Hello, Edwardx. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Arthur Cogswell, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Onel5969 TT me 18:51, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of The Edgar Wallace
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on The Edgar Wallace requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. 2602:306:3357:BA0:1CF7:A9B8:D082:F351 (talk) 22:21, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

St Matthew's Church, Fulham
Hello Edwardx
I've filled in a gap with Draft:St Matthew's Church, Fulham and wondered if you might be able to help. I used to be part of this church more than 25 years ago and still have some contacts, who I'm pursuing to get the other gaps filled in for this page, but I now live far away, and don't know anyone who could take some good photos for commons or wikipedia use. Don't suppose you live close enough to take a few decent pictures of St Matthews for me? Very long shot I realise. Many thanks Stevet-l (talk) 15:25, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you, Stevet-l, all gap filling is most welcome. All Saints is my local church, but I've just found two photos of St Matthew's that I took last year, created a Commons category and uploaded them. Not great, but a lot better than nothing. Will add it to my list of photos to take. Edwardx (talk) 15:39, 25 November 2016 (UTC)
Not such a long shot after all, then - many thanks Edwardx. I've incorporated your pictures in my putative St Matthews infobox and will keep an eye out for any others you might get round to. Stevet-l (talk) 21:54, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- Stevet-l, it was a pleasant surprise. Will let you know when I have some better photos. Edwardx (talk) 19:26, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

The Colvins
Hi Edward. Thanks for creating Category:Colvin family. I've been interested in them for years, and created Colvin family in 2011. Have you seen its talk page? I've collated a lot of rough notes there, to inspire anyone who chooses to follow up. At the time this family was beginning its eminence, spellings still fluctuated between Colville and Colvin, so it's tricky. But anyway, thanks for your interest. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 14:22, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks, Carbon Caryatid. I only stumbled across the Colvins by chance, when starting Hal Moggridge. That indented list of descendants is a helpful way of showing connections, and there is something similar at Cargill family. I've been starting quite a few of these family categories in recent times, and they are a useful tool to see how things connects. Most recently, Category:Salmon family and Category:Gluckstein family, both of which came out of starting Joseph Lyons (caterer). It's amazing how we can still find very notable people who don't yet have articles. Edwardx (talk) 14:45, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, Brenda Colvin is one of mine, too; I never really bothered to catalogue my creations, simply doing whatever was of interest at the time. With families, though, how does one know where to stop? The women almost always changed their names on marriage, so do nieces and nephews and grandchildren not of that surname count as part of the family? (By the way, I often link to Name_change#Historical_usage, which might be of use in your family editing.) I love drawing these links. The Salmon family immediately has me thinking of Nigella Lawson and, less directly Tate sugar, Mr Tate, Tate original, Tate Modern, and the other modern art collector, aka Mr Nigella. It all ties together. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 16:12, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Janet Turner
The article Janet Turner has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Notability issues
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Jennica✿ / talk 00:54, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Jennica: "Notability issues" is a rather vague reason for a PROD. What about WP:BEFORE? As well as the Guardian obit cited, a quick search for "Janet Turner lighting" shows up an AJ obit, and others. By way of penance, how about expanding the article instead! Edwardx (talk) 01:16, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- Well I sure didn't propose it to get into an argument or make anybody mad. I've seen the notability reason on several PRODs. I don't really think of myself as a good expander of articles but prefer to deal with formatting issues/gnomish fixes. Sorry!--Jennica✿ / talk 01:34, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Jennica: I'm not mad. Correction, I'm not mad at you. The best way to get better at expanding articles is by expanding them. I started out as a gnome, but have found content creation much more rewarding. Alternatively, I do leave plenty of bare URLs lying around to give you gnomes something to do. Have a good Christmas. Edwardx (talk) 01:48, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

- Ok, question. How can this be considered notable? The Rolling Stones in Mono - it is just a rehash of their albums. --Jennica✿ / talk 04:12, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
- Musical recordings is not an area that I work in, but based on the number of reviews, it looks like it meets criterion 1 of WP:NALBUM. No Swan So Fine has done plenty of jazz album articles, so perhaps they would know. Edwardx (talk) 15:08, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Westlake Financial Services
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Westlake Financial Services, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
Comments at DYK
Drive-by comments at DYK like this aren't constructive. I'm interested in getting that hook promoted. (It was already reviewed and approved.) The hook is within length requirements, so it doesn't need to be trimmed. While you may believe it improves the hook your comment will only distract from the process. Please re-consider your editing in this regard. Chris Troutman (talk) 03:59, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
- Please accept my apologies for any upset. My intent is always to improve hooks, and Wikipedia more generally. Hooks can be altered at any point in the process, even when they are live on the main page. I don't see how my comment can reasonably be said to "distract from the process". Surely if we have concerns with hooks it is best to raise them at the earliest opportunity; and just because the hook was deemed acceptable, it doesn't mean it was optimal. Wikipedia works best when we collaborate! Edwardx (talk) 02:15, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
- While I agree about collaboration, I have found that DYK runs fastest when the comments end with the green check mark. Any comments that don't end with a green check mark not only delay the hook being added to the queue, they scare off other editors looking for a QPQ. I get rankled with this behavior because drive-by editors, meaning well, end up making a larger problem. I wrote the hook as I did because Shoop retired decades later. By removing that portion of the sentence you create confusion. I don't see optimization in this case. If your concerns were about accuracy or length I would agree. Your suggestion merely chops off a few words in the belief that your solution was
"optimal"
. You can ask other editors more-experienced than I at DYK, but I really don't see any value added in what you're doing. Chris Troutman (talk) 03:17, 4 January 2017 (UTC)- I think that I have been polite and reasonable, but I take issue with the repeated imputation that I'm some sort of "drive-by editor". As a very experienced editor, please avoid ad hominem comments and WP:OWNERSHIP, and focus on the validity or otherwise of the argument. There is rarely any rush to get a DYK hook through, and the subject of this hook has been dead nearly 50 years. You state that, "If your concerns were about accuracy or length I would agree". If you look again at my comment, I stated that a five word phrase "could easily be trimmed". Therefore we are in agreement. Edwardx (talk) 11:30, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
- Please don't misunderstand, you have been polite. Rather than make a larger issue of this, I'll just let it drop. Chris Troutman (talk) 02:37, 9 January 2017 (UTC)

Edwardx, it's been over two weeks since this was reviewed, a notice about concerns has been posted to this page and subsequently archived, and there is still no response on the nomination page. If you're still interested in pursuing this, please respond right away. If not, and this notice is also archived, the nomination may also be archived, which would be a shame. Thank you in advance for your attention. BlueMoonset (talk) 19:09, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Andrey Goncharenko
Hello Edwardx, this source published by The Guardian described Andrey Goncharenko as the chief executive of a subsidiary of Gazprom and I think this source belongs to a different person so can you please check. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 18:13, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you GSS-1987. As far as I can determine, there is only one Andrey Goncharenko of any significance, and he holds or has held both jobs. I'll expand his article a bit more now, and maybe it will become clearer! Edwardx (talk) 15:58, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
- Actually I asked you as per the ticket I saw on OTRS which seems enough to verify that the subject of your article never worked at Sberbank CIB. I appreciate if you research a bit. GSS (talk|c|em) 16:14, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
- I'm increasingly sceptical about the Sberbank connection, but have left it in (suitably caveated) for now. Do you have a link to the OTRS discussion? Edwardx (talk) 23:57, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
- Please see Ticket:2017020210007114. Thank you – GSS (talk|c|em) 08:42, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'm not an OTRS member, so I can't access that. However, I'm still working on Goncharenko, especially as I've now done a DYK nomination based on the article. Edwardx (talk) 10:50, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
