Living people - on the talk page wikiproject biography and living =yes, and on the category at the front of article living people. JarrahTree 12:23, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Seen them now. Also - wondering why pages go to a wiki section with a number? Is that to check if they are OK, or to suck up extra information? Thanks for all your help, I appreciate your time. :-)

No problems, sorry I am not helping more, worth learning to WP:SIGN. cheers JarrahTree 13:52, 27 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

would be well worth un-doing the categories on your user page as they actually link your page to the category. JarrahTree 13:54, 27 July 2019 (UTC) Oh! Thanks! Cool, so many rookie errors! DrPlantGenomics (talk) 14:10, 27 July 2019 (UTC)DrPlantGenomics[reply]

nah - no big deal, there are more trip ups, than in any elusive shakespearian line about twixt and tween - or anything that horatio might say - rule of thumb at this stage - find a similar article - and reverse engineer - many intriguing parts can be found and uncovered... If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Fran Baum requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.flinders.edu.au/people/fran.baum. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 01:23, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DrPlantGenomics (talk) 07:09, 2 August 2019 (UTC)Thanks for your comments. COI

[edit]

You have an obvious conflict of interest, please don't write about yourself, your friends or relatives and read the guidance below

  • When you write about a person, you must provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that they meet the notability guidelines. Sources that are not acceptable include those linked to the person or an associated organisation, press releases, YouTube, IMDB, social media and other sites that can be self-edited, blogs, websites of unknown or non-reliable provenance, and sites that are just reporting what the person claims or interviewing them. Note that references should be in-line so we can tell what fact each is supporting, and should not be bare urls
  • you must write in a non-promotional tone. Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, with verifiable facts, not opinions or reviews.
  • there shouldn't be any url links in the article, only in the "References" or "External links" sections.
  • you must not copy text from elsewhere. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you or your organisation, unless they state clearly and explicitly that the text is public domain. We require that text posted here can be used, modified and distributed for any purpose, including commercial; text is considered to be copyright unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright, or you have permission to use the text, isn't sufficient.

Before attempting to write an article again, please make sure that the topic meets the notability criteria linked above, and check that you can find independent third party sources. Also read Your first article. You must also reply to the COI request above Jimfbleak - talk to me? 06:03, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DrPlantGenomics (talk) 07:31, 2 August 2019 (UTC) Dear JimfBleak, I am not sure what the COI with Baum is? It is possible that initially there was not enough sources from a variety of locations so I fixed this and more sources were added from The Conversation, from the ABC and also from a professional web page. Thank you for the new things I learned. Best wishes DrPlantGenomics (talk) 07:31, 2 August 2019 (UTC).[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Caroline Ford (medical researcher), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page New York (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:13, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Alison Todd

[edit]

Hello, DrPlantGenomics,

Thanks for creating Alison Todd! I edit here too, under the username Winged Blades of Godric and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:-

H-index is way too low and the cited coverage (which is mainly on her company) fails to pass GNG for me. See WP:NACADEMIC and WP:GNG. Incline to nominate for deletion.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Winged Blades of Godric}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Thanks {{Re|Winged Blades of Godric}} - what are some examples of pay-walled sources, or what specifically where you talking about for example? Do you mean Scopus or PubMed? I have since added references to each of her references. Also I agree - her H index is low to be notable for an academic so I have removed this. I think she is notable for her 18 patents, and prizes and mentions in the media. I have now added all these. I believe her notability now has evidence, what do you think ? Women in Red

[edit]

Hi there, DrPlantGenomics, and welcome to Women in Red. I see you have already created a couple of women's biographies and hope there will be many more. Please make sure you include secondary sources (from journals, newspapers and books) which demonstrate notability rather than just primary sources directly related to the individuals you cover. You'll find more advice in our Ten Simple Rules and our Primer for creating women's biographies. Let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. The key to re-using refs is to name them. You will need to edit the source to see it. If you are using the Visual Editor then you will see there is a reuse tab when you are inserting a new ref. HTH - Roger aka Victuallers (talk) 07:58, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Penny Ackery may well be moved to Draft:Penny Ackery by the time you read this

[edit]

Hi DrPlantGenomics, and thank you for your contributions. As of 13 November 2021 it would appear that Ms Ackery does not meet the "WP:ANYBIO" and a number of other criteria, including but not limited to "WP:NPOL" for inclusion as a Wikipedia article. The 2022 Australian federal election is still a long way off, and - while Psephologists may disagree - nobody actually knows who will be the member for Hume will be until the AEC posts the result on its website. [edit]
Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Authority control

[edit]

Hi DrPlantGenomics, thanks for all your contributions to Wikipedia! Just to let you know that I changed one of your drafts to refer to the Wikidata item Cori Stewart (Q115611813). This is the preferred way of adding authority control identifiers to a draft article, as one day adding other parameters directly will not work. (You will have noticed the red error message on the article.) Please let me know if you have any questions, regards — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:34, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Any thoughts on the above? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:16, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your comment. I'm not exactly sure what this means. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DrPlantGenomics (talkcontribs)
Hi again. I am suggesting that you add the Wikidata qid to the {{Authority control}} template on your new articles, (example) which will automatically pull the identifiers through — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:28, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK this looks great. Can you explain how I do this? Do I go to Wikidata and link the person's name on the Wikidata page? Thank you. I think I once learned how to do this a year or so ago but don't recall. DrPlantGenomics (talk) 22:45, 10 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you can find the right item in Wikidata (search here) then copy the number at the top beginning with Q (e.g. Q115611813) and then add it as a parameter |qid=Q115611813 to the authority control template — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:54, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Karen Livesey,

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Karen Livesey,. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Karen Livesey. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Karen Livesey. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Thank you Liz! That was absolutely a typo, I created the page with the comma first, and then to solve that, I created the correct one. I'm happy for someone to delete the wrong page. I managed a solution, which was to create the page without the comma, but this one needs deleting. I'm not at all discouraged, onwards and upwards!

Hi, I had to remove several chunks of the page which were copyright violations. As a result, the biography is now extremely short and perhaps worth expanding in your own words. Thanks for all the effort on the creation of new pages, but please be careful with copyright. Broc (talk) 08:39, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvios

[edit]

Hi, I found the same copyright issues at Tara Pukala and Karen Livesey. Please be more careful in the future. Broc (talk) 08:48, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please let me know which text you think is not sufficiently original enough and I will edit it. Thank you. Broc (talk) DrPlantGenomics (talk) 08:56, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I already removed it and requested CV-REVDEL on all three pages. Until an admin completes the revision deletion, you can still access the page history. Broc (talk) 08:59, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since we're chatting already, I found some minor styling issues in your otherwise very well written pages. I would suggest using en-dashes instead of hyphens when needed per MOS:DASH, and to avoid the excessive use of caps (e.g.: "she is associate professor" instead of "she is Associate Professor") per MOS:CAPS. Broc (talk) 09:06, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your last edit on Tiahni Adamson ([2]), I find the copyright issue to still be present. You should avoid close paraphrasing. In this case, you just changed a few supporting words in the sentence but you can still recognize it is a copy of the original source by the use of refined expressions such as "inaugural cohort". I would suggest reading the source and then rewriting it entirely in your own words. In this case, for instance, you could use "first intake", "initial group", "opening class"... Broc (talk) 09:13, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And just to be clear, this is not meant to discourage you in any way. I think you're doing a great job with the creation of pages and just wanted to point out some copyright issues which seem to be recurring in many of your articles. Broc (talk) 09:15, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox pages

[edit]

Just a reminder that user sandbox pages aren't allowed to be filed in mainspace categories, per WP:USERNOCAT. It seems every time you update one of your sandbox pages to work on a new topic, it's back in categories again, but sandboxes can't be in categories. You can put categories on the page in disabled form if you wish, such as wrapped in the {{draft categories}} template or with a leading colon in front of the word Category (e.g. [[:Category:Bla bla]]) so that it turns into a text link to the category instead of filing the page in the category, and then undisable them after you've moved the content into a real article, or alternatively you can just leave categories off the page entirely and add them only when you're moving the content, but the page can't actually be filed in categories while it's still in your sandbox. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 16:24, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, interesting. I've just checked sandbox 6, 7, 8, and 9 and none have categories in them. As examples, see the attached. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DrPlantGenomics/sandbox6

DrPlantGenomics (talk) 00:23, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you look at this version of sandbox 8 for instance, you will see that you had added categories to it. In the next edit, @Bearcat removed them so that your sandbox did not appear in those categories. Oronsay (talk) 01:12, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i.e. Add categories to the article after you have moved it to mainspace, please. Oronsay (talk) 01:13, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Oronsay! I have now saved them in my word document template. DrPlantGenomics (talk) 03:58, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As noted by Oronsay, those are all currently not in categories because I removed them from the categories that you previously added them to. If you check their edit histories, on each page you'll find two, three or four instances of me editing them with the edit summary "WP:USERNOCAT", which is me removing categories that you added in a prior edit. Bearcat (talk) 01:15, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, that is useful feedback. DrPlantGenomics (talk) 03:59, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
