Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited No. 17 Squadron RAF, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Malaya (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

IX(B) Sqn active service dates

[edit]

Hi, I notice that your edit to the IX(B) Squadron page of 2047hrs 16 May 2020 undid the edit I made to the Squadron's active service dates in my edit of 2305hrs 1 April 2019. Rather than just reverting I wanted to understand why you are citing the dates of the parades as marking disbandment and stand-up, when the outgoing and incoming commanders are clear in their video clip that they considered the squadron to have had unbroken service during the transition, going so far as to synchronise hauling of their pennants? I accept that the RAF website news article on the Lossiemouth parade describes it as marking 'stand up' but I would consider that to be a less reliable source (probably written by a PR person) than the squadron commanders themselves speaking on 1 April, who are the most likely people to know the true status of their unit. Eazix (talk) 01:47, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I changed it because my interpretation of the sources, specifically their phrasing, was that IX(B) Squadron did officially disband on 14 March 2019, along with 31 Sqn. So while the squadron continued to be active until the OSD for the Tornado, which I tried to clarify in the article - similarly with the Typhoon in April, it had yet to be formally stood up - which it was on 2 May 2019. This might be whataboutism but the same argument could also be made for 31 Squadron as they were still maintaining readiness up until 1 April 2019, however there seems to be a consensus that 31 Sqn did disband on 14 March 2019.

I can certainly understand your argument and if you wish to revert my edit I have no issues as I think the sources can be used to argue this both ways. However I'd say it's worth changing the disbandment date of 31 Squadron at the same time if you do.

This isn't really relevant to the discussion but looking at the active dates for IX(B) Sqn when they converted from the Vulcan to the Tornado you could also infer unbroken service as the Tornado IX(B) Designate Squadron was active for almost a month before the Vulcan IX(B) Squadron disbanded. Edit: after having a look around, No. 31 Squadron's pennant was put up at Cranwell on 2 April 2019 which would give credence to 31 Sqn's true disbandment date being the 1 April? Which would mean that my edits were incorrect for both units. F4JPhantomII (talk) 20:10, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
