classification of Frafra
[edit]Hi,
I see you changed the classification of Frafra. If you have a better classification than Manessy, perhaps you could update the classification at Oti–Volta languages as well? — kwami (talk) 20:06, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- What I changed is based on my personal acquaintance with native speakers around me, here in Tamale. The other languages are basically foreign to (Northern) GhanaDrMennoWolters (talk) 20:19, 29 December 2013 (UTC) and seldom heard here, so I prefer to refrain from a judgment about them. However, it is certainly true that the Dagbani languages are related to Moore, Qusasi etcetera, so big changes of the existing classification are not necessary. It is at the level of mutual intelligibility that I make changes. A Mossi girl who lived three years in my house, but came from the Ghanaian/Burkinabe border, needed three months to learn Dagbani, whereas her Dagbani speaking sister does not understand her relatives when they speak Moore. DrMennoWolters (talk) 20:19, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Good info, but that's not the same as a classification. Also, what's "Qusasi"? — kwami (talk) 20:47, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Qusasi is spoken in the Qusaug, a kingdom you cross on the road from Bolgatanga to Bawku. The kingdom covers part of the Bawku West District. Qusasi is the language you learn in Primary and Junior Secondary School in that area. Wikipedia writes it as Kussasi and Kussaug, but the signboards along the road, placed by the local traditional government (i.e. the king) write the kingdom's name as Qusaug. DrMennoWolters (talk) 21:16, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Odd that intelligibility would cut across branches like that, but not be reliable within branches. Makes me wonder if we're dealing with contact bilingualism here, like when people claim the Scandinavian languages are mutually intelligible. — kwami (talk) 06:56, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- I will find out the details when I travel to Upper East Region next year. I'll definitely check the schoolbooks in Bolgatanga and Zebilla, and possibly get information from the chiefs. DrMennoWolters (talk) 09:34, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Chumburung
[edit]You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles. See the Article Wizard.
A tag has been placed on Chumburung, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an acceptable page. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item G11, as well as the guidelines on spam.
If you can indicate why the subject of this page is not blatant advertising, . Clicking that button will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. You are welcome to edit the page to fix this problem, but please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. As well as removing promotional phrasing, it helps to add factual encyclopaedic information to the page, and add citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the page will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. A.Minkowiski (talk) 09:49, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
- This newly created user "Minkowiski" probably committed an act of vandalism. Anyway, the proposal to delete the article has been quickly denied. DrMennoWolters (talk) 12:27, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
