Taking macro photos.
Hi, to take close up photos you have to enable the macro mode. The macro mode can be enabled by pressing the button with a small flower symbol (it is present in the circular group of 4 buttons, next to the LCD) When the macro mode is enabled, you will also see a small flower logo in the LCD. The manual will have more details on it. In this mode you can take photos from a range as close as 5cm. Let me know if you have any doubts. --vineeth 04:59, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- That's what I thought it was, I've done that... but that photo just looks spectacular, even for using the 'flower mode'. Disavian 11:58, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- Just take the camera as close as 5-10 cm, press the button half way to focus,(you will see a green rectangle when focusing is done),then press the button completely to take the snap, thats it. Try a few times, it took me some time learn.its simple --vineeth 18:42, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Congressional committee categories
WAIT! We just last month went through a whole WP:CFD to removed these categories (Category:U.S. House committees).—Markles 15:05, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- Ooops. I'll undo what I did, and change it to a redirect. Disavian 15:07, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- I fixed what I did; and I edited Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Congress and removed the House and Senate committee categories. I assumed that since they were on there, that they needed to be implemented. Disavian 15:17, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
No SpringFest!
It made me sad, so I wrote the article on it. Mike H. That's hot 07:12, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
- We had something similar happen here, too, with Music Midtown - but I didn't write that article. Music Midtown was actually a really good fest, too. Clearchannel came in and f'ed it up, and then they cancelled this year's becuase of "declining ticket sales." Well DUH, if you double the price of tickets, and it rains the entire time, and there are maybe four good acts over three days, you're going to have a steep decline in attendance. Freaking retards. Disavian 07:19, 12 March 2006 (UTC)
Be careful
I saw that you reverted the Kurt Cobain article here, but you reverted it to a vandalized version. You should try to be more careful next time. Keep well, Zingazin 00:09, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey...
No, it is actually Windows IE since Microsoft will not use it for Mac anymore. The name used to be Microsoft Internet Explorer, but now they changed it to Windows Internet Explorer, that's why I put the word "Windows" on the template. Check the official website: [[2]] Thanks, Kseferovic 21:55, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi, Disavian. You voted to keep "and fix" Template:Major programming languages. Hoewever, the reasons why it was nominated instead of fixed in the first place was because several people feel this template is inherently unfixable, short of deleting is and using a a proper "see also" section. Would you consider eiter changing your vote or give some suggesting on how you would like to see the tempate fixes? Cheers, —Ruud 19:47, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi - I wanted to once again explain to you that I am not trying to be confrontational. I really appreciated your kindness at first and that is why I wrote you the letter. It had a place to e-mail you on the page so I didn't think that meant harassment. I will try to apoligise again to you. I hope this is an acceptable place to try this again.Michaelle 19:58, 6 June 2006 (UTC)MICHAELLEMichaelle 19:58, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
User/vs IP address
Hey, You just sent me a message and I don't really know how to reply. The only thing keeping me from registering is that I have dozens of contributions as the IP address I'm using and I don't want to loose all my "edit history". Is there a way to transfer or at least copy it to a user profile? Thanks, Faris,
Thanks. I did it and I am a user now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Faris b (talk • contribs)
Thanks
Thanks for the welcome. Now you see why I was reluctant to join in the past but I guess leaving that message is what I was going for but was hoping that I could transfer the edits. Yeah, I love wiki. I've been a fan of wiki since mid 2004 which I first found it.
Anyway, I know I can read all about this on it's page but I am hoping for a short answer seeing as how the page is lengthy - what exactly are the userboxes all about? Are they new? I have only seen them used since a few months ago.
Faris b 02:20, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Userboxes are small boxes that you'd put on your userpage that detail your interest in a certain subject. Think of e-bumper stickers. I rather like them, but there's a big debate going on as to which userboxes should stay, and which should be deleted. --Disavian 02:22, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the info. I'll look into them more. They seem interesting.
Faris b 02:25, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your note on my talk page
Hi Disavian; thanks for your note on my talk page. I think I'll just leave the warning there, since your note makes it clear it was vandalism. That's the first time I've seen something like that... seems to be a vandal who knows a bit about Wikipedia. --Allen 05:50, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- I've had a spam-vandal put my userpage up for deletion, and an admin came and reverted it rather promptly. That was a while ago, though. --Disavian 05:51, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Semi protected
I have semi proteced the page, it was a consorted effort by several IP's of the same school, and they would just go to the next computer and continue. -- Kim van der Linde at venus 14:57, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for your prompt action :) --Disavian 14:58, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- This is a good case to ask semi on directly, ot is just flushing it with different ip's. It is a school, so I will unprotect later today, warn me (and AN/I) if it goes wrong again next week. -- Kim van der Linde at venus 15:23, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Your edit to Meanings of asteroid names (56001-57000)
Your recent edit to Meanings of asteroid names (56001-57000) was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to recognize and repair vandalism to Wikipedia articles. If the bot reverted a legitimate edit, please accept my humble creator's apologies – if you bring it to the attention of the bot's owner, we may be able to improve its behavior. The "vandalism" you saw was due to me reverting to an edit that still contained vandalism using VandalProof - May i request that the warning is removed? Thanks -Benbread 23:27, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, no problem. Double check to make sure you/we got all of the vandalism, though. Seems like there might be a bug in VandalProof that reverts reverted vandalism if you're not careful... --Disavian 23:28, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks, i sure wish VandalProof would give a better indication of previous edits! -Benbread 23:29, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Apostles' Creed
I appreciate the welcome. However, the edits I made were not vandalism and should not have been reverted.
The first edit was changing the dates in Origin of the Creed from CE to AD for consistency, as well as because that is the predominant form for denoting years from that time.
The second edit was in the ecumenical translation of the creed, changing "God's only Son" to "his only Son". This reflects the creed as stated in Lutheran Book of Worship, as well as the Catholic text as linked to on the page (to the Vatican, no less). Some people may disagree as to whether the text should contain "God's" or "his", reflecting the greater debate over gender neutrality, but it is a legitimate disagreement, and my change is not vandalism. (I have read the Wikipedia page on vandalism and am confident of that.)
Finally, under Rites of Baptism, I changed "Evangelical Lutherans" to "ELCA Lutherans". Although the full name of the ELCA is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we tend to focus more on the acronym than the word "evangelical". I should know, as I am an ELCA Lutheran.
None of my changes are nonsense or otherwise vandalism. I'm not interested in defacing Wikipedia pages, nor do I really have the time to make anything other than sensible edits. You're free to disagree with my changes, of course, but they are not vandalism. So I ask that you revert the page to reflect the changes I made and remove the warnings from my talk page, as well as remove me from any blacklist you may have put me on.
Finally, I noticed that you reverted the page awfully quickly, and others have made similar reverts in the recent past. A couple of the changes that were reverted seem pretty picky or otherwise not harmful. Whether that's due to this VandalProof program you're using or to the individual patrollers, I don't know, but I suggest you refrain from reverting every little change and focus on the more egregious instances. (Like if someone were to change "God" or "Jesus" to "Satan", for example.) Otherwise people will never be able to improve this or other pages, and improvement is what makes Wikipedia what it is (that and the fact that it's free).
I appreciate your understanding and attention. Thank you.

- I don't care about the his/God bit, but please leave years in BCE/CE instead of BC/AD. --Disavian 15:54, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- I do think that it was appropriate to change the years from CE to AD because usage was inconsistent in the article. I have read the policy on the matter, and it says that both forms (BC-AD and BCE-CE) are acceptable, but they should not be changed without a "substantial reason". But it also calls for consistency within the article, so I changed it to make the usage consistent. That said, someone else made an even more sensible edit and removed all of the era references, which is appropriate given that all of the years listed fall within the AD era.
- I would still appreciate it if you would remove the warning from my talk page, since we have cleared this matter up. Thanks.
- Btw, something seems to have gotten messed up with the userboxes on your user page, so that they're all condensed on the left side of the page. I noticed it last night, and it hasn't been fixed. Thought you'd like to know so you can fix it. 24.196.82.58 17:20, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks :) 24.196.82.58 17:24, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure the userbox thing is a bug in IE. I haven't had time to figure out a way to keep it from doing that. --Disavian 17:25, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

GTRI
Thanks for all the help on the GTRI article. I'm working with Kirk Englehardt (GTRI Communications Director) to make the article the best it can be, but it's quite a balancing act between presenting GTRI as positively as possible, maintaining NPOV, and observing wiki standards. Your input has been a big help... I look forward to more input as our work continues/evolves. Josh atl 04:19, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
- Turing the bullshitese on the GTRI website into honest fact is rather difficult. For example, translate this line from GTRI History, 1990:
- "GTRI restructures its organization to improve its flexibility in adapting to the changing needs of external R&D markets, responding to the broader and more interdisciplinary interests of sponsors, and attaining more cost-effective performance."
- I'm in ELSYS, by the way. I also wanted GTRI to have a correct and accurate article, as wikipedia is today's source for information for a lot of people, naysayers be damned. Indeed, that's one reason I created the GTRI article. :) --Disavian 16:00, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
Hey, I learned yesterday that HESL is defunct and that there are currently seven labs. I've (hopefully) updated all the pertinent articles to reflect this, though you might want to see if you can find out exactly what happened to HESL (I think I got eaten by some other labs) and update its article to reflect that. Kira Nerys/Mirror Kira
Is there a wiki article on the mirror Kira? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 00:06, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Actually no there isn't. I'm currently at odds with where to put the LGBT link. Normal Kira I believe should not have it, maybe the specific episode or the mirror universe article. I don't really know. Gdo01 00:09, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
- Perhaps you'd like to start one? Or maybe there needs to be a Mirror Kira section of the Kira article? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 00:22, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I see that you inserted the "expand" tag on the article. Other than what I recently added, there's very little more to add since it's only an unincorporated suburban area (of Pensacola) and a census-designated place. --Moreau36 16:58, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Anonym users list?
Would there happen to be a list of anonymous IP addresses that were used to browse/edit Wiki? I couldn't find one? Previsouly, when I was an anonym user before I joined, I had a page and I had another one back in 2004 but I lost track of it (it was just an IP address) since we moved so I am hoping there is a list that I can search for it at. I have an IP address that was simmilar to my own which was only 2 digits off and if I can find a list, I can probably find my old one, the reason I need it is because I had a message that I never got to read.
Thanks, Faris b 06:25, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know of one. The best bet is to go through articles you know you edited and look for an IP that might have been yours. I looked through IP addresses, and yours is the only one with messages between 66.116.31.00 and 66.116.31.255. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 15:02, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the info. However, I did a search on my computer for the IP address that I was looking for, using the simmilar one as a base and I found my old anon page! Apparently, it says I don't have any messages in my talk page, could they have been deleted? I get the "create a talk page" box, not a blanked out one.
- Thanks, Faris b 18:58, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- If it's been deleted, there will be an entry in the page's "deletion log." —Disavian (talk/contribs) 19:13, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- I checked the logs and it found nothing but I am almost sure that I had a message. Thanks though because I saw the "You have new messages header" but I never clicked on it in time. --Faris b 20:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Precedent from articles like University of California, Berkeley motivated my actions for the most part, although length was also a problem. In the Berkeley example, named colleges (e.g. Goldman School of Public Policy) use just the college name in the article title, whereas unnamed colleges (e.g. UC Berkeley College of Engineering) also use the university name prefix ("UC Berkeley") to distinguish them. Only the Ivan Allen College at Georgia Tech is named, so that's the only one that I modified. Again, using Berkeley as a model, I might want to see the Georgia Tech unnamed college article titles truncated to "Georgia Tech" rather than the verbose "Georgia Institute of Technology." MaxVeers 23:38, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- I was using the model of a sub-article from the Georgia Institute of Technology; kind of like how the category was renamed to match the article name/official school name. I was just going with that. So if there's a precedent for something else, especially if that college is a featured article, it's cool with me. On a side note, do you prefer "History of Georgia Tech" or "History of the Georgia Institute of Technology" ? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 01:10, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- The renaming of the category from Georgia Tech to Georgia Institute of Technology matches the precedent of MIT. Likewise, MIT's history sub-article is titled History of MIT rather than History of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, so I'd prefer following that precedent as well (History of Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech in popular culture, etc.). MaxVeers 02:54, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
I think I'm about ready to move it out of my userspace, but I'd like you to have a look at it before I do so. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 20:13, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- I think the WikiProject page looks pretty good! Have you looked at laying out the "Articles to work on" section in a full-width box, though? It is very long, admittedly, but it's kind of distracting having things off to the left of it for its entire length. • WarpFlyght (talk) 20:39, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- I could move the images, templates, and categories sections to the right, but then the page feels "lopsided" to me. Perhaps you'd like a project subpage with a {{todo}} box that points to that list as its content? The title of the section could be a link to that subpage, and it's an easy matter to redirect the todo box content to the /Article subpage. A little complex, yes. But it sounds workable. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 21:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- How does this look? It is currently linked from the title of the "Articles to work on" page. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 21:30, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

- Hey, you've got to start somewhere... —Disavian (talk/contribs) 22:28, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
FYI, media photos are almost never permitted. Please see WP:FAIR#Counterexamples #5.
Here's a simple way to understand what "fair use" is - if I create a work, you can use my work in an article about that work itself. You can usually use my work in an article about me. But you cannot use my work for commentary on a third party.
The whole idea with fair use images is that if you are doing an article about, say, a TV show, it is patently impossible to create a "free" version of an image pertaining to that show. The production company owns the rights to it. Even if you were to show up on their set and take a photo of their actors, they would still have rights to it. So we use a screenshot of the TV show because there is no such thing as a free version. Similarly, if you are writing an article about a company, there is no such thing as a free equivalent of that company's logo.
But in the case of a random celebrity who is still living today, there is a free equivalent. Anyone can show up at a GT football game and take a photo of Calvin Johnson. If you visit a GT message board, you might find someone who has taken a photo of him and would be willing to release it into the public domain.
Because a free photo of Calvin Johnson could be created, it is inappropriate on Wikipedia to use a non-free one.
I hope this explanation helps ... please let me know if I can explain further. BigDT 22:03, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

What category would it go in, then?
- Beats the heck outta me. I posed the question on the TelevisionStationsProject talk page to see if anyone could help out. All I know is that the Infobox Broadcast template is more geared to indiviual television stations. There is another infobox used, Template:Infobox Network that is more geared to traditional over-the-air networks, but again, I doubt very much that that would apply, either. dhett 08:24, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure how to format the MomoCon wiki page, but I copy and pasted it and updated the test (pasted below) if you would format it for me? I can email it to you if you want.

- I'll edit it here, tell me if this is what you're looking for; for ideas, see QuakeCon. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 20:05, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Absolutely Perfect! Can you upload it to the page? I always mess up the formatting!! -Jesspanda 15:51, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- How's that? The past conventions could use a little formatting help, and the article could use some copyediting; otherwise, it looks pretty good. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 17:08, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
