Orphaned non-free media (File:Ponko Chicken Foodease Logo.png)
Thanks for uploading File:Ponko Chicken Foodease Logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:12, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Re:Leövey Klára Secondary Grammar School
While you did edit it do make it less of a copyvio, the article still contained a good bulk of the exact same sentences (a lot fo the original vocabulary and sentence structure was still present) from the source website. I mean stuff like "We are a school of "the second chance" too, because at the department of adult education..." and "In our educational work environmental education..." was in still in the article and even if it wasn't a copyvio of another site it was still written in the style of an advertisement (promotion for the school as it was not written in with a NPOV) and so it could have still been speedy deleted per WP:CSD#G11. Changing a few words here and there doesn't remove the copyvio as someone, who tagged it for deletion, was able to find the site which the source content was from evenFor example if you look at the first copy/pasted sentence "The predecessor of the school, Ranolder Institute was founded by Ranolder János, the bishop of Veszprém at the time, in order to give Ferencváros, which was mainly inhabited by German natives in those days, an institute to educate women in Hungarian." could have been changed to "The school was founded by Randolder János, the bishop of Veszprém, who also founded the Ranolder Institute. The school was set up to educate women in Hungarian" to make it seem less of a direct copyvio although the sample re-write could have been changed a lot further. And as the Template:Db-copyvio-notice states You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. hence why I deleted it as the article was essentially copy/pasted sentences.
Obviously I can't restore it in its previous form but I could restore it as a non-copyio stub. Let me know if you wish to go ahead with it. Cheers. AngelOfSadness talk 17:48, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Three mall articles
Hi. These seem to me non-notable and to fail WP:NOTDIRECTORY; I asked TenPoundHammer, who I know is interested in malls, if he thought the first was saveable, and he replied "Ugh, don't all the mall articles suck (except the three that are GA)? Seriously, though, I found a fair whack of sources... You can also ask User:Eastmain, who is excellent at cleaning up mall articles."
There are sources, but they all seem to be advertisement or listing-type ones - a shop opened or closed or some event took place, nothing substantial about the mall to suggest it was interesting or notable or any different from a thousand others. I'm not asking you to do anything urgent about them, only for an opinion whether you think they are saveable; if so, I will leave them alone, otherwise I will PROD or AfD. (PS - I see the last has already been PRODded by someone else). Regards, JohnCD (talk) 16:28, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi, although this article does has a link to a magazine I proposed deletion because no notability has been asserted in the article. It was created by a director of the company and IMO is clearly spam. A speedy delete was requested but an editor said that notability was asserted through a google news search. I did this too but could not find any stories about the company and from that concluded that it is not notable. Smartse (talk) 22:14, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
ECC logo
Hey there
Thank you for your fixup on the ECC logo.
I got permission (in fact was sent it) from one of the company directors at this company. PLEASE help I get permission then images get deleted. I *think* it's the same image cos I probably have it in better quality? It's just so hard when you start out and I am getting fed up with bots deleting images when I understand all the rules etc and understand copyright, all that, but fall foul of some simple idiocy nobody tells you.
And asking at the copyright rules site or whatever might as well ask the cat, nobody replies. It's one of the the bad things about Wikipedia kinda the assumption everyone already knows. Well I have over 5000 edits but when you do something new you don't know and the help is just well not very helpful.
Best wishes SimonTrew (talk) 19:14, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Re:Aird & Berlis LLP
May I ask why you offered notability as a reason for declining a speedy deletion nomination that had nothing to do with notability? The firm is notable, I agree, and should have an article. However, I posted a CSD G11 nomination, which concerned the fact that the article is a blatant advertisement. 81.157.178.184 (talk) 18:44, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- In my view, Aird & Berlis LLP is no longer an advertisement, if it ever was. Please feel free to add any of the references that can be found at http://news.google.ca/archivesearch?um=1&ned=ca&hl=en&q=%22Aird+%26+Berlis%22&cf=all -- Eastmain (talk) 19:03, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response, and for removing some advertising text from the article. I still think the article is a blatant advertisement; the Recognition section clearly is written as an argument that the firm is great because of all the people and organizations who have recognized it as commendable (not doubting they were recognized as such, but you must admit the tone in that section is clearly trumping up the firm). Plus, the "Community Service and Sponsorships" clearly is trying to demonstrate the ethical and light side of some of its members, (on another note, I don't really see how such a section, regardless of what it says, is really notable and encyclopedic to the article as a whole). Also, it doesn't help that a law blog argued this article is an example of how a firm can very positively portray itself. 81.157.178.184 (talk) 19:12, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
- In case you've already read the last post, I have corrected the law blog link. Sorry about the error. 81.157.178.184 (talk) 19:15, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

The reference (TCI) didn't change my mind
While interesting, it is a single primary source, actually confirms how little there is written about the subject, and doesn't justify the creation of a separate article. If anything, it supports my argument that there may be enough for a section in TCI, as opposed to a stand-alone article. However, I don't feel strongly enough to contest the decision. Thanks for posting.--SPhilbrickT 23:17, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
I was surprised that you rejected speedy deletion of this article. I have work experience in the radio navigation field and must tell you that the article is a little scrap of unsourced nonsense. Just the first sentence (there are only 3) should persuade you of that:
- Invented by Lord Roger Burrman in 1922, radio navigational aids have long since evolved from the early models which were primitive devices crudely fashioned together with copper wires.
There is no such person, no such invention and it looks like a vandal's joke. Please help delete it. Cuddlyable3 (talk) 23:43, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Edith Flagg
Can you please help me, ConcernedVancouverite is not looking at all the articles that referane Edith Flagg. There are hundreds of articles i have which prove that she brought Polyester to the US and that she was a major philanthropist. She is also inferring that the articles Ben Platt Herman Platt and PLatt Music Corporation should be thrown out. Platt was a publicly traded company whose ceo came from Marshall Field. Ben PLatt was a huge philanthropist in Los Angeles. I have all the newspaper articles in front of me, is there a way i could email them to you so we can get the articles back up. Re: Organiz/sation stubs
Hi E- saw your edit summary on the stub type lists. Generally speaking -s- is used in the Commonwealth and -z- in the US's sphere (including Canada and the Caribbean). Normally on WP, European and African countries that don't use English as their main language get UK spellings, but I'm not sure what the story is with Asia, though I suspect that for Japan/Korea and possibly China it's US spellings, and UK spelling for the rest. If that's the case, then all of them are right except for Pakistan, which should have an -s- not a -z-. I'm taking that one to SFD. Grutness...wha? 23:00, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- Correct - Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines consistently use US English spellings, whilst the rest of South and South East Asia use UK English spellings. I am not honestly sure about China, it is probably safe to assume US (not only is it probably correct, but it keeps East Asia consistent given the above). Orderinchaos 01:35, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Just letting you know that the correct category is either Category:Universities in Malaysia or Category:Colleges in Malaysia - some time ago it was found that consensus for the hybrid "Universities and colleges" category no longer exists as they are separate types of institutions. Speedy deletion nomination of Acco Festival of Alternative Israeli Theatre
Thanks so much for adding references to the page and removing the "Speedy Delete" template. Since creating the article (translated from the Hebrew) last spring, I've been at a loss for second-party references (i.e. not publications by the Festival itself). I can't understand how an annual event with dozens of troupes including many each year from abroad, hundreds of artists, and tens-to-hundreds of thousands (!) in attendance, can be non-notable in the English Wikipedia, espcially considering how many of its events and publications (and its website) are in English as a lingua franca. It seems to have been redeleted and userfied so the editor who was working on it has a chance to get it up to scratch before resubmitting it via WP:DRV. I agree the new version is better than the old, but still borderline IMO. EyeSerenetalk 07:26, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Re:File:TannadicePark-1923.jpg
Hi Eastmain. That's definitely true. I deleted the file on the basis that the photographer was deceased and that the image was in the public domain - the file bore the license tag of a copyrighted historical image and would be in violation of CSD criterion F7. Either way, the source of the file hasn't been confirmed so the file would be deleted anyways. If new information regarding the copyright status surfaces, confirming the image as a non-free image or a free image, please let me know and I will make the appropriate adjustments. FUR for File:Alltel got that right.jpg
While I appreciate your effort in adding a FUR, the file isn't used in an article, nor was it intended to be. There's already a pre-2006 logo used in Alltel so it's not needed for there, this was uploaded solely for use in a userbox,[1] which is an inappropriate use. That's why I nominated it for CSD. --AussieLegend (talk) 12:35, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Harold von Kursk Wik page deletion nomination
Dear Eastmain, This is Harold von Kursk writing. My Wikipedia entry (which was posted by a person unknown to me earlier this year) has been the subject of several attacks by an ex-girlfriend who has posted horrible, sick, and clearly libelous entries onto my Wikipedia page. I have had these entries deleted whenever a friend has run across them and now I am forced to check my Wik page daily to make sure my psycho ex has not vandalised the page again. The ORIGINAL information posted sometime in March I believe was basically correct although I would have preferred that some of the info was not listed. I am not a computer expert by any means and I do not know how or even whether I, or my law firm, can delete my page. So having seen some comments by you and another Wik administrator I am hoping that someone will read this post and please take my page down until such a time as a cease and desist order has been sent to the offending party. It is truly sad that a beautiful idea like Wikipedia can be abused by sick people in this way. But assuming you are one of the good guys out there, I hope you can assist me in having my page deleted immediately. Best regards, Harold von KurskBigYalie (talk) 05:25, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Dear Eastmain, I have noted your comment that vandalism is not necessarily a valid reason to delete a page. As the victim of such vandalism, however, I would like to disagree with this statement or policy. I do not believe that WIKIPEDIA has the resources to patrol a person's page on a daily basis, especially since I am not particularly famous or a person of note as some people have stated. But I think this exposes a clear danger in the WIKIPEDIA process since anyone is able to make edits or addtions to a biopage and that can naturally invite abuse. Whether I am a person of note or not, abuse is abuse and obviously I do not wish my friends and colleagues to read the deranged rantings of a woman I once lived with twenty years ago and whom I have not seen in over five years! Surely my rights have been violated here and since there has been clear vandalism, I should have the right to demand that my bio page be deleted on that basis since I seem not to be a person of note. I may have lost a client this summer because of a deranged posting that was only spotted one month after the fact. So what can a reasonable man do in this case? The abuse that I have suffered because of this woman (and I have very strong reason to believe that it was my ex-girlfriend who posted these sick comments since she called me the same day as the most recent posting!) like a case of a celebrity being stalked or having paparazzi hide in trees one mile away with a giant telephoto lens. So I hope that the Wikipedia administrators are able to accede to my request or otherwise protect my page (but not by simply blocked a user ID since we all know that is easily bypassed by using a different computer!!!) from further vandalism. But simply patrolling my page from time to time is not a very effective solution and I no longer wish to live in fear that a sick individual can keep on making false and defamatory remarks at any time on my Wik page. Best regards, Harold von KurskBigYalie (talk) 06:52, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (File:Taos Tigers Logo Trimmed From Banner.png)
Thanks for uploading File:Taos Tigers Logo Trimmed From Banner.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. ZooFari 03:40, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
Non-free logos (et. al)
If you look at my edit history, you'll see "+license" - that means that I'm adding the correct license template to the image (overall, not just logos) whenever I can confirm the legitimacy of the image. The central problem with the ones that I'm tagging is that they do not have a source (or, if they do, it's dead or doesn't link back to the home organization), so it's impossible to tell if they're the legit logo or something that the user just created (i.e. user-created art) that's then posting on the transcluded article as the legit logo for the group. So, I'm tagging these for the uploader (or other interested parties) to prove that this is the legit logo (i.e. provide a legit link to the source & change the license) so that we're not presenting user-created stuff as the presumed "official" logo for the company /organization /etc. Skier Dude (talk) 04:38, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
- P.s. It's also a question of giving tacit legitimacy to a possibly user-created image by mis-tagging something as a "logo" (or other template) when it's just user-created art. I see the parallel to user-created/fan art for albums/singles that pop up regularly - we don't want to present a fake album cover as the real one - same thing with any other type of image that's presenting to be the legitimate copy of what the person/organization/etc. is actually using. Skier Dude (talk) 04:41, 19 November 2009 (UTC)
- Example - the next in the batch I was working on... look at File:EBBFlogo.jpg - following the link through to the website shows that this is not the legit logo (note the colour differences) - minor, yes, but why put up the user-created logo when the legit one is possible to get if s/he wanted to do so. In addition, these could possibly be tagged as F3 (Media file with improper license), but I'm giving the opportunity for the uploader to fix it, rather than delete it outright! Skier Dude (talk) 05:01, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Companies traded on the NYSE
Thanks for the guidance. One of the reasons for the AfD tags is that a large number of the articles I tagged seemed to be written by PR departments, or by people who are used to writing advertising copy. Some of the articles I tagged were almost untouched by normal Wikipedia editors, and were written almost entireley by throw-away accounts, or accounts that logged in once or twice several years ago primarily to focus on writing those articles. When the Business Wikipedians seemed to have taken an article under their wing and removed the Ad Copy, I assumed good faith.
Acuity Brands was edited quite a bit by user:Acuitybrands, for example.
Besides, my approach got what the articles needed: Results. In two of three cases, you responded and added the needed references, justifying those articles existence. In one, the article was deleted because the Admin that reviewed it found unambiguous copyright infringement. (Specifically: the entire article was copied from page 2 of: http://www.broadridge-ir.com/fin/10k/brk08.pdf )
I reviewed about 1/27th of all the NYSE list articles. I found a lot of weak stubs that I left alone. I found a few that looked like they'd been either created or edited heavily for advertising purposes, and which made no claim to necessary notoriety. On only three of the articles that I reviewed did I AfD, and I reviewed about 250.
Because you're right. Generally, companies listed on the NYSE will be notable enough, especially if the references are looked for, and because I assume good faith on the part of the people writing these articles. I only AfD'd when I saw something suspicious. I'm glad you added the needed references to those articles, too. But I don't like that Wikipedia gets used for advertising, and I don't like that PR companies come through and edit or create these pages. If there are balanced, referenced, wikified articles about companies on the NYSE, then that's a great thing. If all that exists is some stub filled with advertising copy, then something needs to be done.
Still, I salute your work in saving articles that might otherwise be deleted. Thanks for what you do. --Ollie Garkey (talk) 12:53, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
