Hi Dark Shikari! I thought you might want to know that Serial Experiments Lain is going through FAC. Could you please take a few minutes to give some impulse? Thanks in advance.--SidiLemine 12:34, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Just letting you know that Serial Experiments Lain is up at FAC again. I was hoping you could participate as your remarks proved very useful in the last one. Happy holydays!--SidiLemine 12:17, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AWB typo fixes in references

[edit]

This edit to DNA repair introduced a misspelling in the name of reference author, and changed the case of a ref label. Not a big problem, but be careful when fixing 'typos' in references, as wrongly spelled names can make them difficult to look up later. Thanks. Opabinia regalis 00:45, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gliding

[edit]

The Wikipedia convention is that articles on British topics use British spelling and American topics use American spellings. If, like gliding there is no nationality to the subject, the creator of the article sets the dictionary that is used. In the case of gliding, sadly the Americans got in first. JMcC 00:49, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When you AWB'd the two categories out of this userbox, your edit brought the wikitable close code (|}) up into the same line, that broke many userpages because the userbox essentially became a background in itself. That code needs to be on its own line. I fixed it, but I thought I'd let you know. • master_sonLets talk 02:26, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That actually looks like a bug with AutoWikiBrowser. I will bring it up on the talk page. — Dark Shikari talk/contribs 02:50, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The KLF recategorisation

[edit]

I don't think I've ever had so many articles on my watchlist hit by a single editor in a day! ;) (I understand it was per-CFD, this is meant to be a light-hearted observation not a complaint :)) --kingboyk 13:43, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Colour names

[edit]

After putting on the colour, I can no longer click on my name to redirect to my user page. Can you tell me the source code? I tried the "a href" html code but doesnt work. OhanaUnited 03:20, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Dark Shikari is a fa*** Wonderfull guy

[edit]

Hello Dark Shikari. You don't mind if I clear a litle vandalism in your user pages ;) -- Esurnir 15:26, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks! The sad thing is I know exactly who was vandalizing my page >_>... off Wikipedia. He was banned from EVE Online too. —Dark•Shikari[T] 17:32, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Don't worth a good ol Ginger flam, at least they are fun *sigh*. Perhaps I should give him your talk page URL :p . By the way, do you got idea about how to improve the Eve Online webpage, to get it at least to A class (or even FA, but A class would be cool) ? Now that I saw HL2 on main page I think that improving Eve Online article to that grade is possible ^_^ -- Esurnir 21:43, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. More wikilinks.
  2. Less obvious unsourced POV, e.g.
EVE Online has a great deal in common with Earth & Beyond, since E&B was the first "Space Opera MMORPG" to hit the commercial
market and EVE was the second (although EVE enjoyed much more prosperity than its predecessor). If E&B were to be revived or
cloned, then it would be the sole competitor of EVE (there are currently no major space-based MMOs other than EVE).

Signature

[edit]

Dark, I noticed that on the Village Pump you were working on a new signature. I had a spare moment, so I worked on a new one for you, if you wold like to use it.

Dark Shikari / talk

It has many of the qualities of the original signature, but weighs in at only 183 characters.

Enjoy! W. Flake (talk) 01:26, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I saw you had a new signature but figured I'd give you a different possibility. Thanks for your time. W. Flake (talk) 02:09, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hey Dark Shikari

[edit]

please stop posting things and make your sig smaller on eve-o :( Jtrainor 11:16, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My sig's the same size as everyone else's... if you want to complain, complain to CCP :) —Dark•Shikari[T] 11:19, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AWB: United Kingdom

[edit]

I'm not sure that "s/united kingdom/United Kingdom/" is entirely safe for AWB-ing. I can imagine lots of circumstances where the phrase wouldn't be referring to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. There was one in Edwin of Northumbria. Not a big deal though. Cheers! Angus McLellan (Talk) 23:21, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A flying visit

[edit]

Just saying hello. I spend too much time here and noticed your name in the EVE edit details, great job you guys are doing, but like someone else commented, the HL2 page is T2 compared to the Eve page. I guess Eve players are used to facts, figures and functionality over fragging and frivolry.

Regarding the Eve Online dev controversy

[edit]

Hi. I've edited the Eve Online article's Dev Misconduct section, to be in-line with what is currently known. In the interest of full disclosure: my in-game character is Cyrus Ildemar, and I am in GoonSwarm, which is hostile to the alliance implicated in this business. Unless I'm mistaken you are in Firmus Ixion, which is friendly to that alliance. I hope our disparate biases will cancel out and we can work together on this. :) --Ashenai 14:29, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From the second source: "A pivotal case was uncovered last summer during a routine investigation of developer accounts. Unfortunately CCP did not act with the same decisive consistency we have used on previous occasions."
In itself, this is very vague, but Kieron's response to the controversy thread [1] confirms that this is what it's talking about. --Ashenai 16:32, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, but note that such an action is standard operating procedure for any company of this type; they don't want to cause a massive ruckus, and since
We do not have any proof showing the members of Reikoku (other than t20) had any knowledge that these BPs
were illegally gained. We cannot punish players for innocently using items they thought were legal.
they did not want to put the blame on the alliance, as they had no responsibility in the matter. —Dark•Shikari[T] 16:40, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with this, but I'm not sure what you're trying to say. My edit to the article doesn't say or imply that the alliance was at fault. Just that CCP knew about the dev power abuse 6 months before they admitted it.
Oh wait, I think I might see the problem; my use of "they" might be a bit ambiguous. I meant that CCP knew about the misconduct, not that the alliance knew. If you think it's an issue, feel free to rephrase it so that this is clear. --Ashenai 16:49, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Should be fine, though we're really editing a bit early here; more information is likely to come out that will change the situation over the next few days. —Dark•Shikari[T] 16:52, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Azumanga Daioh Userbox

[edit]

Just wanted to say thanks for the userbox. I have it on my page...somewhere....NinjaPirates!!!

[edit]

Thanks for doing my request on the talk page! Besides, I also have the DVDs too (you know, the Class Album set, though it's the thin-DVD-box version, and actually, they're my older sister's). The only reason I asked for the request was that I was expecting someone to have the anime on their computer or something... I wasn't expecting for someone to also have the DVDs too. Also, I do not have a DVD rom drive so I can't just do that.

Also: I made a counterpoint of your userbox. Emphasis on the counter, but not too emphasizing as to hate it - I have to hold it off! I've got other stuff on my mind, and Chiyo Mihama's pigtails is not really what I'm into right now... --Definitely went crazy, Addict 2006 22:38, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox help

[edit]

Since you seem to have a good level of skill coding Wikipedia, can you help me with a userbox I want to make? I tried it myself, but the link that should have shown up like this, but looked like what you would type to get the link. Sorry, I just have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to code. I just add it to things. I don't go trying to meddle with it myself. Kalga-han

  • You want the time and stuff too? Okay then. Anyway, what do you mean where? It's not anywhere. It isn't working, so I didn't find a reason to put it on my userbox page. Kalga-han 23:42, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Revert" comment

[edit]

I'm a bit put out by being accused of doing something that I didn't do. I know you meant no malice by it, but your edit summary was misleading and unnecessary, I thought. Whatever the diff comparisons show (and yes, I've looked at them) do not reveal it to be my fault. An experienced editor of good standing would not delete swathes of content even accidentally, unless there was some glitch in the server. It's impossible to do that without realising it. Possibly, it was related to whatever was making the Back to Top link appear and disappear repeatedly - I'm not sure. Anyway, please don't think that I'm complaining to you, 'cause I'm not really; I just wanted to straighten it out. Regards, Adrian M. H. 17:48, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was hoping that you might appreciate that I did not delete content. To do that, I would have had to open the entire page from the top edit link, delete a load of content (and how do you do that accidentally??!!), then save it. Instead, I used the plus sign to add a new question, which brought up the empty box with the heading field (of course), into which I typed my title and question. I object to your mentioning my name at all, since it was not necessary and gives the false impression that I was either incredibly careless (which could only have happened by editing the whole page) or malicious. And anyone who is familiar with my work knows that I am neither careless nor malicious. You assumed good faith, which is great and all that, but you made me look bad. Adrian M. H. 18:17, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Uh, what? What are you talking about? I just said that you accidentally reverted the content, which is quite possible without selecting it all and hitting the delete key. You could have easily accidentally opened an old revision and added to that instead, which would have caused the same effect. You're going way over the top on this one. Please don't forget about civility, and don't act as if everyone is out to get you. —Dark•Shikari[T] 18:22, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm not here to be uncivil or anything, so please do not misinterpret me. But I can assure you that I didn't open an old diff either. You insist on suggesting that it was down to some error on my part, when it was not, so some civility in return would be welcome. It would just have been nicer if you had phrased your summary differently, or take me at my word (AGF?). Adrian M. H. 18:28, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was saying that I did not do it at all, even accidentally, which you won't acknowledge for some reason. I have no influence over glitches, or whatever it was. You could just acknowledge that, rather than insulting my attempt to talk about it with you. If you cannot understand my point of view, then I give up. End of discussion. Adrian M. H. 22:12, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Um dude, the diff says you did it. That is not mutually exclusive with a software bug. I'm not sure where the heck you're going with this, but you really, really need to reread the personal attack guidelines here. —Dark•Shikari[T] 10:25, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dark Shikari.

Thanks for your reply to my "Roy Wood" query. How do I turn a link into a redlink or find out how to create a disambiguation page?

Regards. Linus. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Linus 337 (talkcontribs) 22:06, 21 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Well if you wanted the link to be red, change it to something like [[Roy Wood (musician)|Roy Wood]]. For disambiguation, see WP:DAB. —Dark•Shikari[T] 15:25, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Be careful with AWB typo fixes

[edit]

You fixed a couple instances of "beastiality" on Zoophilia; however, they were misspelled intentionally ("often misspelled as..."). Check your automated edits before committing them! Zetawoof(ζ) 02:52, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This edit to Lucia di Lammermoor introduced a misspelling into the title of the referenced aria, improperly changing the Italian word "momento" to the English word "memento". Please be careful when fixing 'typos' to lyrics of opera in foreign languages. Thanks. Nickbigd 11 May 2007

  • Oops. There really should be a line in AWB telling you what typos are being fixed rather than having to look through the whole article hoping you don't miss anything. —Dark•Shikari[T] 18:33, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, foreign-language text that uses the {{lang}} template will be properly ignored by AWB. So in this case, "momento" could be updated to {{lang|it|momento}} or {{lang|it|''momento''}}. -- JHunterJ 14:35, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Typo false positives

[edit]

Hi, Dark Shikari. You mentioned that the previous rule for "(Be/For)Gotten, Rotten" (find="\b([GgRr]|[Ff]org|[Bb]eg)o(t|ttt)en\b" replace="$1otten") generated a large number of false positives. Do you have an example? I might try to figure out how to improve the regexp. Thanks, JHunterJ 14:31, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I went through about 9000 articles doing spell-check with AWB. I kept getting loads of false positives "Goten"->"Gotten", which was in every single Dragonball Z-related article. I don't think I ever saw a single valid correction by that regex, so I removed it, but if you can fix it that would be even better. —Dark•Shikari[T] 14:49, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed it by removing the first capital G; it will ignore Goten, but still catch goten, roten, Roten, etc., etc. Thanks for the example; people really should at least do a WP search before adding typos to AWB; searching on "goten" would have alerted the original regexp writer to its use.... Oh, well, better now. -- JHunterJ 15:40, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding...

[edit]

...this edit: thank you for removing the excess bold markings on the years. However, "vilain" was in fact the correct spelling (rather than "villain") because the word belonged to a French film title. Esn 10:41, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Board Candidacy

[edit]

Hi! I'm leaving you this note because we've had extensive and/or productive interaction over the course of my time on this Wiki. I (yep, little ol' Jouster!) am running for election to the Wikimedia Board of Trustees. I would greatly appreciate it if you would please take a look at my submission of candidacy, and consider endorsing me, as that is a requirement for me to stand for election.

If you have any questions or concerns about this notice, please don't hesitate to poke me on my Talk page. If you object to this solicitation for endorsement, please do not hesitate to remove it from your Talk page with my apologies; it will not appear again.

I look forward to serving you all on the Board!
