Disruptive editing defenses

[edit]

Edson Makatar, I wanted to write to you directly to let you know that once a clear consensus has formed on an article, Wikipedia is reasonably robust in maintaining that consensus on an article. Contributions from IP editors and new editors get a fair bit of attention. Obviously problematic edits tend to get reverted very quickly. For more subtle problems, it does help if some editors are keeping an eye on the article. I think the Indira Raman article will have a good number of people watchlisting it, if kept. (Indeed, if it is not kept, then if another article is created in the same place then it is likely it will quickly be taken back to a deletion discussion.)

Are you connected with Raman in some way? I notice that you are a new editor, and that all your edits so far have to do with her article. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 11:14, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have no connection to Raman. Thank you for your opinions, but what perhaps caues Raman distress is that isn't exactly hard to find concrete examples that show these opinions are not grounded in the reality of how Wikipedia typically looks after the biographies of these kinds of relatively low profile individuals. Perhaps a proper survey is in order, to conclusively determine how many of these Academy members would be satisfied that their biographies are in good hands? If you have concrete examples, then please share them at WP:BLPN. Russ Woodroofe (talk) 14:30, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's technical logs indicate that this user account has been or may be used abusively. It has been blocked indefinitely from editing to prevent abuse.

Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.

Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.
