Inapprorpriate early non-admin closure of AfD
Hi, you recently closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2010 ANZAC Test more than two days early invoking WP:SNOW. Firstly, I do not believe SNOW should be invoked for non-admin closures, and you should not be closing discussions early in any case. Secondly, it is perfectly clear from the discussion that there is disagreement and no-one has rebutted my comments making a snow close an invalid outcome. I have listed it at DRV. Regards, wjematherbigissue 10:01, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Not entirely agreeing with Wjemather's full post, but a rule of thumb for snow closures is eight or more keep !votes, and as such I have reopened the debate. Please don't take this negatively, just as a note that the result was not obvious enough to justify a snow closure. Stifle (talk) 10:59, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- I am always willing to have any of my NAC closures reopened for further discussion. I will always invoke my best judgement, and I don't believe that it was an inappropriate closure - in any sense, what's done is done. Dusti*poke* 15:37, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Looie496 recall
I think this is a little premature—if we recalled admins for making one or two routine actions with poor judgment, we would have not any admins. Could you specify a recurring pattern that requires recall, a purely disruptive action, or some disruption that would stop if the sysop flag were removed? Otherwise, will you consider withdrawing the request for recall? /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 22:34, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
- I thought this through before I called for a desysop because it's a serious move and a serious measure. If you read the recall page, Louie stated a clear disregard for the community who entrusted him with the bits. There is a clear consensus that this is wrong, and as such there is support for a desysop. I will not be withdrawing this request. Dusti*poke* 00:45, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
- Mmk. I think I see where you're coming from, and I'm thinking about this. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 02:45, 20 January 2011 (UTC)
- I wouldn't mind it so much if he said "I misread" or had some form of an excuse, but he states pretty clearly that he disregarded the consensus and then he refused to comment. So it was an "unblock and hide" action. When you do something as a sysop, you are subject to community scrutinty and you should be willing to explain your actions and be ready to admit you made a mistake and revert your sysop action, but he hasn't and refuses to. Unblock Request
Dusti (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I've been hit by an autoblock by having a proxy on to watch netflix online. I'm requesting IPBE and an unblock, of course. I'll be in Puerto Rico until March, if that helps any. The IP that's autoblocked me is 174.133.0.0/16. Dusti*poke* 01:21, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Accept reason:
IP block exempt
I have granted your account an exemption from IP blocking. This will allow you to edit through full blocks affecting your IP address when you are logged in.
Please read the page Wikipedia:IP block exemption carefully, especially the section on IP block exemption conditions.
Note in particular that you are not permitted to use this newly-granted right to edit Wikipedia via anonymous proxies, or disruptively. If you do, or there is a serious concern of abuse, then the right may be removed by any administrator.
Appropriate usage and compliance with the policy may be checked periodically, due to the nature of block exemption, and block exemption will be removed when no longer needed (for example, when the block it is related to expires).
I hope this will enhance your editing, and allow you to edit successfully and without disruption. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:41, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

- Risker informs me that she has spoken to you in IRC and suggested you try using one browser to do whatever you're doing that needs the proxy and another browser for WP, editing via a regular IP. Could you try it and see if it works? While I don't think you're likely to abuse IPBE, if there's such a simple solution, it might be better. Mentor
Hey Dusti,
My name is Emily Fuerst, I am a senior at James Madison University. My Technical Editing class is fortunate to take part in this great project with Wikipedia. I look forward to learning more about this website, and all of the interesting possibilities it has to offer. After briefly looking throughout the mentors, I noticed that you live in Puerto Rico. I think traveling is extremely important, and I hope that I can travel more this summer. Anyways, I hope that you can become my mentor throughout this semester. Please let me know if that is a possibility, I look forward to your response.

Adoption offer
Hello. A while ago i believe you offered me adoption. Would you still be interested, i have not heard anything back from you ,so i was wondering Thanks Birdstothewind (talk) 13:18, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
No, a disambiguation page should usually have no incoming links, so you don't need to tag it as {{orphan}}. It is not a {{stub}}, it's a disambiguation page. The most helpful thing you could do is to add {{dab}}. It needed some more cleanup per WP:MOSDAB, which I'm about to do. PamD (talk) 11:09, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- Same applies to José Campos (disambiguation). PamD (talk) 11:32, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
This article had no content, so it would be more useful to nominate it for Speedy deletion under {{db-empty}} (WP:CSD A3), rather than waste time tagging it. PamD (talk) 11:55, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Hey, promotional usernames shouldn't be reported until they've actually edited, because we don't generally block just for having the name of a company/organisation. We wait for them to edit and then {{softerblock}} or {{spamusernameblock}} depending on the nature of the edits. If you could wait for them to edit in future, it would be appreciated. Speedy deletion converted to PROD: SpecialThanks
Hello Dusti, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I have converted the speedy deletion tag that you placed on SpecialThanks to a proposed deletion tag. The speedy deletion criteria are extremely narrow to protect the encyclopedia, and do not fit the page in question. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Dusti*poke* 01:44, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
I declined speedy deletion of this page because WP:CSD#R2 does not provide for the speedy deletion of redirects from the article namespace to the Wikipedia namespace. However, if you can find another speedy deletion criterion that applies, please feel free to re-tag the page. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 04:18, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Namramuni Gurudev
You "declined" the BLP-prod on Namramuni Gurudev on the grounds that it is about a group, not a person. However, I believe you misread the article. The article is about one person, the "guru" of a large group of Jains. As such, this does appear to be about a person, not a group. Also, I have removed the speedy deletion template, as I believe the claim that the person is a leader of millions of people is claim that the person is "important or significant", a lower threshold than "notable." Hi. The Punjab Juvenile Justice System Rules 2002 hereinafter referred to as the Rules have been made by the Government of the Punjab, Pakistan in 2002, for protection of juveniles in conflict with the law. The article does not include the original text or any copyrighted material of these Rules that may make this article a candidate for deletion. The article can be expanded by including (e.g.) material about the following:
- What change these Rules have brought about regarding treatment of juvenile delinquents as compared with the adults?
- What are the shortcomings of these Rules?
- What are the international instruments involved e.g. United Nations' conventions on the juvenile justice?
- Comparision of these Rules with similar statutes of other developing and developed countries?
- Have these Rules proved to be helpful to convince the law enforcers to go for Restorative Justice instead of Retributive Justice in case of Juveniles?
- Implementation issues?
- Etc., etc.,
For the above reasons, this article shall not be deleted and indeed expanded in scholarly manner.--182.177.145.81 (talk) 16:22, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

I'll try to figure out which classes they are in; most or all should have made an edit to the course page to list themselves, so it should be in the contribution history.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 14:25, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

Mentoring students: be sure to check in on them
This message is going out to all of the Online Ambassadors who are, or will be, serving as mentors this term.
Hi there! This is just a friendly reminder to check in on what your mentees are doing. If they've started making edits, take a look and help them out or do some example fixes for them, if they need it. And if they are doing good, let them know it!
If you aren't mentoring anyone yet, it looks like you will be soon; at least one large class is asking us to assign mentors for them, and students in a number of others haven't yet gotten to asking ambassadors to be their mentors, but may soon. --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:06, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Help?
Dusti,
I was just looking to gather an outside editors opinion on the page I've been working on: Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act . This is a stub listed under the US Public Policy Act and has been revised from the opening paragraph. I am a little unclear exactly how to cite my first source as listed in the document however, the source is cited as [1] within the document and a [1] within the source section.
Thanks for the help,

Marking articles students are working on
Howdy, Online Ambassador!
This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students (in particular, any ones you are mentoring, but others who don't have mentors as well) and do these things:
- Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
- If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
- Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.
And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.
Thanks! --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:11, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Your RFA
Just so you know, I closed your RFA per WP:SNOW. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 18:37, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, I forgot to mention why I closed it. From the looks of it, things were rapidly going downhill there and I felt it would just be best if the drama was ended and people got back to editing. Sorry for any disappointment and I hope you have a great day. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 18:48, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
WikiProject AFC needs your help... again
WikiProject AFC is holding a one month long Backlog Elimination Drive!
The goal of this drive is to eliminate the backlog of unreviewed articles. The drive is running from July 1st, 2013 – July 31st, 2013.
Awards will be given out for all reviewers participating in the drive in the form of barnstars at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 1000 articles, so start reviewing articles! Visit the drive's page and help out!
A new version of our AfC helper script is released! It includes many bug fixes, new improvements and features, code cleanup, and more page cleanups. If you want to see a full list of changes, go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Helper script/Development page. Please report bugs and feature requests there, too! Thanks.

3O
Thank you for participating as a volunteer at 3O. When you take a listing, please remove it from the list with an edit summary that says something like "Taking [[Talk:Dog]]; 4 left on list". If you are just going to ask for clarification, but are not necessarily going to give an opinion, leave it on the list but at the dispute page put something like "I'm from 3O, but I'm not taking this dispute at this point. Can the involved editors clarify X? After I see your answers, I may take the case or leave it for another volunteer, so I've left it listed at the 3O page." The exact method you use is really up to you, but there is a long standing consensus about not annotating the dispute list at the 3O page. Again, we're really glad to have you aboard. I'm confused
I've mentioned a couple of your AfD NACs at User talk:Dennis Brown#Speedy renominate because I am confused about process. No doubt there is sense but I can't see it, perhaps because I'm a bit off-colour at the moment. - Sitush (talk) 12:52, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm no AfD expert but I'd assume that no discussion after several weeks defaults to delete (since the only valid argument is to delete the articles). Just a thought. --regentspark (comment) 13:16, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Sitush and User:RegentsPark, you can check Wikipedia:NPASR#No_quorum for more information :) When there is no consenus to delete or keep, the default is "No Conensus" and the article is retained. Articles are brought to AfD for consensus to delete, so lack of discussion doesn't provide the consensus needed, and therefore it would not default to a delete. Both articles that Sitush nominated, due to it being closed as No Consensus, are able to be relisted for deletion. Dusti*poke* 14:17, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- OK. Perhaps Sitush should just prod them and see what happens. Though, I note on WP:NPASR that the closer does have the option to go with the nominator. :) --regentspark (comment) 14:19, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- It's entirely possible that the PROD wouldn't be contested, as nothing was contested on the AfD. *Shrugs* :) Dusti*poke* 14:22, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'll PROD, linking to this thread. The situation is a bit weird, given WP:BURDEN effectively says the opposite to "no consensus = keep" and NPASR is not actually opposed to deletion. It is also a bit scary since it potentially permits obscure hoaxes to remain. - Sitush (talk) 14:41, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- Actually, even perma-linking to this thread is tricky and your one-day archive system is unhelpful. I'll do my best! - Sitush (talk) 14:43, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- The situation itself isn't a mess, I'm afraid. I understand your passion in wanting the article deleted, however, WP:BURDEN doesn't really say anything regarding a closure of an AfD. I followed consensus guidelines and closed it as No Consensus, as there wasn't any input by the community. No input, No consensus. It'd be like if you were to run for RfA and nobody voted. A Bureaucrat can't just promote you because nobody objected - nobody supported you either. It's the entire definition of consensus that creates the issue. There's no support one way or the either regarding the fate of the article. So what we, in essence, have is lack of participation from the community. I'm seeing a trend at AfD with a lot of articles. It used to be (a few years ago) a relisting of an AfD was rare. But that's an entirely different matter.RegentsPark, I'd have no qualm if you disagreed with my closure and deleted the two articles. I'm a neutral NAC party here :) Dusti*poke* 14:57, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- No. I'm not going to undo your closes. They are within policy and are made in good faith so being an admin or not has nothing to do with it. You do have the option to change your mind though because a prod, perhaps followed by another AfD does seem unnecessary :) If not, we might as well stick with the prod route. --regentspark (comment) 15:30, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- It isn't passion, I assure you; it is common sense, at least as far as I see it. There is a conflict between WP:BURDEN and keeping long-unreferenced articles that are nominated for deletion - that, too, seems like common sense. Your RfA analogy has zero chance of happening, whereas the situation being discussed here hashappened. It might have been best if you had not NAC'd the things because "No consensus" is not equivalent to "uncontroversial", whereas a clear consensus one way or the other would be. Basically, you were doing some housekeeping but your rational of "speedy renominate" makes no sense and in the absence of 100% support or oppose to the nomination it is always dodgy to NAC. You see, my issue here is now your close, not the articles themselves. - Sitush (talk) 15:06, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

I followed the guidelines that I set forth there. I suggest that, if you have a qualm, you can take it up at WP:Deletion review. Do you disagree withtheseclosures aswell? Dusti*poke* 15:12, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
I am only one of the many, many people who have asked Dusti to stop closing AfDs. For years. Literally. He clearly lacks the judgment necessary, but seems equally incapable of listening to the advice he has been given repeatedly. Here's another recent example of the problem. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 15:29, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- Carbuncle, seriously? You're here again? You, once again, are wrong. Show me where this closure is a problem? Please :) Dusti*poke* 15:33, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- Dusti, although RegentsPark thinks otherwise, your close was against policy. Forget citing NPASR guidelines and stick with the core policies, notablyWP:V, and bear in mind my considerable experience in dealing with caste-related articles and the sourcing thereof. This is not a DRV issue: the more I think about it, the more I think that you are wrong. If only because this clearly is no longer a non-controversial decision, you must revert. - Sitush (talk) 15:38, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- It'll take me a moment to get them relisted, however, sure - it's being disputed, and I'm absolutely okay with getting them re-opened. Carbuncle, I do see an issue with that closure now that I take a closer look at it. The delete !vote appears to have been outdented and not bolded, I'm going to take a closer look, however, these two (at the time) were in line with policy as expressed above by User:RegentsPark. Dusti*poke* 15:44, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I think you are confusing guidelines with policy and that in those two instances you were choosing to adopt one particular variant of the guideline when others would have been more in compliance with policy, but what the heck. It would be a lot easier if NACs were disallowed entirely, or at least for situation where there are less than, say, five unopposed supports for keep. - Sitush (talk) 15:57, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

CSD declined - The kings school, Goa
Hi. Just to let you know that I have declined the speedy deletion of The kings school, Goa, as educational institutions are not legible for speedy deletion under notability. I see from your talk page that this isn't the first nomination that has been declined for invalid reasons. It might be an idea to refamiliarise yourself with the Speedy Deletion Requirements before nominating any further articles. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a note on my talk page. Stephen! Coming... 11:31, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
