DCWC September update
The Developing Countries WikiContest has now been running for two months, and we've seen tremendous improvement in the encyclopedic coverage of several underrepresented areas from a wide range of editors! The coordinators would like to highlght some of the newer faces who have been making notable contributions in the contest, including but by no means limited to:
- Arconning (submissions) – 386 points, with several good articles primarily relating to the Olympics
- Vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) – 141 points, who created multiple articles about abortion rights and laws in African countries
- TheNuggeteer (submissions) – 126 points, who has contributed to several articles associated with the Phillippines
- Jaguarnik (submissions) – 125 points, with several good article reviews and an appearance in the In the news section of the Main Page
- Averageuntitleduser (submissions) – 119 points, and has written about several Haitian topics and historical figures.
Only one month remains until the end of the contest, so it's time to make your remaining nominations! Please consider answering some review requests, particularly the older entries, as a way of helping out your fellow participants and moving up the leaderboard. Good luck!
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Ixtal (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Navigation Popups: Property Values on Wikidata
Hi, I hope you are keeping well. I still use the QID feature in Popups almost daily, a year or so after you added it.
In case you have any free time, may I remind you about the feature requests we discussed here, and one I have just added, about Property values on Wikidata? If you don't have time, maybe you know someone who might? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:14, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, @Pigsonthewing! Sorry that it's taken a while to respond; I've been busy with other things and haven't found the time to work on Popups again (especially given its current condition, where we don't really know it was compiled). From what I know, @Novem Linguae was attempting to break the full gadget file into its component files (along with applying some tweaks to the code, which are currently live), at least as much as whatever's possible through just the filenames on that page. I'm not sure if he was ever able to finish or publish this work; hopefully he can give a reply here.
- As for patrolling a page from actions, I can see there's currently code that does something to this effect, but since I don't use Popups personally, I'm unsure if it does exactly what you want. If anyone else is interested in that work, then I'm alright with handing it to them, but (as far as I'm aware) I don't think there's anyone who's currently interested in working on Popups and I can't forward you to someone because of that. If I'm able to work on it, I will try to do so, but I can't give a commitment for that right now. Chlod (top • contribs) 21:21, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
- Howdy. I think the best bet for feature requests for popups would be to post them at MediaWiki talk:Gadget-popups.js, or Wikipedia talk:Tools/Navigation popups, or somewhere similar so that it can be crowd sourced. I am not currently working on popups and I am a bit busy with some day job stuff. Also, Sohom Datta has worked on popups before if you want to try making contact with them. Posting a feature request on a popups talk page, then pinging some devs to that feature request, might be a decent workflow. Hope this helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 21:44, 16 September 2024 (UTC)
Coordinator
It appears that your script adds the Coord template to the top of articles, which is problematic because certain mobile operating systems can't display the article correct with the template up there. This is why the MOS:SECTIONORDER guideline wants it placed either in the Infobox, or just above the Categories at the bottom of the page. Abductive (reasoning) 11:53, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
Old typhoon seasons
As a result of a message on my talk page. Me and Hurricanehink are trying to get people to help make older typhoon season articles. As you are a major contributor in typhoon articles, I think you might be interested in tackling this. Thanks, 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗

DCWC closing update
The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has come to a close! After a thrilling finish to the event with a slew of submissions on the final day, we have our winners. With 608 points, Thebiguglyalien (submissions) comes in third with his series of Kiribati and Botswanan submissions; BeanieFan11 (submissions) flies into second place at the last second with 771 points after a string of good articles about sportspersons; and after leading for much of contest's three months, Generalissima (submissions) finishes with a whopping 798 points to take home the Gold Belt Buckle. Congratulations to our winners!
In addition to his spot in the top three, BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins the special awards for submitting under the most countries (44 countries) and for writing the most articles about women (15 Did you know? nominations)! Magentic Manifestations (submissions), after making 16 submissions under the Indian flag—15 of them good articles—receives the awards for most submissions for a single country and most featured or good articles promoted. For their submission of one FAC review, five FLC reviews, and 20 GAN reviews, Simongraham (submissions) wins for most article reviews.
The results of the contest have far exceeded any expectations the coordinators had for it at the beginning: among the submissions to the event were 3 FAs, 10 FLs, 88 GAs, dozens of article reviews of every kind, and more Did you know? submissions than we can count! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...
We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

UserHighlighter.js
Hi Chlod. Thanks for you UserHighlighter.js script! I've noticed a bug that if you use DiscussionTools, it causes the user groups to be duplicated in the link title each time the preview is updated, so the mouseovers can get huge. I've fixed the bug at User:Ahecht/Scripts/UserHighlighter.js (see Special:Diff/1251501325/1251504152) -- feel free to integrate it into your code. This also fixes a bug with links getting assigned an "undefined" class. --Ahecht (TALK

Important: Please update user script installation
Hi there, you currently have a user script installed from Anne drew Andrew and Drew
. Several weeks ago, I changed my username to Anne drew
, and unfortunately, due to an issue with script redirects, the scripts you have installed under my old username no longer function.
To fix this, please update your JavaScript pages (Special:MyPage/common.js or Special:MyPage/skin.js) by replacing all instances of Anne drew Andrew and Drew
with Anne drew
.
If any of this is unclear, please ping Anne drew for help. I apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding!
Thanks – Anne drew

Question from Parineeta tao on Gerry Kissell (18:53, 11 November 2024)
Hello, if I add a new article on wikipedia. Then can anyone edit it ? If anyone can edit it then other persons can add wrong information about me too ! I want to add a page regarding myself. Then what should I do , so that no one can edit it wrongly ? --Parineeta tao (talk) 18:53, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from Parineeta tao (19:06, 11 November 2024)
Hello, I want to create a wiki page about myself. If anyone can edit the page, then anyone can add a wrong information too. So how can I create a page about me, where no one can edit it ? Or
only a full trustworthy of mine can edit ? --Parineeta tao (talk) 19:06, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi, @Parineeta tao! There is no way to protect a page such that no one else can edit it. Wikipedia is a collaborative effort, and no user can claim ownership over any article. In addition, you are highly discouraged from writing Wikipedia articles about yourself, as this goes against our conflict of interest guideline. Chlod (top • contribs) 12:25, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:27, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from Worldish2024 (14:51, 19 November 2024)
Hewo! I have a question: Why can't I log on to Wiki on another tab when I'm loged onto this one(I'm using Chromebook)? --Bella. (talk) 14:51, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, @Worldish2024! You should be able to access your account on any tab as long as you're actively logged in on one of them. If this isn't happening, even after a refresh, you may be experiencing a technical issue. Unfortunately, I can't give any more help with the information you've provided. The following will probably help:
- What sites are you logging in to specifically?
- Are you trying to log in with the same account?
- As a last resort, you can reports this bug at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org, the bug tracker for Wikipedia. Be sure to include all the information requested. Chlod (top • contribs) 15:58, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from Worldish2024 (01:38, 21 November 2024)
How do I fix my infobox and how do I fix the 19:42, 5 January 2025 UTC [refresh] – invalid date format <format> ? --Bella. (talk) 01:38, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Worldish2024! It looks like there's a template loop on your user page. You have
{{User:Worldish2024|wikib}}
and{{User:Worldish2024|count}}
on your user page, which will cause your user page to be included in itself — a recursive operation which doesn't end, therefore causing an error. I'm assuming you mean to use user subpages; in that case you would use a slash (/
) instead of a pipe (|
), and create the pages User:Worldish2024/wikib and User:Worldish2024/count. - As for the time, {{time}} takes in a timezone and a date format; the current time is calculated for you. For more information, see the documentation for the {{time}} template found at Template:Time. Chlod (top • contribs) 05:16, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Do I just delete just one of them? Bella. (talk) 16:58, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- So do I delete
{{User:Worldish2024|wikib}}
and{{User:Worldish2024|count}}
? Bella. (talk) 16:57, 21 November 2024 (UTC)- @Worldish2024: Yes, or replace them with the syntax I wrote above. Chlod (top • contribs) 16:59, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Worldish2024: I suggest reading Help:Wikitext to understand how the syntax works, and the differences between [[ and {{. This will help you avoid mistakes when using templates in the future. :) Chlod (top • contribs) 17:01, 21 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Worldish2024 (20:28, 21 November 2024)
Could you explain to me what [[ and {{ are in simple form please? --Bella. (talk) 20:28, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Worldish2024: [[ is used to link to pages. For example, typing in
[[Dog]]
will link to the article Dog. {{ is used to "transclude" pages. In essence, it allows other pages to be included within the current page. If I type in{{Done}}
, it will appear as " Done", and not "Done". The page being "transcluded" is called a "template"; you can find the "Done" template at Template:Done. Chlod (top • contribs) 05:09, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

I wanted to send it to my mentor but wikipedia says he's not available, ofc ig you can't verify the info, so believe me if you want.
I made a recent edit but I don't think there is a website that supports the information updated in that edit, it is because that edit was related to the change in the principal of a school, the only webpages where you can find information related to that school, are of the organisation, of which the school is a part or the school itself, and so none of them represent the truth about the school that it has no principal at present, if you don't trust me, use your own resources to check for yourself (Other than webpages on internet ofc)
I might have made some grammatical errors, so please have a look at it, the school name is "KV Bantalab"
Hope you have a good day!
