On the Bob Nicholas nomination, the nominator has not edited since December 14 and the hook is dull like another editor said. I reviewed the article and it is fine, but I posted a new hook suggestion because of the uninteresting hook. I was wondering if you could take a look. SL93 (talk) 21:44, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Madonna's perfume
In my mind, this rationale is mostly good: it's a rationale for using the design of the bottle in the way that one would use a logo (or the way one would use an album cover, book cover, etc.) — the non-free copyrighted image is used as the primary method of identification. The problem that leads me to tag it for replaceability is that this bottle's design is so simple that someone could take a picture and legitimately release the picture into the public domain or under a free license. If the bottle had a complex enough pictured design that it couldn't be treated as some form of {{PD-ineligible}}, then this would be a 100% valid tag. Nyttend (talk) 01:51, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- That's precisely what I mean — it's treated as a method of identification because of the gold etching. If it were complicated enough that it didn't qualify for PD-ineligible, then this would be a good rationale; as it is, the only reason it's a bad rationale is that it's simple enough to be photographed freely. The only problem with the current image is that the photographer's own rights aren't freely licensed or PD; if you're correct and the uploader adds a self-taken photo with a free license, everything will be great. Images tagged as replaceable get deleted after about two days, so it should be resolved quite soon. Nyttend (talk) 02:02, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Oh. I completely overlooked the fact that it's not yet been released. In that case, it's really not replaceable until April, so I've removed my own RFU tag. I now have no reason to believe that the image should be deleted at the present time. Nyttend (talk) 02:11, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- No, because the primary purpose of having a mascot is not to display a logo. One doesn't really use a mascot image to identify a team in the same way one uses a logo. Clothing really isn't an issue, anyway; Foundation's counsel some time back offered a legal opinion that we need not worry about costumes in a photo when we consider whether that photo is non-free. Nyttend (talk) 02:13, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Cosplay? Nyttend (talk) 02:29, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Huh, I've never heard the term before; I thought you'd made a typo. I can't offer a solid opinion, since I've never heard of it before. Nyttend (talk) 02:37, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds good; I'll do the same. I'm in process of constructing a set of lists on my hard drive; you won't see them in my contributions, because I'll not put them online until they're as close to done as I can make them. Nyttend (talk) 02:48, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

GA review of Saman
Hi,
I have completed the review of Saman at Talk:Saman (novel)/GA1. Please check for any copy editing errors I may have made. Very interesting article that opened up the world of Indonesian fiction to me. Best, MathewTownsend (talk) 00:21, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

- I added some remaining problems at Talk:Saman (novel)/GA1. MathewTownsend (talk) 15:52, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
- Take your time. What you added looks good. MathewTownsend (talk) 01:50, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
- I think you fixed the problem for the most part. I've commented on two remaining issues at Talk:Saman (novel)/GA1. Best, MathewTownsend (talk) 20:32, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
- I fell very bad that I can't express to you what the article needs. Would you mind if I changes some things to how I think it should be, and you can veto my changes? It this point I a pretty familiar with most of the material. Regards, MathewTownsend (talk) 00:53, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
- I'm going to pass Saman. I changed it a little but feel free to change it back. I tried to explain things a little more, like was was meant by "supernatural" but etc. but I'm too tired! Anyway, it's a very interesting article. Best wishes, MathewTownsend (talk) 17:44, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

- Hi, I'd suggest that you leave Taksen to it, and we clean up afterwards. For example, if you suspect a certain source may not be reliable, leave it in but raise a query at WP:RS/N. Your caution may be prudent, but he seems a little sensitive, or maybe it's a language barrier issue. I'd like to keep him on side and I think we might need to cut Taksen some breathing space. Orlady (talk) 20:48, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
- I noticed only now, that you were not happy with the wording. Defending my suggestion (it was not more than that, then someone took it): The repeated name is the very name in both articles (I try to stay close if at all possible), is short (enough), can take double emphasis as a foreign name, and needed pictured to be added, which would have been cumbersome within the quote which was complicated enough because of the quote within the quote. Happy New Year! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:11, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- Fair enough (and no hard feelings, don't worry). I personally do my best to avoid using too many foreign language names in the hooks... they tend to not do very well, methinks. Happy new year to you too! (Only 3 hours left here). Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:53, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- Plenty of foreign names in my latest personal memories, but also pictures, if you are interested, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:03, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
- Perhaps, and I have numerous myself, despite an effort to do occasional hooks that aren't related to Indonesia. Now, if the person's name is Martha Christina Tiahahu (not a bad article btw), that's generally not a big problem. But with a name like Moeljatno... only a Dutch speaker (German too?) or someone familiar with old Indonesian speaker would know how to pronounce it; English doesn't have the oe = U or j = y. Those sorts of articles... not easy. Crisco 1492 (talk) 14:22, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Lovely page, well-judged idea. The two graphs are very nicely designed (except that the axis legends are too small to read—I'd double the size of the y-axis text and put the months vertically and double the size ... but that's a lot of work, so no big deal). When I got to "Despite this large increase in featured content", I had to ponder what it meant, since there's no data on last year's promotions; then I realised you meant in terms of the additions to total existing content (again, no feeling for whether it was an 11% increase overall, or what). My feeling is that the rate of promotions, especially of articles and lists, has been going down significantly.
Feature-lutions"—I stared at it and didn't get it. When I returned to it, I worked it out. It's a bit abstruse, I think. You might consider "Stats for the year" as a reader-attractor, even if it lacks pizzazz.
"the systemic bias pervades every featured content process"—a reader might say, "it is the English WP, so why wouldn't there be an English-language bias". Is the bias even more pronounced for featured content than general content, do you think? Tony (talk) 05:39, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

The article has the basic premise of the show. SL93 (talk) 02:30, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
- I'm glad that I could find this article to create. For a show that received significant coverage in 2007 and 2008 and ended in 2008, it's surprising that the article didn't exist. Better late then never. SL93 (talk) 15:17, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Second opinion
- Template:Did_you_know_nominations/Murphy_Complex_Fire. Pls look at this. Close as you see fit. Yea the image is not the best but that's not a reason to not approve the hook. GEEZ! And they wonder why so many people leave wiki. Tks. PumpkinSky talk 10:57, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- Just noticed that you'd already commented there. Thanks for helping. Still needs closed though.PumpkinSky talk 11:04, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- LoL, I've left a comment there already. It would also work if you just removed the image from the nomination page, then he would have no reason to hold back the tick. Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:19, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
- No way. I will not kowtow to this [redacted]. It would also work if he'd not twist something into his own personal view contrary to community standards. I don't care if it never becomes a DYK. PumpkinSky talk 11:01, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
- Fair enough, aside from the comment I redacted. Jez is used to FAC and GAN, which both have completely different cultures than DYK. Crisco 1492 (talk) 11:41, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
