Article 'Characteristica Universalis' re. Leibniz
[edit]Hi, not sure if you can help me out with this, but I see you edited the article in some way and I Really want to find the citation for the following two sentences:
The writings of Alexander Gode suggested that Leibniz' characteristica had a metaphysical bias which prevented it from reflecting reality faithfully. Gode emphasized that Leibniz established certain goals or functions first, and then developed the characteristica to fulfill those functions.
Really want to know where in Gode's writings this appears! Any help seriously appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Schoenborges (talk • contribs) 14:07, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Systems science articles
[edit]Hi, Erkan Yilmaz
I noticed the series of improvements you have been making to articles in the field of systems science for quite some time now. In order to thank you for all your work, I like to awarded you the Copyeditor Star for your tireless work in copyediting articles in the field of systems science.
Again many thanks,
-- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 17:33, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Marcel, thanks. Thanks also for making this possible - during my readings I just followed the paths/works you (mostly) and other editors laid out. I am sure we will cross paths more often :-) ----Erkan Yilmaz 17:46, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you. Indeed I hope this is an encouragment to continu your good work. If you want support some more, I would like invite you to join the Wikipedia:WikiProject Systems. You have already assisted a lot in developing the article series, and I would make you an honored member myself if that option was possible. If you have other suggestions are ideas please let me know. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 18:18, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- P.S. I copied your comment here to keep the discussion at one place.
- Sure, I will keep going with it. I want to extend my knowledge about systems. Also visiting a lecture (title: What are systems? from philosophy institute) from where I can get some other input (already many things on reading list). Suggestions, ideas: will surely come. Same also counts for you - if you need some additional help for something: tell me.
- Wikiproject: template added :-) ----Erkan Yilmaz 18:32, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, Please also add your username to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Systems/Participants. This is more or less for the outside world. By the way, last week I tried to count how much of the articles I started you already improved. When I passed the 25 I lost track. I hope you learn something a long the way. I also created a group on YouTube, see here, which brings togehter some movies about the systems scientists, which is quite interesting. But I am not that active out there. I have listed all articles I started on my user page, and I would be very much obliged, if you eventually would go over all of them once. English language is not my strongest point. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 18:57, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Name added. Youtube videos: sure, will do. And reading articles: definitely will do. Learning: happens all the time and therefore I also give back by editing :-) Let me explore your user page more. ----Erkan Yilmaz 19:13, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for joining the WikiProject Systems. I am very glad you also took the opportunity to look at the WikiProject pages, allthough you just might have noticed I don't always agree. Good luck. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 21:01, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- No worries, diversity in opinion is good. As you have noticed: I tend to communicate in the edit summaries - don't have to do additional clicks for the talk pages. Though the risk is: that others may not see it :-( ----Erkan Yilmaz 21:03, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Communicating in the edit summaries is a good thing. All experienced editors will notice. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 22:52, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Systems Assessment
[edit]Hi, Erkan Yilmaz,
Thanks for starting assessing systems articles as well. I guess I didn't explain I replaced the older {{WikiProject Systems}} template by the new {{Sys rating}} template. Eventualy all {{WikiProject Systems}} template have to be replaced, but I have not yet came to replace them all. Next time please use the {{Sys rating}} template. Thanks again for all your efforts. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 23:09, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
P.S. I just checkes the {{WikiProject Systems}} is still present in about 650 talk pages. And the {{Sys rating}} template is present in about 1700 articles.
- Goedemorgen Marcel, thank you for the update. I will use the new template from now on.
- How about adding a request for replacing the templates at: Wikipedia:Bot requests ? ----Erkan Yilmaz 05:01, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion. The bot won't do the whole job, but I guess it is worth a try. I guess the bot only needs to change the term "WikiProject Systems" into "Sys rating" in all pages that link to "Template:WikiProject Systems", see here. A next step should be to add the fields, but this can be of latter concern. Could you arrange this request? -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 12:32, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- P.S. There is no real rush, but something went terribly wrong with the Wikipedia 0.7 release on DVD, where only the articles with the old {{WikiProject Systems}} where selected, see here. This is something we should avoid next time.
- Hello Marcel, ok I will write a request soon. Before that: how about another improvement ? The "Sys rating" atm says:
- "Please also add comments to suggest improvements to the article." (example)
- and if the user clicks then there is a new subpage "Comments" created. The problem here would be, that no one probably has this new subpage on her watch list and the feedback probably is not answered (soon).
- About "adding fields": I will try to act about this while reading.
- DVD: oh :-( There are always errors. Let's see what we can do about that for the next release. ----Erkan Yilmaz 17:11, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ok thanks Erkan for helping with the bot. About adding comments: I think any new comment should be added to the talkpage, and not on a new subpage. I just tried to just remove that command, but that didn't work. In such a case in the past, I have asked User:Geometry guy for help. He originally wrote the first template with fields for the WikiProject Mathematics. I sort of copied all his efforts. If you have no solution, maybe you can ask him!?
- About adding fields: If you have any questions about adding fields, just ask. For some more information about those fields, see here and here
- And about the DVD: For the next DVD I guess we should contact the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team, see also here. It is a shame I didn't participate in the Wikipedia 0.7 release. I think some critical systems articles were missing there... but to be true I never checked. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 18:27, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Marcel, I tried a little with the template and have a preliminary solution. Would appreciate if you also try it please. Example: User:Erkan Yilmaz/Sandbox7. I just fixed that (I hope). Other problems I see for now is: what happens with already existing /Comments subpages or other parts of the code which need to be initialized. Well, yeah ... ----Erkan Yilmaz 19:26, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- P.S. There is no real rush, but something went terribly wrong with the Wikipedia 0.7 release on DVD, where only the articles with the old {{WikiProject Systems}} where selected, see here. This is something we should avoid next time.
- That template seems to work. I would say: Just implement it. If it gives any trouble we can always fix it, or refert the whole thing. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 19:37, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Edit done. I guess we can also improve it more as in below commentary mentioned. Another thing for my todo-list. ----Erkan Yilmaz 20:03, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Did you know
[edit]Hi Erkan, you have been doing a lot of reading and correcting lately. Would you be interested in using this experience in creating and publishing some new Portal:Systems science/Did you know facts. This is one of those things I cann't seem to manage on my own and would appreciate any help you can give. A regular update op the "Did you know" facts in the systems portal could we an extra service to the portal audience.
I tied to extract new " did you know" facts from the main page, see here, but never finished the job. This is one way to proceed, an other is to write did you knows ourselve. What do you think? -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 19:16, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I like the idea. It would give me another perspective while reading. Let's see what I can come up with :-) ----Erkan Yilmaz 19:27, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Template
[edit]Hi, I noticed your work on User:Erkan Yilmaz/Sandbox2. You might like to have a look at {{WPBM}} for an easy way to adjust project banners. I'd be happy to help if you have any questions. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:51, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks very much Martin - will surely have a look. As you wrote I edited the template already [1]. Let's see what side effects I caused with that :-( ----Erkan Yilmaz 19:57, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
- As you have seen I played a little with it: User:Erkan Yilmaz/Sandbox2 substituting
- The older Template:WikiProject Systems also uses Template:WPBannerMeta - I think I will coordinate with others in the Systems wikiproject what would be appropriate steps.
- Thanks again Martin. So, now I also want to read some other things - and eat :-) ----Erkan Yilmaz 20:53, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
Could you please check the Architectural drawing article. This will be most helpfull. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 15:20, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Sure. Though I am not an expert in that matter, I will have a look. Let's see what I can learn from it, ----Erkan Yilmaz 15:36, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. The article is under heay attack, see the talkpage: "The standard of English in particular is simple unacceptabe". Here is something you could take a look at. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 15:39, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Marcel, I made some changes regarding language. As I see there is also comment on WikiProject Architecture, so I guess some more eyes will have a look. ----Erkan Yilmaz 17:45, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

- P.S. Could you give a short comment on the edits you made on the Talk:Architectural drawing discussion, so other possible editors can read what has happened there. In case they don't check the arcticles history.
- Done :-) BTW: you can post me also in the future for other articles. ----Erkan Yilmaz 18:15, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ok Erkan thanks, I will: Could you check Shiu-Kay Kan article for me on language? I know this article is far outsite our regular scope here. This London based designer of lights helped me in the 1990s make my spiderlight a world wide success, by adding it to his collection. I was just for fun to capture his activities. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 18:46, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Erkan, there are two proposals concerning the Software development methodology article:
- To change the term methodology into method, see here
- To merge the article ito the Software development process article.
You could you comment on both items. Thank you. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 11:09, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
- Sure, will have a look later. Have to answer someone on another wiki project. ----Erkan Yilmaz 16:27, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
If you don't mind I will suggest some more articles, I like you to check:
And with your approval I will continu to make those suggestions. Thanks you. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 14:45, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

- Thanks and thanks. Could you take a look at the Scientific visualization and Michael Friendly article as well. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 23:23, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi Erkan, could you express your opinion about the ongoing issues at the Quality control and genetic algorithms article. Thanks you. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 10:19, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I have some thoughts, but will keep them inside my head for now, reason: COI. Anyways, as I see the user is just interested in things around that page. Perhaps it is a good idea to improve it in a subpage or on Wikiversity (he also should be told, that the article can stay on other wikis - in case he feels like it is about defend the article or so) or as proposed: merge it.
- Hope the user stays at Wikipedia.
- I will look now at your above mentioned pages and also at our GA articles (Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Systems#GA Sweeps invitation). ----Erkan Yilmaz 17:07, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ok thanks. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 17:27, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi, could you translate the German article Extreme testing here. I have just starting improving the Scott W. Ambler article and the coverage of his work here, and that ET article seems like a interesting supplement here. Thank you. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 08:21, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Marcel, as you know, atm I am busy with the presentation about Ludwig von Bertalanffy's "Robots, Men and Minds" (1967) and with related topics.
- Nevertheless I will add it on my todo list and try to find some time - it sure won't hurt to also add a request here: Talk:Software testing. ----Erkan Yilmaz 08:40, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- There is no rush. I just thought it might interest you. An other interesting challange, what might interest you, is improving the Plato's Timaeus (dialogue) article with the text already present in the featured German Timaios article. This is in the line of that siminar..!? A Belgium editor recently translated the English article to the Dutch Wikipedia, and when I considered he would use the German article, he told me his German wasn't that good. Another thing for your todo-list...? -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 08:59, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Marcel,
- Actually any topic would be in line with the seminar, since its title is: "What are systems ?" - with the program:
- Plato - Philebus
- Johann Heinrich Lambert - de:Systematologie
- Gottfried Leibniz - Monadology - characteristica universalis
- Thomas Hobbes - Leviathan (book)
- Immanuel Kant - de:Kritik der reinen Vernunft#Architektonik der reinen Vernunft - de:Transzendentale Methodenlehre
- Ludwig von Bertalanffy - Robots, Men and Minds
- Humberto Maturana / Francisco Varela - Constructivist epistemology
- Manfred Eigen - Das Spiel
- de:Achim Stephan - Emergenz: Von der Unvorhersagbarkeit zur Selbstorganisation.
- Niklas Luhmann - social systems
- Anyways, please still continue to make notes about ideas you have (I will put Timaios also on my todo list). We will get the things done in the future for sure. ----Erkan Yilmaz 09:21, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Could you take a look at the short article Medical cybernetics just flagged for clean up. The language is supposed to be terrible...!? Thanks.
-- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 00:37, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- I see also a permission problem. Emailed also the user (also for the German page). If permission is not available, there needs to be done more than language fixes. Let's wait what the user says. ----Erkan Yilmaz 05:15, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
- I checked and it seems to me the text is allready sufficiently released twice. I really don't understand the that clean up tag. Could you just look at those ten sentences? -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 11:25, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Lay out of commands on the talk page
[edit]I guess you start experimenting with editing my comments as well, see here. One kind request to leave the lay out of my comments as it is. I know perfectly well what I am doing and how it shows.
I have a simple scheme I am following. In that particular discussion I was the forth person to enter the discussion. So I start my comment with the ::: command. I have done it allready twice, and you moved the third. I just like it simple, and don't like to move the discussion to far to the right sight of the page. Thank you. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 21:30, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- Marcel, your indenting was unusual for me. As well as your editing of my comment. Therefore it is good that you explained the idea behind your indenting method, in the future I will not change your aligning on talk pages. ----Erkan Yilmaz 22:01, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- I guess I wouldn't have opposed, if we were ending a discussion. If a discussion goes on and on (now I know you like examples, so for example here on the Zachman Framework talkpage) I like to use the full page. But here on this discussion, I don't expect this discussion to last (maybe I am wrong here), so I comment on a second place. Two more things:
- I guess you were surprised, I edited you comment on that talk page. This is a thing I often do, if I have a good reason. For example, I often edit ancient discussion on a talk page, which hardly have any lay out. Just for clean up. I once spend hour (I guess it was here somewhere) reorganizing the older discussion on the systems theory talk page. Because it was inpossible to determine, who was talking. I guess then I developed that method putting every contributor on one place.
- Now I removed your reference to our email discussion, because in my opinion it suggested we continued our discussion from email back to the talk page. This is something I didn't intend by then, and I am not indending to do at all. I like to keep things separate, and don't care even have the same discussion twice. But I try not to let them interfer. I guess the reason is, that here on Wikipedia, you have to be prepared to justify every move you make. So that is why I like to keep all things archived in one place. I realize now that mentioning those emails for you might have been a reminder. And then I can understand you want it back. That is ok with me. Next time I will just comment on the talkpage instead, to remind myself.
- Ok, good luck. I appreciate now, you like to get to the bottum of things. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 22:42, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Marcel, about "I don't expect this discussion to last (maybe I am wrong here)": I am not sure if it is clear what we were talking about on the talk page, but I get the feeling now: it is a better approach to save my time if I invest some time and rewrite the page a little. Then it would be nice if you have a look and then in teamwork we come to a better version. What do you say ?
- I have sent now also an email to the copyright owner on the external page and will contact him by phone on the next working day, since it is a faster way if the copyright owner sends a mail to Wikipedia:OTRS. ----Erkan Yilmaz 07:04, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- Ok. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 11:29, 30 May 2009 (UTC) P.S. With this discussion, I meant this particular talk item about the lay out
- He was not there, but I asked the the secretary of the department to inform him to look at his mails. Let's see how he reacts. ----Erkan Yilmaz 16:58, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:56, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
