Wikidata weekly Summary #621

Week 2/ef2467

I edited: OpenAI. I went into more detail about the public reaction of the first look at OpenAI's Sora product, I captured the temperature of the entertainments feeling on from the words of Tyler Perry. Here is the link to the diff

I found it interesting to use my background knowledge on a topic to enrich and inform an audience better and also learning more on the inner workings of the wiki platform. Ef2467 (talk) 02:29, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

@Ef2467 Your edit does not fulfill the Wikipedia policy of citing reliable, third-party WP:INDEPENDENT published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy WP:RELIABLE to support your claim. As discussed in the assignment and class, always use a reliable source, such as an academic journal article or another high-quality reference. Avoid blogs, corporate websites, reviews, press releases, sources where we cannot determine author expertise or bias, and opinion pieces as they generally do not count as reliable sources. Please either assign yourself a different article and add a credible source that is needed to it or find and cite a more reliable source to the one you edited. Ping me here when done, and I will review. FULBERT (talk) 17:08, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
Hello @FULBERT, within my edit i cited Forbes which was mentioned as one of these reliables sources per the wiki training, I referenced this Forbes article which has words directly from an interview with Tyler Perry, Im not sure how much more reliable that it can get. Also not to mention in the paragraph right above my edit there is another use of Forbes as a citation by a different editor (seen here), even within our class another person is using "The Harvard Crimson" which is just a student ran "blog" and the author of the cited article I wouldn't say we can determine their expertise within the topic area but the author took direct quotes from the Harvard professor in question, Not much different from what I did with the Forbes article but yet full credit was given to this student.
I would request you reconsider my original edit or provide feedback thats consistent with what you've accepted from my classmates. Thank you Ef2467 (talk) 17:48, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
@Ef2467 I see the words you added but do not see a citation for your work. Did I miss an inserted citation? FULBERT (talk) 18:49, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
@FULBERT Yes i added the citation to my original edit but has since been removed. I am not sure who removed it. I will add the citation back for your review Ef2467 (talk) 19:36, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
Here is the revision with the article properly cited again @FULBERT Ef2467 (talk) 19:41, 24 March 2024 (UTC)
@Ef2467 This is now fine. Odd, as in your initial edit I did not see this citation added, only the addition of the words themselves without the reference. All in order now and current with Week 2. FULBERT (talk) 00:32, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Week 2/Zefeng Jing

Danny Garcia sources

Fulbert, Thanks for your reply. Can you reinstate the update you deleted 2 days ago? with any necessary "sources"? needed in the background? I have No Idea how it's done. Just wanted the "91 -2003 post BB career added at the end. I may open a free Wikipedia account later this spring, but not right now. I think I would enjoy editing, but would have to learn the technical aspects. Once again, thx DG 24.184.72.115 (talk) 20:29, 24 March 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for the sources. I used them to improve the article overall. FULBERT (talk) 00:56, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Greetings Fulbert (Review Request)

Hi Fulbert, I hope all is going well. I'm still on my Wiki journey. I created a new Article I would like for you to review if possible John Kwatakye-Atiko I'm working on music and media topics moving forward. Thanks again for your guidance Fulbert. Opnionatedone (talk) 09:35, 25 March 2024 (UTC)

@Opnionatedone I made a few edits and think it is fine overall. It may benefit from a few additional sources, but I think there is enough there for present. FULBERT (talk) 01:08, 26 March 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestions and ongoing support. Opnionatedone (talk) 17:19, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Week 3/ kph7917

The article I edited is Digital transformation. I added an incremental approach to digital transformation from HBR called discovery-driven planning (DDP). Here is the diff of my edit [1]

I think this knowledge is beneficial because so often people tackle digital transformation with an all-or-nothing approach, leading to failure. This approach mitigate risks by transforming incrementally and I believe this knowledge is useful as all companies need to undergo digital transformations eventually to stay competitive in this digital era.

Kph7917 (talk) 14:17, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

@Kph7917 Nice edit. Current with Week 3. FULBERT (talk) 17:08, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Week 2/YM2419

I edited the following article Remote work, this my diff page showcasing the changes I have made. I learned how to add a new citation in Wikipedia using the DOI and I learned to make a new edit to a new section contributing to existing body of work using my research. It was interesting to read through the article and to find the best appropriate section you can add additional beneficial knowledge too. Ym2419 (talk) 03:51, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

@Ym2419 Overall this fine. You do not need to mention the title of the article in the edit itself, as that will be included in the citation you added. Current with Week 2. FULBERT (talk) 17:12, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

The Signpost: 29 March 2024

Danny Garcia update reference/citation?

Fulbert thank you for the ref additions. I see a citation? is needed for the Wichita Wranglers. I found something useful? I even tried inserting it myself. Not quite an editor! Here's the reference you may be able to insert for me.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Wichita_Wranglers

Once again, thanks for your efforts. DG 24.184.72.115 (talk) 15:05, 28 March 2024 (UTC)

Another editor added the citation needed tag as the one that is there, which is the same as the one you shared here, is itself user-generated content. This could benefit from a reliable, third-party WP:INDEPENDENT published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy WP:RELIABLE. These should avoid blogs, corporate websites, reviews, press releases, sources where we cannot determine author expertise or bias, and opinion pieces as they generally do not count as reliable sources. Is there a more reliable source that can be used for this? FULBERT (talk) 17:16, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
I'll try & find one. dg 24.184.72.115 (talk) 12:23, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
Long time ago! https://www.comc.com/Cards/Baseball/1992/SkyBox_Pre-Rookie_-_Wichita_Wranglers/650/Sonny_Siebert_Danny_Garcia/3081961 Does this help? Not sure I can find anything else. Any suggestions. dg 24.184.72.115 (talk) 15:33, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
I will add it though would not be surprised if it gets removed as it is not the type of source common to provide evidence. FULBERT (talk) 12:58, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

Week 3 / Xc1181

I edited the article of Quantum computing

Wikidata weekly summary #622

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello FULBERT,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
