Discussion regarding reverts made to Steven Hassan page

Dear sir, Hope you are doing well. Thank you for helping in editing and suggesting following info. However, when i see the history, i dont clearly understand what is required. The revision history states following:

Alter: template type. Add: pages, chapter, isbn, date, title, s2cid, publisher, authors 1-2. editors 1-4. | Use this bot. Report bugs. | Suggested by Chris Capoccia | #UCB_toolbar) Tag: Reverted

most the articles that i added had all these details; what is it that is required to resolve above comment and which article was it? Kindly let me know. If required we can get on a quick call and discuss this for faster resolution. Thank you Sh fom (talk) 06:31, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! MrFlyingPies23 (talk) 21:01, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

when edit is a bunch of random stuff, does the summary actually help? or is it just a field to fill in with no value?

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:22, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

You recently made an edit to the page Undifferentiated connective tissue disease. I'm confused about your edit as you removed some citations and edited them in an odd way. I'm not sure how to address this so I thought it was best to just leave a message on your talk page. Unless you have a good reason why your edit was needed I think it would be appropriate to revert your edit.(Edit in question) CursedWithTheAbilityToDoTheMath (talk) 21:30, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

have you tried looking at the whole series of edits?   — Chris Capoccia 💬 21:36, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Need an Editor

Hello.

I see you have made recent edits to the page for my close friend Stanley Krippner.

Stan would like to have corrections/additions made to his Wikipedia page. Although I have made minor updates to other pages, updates to Stan's would involve references and names that can be drilled down on to other articles (I don't know what these links are called). This is beyond my interest to become that proficient.

Please reply with your previous interest in and knowledge of Stan and his career, how you came to update his article, and if you are interested in assisting us.

Many thanks. Phrzbyphil (talk) 13:32, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

nope. i'm just fixing references. but editing pages where you have a close relationship is called conflict of interest and strongly discouraged. see WP:COI.  — Chris Capoccia 💬 17:09, 21 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi, I see you've contributed a lot to Grateful dead (folklore), would you be interested in a taskforce on oral tradition? Kowal2701 (talk) 16:11, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions to Millimeter Ultra-Broad Line Object. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because you may have a possible Conflict of Interest and this is highly inappropriate for Wikipedia, which is not somewhere to publish new results, it is only for established science. Only resubmit when there are twenty or more preprints by others. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Ldm1954 (talk) 12:51, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

lol what? i don't have any conflict of interest. just going around fixing references  — Chris Capoccia 💬 11:59, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Carbon cycle

In this edit you have inexplicably removed all the obligatory acknowledgements concerning the use of creative commons sources - leaving the article wide open to charges of copyright violations. Please reinstate these acknowledgements — Epipelagic (talk) 05:58, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

I notice, with some dismay, that you have resumed your citation bot work without remedying or even acknowledging the situation you have created here. Does this mean you don't care, and your intention is to sail on into the future continuing to remove obligatory creative commons acknowledgements when they are present? – Epipelagic (talk) 21:03, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
See instructions that go with Template:Creative Commons text attribution notice. Seems like you don't actually need this text unless you are actually quoting.  — Chris Capoccia 💬 13:35, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
The text at issue in Carbon cycle is not quoted. Much of the text is modified, and in any case, text used this way is subject to subsequent modification by other editors.
If you look, for example, at the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, it states:
Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
The Wikipedia explanatory essay on copyright violations and plagiarism states:
It is acceptable to copy text from public domain sources or those that are explicitly licensed under a compatible licensing scheme. However, if you decide to do so, a dedicated attribution template must be used, and it's simply not enough to only mention the references and use inline citations.
There are further elaborations at Wikipedia:Adding open license text to Wikipedia and the Copyright FAQ. Regards – Epipelagic (talk) 18:42, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
ok i think i added all the correct template back in for this  — Chris Capoccia 💬 20:27, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank you Chris – Epipelagic (talk) 21:51, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
However, sofar you seem to have added only one attribution back, and are using a template that does not seem to allow you to indicate the text has been modified. There are four more attributions you have yet to restore. In addition, there is a sixth attribution which I restored myself before coming to you about the others. You have changed that attribution so it no longer indicates the text has been modified. – Epipelagic (talk) 22:22, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
I see you have again resumed your bot work as though this situation is not happening. Please pull your head out of the sand, show some courtesy and properly acknowledge and resolve this issue. This issue won't cease to be here until it is clear you appreciate what the issue is, and can remedy the matter if you accidently remove public domain attributions. Please settle yourself with some deep breaths, then go back to carbon cycle and reinstate the missing attributions you removed. – Epipelagic (talk) 22:04, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
i'm not sure concretely what you're talking about. i fixed what was in the diff you linked at the beginning.  — Chris Capoccia 💬 12:11, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
Okay... I see you have now realized that you removed other attributions, and have restored them. Thanks for that. The template you are using does not seem to allow appropriate acknowledgement when the text is modified. But that is a separate issue, and I'll try and get that addressed elsewhere. Regards. — Epipelagic (talk) 20:33, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Editing AFA page at the same time

Hello Chris, I'm new to wiki editing, and was working for hours on the Aphanizomenon flos-aquae page, and when I went to publish, it brought up a notification of an editing conflict, showing that (I think) you had been working on the page as well at the same time. Removed URLs in Aphantasia article

A few days ago you made some changes to the Aphantasia article, including removing a number of URLs in citations. In the absence of an edit summary I can't tell what the intent was, but I'm guessing that you thought the titles would still be linked because the citations had doi's. This only works when they also have doi-access=free. Anyway, I've put the URLs back in the citations that didn't have it. Regards, Dan Bloch (talk) 21:33, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

The goal is not necessarily to have the title hyperlinked but to correctly document the bibliographic data. Duplicating the DOI or any other identifyer into the URL parameter is pointless. See the instructions in HELP:CS1: "It is not necessary to specify a URL to a link identical to a link also produced by an identifier. The |url= parameter (or |title-link=) can then be used for providing a direct deep link to the corresponding document or a convenience link to a resource that would not otherwise be obviously accessible."   — Chris Capoccia 💬 15:21, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
I disagree with this. Perhaps 1 percent of Wikipedia users know what a DOI is or would think to click on a doi: identifier. If you remove the url parameter (except for the open access case where the URL from the doi parameter is used in its place), you're preventing users from seeing the source.
The HELP:CS1 instructions also have another interpretation. I think it's assumed that there's a URL parameter, and HELP:CS1 is saying that if there's also a DOI identifier the two don't have to be the same. Dan Bloch (talk) 00:06, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
