Your user name or IP address has been blocked from editing. You were blocked by Pschemp for the following reason (see our blocking policy): Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Light current". The reason given for Light current's block is: "more personal attacks, inciviity.". Your IP address is 212.74.96.197.

NB: I have e-mailed Pschemp asking why this IP address has been blocked when I only created an account last evening, but have been on the same IP address for 3 days (at least).

Having read more into your pages on blocking, I believe I now understand that this IP address has been automatically blocked by your system. I suspect that Tiscali use this for a (large?)number of broadband dial-up users. I have tried the anti-AOL trick of using the secure link to Wikipedia and, surprisingly, it worked, but it is SO SLOW as to be unusable. We need a better solution

Well the block message had the link to autoblock, which explains the situation. I've removed the autoblocks. --pgk(talk) 14:33, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While I updated that page, the protection was placed by User:Jeffrey O. Gustafson. Please see him regarding this, or post at WP:RFPP. In the meantime, I've made your requested change. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 02:57, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did you recreate this? If so, you could get an administrator very mad at you. That person can retaliate, punish you, and make life difficult for you. If you improved the article substantially then a deleted article might be brought back. Chergles (talk) 20:48, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lincoln Minster

[edit]

Thank you for correcting Minster (church) page. I had deleted Lincoln Minster from the table because Wikipedia's page on Lincoln Cathedral makes no reference to it being a Minster. Egbertnoah (talk) 00:37, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Calmer Waters 08:57, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Full stops in abbreviations

[edit]

Hi CS46, just noticed you've been taking the full stop out of the "Hon" from Rt Hon. A full stop is actually needed there as Hon is a truncation – that is, it doesn't end with the same letter as the word being abbreviated – whereas "Rt" does. Compare Mr, Dr, Sgt, Ltd and the like to Co., Inc., feat., etc. In the latter three abbreviations, the rest of the word is cut off so a full stop is needed, but the former four are contractions with letters taken out of the middle. Hope this helps. JonCTalk 18:59, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this JonC. I understand what you say and don't wish to get into a long discussion over this since this is only a matter of style and not substance.
I draw your attention to MOS:#Abbreviations which, under 'Periods (full stops) and spaces', states "Abbreviations formed by truncation (Hon. for Honorable), compression (cmte. for committee), or contraction (Dr. for Doctor) may or may not be closed with a period" and although "A period is more usual in North American usage", "no period is commonly preferred in British and other usage".
This last is evidenced by the main reference for Template:David Cameron cabinet 1 vertical, namely http://www.number10.gov.uk/news/topstorynews/2010/05/her-majestys-government-49840 where you will see that the British government omit the periods.
I therefore would respectfully submit that, in an article which is quintessentially British, I am correct.
I don't, however, intent to re-revert the 2 articles—I'll leave that to you if you agree, or not, otherwise. I will, however, put this discussion on the relevant talk page for others' enlightenment.
CS46 22:46, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply, CS. Although, technically, it's dead wrong not to use a full stop with "Hon" and the like, judging by the link you provided it seems to be No. 10's preference, so we'll go with that. I'm a writer, you see, so I'm a stickler for these sorts of things. :) Have self-reverted. Best, JonCTalk 06:13, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Southampton and Dorchester Railway, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Dorchester and Weymouth (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Her Majesty's Coastguard, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Manston. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Notice

The article Emmanuel Church of England Middle School has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced since 2006 and tagged for a decade. No evidence of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
