Photos

[edit]

Hello Drawab,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm sorry no-one welcomed you when you made your first edits a couple of weeks ago — we usually try and welcome all new people. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

I saw the photos you uploaded of Mushtaq Mohammad and Mushtaq Ahmed. But I'm afraid they are copyright, so I'm going to have to list them at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. In general, most photos on the web are copyright, and we can only use them if we've got the permission of the photographer. The articles certainly look better with photos, but unfortunately it's illegal to use them.

One more thing — if you're interested in cricket, why not come along and join us at WikiProject Cricket? There's a group of us who work on the cricket articles, and we can always use more help!

Hope to see more from you in future.

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Dontblocktheblog2.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 08:10, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, Drawab. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. SMS Talk 21:50, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Khurrum Sher Zaman, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.na250.com/khurrum_sher_zaman.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Khurrum Sher Zaman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.na250.com/khurrum_sher_zaman. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I'm sorry, but your revision was still far too close to the original. Even if you are the creator of the original, it is copyright and therefore incompatible with Wikipedia's licensing under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and the GFDL for free reuse by anyone anywhere. The original is to promotional to be used anyway, but you would have to get away from the structure of the text. Merely changing words here and there is not enough to avoid being regarded as a very close paraphrase. You also need to get some more reliable independent sources, as well. Profiles and things that the subject is associated with are not independent. Peridon (talk) 12:36, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Drawab, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... these only my profile links - have tried to remove unnecessary links like the link to my TED fellowship page - but if there are other items then please advise --Dr. Awab Alvi (talk) 11:44, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your userpage should contain some information about you, specifically relating to your activities on Wikipedia (with a bit about your off wiki activities if they are relevant). It should not be just a list of links. Indeed such links should be avoided. "Generally, you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a general hosting service, so your user page is not a personal website. Your user page is about you as a Wikipedian, and pages in your user space should be used as part of your efforts to contribute to the project." Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Drawab. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Arif Alvi‎, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 12:01, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure the date of birth is 29 August and not 29 July? --Saqib (talk) 15:11, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Saqib im his son - i can even provide you his passport copy if you deem necessary to obtain proof but would not like to upload it on Wikipedia for security purposes - many sources end researching this artcile on wikipedia and hence the wrong DOB is being propagated - please kindly remove the ambiguity and update the page as 29th August 1949 Dr. Awab Alvi (talk) 19:18, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You do not need to upload any such kind of of identification document On-Wiki. @Ivanvector: Is there any policy or guidance regarding how to deal with situations where a living person claims a certain date of birth but numerous other sources say otherwise? --Saqib (talk) 20:22, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I can share his personal email address which I assure he will respond personally [i do agree President office is at the moment slow - may or may not respond] or alternatively if you DM his "verified" twitter account - i will personally inform him of your incoming message and ask him to personally respond http://twitter.com/ArifAlvi - problem with quoting news sources is once the fact is "kind of established" each news story then uses that as a reference - I'm working to fix this on Wikipedia so at least one "editable" credible source caries his correct DOB - though it has no significance but very important to correct the facts - thank you both for cooperating - Dr. Awab Alvi (talk) 07:34, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: We cannot have wrong information in a Wikipedia article especially when a family member is claiming otherwise. I do not see a reason for someone to lie about date of birth for Alvi. It is not something that they are trying to change some heinous allegation against him like our friend at Nabil Gabol was doing. In fact there are some policies and essays which advise to go for correct factual information if there is a reason to believe that the sources have wrong information, for example Ignore all rules and WP:COMMONSENSE. I am in favor of changing the date of birth as per Drawab. Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 10:42, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Make sense. Please feel free to change the DoB. --Saqib (talk) 17:16, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: thank you for accepting the changes to the DOB - would you be OK if I remove the ambiguity news report references which include the confusion to the July DOB Dr. Awab Alvi (talk) 08:11, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I feel it should remain. --Saqib (talk) 08:28, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Drawab: I am in favor of removing all mention of incorrect birthdays as yourself but Saqib disagrees. We might need a wider discussion i.e. we might need to invite more editors to the discussion or not sure if an RFC will be a good idea! Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 14:34, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: @SheriffIsInTown: My thinking is that the DOB is a verifiable fact and you cant have wrongly quoted references as part of the Wikipedia article - I have taken the liberty to email a copy of his last (recently expired passport) to info@wikipedia.org - cc'ing Dr Arif Alvi himself on both his private email address and his presidential address so that if the editors still have any ambiguity on this issue they can email and verify from the source himself - Hope we can wrap this issue up - I do thank you for supporting in all this discussion Dr. Awab Alvi (talk) 10:37, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
