You voted for Rum Rebellion. It has been selected as the new Australian Collaboration. Please help to improve the article. Thanks. Scott Davis Talk 12:30, 19 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They've started changing my password as well. How long have you been putting up with this?--Shanel 05:01, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was first hit on 19 March, when they changed my password 20 times. Then again today with another 20 attempts. It appears that being blocked doesn't stop one from partaking in this kind of disruption. Cnwb 05:05, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

David Mitchell

[edit]

I can see you have been working on articles such as Robbie Muir, Making Losers Happy, and Xpressway, which mention someone called David Mitchell. David Mitchell is a disambiguation page, and I have been trying to sort out the links to it. Can you tell me what would be a good distinguishing description? Should he be David Mitchell (musician) or can you be more specific? Thank you. CarolGray 19:26, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

David Mitchell (musician) would be perfect. Thanks. Cnwb 21:49, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Can you please increase the block time of 203.217.8.30? It seems to come back almost as soon as the blocks expire. There are zero useful edits from the IP and it has attempted to get multiple users passwords. JoshuaZ 23:47, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have extended the block to 1 week. Has s/he been attempting to change your password too? Cnwb 23:52, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, I was referring to in the block log, he has attempted to do the same for Jossi and Shanel. JoshuaZ 23:55, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I apparently spoke too soon. He has apparently tried to change mine as well. (about 120 attempts or so). JoshuaZ 01:43, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

list of noise musicians!

[edit]

Hi

Why do you remove the artists I add to the list of noise musicians? I'm curious to know. thanks, ~ Gudnason 11:06, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for your enquiry. I removed some of the artists from the List of noise musicians because many of them were (what wikipedia refers to as) non-notable. If you have a look at WP:MUSIC you can see what is generally considered the criteria for inclusion in Wikipedia. If you believe the artists you added (none of which, by the way, had their own articles yet) are notable enough, please create an article for each which explains how they are notable. The list of noise musicians has suffered a spate of non-notable additions lately, and myself and other editors have been making a concerted effort to keep an eye on this. [edit]

I admit the site isn't very large, so it's relatively negligable. Note that I'm not at all affiliated with the site so it wasn't personal advertising. As for whether or not it should be deleted, that's your call. I just read somewhere that people noticed it as a precursor to Digg, and the style and content seem to suggest so.

Mwastrod 17:50, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it's everyone's call. The way 'prod' tags work is this - a user can tag an article which they believe should be deleted, if they believe most Wikipedians would agree (see Wikipedia:Proposed deletion for further explanation). If someone believes that it shouldn't be deleted (such as yourself), then the article can be sent to 'AFD' (Articles for Deletion), where users debate whether articles stay or not. If you believe the article should stay, you are quite entitled to remove the prod tag, although it's usually likely that someone will send the article to AFD for a wider debate. Hope this helps. Cnwb, I listed your speedy deletion of Vaginafaceitis on DRV. I know it was a dumb article and hoax, but unfortunately we don't have a speedy deletion criterion for that. G1 is only for "incoherent" articles, which (again, unfortunately) Vaginafaceitis is not. =( I thought I should let you know so you can weigh in on the DRV discussion. Thanks! I was about to prod this article for not living up to the usual notability guidelines for band inclusion, until I saw it was you that started the stub. Therefore, I have refrained from doing so due to your esteemed reputation on the 'pedia. However, when you get a chance, can you expand the article a bit. Article 'Telectronics'

Yes, the Discussion page is a "mess". The party declines to register, dos not sign his posts and continually changes his IP address. Under these circumstances could Arbitration achieve anything ? Hi Cnwb. The message in the first posting above is as intended. " The party declines to register, does not sign his posts and continually changes his IP address. Under these circumstances could Arbitration achieve anything ? A 'without prejudice opinion' would be appreciated." ( have just finished an initial article Bernard Lown, wish to be a useful contributor but please accept that at age 72 my learning curve re Wikipedia procedures is a bit slow). --Geoffrey Wickham 06:36, 17 July 2006 (UTC).

==Thank you==
Thanks Cnwb; have studied 'requests for arbitration' and come to a tentative conclusion that it is probably an unproductive course. Seems there are only two alternatives for me: Keep on reverting the changes & hope other Wikipedians do the same, or to give up trying to ensure that a little bit of Australian technological history is not perverted. All the best--Geoffrey Wickham 07:07, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Proposed Rail Lines in Melbourne

[edit]

I would love to see some old plans or read any more information you have on the proposed rail lines in melbourne, particularly the east doncaster line. there was one or a few editions of the melways that showed the rail line to east doncaster during the 80's or very late 70's but I can't track down which one it is.

Also, if you have any information on freeways, or the freeway plans for melbourne that were drawn up at any time I'd like to see it.

Perhaps I should have headed that Telecbloodytronics. I want to have closure on all this nonsense. In my last posting (bottom) on Discussion I asked for help. Can you help either directly of by referring me to another Administrator ? regards Geoffrey Wickham 02:52, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your request for help with the Telectronics article. To take on a matter as complex and cumbersome as the Telectronics edit war is beyond my means and abilities. You might want to have a look at Wikipedia:Resolving disputes, which points to numerous avenues for resolving disputes. Hope this helps. Cnwb 00:28, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Comfy Chair

[edit]

Oops. I have only been a Brunswickian for about two years. Well, I was correct, it's not in Brunswick at least. ;) I just associated Lygon St with all things Carlton.

So is there an official demarcation between Brunswick and Brunswick West? The railway line? I suspect I live in Brunswick West, although I'm closer to Sydney Road than Lygon is...

cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 07:08, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi all, as a local East Brunswickian, comfy chair regular, and devotee of all things geographic, I can tell you that the suburb boundary between Brunswick and Brunswick East is actually the back fences of the properties on the western side of Lygon Street, rather than the middle of the street. That is - any property that has a Lygon Street address is in Brunswick East. Hope this helps. Mustard Pot 00:45, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Andrew, the information I removed was not done on a "random basis". I brought the issue up on the article's talk page, and invited discussion about it. Central Hall

[edit]

Hi Cnwb,
Yeah, my article did indeed come about as a result of celebrating the centenary year. I spent the last semester of my undergrad doing a 'special' unit dedicated to writing a 6,000 word essay on Central Hall. Parts of the article were used by ACU for an event at the hall in 2004, but it was never published in booklet form as originally planned. I've been in contact with people at ACU just last week, and it seems likely that it will be submitted to an Australian Catholic journal next year. Rob Lindsey 02:44, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone trying to hijack WikiProject Gender Studies...

[edit]

An anonymous user has edited Wikipedia:WikiProject_Gender_Studies and has edited its aims so that it reads (the following quote is taken from the talk page):

* Correct articles where the term 'gender' is overused, used incorrectly, or used pejoratively to pander to (what Christina Hoff-Sommers, Wendy McElroy and other more moderate feminists call) a "gender-feminist" POV.

  • Correct articles where the term "gender" is used (without reference to NPOV dictionaries and other NPOV sources) to replace the term 'sex' as a ploy to pander to "gender"-feminist POV. Correct the usages so that the proper definition is used without regard to UNTESTED and often invalid 'gender theories', so distinctions can be made between 'gender' and 'sex', and so that the usage reflects some sort of NPOV take on a highly loaded term. Just because some widely criticized academic fields have used totalitarian tactics to force 'gender' and censor the usage of 'sex', in US humanities programs is no indication of the validity of this politically-loaded term. Consult NPOV sources such as dictionaries, opponents of "gender"-feminists and NPOV mass media sources to balance 'gender' POV with 'sex' POV.
  • Correct articles where the term 'gender' is being used gynocentrically as a front for 'oppression'-feminist political, legal or cultural power plays. For example, in feminism (Status) there is no mention that for the male 'gender', military mortality is 98% compared to 2% for the female 'gender' (in Iraq)...but other forms of far less serious female "gender" oppression are implicated (covertly and most disengenously) as having something to do with the gender "oppression" of women. This kind of blatant, gynocentric "gender" bias is no less POV than the other forms listed here.

Said user has further edited the talk page suggesting that (the following quote is taken from the talk page):

I suspect this project was created to pander to the points of view of misandric, gender-ginning, 'patriarchal oppression' feminists (please see Women's studies, misandry and feminism ) who use the term 'gender' as a cunning, covert, and blatantly gynocentric weapon of war. Many other more moderate feminists and non-feminists have challenged these blatantly gynocentric, and often misandric "gender feminist" ideologies. I insist on a non-sexist, non-'genderist', non-reverse sexist project...otherwise this project is just the usual type of cunning totalitarian tactic we see so much in other politically correct channels. To revert the above content just because none of the orginal authors of this project page like it is a POV stunt to have ones cake and eat it too. I am going to reinsert the content. I insist that before it is reverted again good NPOV reasons be provided. My aim here is some kind of GENUINE non-sexist, non-reverse sexist, and non-'genderist' NPOV...as may be shown well in Sexism (drop in editor) 00:37, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

The idea that the term gender (that is, the idea that at least some of the differences between the roles of men and women in society) is socially constructed, yet 'sex' (i.e. that any differences between men and women are essentially biological), at the very least, looks like misogyny|misoginist]] POV bias of the worst kind. Any assistance arguing against the point would be greatly appreciated.

Fifth Melbourne meetup

[edit]

The fifth meetup of Melbourne Wikipedians is being planned as a breakfast meeting in the city with Jimbo Wales (at a venue to be arranged) on Friday, 27 April 2007.

Jimbo has proposed breakfast as the one real window of opportunity during his tightly scheduled stay in Melbourne. Tbe precise time has to be sorted out with Jimbo, but the arrangements for the equivalent Adelaide meetup a few days before may give a good idea.

Feel free to edit the relevant page in any way that might be helpful. I feel like a bit of an interloper, not having attended previous meetups. If there's anything you can do to help, I'll be grateful. Please think about whether you'll be able to make it, assuming the arrangements are similar to those Adelaide is adopting (i.e. a block of time with people being fairly free to arrive when it suits them). Some indication on the page of your possible participation would be really helpful. Metamagician3000 06:14, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brunswick Market

[edit]

Hi Cnwb I saw your article on Brunswick, which included a photo and potted history of Brunswick market, I now live in that building and would like to update the entry a bit.

Brunswick Market. The former Brunswick Market opened on 19 September 1930, as an attempt to stop the drift of locals towards Queen Victoria Market. The complex contained Melbourne's alleged first self-serve grocer. THE MARKET IS UNIQUE MELBOURNE EXAMPLE OF SPANISH MISSION STYLE, BUILD AROUND TWO AIRCRAFT HANGERS (BELFRAST TRUSS STYLE BOUGHT FROM THE RAF), The market failed to lure customers from nearby Sydney Road and the Queen Victoria Market, and was handed over to a liquidator in 1933. The building was subsequently used as a storage facility for the Red Cross, THEN BECAME A BOX FACTORY, UNTIL 1997 WHEN THE BUILDING WAS SUBDIVED INTO APPARTMENTS, ALTHOUGH HAFT THE BUILDING REMAINS INTACT TO SHOW THE BELFAST TRUSSES INTACT . The architecture, designed by local architect I. G. Anderson, is of the Spanish Colonial Revival style, popular throughout the 1920s.

Hi. This is a reminder to people on the Melbourne meetup participation list that the next meetup has been arranged for 19 June. Could you indicate on the meetup page your likely attendence, or otherwise. Regards. - Cuddy Wifter 23:10, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Beneath Clouds.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Beneath Clouds.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:10, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 16:28, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Christina Carter

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Christina Carter, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Christina Carter seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Christina Carter, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Who's ever played Eduard Friedrich Mörike's opera "Eduard auf dem Seil" ?

[edit]

Hi, I'm looking for Eduard Friedrich Mörike's opera "Eduard auf dem Seil" (according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silpelit), but I can find any information, who ever has played it. If do you know any link to the information about performance this opera please drop me an e-mail at fazoo@o2.pl, because it seems till now, that nobody's played it ever. It's really important for me so I'd be thankful for any information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.9.92.72 (talk) 06:22, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Mouth (band)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Mouth (band), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Replaceable fair use Image:John Meillon as the Mayor.jpg

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:John Meillon as the Mayor.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Closedmouth (talk) 03:49, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Jessica Rylan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Daniel Menche, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Hi, Cnwb. I'm doing a study about Wikipedia (particularly about sysops) for my Masters in Communications and Media Studies at Monash Uni, and was wondering if you would be so kind as to take some time to talk to me. I'm contacting a few editors/sysops in hopes of hearing first-hand accounts of your day-to-day activities are and your relationship with other members of the community. If you're in Melbourne and can spare some time for a friendly talk (no more than 30 minutes), I'd greatly appreciate it :)

Agree (though late), since I would not call a band that released 15 albums and that has been in the business for 20+ years as "non-notable". That's just plainly impudent. -andy 217.50.42.186 (talk) 00:44, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Lysterfield Park

[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Lysterfield Park. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lysterfield Park. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:04, 27 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear User Cnwb. Recently used a photo you took and uploaded at this stub article Coal Mines Historic Site, but was not sure if the Saltwater probationary ruins you've photographed actually has been included on the National Heritage and now World Heritage lists?

If not, was wondering if you may also have photo of coal mines historic site ruins that are included on the National and World Heritage lists?? Just hoping you can help .. noting your having visited the area plus quality of photo etc??? Bruceanthro (talk) 10:04, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I created the Coal Mines Historic Site article as it has been included on the world heritage list, as part of the Australian Convict Sites listing. If your photo of ruins doesn't belong in the article, then was hoping:
i. you might have other photo/s of ruin/s from the site; and
ii. you might be able to improve article by uploading the same into the article?
Noting I myself only once visited Port Arthur almost 20 years ago! Bruceanthro (talk) 23:16, 6 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts.

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Max Gillies as Metcalfe.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Better source request for File:San Francisco LP.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:11, 22 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Even the claim about the premiere at Stockholm International Film Festival is unsourced, although that's the sentence the IMDB note has been attached to. It's ridiculous. Just get rid of the article if nobody can or wants to provide reliable sources. It's waited long enough.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Maryborough Victoria Australia: Knitting Mill connection with "the wool industry".

[edit]

From Oct 2005 to now, unsourced assertion that "In 1924 the Maryborough Knitting Mills opened, establishing the town as a centre for the wool industry." What is the source? There's considerable evidence in TROVE, and reliable Maryborough histories, that 1924 MKM was a whitework (cotton underwear) factory, with a recent Facebook survey of former employees and customers showing that in later years it ALSO produced SOME woollen goods from purchased yarn. The meaning of "wool industry" isn't clear. The area was colonial sheep/wool from 1840, with no evidence of wool processing I can find, all wool being sent south as unprocessed bales. In later years general road transporters did store wool in Maryborough store sheds until a full load for Melbourne could be obtained.(my gfather was one), but believe that that's transport industry, not "centre for wool industry". For a short period, much later than the 1924, the town also had some skin processing industry. I'm wondering if there's some confusion with the push by the State Tourist Board in the late 1950s for regional towns to have an annual festival. Maryborough commenced its "Wattle & Wool" festival in 1960 (I won a prize for poster design by a teenager). The "Wattle Festival" endured for decades, but the "Wool" element soon disappeared, perhaps indicating, beyond extensive primary production and consequent transport from the region, the area's "wool industry" was neither strong nor connected to the flourishing, tafiff-protected MKM. Apologies if I'm not following your processes. Not here very much. ~Bleating 30.8.2023~ Bleating (talk) 18:45, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
