Re: AMC Concord

Hey, I saw the chapter "Concords in Film," and I thought it was appropriate for the category, especially since a TV Series is included on that list. I doubt the audience that the show is targeted at knows what kind of car it was. ----DanTD (talk) 04:13, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

I suppose such tips would be useful if we could freely write episode articles they way we could a few years ago. Nevertheless, I will and have submitted the info to other websites. I can't really imaging adding it to List of Victorious episodes. ----DanTD (talk) 05:39, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Rambler American

Hoo hoo, you've been busy! Very nice work.  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 14:52, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank you Mr.choppers! I'm just trying to contribute some information to the less known cars, without the typical enthusiast puffery found in most of the automobile related articles within Wikipedia. I hope you will continue to edit and add (for example, the picture of the Iranian produced Ramblers is outstanding) material about the Rambler American! Then it would be good to have this article evaluated through the WP assessment system (Wikipedia:Good article nominations). Once again, I appreciate your thoughts! CZmarlin(talk) 16:33, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, while I am not super interested in US cars, I figured that what little content I had on the Aria/Shahin might be in books that the typical American car enthusiast does not have access to. I will definitely partake in any GA assessment. Maybe you should stop editing already, so that when reviewers start demanding changes you'll have ready made answers - keep something up your sleeve, as it were... ;)  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 20:45, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Information abut production of these cars in Iran is not easy to come by. It would also be nice to expand about the assembley in South Africa and other markets. I do not know how the WP process works, but I think it does make a difference in proving that the material in the article meets Wikipedia standards. I'm just learning something new everyday!CZmarlin (talk) 23:25, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Well, being a bit tongue in cheek here, the process begins with a (hopefully already good) article being submitted. Editors will then make demands and list problems, some relevant and some not. A lot of the issues brought up are often just efforts to show that some useful work came out of the process - hence the usefulness of having a few ready sources up your sleeve. I am not entirely kidding, it's just how all bureaucracies work, but I am also not complaining since a bad article is not going to get the GA rating in any case. What I am trying to say is that I would love to assist in the GA procedure.  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 23:56, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! ... Do you think this one is ready to go since "hopefully" it is already "good" at the start of the process? If so, can you start the process? Will stand by to see what happens next! CZmarlin (talk) 01:17, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Wladislaw II statue, Central Park NY, inscription and additional text / info

Dear CZmarlin, how do you do? can I ask You a question about the Wladislaw II statue in Central Park New York? I am a writer, now trying to find out, if nonnational (as I believe ) Till Eulenspiegel, professional fool was employeed by the polish king. If You now may think I am worried, I must admit I am somehow, a little. Cause I don't know if I remember it right. I was in central park 2004, and I remember that I saw it written on the information-table beneath the king- monument. And that Eulenspiegel was astonishingly 30 years of his life living at the polish court. In fact I was so surprised, that I didn't write it up. I tried to find out at home, in germany, but never found any information to reconfirm. Do you know anything about it? And by the way, what is GNU-free?

Thanks for listening, and I hope I didn' t waste your time. Have a nice day aneta kreutzmann, culture _club _sfr@gmx.de / n.can80@googlemail.com

Hello, us there any chance to reach you for more information on inscription and additional text to the Wladislaw II statue in centrak park NYC? And is there any chance to get this sent off? bbye, aneta--N.can80revenge (talk) 13:18, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Mercedes-Benz 190 and 300SL

Hi. Please leave the external links to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center as it is the official manufacturer address for support and information about these historical vehicles. It is not spam to say Mercedes-Benz built these iconic cars. And it's not spam to say Mercedes-Benz has an address can verify whether or not a specific car is an original or a fake replica, still takes care of these classics. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mercedesfan2000 (talkcontribs) 22:16, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

I agree. They get a lot of press coverage and are renowned as a first-choice source of information on heritage related questions about Mercedes-Benz. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4Ja1mRI8Iw There's a whole series about the Classic Center guy telling the stories of historical Mercedes-Benz models. It's educational. — Precedingunsigned comment added by Yuri1965 (talkcontribs) 22:31, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments. However, please review WP guidelines for including external links. Specifically: "Adding external links to an article or user page for the purpose of promoting a website or a product is not allowed, and is considered to be spam" - see WP:LINKSPAM. Moreover, the link you are providing (http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/heritage/classic_center/overview?src=4075) is nothing more than just one page within the Mercedes-Benz USA website promoting the "Classic Center" and contains no information about the vehicles that are the subject of the WP articles. This does not meet the criteria for inclusion in the articles about the specific cars. Thank you.CZmarlin (talk) 15:49, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Hello CZmarlin.

I notice that you have deleted my citations on several occasions.

I am mystified as to why you deem it advisable to deny that Gucci has a significant impact on popular culture. (Granted, I know little about rap music, so I can't vouch for those particular references--"infantile vandalism", as you put it) I assumed the "Drake" citation was done in good faith by whomever it was; but as I can't vouch for it, let that omission stand I DO know about The Kinks, however; their achievements are "notable", and that is not "guff".

Also, I believe the category itself is crucial and as such needs additional citations that demonstrate Gucci's impact in the various media. For example, Gucci is mentioned in several episodes of the acclaimed TV show "Sex and the City; but as I don't have the particulars, I'll leave that connection to someone else.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Dalexwats, thank you for your questions. There are extensive suggestions and guidelines regarding "in popular culture" sections or information within WP articles. If even they exist, such information should contain verifiable facts of interest to a broad audience of readers. Moreover, lists of mentions are discouraged, as are also passing references to the article subject in media or other places. Mere mentions in books, television or film dialogue, or song lyrics should be included only when that mention's significance is itself demonstrated with secondary sources. The critical element is: that the mention is indeed "significant".
For example, it is not enough to mention than a particular product is used on a "acclaimed" TV show. Rap music is notorious for corporate sponsorship. To be encyclopedic, these product mentions in the media must have a third party reference and demonstrate the significance of such mention, This could include the amount of money or other consideration a company paid to have their product used or mentioned on a program and text of of a song, or document the impact such a mention may have had on sales. In other words, corporations use popular culture to promote and advertise products. This method of target marketing is not encyclopedic. These so-called popular culture mentions are most often not a demonstration of a brand's impact on culture, but rather the result of effective corporate sponsorship and advertising.
Before considering any "pop culture" additions to WP articles, please follow WP guidelines. Specifically the following questions as copied from WP:POPCULTURE:
When trying to decide if a pop culture reference is appropriate to an article, ask yourself the following:
  1. Has the subject acknowledged the existence of the reference?
  2. Have reliable sources that don't generally cover the subject pointed out the reference?
  3. Did any real-world event occur because of the reference?
If all three of the above questions have verifiable sources, then you are possibly adding valuable content. Otherwise, these "pop culture" mentions are just trivia and "guff". I hope this explains the problems with your contributions to the Gucci article! CZmarlin (talk) 15:01, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

Hmmm, I need to know what you felt was wrong with my convertible link. Eddaido (talk) 11:59, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

There are several reasons starting with it not following the proper formatting and placement of ELs.
I added it beside the previous one which is undisturbed by you, what was wrong with the formatting?

Secondly, this link to an image may not have the type of copyright needed for use in WP.
It is not in WP, it is an external link!

Lastly, it is a broken EL resulting in the following message when trying to access it: An error has occured. ErrorCode: 400
I have just gone to the article, picked up the version before you changed it and the link works perfectly!

I hope this helps explain the reasons. Thanks! CZmarlin (talk) 03:40, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
So no it does not explain any of your "reasons" - at all. More explaining to do please. Eddaido (talk) 05:39, 20 August 2011 (UTC)
Please read the WP guidelines on ELs, specifically item #12 under the section "Links normally to be avoided" (see: WP:ELNO). It states, "a website on a specific subject should usually not be linked from an article about a general subject." The EL you had added to the WP article about the general subject of convertibles is about a specific vehicle. The EL shows a concept car, not even a popular production model. This link could be in a WP article about the Chrysler Thunderbolt, but not placed in the "External Links" section of the article about convertibles. I hope this explanation of WP guidelines helps with the reasons why this external link was removed. Thank you! CZmarlin (talk) 12:40, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

FSO Polonez

Hello. There are no aftermarket parts in this vehicle [1] - it is equipped in stock parts (including rear spoiler). It has no wheel trim but it has factory rims. So your argument is a way out. Pitak (talk) 13:01, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi Pitak! Please consult the Wikipedia guidelines and image requirements for automobiles here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Automobiles/Conventions#Images. I provided a short sentence in the "edit summary" why your image does not meet the criteria. There is not enough room when editing for a complete explanation that follows here. The fact that the car does not have any wheel trim is enough to disqualify its use within the article. There are many images of complete factory trimmed cars available, and there is no specific need to illustrate black painted plain steel wheels. Nevertheless, the fully painted lug nuts and axle hubs are also a custom feature of this car, as the factory left those components unpainted. This image also shows an aftermarket side window louver accessory on the driver's door. This deflector was not standard factory equipment. This picture also shows either poorly done paint work, or distracting matte reflections in this car's finish. Wikipedia guidelines also calls for the license plate to be blurred or edited out. If you are photographing your own vehicle, please remove the license plate. Lastly, the photograph is not taken from the height of an ordinary person. In summary, I hope you can see why your photograph does not meet the criteria for the lead image. Thanks! CZmarlin (talk) 13:38, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

International Harvester Light-duty pickups

International pickup and antipodean variations
IH B-120 (US)
IH C-1600 (Aus, 1966-1973)
'78 Dodge D500 (Aus, 1972-1979)

The IH A-series, B-series, and C-series (and any other names they may have had, I know next to nothing about these trucks) are currently of interest to me as they were also bizarrely marketed as Dodges in Australia (Chrysler Australia did all the pressing work, although the cabins still had "IH" stamped in the sheetmetal). Do you know enough to at least start a stub for these things? I wouldn't even know what to title such an article. I chose to ask you, since you took the leftmost photo and at least knew what it was. Any ideas for a name or other resources?  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 21:08, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Mr.choppers! I wish I had more time to post more information on WP. However, I don't have the background on IH medium-duty trucks. What attracts me are the lesser known models, and it was hard not to take a picture of that great old IH truck! When it comes to versions manufactured in other countries, not only is it not easy to find information, but things can get very complicated among the various joint ventures, licensing, and shared component agreements! I think of it as also the "fun" of unearthing such information! CZmarlin(talk) 13:02, 28 August 2011 (UTC)
I started an article entitled International Harvester A-Series to cover all of these, and have been able to unearth a reasonable amount of information on the Aussie-built units. Very interesting!  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 00:47, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

www.chrysler-crossfire-forum.de

Hi.

I don't understand why the link to this german Crossfire Forum is not allowed in the english Chrysler Crossfire Wiki and was deleted. I've read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:EL

Maybe every english website/forum/blog should be deleted from wikipedia in german language? Maybe we should divide the web? So what's your point in deleting the link to the german Crossfire forum?

Thanks & regards Markus — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.216.5.94 (talk) 22:16, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Marcus, Please re-read the section entitled Non-English-language content (see: WP:NONENGEL). It specifically explains that external links to English-language content are strongly preferred in the English-language Wikipedia. An exception includes the situation if an official site is unavailable in English. The Chrysler Crossfire is no longer included in Chrysler's official websites, which of course have English as their official language. Please also review the section entitled Links normally to be avoided (see: WP:ELNO). In particular, items numbered 10 and 11 explain that discussion forums/groups, as well as enthusiast and fansites, should generally be avoided. Please understand that these are not my interpretations, but are the guidelines collaboratively established for the English language Wikipedia. Please refer to the policies for the German version of Wikepedia regarding their policies for adding external links to non-German language websites. For your convenience, they are copied below (see here).
In summary, please do not include the German language automobile forum and enthusiast website to this English language article. Thank you, CZmarlin (talk) 17:17, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Aston Martin Lagonda

Hi, I see why you have changed the name of the company in the infobox etc.

Do you think it might be possible that you have been misled by the content of the news item into assuming that the entity that makes the cars uses the name you have just put in? Cheers,Eddaido (talk) 08:06, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for your observation. The company has registered and uses both names: the more historic "Aston Martin Lagonda Limited" as well as the corporate "Aston Martin Holdings Ltd" version. Of course they also have several other separate corporate registrations and names for various related activities that assist in the manufacture of vehicles, such as sales, restoration, financing, etc. The entire company's actual financial reports are under the holding company banner (Aston Martin Holdings Ltd)as can be seen on the company's own corporate press release. Perhaps this reference summarizes the operations of the "Aston Martin Holdings Ltd" a corporate shell described by "business.highbeam.com"a consumer financial and business information provider. Standard & Poor's, the large financial rating firm, also describes the relationship between the various names as reported byUK's Reuters news on August 19, 2011: it assigned its 'BB-' long-term corporate credit rating to U.K.-based luxury sports car manufacturer Aston Martin Holdings (UK) Ltd. (AM). These references indicate that the overall corporate organization encompassing all the operations of Aston Martin are under "Aston Martin Holdings Ltd" name. In summary, have I been mislead by these references? If so, please correct as appropriate. Thank you! CZmarlin (talk) 14:45, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I think so. If you go to this level of "precision" you mislead readers Here's a Bloomberg Businessweek view of the organisation. I'll note here your second revert of the Daimler V12 engine image. Will be back about AML in a little while. Eddaido (talk) 05:10, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for explaining the paint on your car. However, I have uploaded over 1,000 pictures to Commons, with most of them being automobiles. Thus, I am not sure which image is your car. Almost all pictures of AMCs have been reviewed by enthusiasts of vehicles produced by American Motors, and some have been noted with the paint codes available from the factory for the given car and model year. Perhaps your car's finish was a close match that looked like the original "Matador Red" given the clarity, lighting, and resolution of the photograph. In any case, I hope you are enjoying your vehicle and are happy to see its picture in Wikipedia! Thanks! CZmarlin (talk) 18:59, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Celebrity section

Greetings, CZ. There's a Celebrity section in the Nash-Healey article. [2] I favor WP:BOLDly removing it as trivia. Do you have any thoughts? Writegeist (talk) 16:17, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for asking, but WikiProject Automobiles guidelines for trivia and popular culture sections are better explained in WP:WPACT. As I read these conventions, the celebrity owner "cases where the fact of that reference influenced the sales, design or other tangible aspect of the vehicle" should be included in the article about that automobile. An example may be the Ford Bronco that was owned and driven by Al Cowlings with O. J. Simpson as his passenger. On the other hand, if there was no influence on some major aspect of a particular vehicle, the referenced facts about celebrity owners of these cars "belong in the article about the owner."
As far as the items in the Nash-Healy article: I do not know if the designer giving the first car they built to a famous English singer, actress, and composer would be a notable part of the car's marketing campaign. I have also seen the pictures of Sam Snead's car used as decoration at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. However, I do not know whether this famous golfer's ownership was part of the marketing campaign for the Nash-Healey or the resort back in 1953. The use of this car in TV shows and movies would seem to be in the "trivia" classification, unless the automaker had a product placement deal with the broadcaster or studio. There are many instances of this type of prominent brand exposure in television programming and cinema, such as was the case with the Mercedes-Benz M-Class in the film The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
I hope this information helps! CZmarlin (talk) 17:37, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your informative and helpful reply. I'm thinking that maybe the celebrity connections should be removed from the N-H article as trivia (whose rightful place might be in articles about the celebrities themselves) unless WP:RS sources can be cited which explicitly state that a particular celebrity's ownership or use of an N-H was part of the manufacturer's marketing strategy? This edit was from some time ago! I created the page in 2007, and used old "technology" for most of the material: hard copy articles! However, I do nat have easy access to them, and cannot confirm the source. My early contributions to WP were not all properly cited. This makes backtracking more difficult now! I have learned over the years! CZmarlin(talk) 03:17, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Photo of a wheel (1991 Cadillac Fleetwood gold-edition black ww.jpg).

My name is Joan, teacher in Catalunya, Spain.

Thanks for the photo of the wheel.

I will use it in a vocabulary activity for children, to illustrate a story of a wheel which comes off a truck.

I insist: thanks a lot. Joan

You are more than welcome! All the best! CZmarlin (talk) 18:33, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Bond's cars

CZ, are you seriously going to argue that the placement of the DB5 in the Bond movies, for instance, was not of importance? One of the four cars made sold for 4.6 million--seethis andthis and was obviously important enough for Aston Martin to invest in; this placement is cited as a textbook example, Bond and Prince Charles made the company famous, and with Bond. I appreciate your efforts to get the trivia out, but Bond in a DB5, that's just not trivial. Drmies (talk) 15:45, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Drmies, referenced information about Aston Martin's marketing of its automobile via product placement should be included. However, it is not enough to just note that one of their models was used in the movie, and that now the cars are worth a lot more. That is trivia. It would be more appropriate to title a section "Corporate marketing efforts" and then explain how a small company became well known due to its effective product placement in the popular Bond series. It would be good to document that this was in fact an innovative and early use of this as a new marketing strategy by the manufacturer, rather than the selection of the car used by the movie star to have been a luck of the draw as there were other, better known British autos available at the time. The "textbook example" you have provided does not clearly state the Aston Marin was a planned product placement strategy. On the other hand, it explains that later examples of the use of automobile product placement in Bond movies. Piggybacking on the "007" partnership in much later marketing efforts by AMC, BMW, Mercedes (even as to the amounts paid to the movie studios) have been documented. Yes, please improve the information in the Aston Martin article! CZmarlin (talk) 16:24, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
