Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello CJCurrie! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 312 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 48 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

I should clarify, for those who are wondering, that I wrote all of these articles a few years ago, before BLP policy (or citation policy) was well established. I'll try to improve them soon. CJCurrie (talk) 06:09, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Wilbert Doneleyko has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced BLP.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Unitasock (talk) 22:12, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated David R. Cooke, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David R. Cooke. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Just passing along a courtesy notice about this. I have nominated this and other articles for deletion, as I have serious doubts about the notability of very minor candidates in a series of local elections. Your opinion may differ. Iamcuriousblue (talk) 22:49, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review: David Lewis (politician)

[edit]

Hi CJCurie, wondering if you'd be interested in peer reviewing an article I've been working on over the past few years, David Lewis (politician). It recently went through a major rewrite, and I would really like to get this article up to feature status. Take care, --Abebenjoe(talk) 19:26, 20 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alan de Jardin

[edit]

Hi, could you comment at wt:Canada about Alan de Jardin, an article on a politician that u started quite a while ago. The article is in the middle of the big issue of completely unsourced BLP articles, and it is questioned whether this one should be kept or deleted. Or if you can add any source about this person, that would also be great. Glad to see you are still active. Thanks! --doncram (talk) 22:00, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that you have not been editing, but just in case you check in, I am going to nominate this article for deletion. I have been trying to source Canadian unreferenced BLPs, and can't find a reliable source about this gent and his activities. It seems like you were a bit dubious about his notability during the AFD in 2005, so perhaps you won't mind too much!! --Slp1 (talk) 23:47, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, CJCurrie. I thought I would let you know that this article you created ages ago has been tagged, including as being unreferenced for 3 years. Borys Wrzesnewskyj Poland controversy

[edit]

CJCurrie, I've started a discussion on Borys Wrzesnewskyj's page regarding your repeated removal of the facts pertaining to this event. I'd like to invite you to participate in a meaningful discussion rather than being involved in a politicized revert war. Sincerely, Ilvar (talk)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of NOWAR-PAIX, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.nowar-paix.ca/bg.htm.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. The article contained too much verbatim material from the referenced website. It also didn't assert notability although it appears likely to me that the organization is notable. A rewrite from secondary sources would be a good idea. Acroterion (talk) 04:05, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I quoted the organization's three primary goals in the main body of the article (while noting that my source was the group's website). Otherwise, there was no verbatim material from the referenced website at all. I don't think there was a copyright violation, though I am prepared to adjust the wording. CJCurrie (talk) 04:25, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on NOWAR-PAIX requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. - McMatter (talk)/(contrib) 05:18, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"scandal-du-jour,"

[edit]

Why would you step in to identify the Smitherman topic as a scandal-du-jour and not step in with regards to the vague form letter response from Ford's campaign [1]? I am very concerned about the selective editing and non-editing by senior Canadian Editors, particularly when I peruse the complete history of Rob Ford and Helena Guergis, so I figure I must be missing something here. When you have a chance, maybe you can try to explain how you decide which of the articles you watch to edit. I realize you don't have to do that, But it might be real helpful to me to have a better understanding. Mr.Grantevans2 (talk) 15:17, 5 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Edit War on Jason Kenney

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Jason Kenney. Users who edit disruptively or refuse to collaborate with others may be blocked if they continue. In particular the three-revert rule states that making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block. If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the talk page to discuss controversial changes. Work towards wording and content that gains consensus among editors. If unsuccessful then do not edit war even if you believe you are right. Post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If edit warring continues, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. --SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 01:22, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Readers may note that this was the edit to which User:SaskatchewanSenator objects, and that I was addressing his/her concerns on the article talk page at the very moment that s/he posted his/her message. I doubt this situation could be described as an edit war in the meaningful sense of the term.
Readers should also note that it's generally not recommended for one participant in a content dispute to post an "edit war" notice on another participant's talk page. CJCurrie (talk) 01:32, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
When your changes are not accepted, it is usually better to discuss the issue rather than repeatedly reverting the article. Check out WP:CYCLE. Let's discuss your concerns on the talk page. Cheers.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 19:08, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on E. J. Williams requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Graham Colm (talk) 18:30, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lewis MacKenzie

[edit]

Hello. I'd just like to explain that I'm not reverting your change to my edit at the Lewis MacKenzie article as a knockabout tit-for-tat riposte, I'm serious in saying that Lewis MacKenzie's ongoing support for the Serbian nationalist stance on Balkan issues is significant matter as far his biography and the article are concerned.

I assume from the pattern of UrbanVillager's activities across a series of Wikipedia articles that the original insertion of a mention of MacKenzie's role in the two films was part of an effort to promote awareness of the forthcoming The Weight of Chains film. The film, like its predecessor Kosovo: Can You Imagine? has an obvious Serbian nationalist agenda, which is not remarkable given Malagurski's background. What is significant is that Lewis MacKenzie, long after his very limited period of active involvement in UN peacekeeping in Bosnia continues to involve himself in propaganda for the Serbian nationalist position in relation to the Bosnian war and Kosovo. The reasons remain controversial, but that support is public and sustained. MacKenzie's involvement with Malagurski's films alongside the likes of Srdja Trifkovic cannot be said to be the misadventure of an innocent abroad.

A few references for you to check out, whether or not you agree with what I am saying, just to show you that I'm not simply engaging in an uninformed slanging match aimed at maligning a national hero. Malagurski's role in the Serbian Youth League http://www.serbianyouthleague.org/vancouver/contact.html and their advocacy activities http://www.serbianyouthleague.org/vancouver/multimedia.html What Malagurski has to say about the film The Weight of Chains on his Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Boris-Malagurski/107962485893652 MacKenzie continues to offer himself as a commentator on contemporary Balkan issues: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9eNT9_CPZY MacKenzie's ongoing political support for the Serbian nationalist viewpoint: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LjmGei-UJY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dzeWzok56k Opbeith (talk) 10:06, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time to clarify the situation at my User page. I'm very much aware of Canadian sensitivities concerning Lewis MacKenzie, who has frequently courted controversy on the subject of the Balkans (including in a number of areas where he has no special knowledge or expertise) but nevertheless retains considerable respect among Canadians (and others). I wanted to make the reason for my references to Malagurski's affiliations clear. MacKenzie and the other participants in Malgurski's films all have a long history of advocacy for the Serbian nationalist cause (including challenges to the legal findings about war crimes, etc.). I find it difficult to see MacKenzie's involvement with Malagurski as politically innocent. Obviously I wasn't expecting you simply to agree with me when I insist on pointing out the relevance of MacKenzie's longstanding involvement with the propagandists, I just wanted to make it clear that my amendments were thought through, not simply the next step in a tit-for-tat squabble with UrbanVillager. Please don't hesitate to comment, whether or not you agree with me. I have no problem with people holding different views to me as long as they're not part of an organised campaign! As you might guess I hold fairly strong views about MacKenzie but I'm certainly not averse to being disagreed with on a reasonable basis.Opbeith (talk) 00:01, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article E. J. Williams has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
