Horwood House

[edit]

Hi I've just had a page I write ruined by the image police [1] I see you uploaded it the image, could you fix the source - I'd appresiate it - thanks. Giano 14:18, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - i saw your interest in telephones etc and guessed that was the connection - di d a toutr of Bletchley Park recently - fascinating stuff. Regards Giano 14:46, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again - you have to put this template on it - (I've done it for you) {{PD-self} except adding the final "}" Regards Giano 14:50, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
about 2000 miles! Giano 14:58, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sicily! you make the template by typing in PD-self between {{ }} - if I do it here though it will make the template appear on your page. Giano 15:17, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Like this - {{pd-self}} - but without the "nowiki" tags. -- ALoan (Talk) 15:50, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I hope I'm not being the "image police" but is this image scanned in from a book? If so - who made the original diagram? You can't claim to release it under the GFDL if it's a copy of someone else's work. (sorry). Secretlondon 12:31, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No its good to have some help in this area.

That is from a BT phamplet issued in the 1970s that does not conatin any copyright. For refernce it is ICS8.2.1 I took the photo of it so what copyright message should I use. This information is in the public domain but I did not want to take the time to create my own version but I will if I have to.

Also Image:Common control 1.JPG - is this your photo? If not, who took it? Secretlondon 12:41, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did indeed draw all the diagrams but the photos came from various sources but the ones with Tom Shiplee in came from him. He is an old friend and used to be my boss who has given me permission to use them. I would appreciate you telling me which type of copyright I can use as when I first put them in ages ago they were removed. Thnanks.

Image:Common control 5.JPG looks scanned in. Who is "Tom Shiplee of Tyne and Wear", is that where you got the photo from? I don't know if anyone has pointed you to the image use policy. You can make a case that historic images are irreplacable and hence can be used under fair use. Currently you are claiming you took the photos/drew the diagrams yourself as you are tagging them with the GFDL and cc-by-sa tags. If you've got any questions - ask me. Wikipedia:Copyright_FAQ may also help. Secretlondon 12:52, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GPO Telephones

[edit]

From my own user page:
Thnaks a bunch for reverting my edits and I had messed it up and jusrt sorting it out and you reverted it. Please check before destroying all my work. Deben Dave 21:26, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Cant really see why i reverted that. In case you want to revert my revert, open the GPO Telephonie page, and select the "History" tab on top of that page. This will show all the previous versions of the page. Just select your correct version and save it again. This will overwrite my rollback. Sorry for the incorrect vandalism rollback. --Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 21:30, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BT Sockets

[edit]

I took another look at the article after reading your comment, and I think I can see where you're coming from. Also, after your reorganisation, the section is looking significantly better and it is much easier to get info from now. Thanks for explaining your reasoning on the subject to me :) --Mouchoir le Souris (talk) 00:07, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome; you've done a really good job with this article and I'm just happy to help with some tidying. I'm afraid I have no connection with Horwood House or knowledge of what became of the Denny family. ~ Scribble Monkey (talk) 10:40, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can certainly do that. ~ Scribble Monkey (talk) 15:47, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:B17 Over Berlin.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:B17 Over Berlin.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:12, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am a personal friend of the author and he has given permission to use it. Deben Dave (talk) 10:02, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In my experience that explanation is unlikely to be satisfactory - the owner of the copyright needs to fill out the rationale themselves, on the grounds that anyone could state that they have been given permission to do something. Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:30, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A man hit this author over the head with an axe I kid you not and is severely handicapped. It is very difficult for him to even send an email. In fact you can see him sitting in the wheel chair with the Duke of Edinburgh on this page. I have all his contact details so can you helps me by telling me how we go about getting his authorisation in the manner that you require?

It's not what "I" require, it's to do with guidance - [2] - to ensure that Wikipedia is not caught out by expensive legal claims over copyright. US (Florida) law is pretty strict on this, and all I was suggesting is that the guidance on uploading images should be adhered to. If you think images are safe from deletion, have a look at my own talk page! Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:50, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Percy Thrower

[edit]

Dave, you're doing a great job with the Percy Thrower and Horwood House articles, but any chance you could add your sources, so that other editors can reference them? Thanks ~ Scribble Monkey (talk) 15:58, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well I actaully met him so some is from my own head. The other stuff is from a biography of hims and his own memoirs.Deben Dave (talk) 21:35, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dave, thanks for the references. I've added some formatting to them. If you need any help with adding further references just let me know. ~ Scribble Monkey (talk) 00:27, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing personal, but I've tagged the Percy Thrower article - very few references at present, unencyclopedic style in my view, and if some of the information is based on personal contact it shouldn't really be in there - not verifiable. Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:28, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Hi Dave, the inline references (or footnotes) are added by using the <ref></ref> tags at the appropriate place in the article. The References section then contains a {{Reflist}} or <references/> tag which automatically displays the references. There is a brief explanation here or a slightly longer one here. Let me know if you need any further help. ~ Scribble Monkey (talk) 12:08, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Austin K2/Y Edits

[edit]

Your edits to Austin K2/Y have been edited. The edits are to come into compliance with Style guidelines (i.e. moving the picture from the infobox into the articlespace) and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view (retention of a personal viewpoint made by someone else). Please read these articles to gain a better understanding of why your edits were reverted. --293.xx.xxx.xx (talk) 03:53, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please view other Military Vehicle articles before making your edits again, for example, the infobox at the bottom of the page or Category:Military trucks to see why i'm editing it like so. Your edits are disruptive and do not adhere to the style guidelines.--293.xx.xxx.xx (talk) 19:06, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks ugly and it squashes part of the article so that the text is between both the image and the infobox. Ascetically speaking, thats frowned upon. And learn to sign your posts. --293.xx.xxx.xx (talk) 00:27, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrighted material?

[edit]

You uploaded the following to wikipedia under GFDL, but I'm worried that they shouldn't have been:

It looks like they are out of product manuals or similar documentation. Do you actually own the copyright to this uploaded material, or did you scan it from non-free documentation?

I'm not looking to cause trouble and I greatly appreciate the work you've done with the TXE article, but I just worry that these images could cause a copyright dispute. Gh5046 (talk) 21:54, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is very old material that I had from when I worked on TXE exchanges 40 years ago and extensive research has failed to find f it is copyrighted at all let alone who the owner although it might be JERC which was disbanded as you will see in the article. Thanks for your concern. Deben Dave (talk) 09:09, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BMW E39(5er) Edits

[edit]

Dave, your edits on the BMW 5 Series (E39) page were unencyclopedic and have no place in the article for the following reasons:

  • The contribution was factually incorrect: the BMW E39 uses a Dot Matrix Liquid Crystal Display lit by small florescent bulbs, manufactured by VDO (although it contains Light Emitting Diodes to light up icons such as the seat belt and parking brake indicators, not a LED display)
  • The contribution was about a singular problem, which had little beating on the model line. This is classified as a gripe and Wikipedia articles are not forums for owner gripes (otherwise problems such as pitman arm bearings, rattling sunroofs, malfunctioning seats and backup mirror action, aging transmission synchro issues, etc... would clutter articles).
  • The contribution was not sourced. Where is there reliable, encyclopedic information about BMW USA's replacement program, Europe's lack of a replacement program, or even statistics about failure rates? Original editor research can not be added to Wikipedia articles. "On the internet" and forums are not reliable sources for the purposes or Wikipedia article content addition.

Also, as a matter of courtesy and as I have done, when undoing another editor's edits please include a rationale in the subject line. Nicholas SL Smithchatter 05:15, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dave - I'd like to recognize your professionalism - Thanks, Nicholas SL Smithchatter —Preceding undated comment was added at 21:48, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're right though - It does seem that VDO cluster problems have been fairly pervasive (out of two E39s I've owned, one of them actually did have the problem, but not very badly, and only on the engine computer display/radio). I'm looking for sources or news articles that we can use - I bet something is out there - Nicholas SL Smithchatter 21:55, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:GPO 746 Green Telephone with on off button inside.JPG, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:GPO 746 Green Telephone with on off button inside.JPG is a duplicate of an already existing article, category or image.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:GPO 746 Green Telephone with on off button inside.JPG, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. British telephone sockets layout

[edit]

Hi Dave,

I’m writing about the layout of the lede section of British telephone sockets (which article you understandably have an interest in – thanks for all your work!); you recently moved the image in the lede

  • from “floating on the right”
  • to “centered below the lede”.

I’ve reverted this, as to my eyes it disrupts the flow, and isn’t standard layout (which is “floating on the right”, as one sees in many pages). (Standard is somewhat described in Wikipedia:Lead section, specifically Wikipedia:Lead section#Elements of the lead.)

Are you ok with this?

If not, perhaps we can discuss this.

If so, sorry for the disruption, and look forward to future collaboration!

(BTW, I’ve just edited demarcation point so that it’s not so US/Canada-centric, and discusses UK demarcation – I’m not terribly familiar with this, so assistance is quite welcome!)

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Silton-Bookman Systems. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Proposed deletion of Registrar Training Administration Software

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Registrar Training Administration Software, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Non-notable software. Parent company A7 speedy deleted.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. You seem to be unfamiliar with Wikipedia (and other encyclopedia) requirements for sourcing on articles. I suggest that you read the Wikipedia policy on verifiability and the guideline on reliable sources. You cannot source a Wikipedia article from your memory, what other people have told you, etc. Facts in a Wikipedia article must be cited to a reliable source. This is particularly true for claims, such as being first, or being better, recognized, etc. Things like number of installations need a source, or the claim should be omitted.

You say on the article talk page that there are no sources, but that's simply not true. A simple Google search turns up quite a few pages which may have the citations you need.

In any case, please do not simply remove tags. They are not directed specifically at you but at the whole Wikipedia community. Someone else my have the needed citation if you don't, but they won't know it's needed unless you leave the tag on. You do not own the article. Another Wikipedia editor may tag it, add to it, or even remove any claims they feel are unsupportable. The article could grow or it could end up being reduced to a single paragraph if no sourcing is found for most of the material. You agreed to this when you created the article. Yworo (talk) 13:23, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

[edit]

You'll want the leave the categorization to experts. Take a look at Category:Silicon Valley and see what's in it. Not software. If there was an article on SBS, it might go into a category called something like Category:Defunct companies based in California. But the Registrar (software) article doesn't belong in either, because it is not a company, it's a piece of software. Yworo (talk) 00:25, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on TapToTalk requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. GorillaWarfare talk 20:29, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the page to User:Deben Dave/TapToTalk, where you may work on developing it. The user who tagged this didn't tag it correctly, but he was right that the article currently is not ready to be in article space and might be deleted as advertising if it remains there. Once you feel the article meets the notability guidelines, you may try moving it back. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 02:07, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:TapToTalk2.JPG

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:TapToTalk2.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:23, 6 November 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 19:23, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article TapToTalk has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Software with no indication of notability; Google search turns up no significant coverage in reliable sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

"Lipmann Kessel"

[edit]

I see that you worked on the article on this fellow, which I have just moved/redirected to "Alexander Lipmann-Kessel" -- which I believe, without certainty, to be his correct name. Did you happen to know this guy, by chance? His name seems to be a bit of a mystery -- my speculation is that the "long" name is correct and the "short" name may result from his having abandoned the "Alexander" late in life on some books he wrote, but the situation isn't clear. Dear Dave: Regarding the TXE article, I'd first like to congratulate you on your excellent work in documenting the topic. It really is an excellent article, and I like it immensely, and found it most interesting. I do somewhat regret, however, your removal of the cleanup tags from the article that I added (regarding the two main article issues, a lack of inline citations and excessive detail). In addition, you also reinstated the Acknowledgements section that was present in the article that I had removed. I'd like to discuss these points with you, if I may:

  • Acknowledgement sections are not appropriate for an encyclopaedia project such as Wikipedia, in the sense of acknowledging article contributors. Wikipedia contributors, nor those who have advised them, are not acknowledged for their work in contributing to the article; all articles are collaborative efforts. If, alternatively, the individuals named are sources of content for the article on the TXE system, they must be properly cited as to where that information was published, in what format, and other bibliographic details. For more on how to do this properly if people are primary or secondary sources of information, and not article contributions such as photographs or copywriting, I would like to draw your attention to Wikipedia:Citing sources on how to do this. Please note that if that information they have contributed is not published in a reliable source, this is classed as original research and is not appropriate for Wikipedia; please see Wikipedia:No original research for more information on why this is Wikipedia policy and how to tell the difference between types of sources. Statements that are either not referenced at all or are not referenced to a reliable source published externally to Wikipedia, in the sense that WP:RS defines it, must sadly be removed as original research or unreliably sourced material.
  • References on Wikipedia must be directly attributed to the text that the information is from. Wikipedia:Inline citations gives more information on how to do this. I understand the volume of text in the TXE article makes this an extremely difficult endeavour; therefore, I tagged the article as needing work in this area so that other individuals can assist in the research process of documenting the explicit sources for each factual element, as the page thus gets added to the appropriate cleanup category.
  • Granularity out of proportion to relevance is a serious issue also (for which I will not go into the guidelines; WP:MOS et cetera likely contain all you can stand). The style and depth of detail of the article, as it stands, is comprehensive and interesting, but would be more appropriate to a book on the subject rather than encyclopaedia article. The article needs, as good articles on Wikipedia do, to be correctly geared to Wikipedia's target audience. This means that the very explicit technical detail in the article may need toning down a shade, and the style be brought more in line with other articles on Wikipedia.

I fear, a shade, that you may have developed the article as an island unto itself rather distanced, perhaps, from the general method of writing employed in Wikipedia. I would like to invite you to have a look at some of the featured articles elsewhere on Wikipedia as a guide for the style and approach, and how sources must be correctly referenced. I would also like to invite you to reinstate the two cleanup tags and (re) remove the inappropriate acknowledgements section, drawing your attention to the notion that Wikipedia articles are not owned by those editors who have invested the most time on them, and external editing and criticism are not only to be expected but are an intrinsic part of our editing process.

Once again, thank you for your hard work and application of your indepth expertise in developing an excellent article, albeit one that will be more excellent with editing. I place myself, as all "janitors" of Wikipedia do, at your service. I look forward to working with you on this. --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) 01:47, 27 October 2010 (UTC) Corrected --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) 01:55, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As I observe this is an issue which other editors have raised with you on multiple occasions (above), I have rolled back your edit removing the tags and reinserting the "acknowledgements". I trust you will discuss this with me before you repeat your reversion. --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) 01:55, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dave: Please do not simply revert the addition of cleanup tags to Wikipedia articles, nor revert the removal of unsourced original research; instead, please discuss the issues with the article on the article's talk page. Contributions to Wikipedia are made on the understanding that it will be edited by others. With regard to your edit summary, you must understand that it does not matter how well you know about TXE exchanges; what counts is the verifiability, sourcing and appropriateness of article content. Wikipedia does not accept unsourced content on the basis of editor expertise or credentials. Please do not act as if you own the TXE article by reverting changes by others without rationale; should you continue to do so, you may be subject to administrative enforcement and may potentially be briefly blocked from editing Wikipedia. --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) 21:30, 31 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ownership behaviour on TXE

[edit]

Please stop assuming ownership of articles. Doing so may lead to disruptive behavior such as edit wars and is a violation of policy, which may lead to your being blocked from editing Wikipedia. --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) 02:18, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I respectfully disagree with your comments about unsourced content the information I have given is based on my professional involvement at the centre of the project whilst working for GPO/BT from 1966 until 1986. So I cannot give comprehensive sourcing but then again non of it is hearsay either. Any part of my input that not referenced is based on my own personal experience at the very centre of the TXE development team. Deben Dave (talk) 16:36, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Dave: Thanks so much for replying to me, at least; I'm grateful for you talking. I do, of course, understand that you have a wealth of personal experience in this subject and indeed, I don't actually doubt that the sourceless information is probably correct. Unfortunately, however, Wikipedia doesn't publish information based on personal experience -- this is, in fact, the definition of original research, as Wikipedia:No original research talks about. It's regretful, but we can't actually accept information just on the basis of your experience. This is non-negotiable Wikipedia policy, as Wikipedia is a so called "tertiary source" -- all material must come from referenced sources. Please read the following for more information:
Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:Citing sources, Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not
Thankfully I fully suspect that the actual technical detail about TXE actually can be sourced as it is reasonably well discussed. It may well be that the material you have added to Wikipedia that can't be sourced might have a better home outside of Wikipedia. This is why the tags need to go there, as other editors who work on cleanup can then hunt down sources with which to reference the claims.
Now, as for the Acknowledgements section -- please understand that whilst I appreciate your desire to thank and recognise your collaborators, Wikipedia does not credit article contributors, but it does cite sources. It can't stay there, as personal content on Wikipedia pages is considered vanity publication. You simply cannot have it in the article. I'm sorry if you think I'm being a "jobsworth" by insisting on this, Dave, and please be assured that I am neither the only administrator to be accused as such. The content standards of Wikipedia are what they are, until such a time as the community decides to modify them by consensus. Neither of us can overrule community standards.
Finally, and most importantly; please do not revert the removal of content that does not adhere to Wikipedia policies. I really do not want to be heavy handed with you, Dave, as I know you are a committed and valuable editor who has indepth personal knowledge of your topic. You must understand that Wikipedia does not accept information on the basis on its contribution by experts. However, reinsertion of inappropriate content is considered disruptive editing, as discussed in Wikipedia:Ownership of articles. The reinsertion of your personal acknowledgements and the unsourceable material has once again been reverted. Please don't simply reinsert it, as you will be blocked for disruptive editing if you continue. Let's keep talking instead, as I'm very happy to discuss this with you and explain anything you need me to. --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) 19:03, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problems

[edit]

Thanks for uploading the files listed below. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license them under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Gracious sakes; this is alarming. Yes, Wikipedia has rules, and rules are to be followed, but I hope this article and its pictures can find a way to survive within the rules. Jim.henderson (talk) 16:06, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've done some work to help you with the above

[edit]

Dear Dave: I think it would be really, really sad for all of these great, historically-valuable images to be deleted from Wikipedia (as listed above). I totally take onboard what you say about people being more willing to simply tag things than assist with article work. I also believe you have genuinely received permission from the image contributors for these images, but the sad problem is that we do not have any evidence on Wikipedia of this other than your word. Therefore, I've gone the extra mile in this case, and have cross-referenced a list of the above images with copyright problem by their named contributor, so we can work together to stop them being deleted. It has taken me quite a lot of work to do this.

This means you can:

  • Write a "round robin" email addressed to all of the following names:
  • BT Archives, Mick Gallagher, Christopher White, Andy Knott, Harvey Berry, John Vickers, Ken Coulson, Graham Bonson, Peter Eyre, Tom Shiplee.
  • Copy and paste the list of images by contributor, below, into the body of the e-mail.
  • Ask them to reply to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, carbon copying nicholas.turnbull@gmail.com, making the following declaration:
  • I hereby give unconditional permission to the Wikimedia Foundation to use the images listed for any purpose, including relicensing under the GNU Free Documentation License and CC-BY-SA 3.0, unless otherwise specified.

For those contributors who reply to the "round robin" message, the images will not be deleted -- as the list contains which contributors provided which images, and the OTRS team can then tag the appropriate images as having received authenticable permission.

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Floor plan.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. A tag has been placed on File:Horwood House1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Ian Hawkins has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable author

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
