to allow different geometrical output layouts .

Hey!

This may be a longshot, but I am trying to track down some content that you removed on March 8, 2007, on a page about the company FASTSIGNS. You cited "advertising" as the reason for deletion:

I would like to read over this content to see if it can be re purposed and resubmitted. Any help in locating it would be great. Thanks!

Hey! I've been country- and state-hopping during the past few years. (Gypsy life is somewhat overrated.) Well, WP-wise, I got involved in the semi-competitive wikify drive. Andinet International School page deleted--please restore!

[edit]

Hi Fang,

You recently deleted a new Wikipedia page about Andinet International School, a school located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. You cited copyright infringement as the reason for the deletion. Please be aware that the founder and Executive Director of Andinet International School, Mrs. Nefertiti Makeda, gave her express consent for the page to be created and launched....in fact, she helped edit the page. The portions of the page that utilize wording from the Andinet International School website at andinet.edu.et, was written by Mrs. Makeda and it is with her express consent that those words (which are hers) are used. The same applies to the information taken from yet another site, which again, she wrote. This page therefore does NOT violate copyrights in any way (proof can be submitted to that extent) and as it is a site about a very popular school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia it should be restored. Wikipedia has many, many web pages about many, many different schools and there is absolutely no reason why those schools should be allowed to have web pages while AIS' is not.

Please correct this error and restore this page as soon as possible, as we are in the process of editing and designing the page, with pictures and graphics. Information about the Executive Director and Founder, Mrs. Makeda will be added and if any information needs to be submitted in order to prove that she has approved the use of all materials that she and AIS have prepared, then please let us know and we will submit those documents. Otherwise, please kindly restore our page.

Thank You,

Mwannesi Wade AIS English Teacher and Co-Author of Andinet International School--Wikipedia page P.O. Box 1289 Addis Ababa, Ethiopia themakedafnd@aol.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by LavendarGirl1 (talkcontribs) 08:54, 6 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted language category mvs-1

[edit]

I'd like to request that you re-create the WP:BABEL mvs categories for the Creek language.

(09:51, 1 November 2006 Fang Aili (talk | contribs) deleted "Category:User mvs-1" ‎ (content was: Empty except for unused templates {{User language subcategory|| language-code = mvs| language-name = Creek language| level = 1| description...')

Since the deletion I have become a student of the language. I have also participated in a few WP discussions of the Creek language as a source of place names in the American South, so finding fluent speakers (and Creek-English dictionary owners) might be useful to other editors. Formal language-study programs are now available in Oklahoma, an archive of Creek documents and publications is online, and an English-language course in Creek literature and culture has been offered at Emory University in Atlanta. There is other evidence that the number of Creek speakers is growing after generations of decline. So it seems probable that more Creek speakers will take part in Wikipedia in the near future, if they are not already here. — ℜob C. alias ᴀʟᴀʀoʙ 18:25, 18 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I restored [[Category:User mvs-1]] and [[Category:User mvs-N]], and as I was trying to figure out what to do next I noticed

04:25, 27 August 2007 CBM (talk | contribs | block) deleted "Category:User mvs" ‎ (per ucfd of aug 21 2007) (view/restore)

I don't know where the ucfd is (user category for deletion?) but I assume it's not a problem to re-create these categories. But they might just get deleted again if they remain empty. I'm going to restore the rest of the language levels. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. --Fang Aili talk 02:35, 19 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

62d Operations Group

[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you've undone several attempts by other users to correct "62nd Operations Group" to "62d Operations Group". I am currently an active-duty master sergeant serving in the 62 OG, and I can tell you authoritatively that the US Air Force doesn't use "nd" as an ordinal abbreviation. The 62 OG is appropriately titled "62d Operations Group," as is the 62d Airlift Wing and the 62d Operations Support Squadron. I have changed them all yet again. While I appreciate you are getting your information from the link you posted (http://www.62aw.af.mil/units/index.asp), that link's information is incorrect. Please do not change them back to "nd".

Also, I changed "McChord Air Force Base" to "Joint Base Lewis-McChord," as it is properly known now.

Please note that this change doesn't apply to older names: the Air Force dropped the "nd" in the early 1990s, so those older names are correct with the "nd".

Tech (talk) 19:19, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sergeant. First of all, thank you for your service to our country. Secondly, I don't recall editing that page, but if I come across it or one like it, I will keep your note in mind. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 03:00, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Treehouse

[edit]

My page has been deleted before I have made the necessary changes. I believe it was unfairly deleted as it was informative and not promotional and a work in progress. Having mentioned that- there are tonnes of promotional articles on Wikipedia and I struggle to find how they are 'notable'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andries c (talkcontribs) 09:28, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately your articles about Treehouse were written like advertisements, and would have to be completely rewritten before they were suitable for Wikipedia. Also, Wikipedia has notability requirements which Treehouse did not appear to meet. --Fang Aili talk 09:32, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Erika, I currently work with Mr. Morais as managing director of a Mozambican Bank where he currently holds the position of Vice President. As Marketing falls under my responsibility, I am in charge of keeping his image. I've noticed that you have deleted a considerable amount of information on his wikipage and before I edit any of the information, I was wondering if you could explain to me the reasons why the current information was removed so I don't make any mistakes that were related to the deletion. Thank you very much for your help. Best regards
