Criticism section on Democrats Abroad 2008 entry

Hi! We inserted information on the 2012 presidential primary, got to looking at the 2008 info and saw piles of info on worries or concerns that did not come to fruition and thought that it was a bit odd to have a massive amount of text about a global organization to have a disproportionate focus on non-issues from 4-1/2 years ago. For example, in "Criticism" there's the part in which it states: "Criticism focused on the internet voting, suggesting the possibility of hacking and other subterfuge, though there was no evidence that such hacking occurred." Fact is that in searching around, there was basically one angry overseas American (Barbara Simon) and her friend (David Dill) who flogged this non-story. There was criticism from one angry person and their friend, and it turned out they were wrong. For an organization that deals on a daily basis with hundreds of thousands, that's a bit out of whack -- truth be told, a big-tent organization like Democrats Abroad has a constant stream of kudos and criticism from all sorts of folks who can be right, wrong or simply suggesting valid alternatives.

More accurate might be: "Criticism came from one person and her friend, wrongly suggesting the possibility of hacking and other subterfuge, though there was no evidence that such hacking occurred."

The next problem is at "Alleged corporate and partisan influence" where we get again to David Dill (Barbara Simon's friend). First we have one guy suggesting completely falsely that there was "little oversight". Democrats Abroad has to comply with all sorts of primary voting and election rules, including the very strict party rules for accessibility, equality, notice, etc. The basic allegation is that Democrats Abroad should have paid massive amounts of money to hire software programmers to provide a custom-made solution, when there was an opportunity for Democrats Abroad to share the cost for the development with one of the U.S. states. The argument that the service provider did anything to influence the result of the election simply does not hold water.

Furthermore, the allegation that there was Republican political interference made solely because one employee of that software service provider corporation has a Republican political affiliation (somebody named Paul DeGregorio) is, on its face, ridiculous. Can you imagine if every company who had one Democrat employee were, thus, disqualified from ever being able to provide services? The 2008 Global Primary election was run by Democrats Abroad, not by the company and certainly not by one Republican employee. Thousands upon thousands of Americans went to polling stations around the world and did a good thing. But essentially because one upset overseas American and her friend, does the majority of the Democrats Abroad Wikipedia entry has to be about this nonsense?

The section on "Partial results reporting" is also a non-story. There was, in the end, an overwhelming victory for Obama in the Democrats Abroad primary in 2008 and the election is now 4-1/2 years ago. In 2012, there were no such problems. The other absolutely silly sentence is the section "In at least one state, it is a crime to release vote results before the polls have closed." That might be true, but it is not relevant because the election did not take place inside any state -- it happened entirely outside the United States because that's the nature of Democrats Abroad. It is fair to say that it was the first-ever primary held by Americans around the world in 24 different time zones -- the challenges they faced in doing that were extraordinary. When compared against the relative simplicity of having voters in only a state primary deal with one day of voting taking place only within one time zone, having seven paragraphs bemoaning very limited mistakes in a matter involving voting centers around the world seems a bit much.

In my view, it would be more rational and balanced to edit out the overblown stuff and restore it to just a wee bit bigger than the "Presidential Primary of 2004" section. Scarbroughfair (talk) 04:16, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter on Wikipedia whether two people alleging a problem are friends or not. The sources cited for the criticisms are reliable (CNET, Der Spiegel, websites of the groups concerned), although I do think the criticism section needs trimming for WP:DUE weight, re-wording and ultimately merging into the rest of the article per WP:Criticism. I also agree that the sentence about crime needs to go: it's implying that a crime was committed, which is WP:Original research at best, so I've removed that and some other, similar allegations adjacent.

Citations Updated for Dominik Tiefenthaler page, what now?

Dear Darth Sitges

You put a few "citation needed" tags on my page of Dominik Tiefenthaler, and I thank you for that. It's my first page for my first customer, and I want to do it right!

I addressed all the tags, changed them, added one, and removed the ones that were not right or, not easy to see.

My question now: Do I wait for you to check it out and remove the tags, or do I remove the tags of all the instances that I believe are remedied? I don't want to step on anyone's toes and do the right thing...

Hi! Thank you so much for all your help with this page!! I saw that you cleaned it all up! About the two remaining unref tags: 1. I added the imdb tag to clear up the fact that Tiefenthaler was NOT mentioned in The New Yorker article (ref#8). But that article (New Yorker) does mention the Pink Panthers (very beginning of article) and Glassey's involvement in it (three quarters down), so I thought I can keep it in. Let me know if not... 2. I just realized that the Golden Door website doesn't have the 2012 awards up yet...sorry.... They do mention Tiefenthaler's award on their facebook page (falsely as Teifenthaler at http://www.facebook.com/GoldenDoorFest). I believe facebook is not a good citation source, but if that's enough, I'll gladly tag that! If not, I will just have to take the award statement down until their official website has it on theirs, right?

thanks for your reply, I have done it, however, the thumbnail description is highlighted in red... not sure what that means, I would like to point out at one occurence I do not fancy and it´s the search window, if I type the name jana valova (without punctuation Jana Vaľová as it is used in Slovak) no choices pop up as if the article weren´t there at all. Perhaps, I have messed up the redicretion tool or ... :-)

I would appreciate if could help me out for the start, as you surely know it´s hard, having had a negative experience recently creating an article on the Slovak division of wikipedia my beliefs in the free and non-biased wikipedia was shaken to the core. Let me put you in the picture here, I have also written my first article on Slovak wikipedia (about the same person to get the taste of what it is like and learn) as I found out was modified to disparrage the person by adding a short-structured sentence to preface the actual text by adding a reference which is however relevant as the politician was involved in (beauty and cosmetic bsiness as a freelance), but it in fact subjects the person to ridicule as it´s deliberately embeded in a way insensitive and irrelevant to the factual, biographical nature, tone and style in which it is written. I have written to the administrator, however came up short, no hel provided at all as they seemed politaclly biased. Is there any legitmate way to fix this issue as it really hampers the reputability of this article and so me as an author. Some of them eve activated the "rollback" tool to disable me to revert its solid form and structure. What do you think I should do, are there any senior administrators to revise and listen to what I have to say ??? From Slovak senior members I only got sarcastic answer stating "here you are, enjoy" as thy were there to teach me a "lesson"
