Welcome to Arcive 2!

I'll probably be adding to this over the next few weeks.

  • Start: 23 July 2006
  • End: 28 August 2006

Fair use in userspace again

Dfrg.msc, please be careful not to use fair-use images in userspace. I've again removed a screenshot you've taken from your talkpage and everywhere else it appears in userspace. Also, I'd still appreciate it if you put more effort into serious contributions and less or none into pranks and jokes. Productive contribution shouldn't be an afterthought on the project. --Improv 15:22, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

Improv, thanks again for your quick actions. I have been experementing (as you can probalby see) with my signatre and I unthinkingly used the Disk Defragmenter image again on my page as it was tied to my signature. I again thankyou for the time that you continualy devote to help me as I still learn. Unfortunately I only discover my mistakes after I make them, so it is up to veteran, kind Admins to help me until I can cope independently.

Also how do I go about creating an Arcive for my talk page? I hope to be stepping up my Contributions into the Australian currency Article, as I posses a vast amoun of images that I want to contribute to that and related articles.

Thanks again, User:Dfrg.msc

Wikipedia:How to archive a talk page. Tijuana Brass¡Épa! 08:49, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Signatures and stuff

Unfortunately, I'm not a great person to ask about complex signatures -- you might want to hop on IRC for some more advice. Generally images in signatures are frowned upon though. WRT archiving talk pages, what you do is move your current talk page to something like User_talk:Dfrg.msc/archive1 and then return to your talk page, make a link to that, and note that you archived. If you need help, I can either do it for you or show you how in more detail. --Improv 13:59, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Is there any way I could convince you not to include an image in your signature though? It's rather obnoxious and makes conversations look ugly. --Improv 19:17, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Oh no Stifle. Just what do you think your doing? I've worked too hard for you to do this. And why? Dont assume, look at my contributions and what have I done? What ties me to "Smugface" (as you and every second person belives)? And what sets us apart? CONSTRUCTIVE EDITS! Thats bloody what!

Not happy Jan!

Hardly! As to my article contributions, I do what I can, when I can. Do you know how hard it is to edit articles without a Q or S (I copy and Paste them)? And what is this general annoyance, if I am causing general annoyance - then why sould I not be told of my behavior so I can make an attempt to stop it? Dont make acusations you cant back up. I yell at no-one, my main-man. I dont mind being acused, it's quite funny actually, I just dislike that godawful template. It makes me look sleazy.

User:Dfrg.msc User talk:Dfrg.msc 10:08, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

You have been told of your inappropriate behaviour many times. Don't act like this is your first time. --Scottie theNerd 13:52, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
  • 1 I have reformed, and come along way scince then,
  • 2 GET OUT OF MY HOUSE SCOTTIE!

Scottie, were you not once prone to making mistakes and overstepping the boundaries because you didnt know they were there? And no this is not my first time, I've been warned and all behaviors I have been informed about are seldom repeated (deliberately). User:Dfrg.msc User talk:Dfrg.msc 01:15, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

If you have reformed, good. My point is that you have been viewed as a troublemaker in the past, and that is a black mark against you. That you have already admitted to by claiming you have "reformed". Additionally, I have every right to post my comment on your talk page, as it is within the guidelines set by Wikipedia. Do not tell me to "get of your house". Additionally, I have not incurred the wrath of Wikipedia administrators nor have I overstepped any boundaries or made mistakes on Wikipedia. I do not see the relevance of this remark. My point stands: you've been in the bad books, and if you want people to see you differently, you'd better shape up. --Scottie theNerd 03:35, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Dfrg.msc,

I noticed you failed to meet the entry requirements a while ago for Esperanza, but it looks to me as if you could now join!

If you are still interested, we'd be glad to welcome you- just re-read the requirements here and follow the instructions.

I look forward to seeing you around!

I actually don't know how to do that. If you can point me at any examples of what you're trying to do, I'll prod at it and let you know how it works. I'd like to encourage you to focus less on your userpage and more on the articles though.. Take care. --Improv 08:23, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

  • I gave it a try with a simple cquote on my talkpage, and it seems to work with me. My guess is that some of the stuff you included in your cquote attempt (links?) doesn't work with that template. Something simple like below seems to work. --Improv 12:05, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Hmmm, not sure as to why it wasn't working before, pehaps the link was the cause. Well, thanks again for your help Improv.

Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Dfrg.msc, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC Tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

As a member of the barnstar brigade, I award you this —

First Userbox

I've made my first userbox! Woohoo! I'm happy! What do you think? See User:Dfrg.msc#Stealing (and Making) templates!. Dfrg.msc User talk:Dfrg.msc 10:22, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Hello, to check a user's contribs, go to their userpage, and then look in the sidebar for a link titled "User Contributions". As for the userbox, it's good to see that you're starting to understand templates (although userboxes are kind of discouraged nowadays). However, I again suggest that you're spending a lot more time with your userpage than you probably should, and that the primary focus of everyone's efforts here should be the project. For most established editors, they only touch their userpage every few months. Take care. --Improv 15:53, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

August Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: To-Do List
The Esperanza To-Do List is a place where you may list any request, big or small, for assistance. If you need help with archiving your usertalk, for example, all you need to do is list it here and somebody will help you out. Likewise, if you need help with some area of editing on Wikipedia, list it here! Again, any matter, trivial or not, can be placed on this page. However, all matters listed on this page must not be of an argumentative nature. You do not need to be a member of Esperanza (or this program) to place or fulfill requests on this page. If you don't have any requests, consider coming by and fulfilling a few! This program has not been very active, but has lots of potential!
What's New?
In order to help proposed programs become specific enough to make into full-fledged programs, the In development section of the proposals page has been created. Proposals that are promising, but need to be organized in more detail are listed here. Please take a look at what is there, and help the proposals turn into programs.
To improve both the layout and text of the front page, in an attempt to clarify the image of Esperanza, the front page is going to have some redesigning take place. Please take your creative minds to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Front page redesign to brainstorm good ideas.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. In order to make sure all users who join Esperanza are welcomed, a list of volunteers who are willing to welcome new Esperanzians is at Wikipedia:Esperanza/Members#Esperanza_welcomers. Please add yourself if you are interested; we want to make sure all new Esperanza members are welcomed!
  2. The In development section of the proposals page has been created.
  3. Proposals page: Some proposals have been moved to the aforementioned "In development" section, some have been left as a proposal, and others have been archived. For those proposals that were a good idea but didn't necessarily constitute a program, General Esperanzial Actions has been created.
  4. Two small pieces of charter reform will be decided on in a straw poll at Wikipedia talk:Esperanza/Governance. One involves filling the position of any councillors who may leave, the other involves reforming the charter.
  5. Until cooperation with the Kindness Campaign is better defined, it remains as a proposed program.
  6. There is a page for discussing the front page redesign.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

Dfrg.msc User talk:Dfrg.msc 01:16, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

As a suggestion, you may want to tidy up your spelling and grammar skills. The impetus for my changes was the fact that 'Australian' was spelt wrong in 'Australian royal' — an article which, due to lack of original content, was redundant. michael talk 01:57, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

No original content? Well, I'll argue that later. So I can't spell the name of the country I live in - that makes me even more 'Australian' and few of us actually can. Look, I'm doing the best I can with a keyboard with re-arranged keys and no S or Q, (I copy and paste them by the way) lower case michael. Your spelling and grammar mistakes are intended, unlike mine. Pehaps information that is relivant can be moved, changed or improved apon. Thanks lower case mik, Dfrg.msc User talk:Dfrg.msc 23:58, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Mate, I wasn't trying to have a go at you. Apologies if you took it that way. michael talk 01:28, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Ah, Mik! It is me that should be apologizing to you, you said what you said out of genuine consern for me, which at the time I did not recoginize. You are right though, spelling and grammar is something on which I must work on; though there are definatley worse offendres (User:Culverin) I'm looking at you. I am serious about the keyboard with re-arranged keys and no S or Q. See the picture. And I have finaly found someone else that calls people by the more informal "mate" other than me! Woo hoo! [[:File:DFRLego 003.jpg|thumb|100px|Yarr! It might be a good idea to ask someone more knowledgable about thus -- ask here for possibly better advice. Take care. --Improv 09:14, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

RE: Shortcuts

You can add shortcuts to articles by using the following code (this example links to the Esperanza coffee lounge):

{{shortcut|WP:ESP/CL|WP:EA/CL}}

but they're discouraged for talk and user pages, especially if the shortcut is from a main space page (e.g. Cake or 'C' to User talk:EvocativeIntrigue).

Shame Minun got blocked, because there was potential in him, but I haven't been around to know what's been going on recently- work has taken over my life and I'm moving soon too!
