You don't get to decide

[edit]

Stop deleting my addition to Sam Katz. They are all referenced and someone needed to update the page, so I did. It is completely true that he did all of those things while in office. You may not agree with those decisions made by the Mayor but you can't decide what history is shown and which is not. If you disagree, add your own research and stop pretending mine is not true. At the very least be accurate and fair. You accuse others of being biased when in fact you are biased.

Hi,

You keep deleting information I contribute to Chris Holt's information. Nothing is libellous but all of my evidence is in hard copy format. Also, this is actually not the incorrect forum for this story. Before I posted details, you actually said it would be a good story if it could be proven. Well, I can prove every word I say. This is an encyclopedia. Is it only a men's history encyclopedia or does Chris history of abusing women not constitute history at all?

In fact, there was a citation. The fact that there wasn't a web-link does not render the source non-existent. CJCurrie (talk) 02:05, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

One cant use a partisan website as a source. I doubt the validity of the article. Cant use a partial website... unless you want me using every Orthodox newspaper in the US about Aish, dont use a website about Aish. (Babasalichai (talk) 05:34, 17 February 2009 (UTC))[reply]

I'm afraid you're barking up the wrong tree. I removed the link to the "partisan" website, although another editor subsequently returned it. CJCurrie (talk) 05:41, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You returned it today, and that was a sockpuppet. Should it reappear you will be banned for using unsourced information. I too then could take sources from every Orthodox website about Aish. Babasalichai (talk) 12:56, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Mike Babinsky

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Mike Babinsky, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

No notability established: School trustee? Fails WP:POLITICIAN by a long, long way.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Shane Martinez article

[edit]

Hi CJ, could you lend a hand with the Shane Martinez article? A new user named Ally-Oopsykins is attacking the article non-stop (i.e. over 14 edits in a very short time span), entering editorialized material and removed sourced content. Any help you can provide would be most appreciated. Thanks. Frank Pais (talk) 17:54, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello CJCurrie,

I understand that Mr. Popescu did not run provincially in 2003, but he ran provincially in 1999, and those are the results I used in the 2007 figures. It is unbelievable that someone like that can actually have an INCREASE in votes over the course of several elections, but that is beside the point. I am currently a bit hazy on whether percentage change between elections is only for consecutive elections, or when they run again.

Well it seems that there was a webpage on the politician in question, with some of the paragraphs in the article copied word for word from the webpage. I can't seem to find it anymore, and I somehow left it out of the copyvio template, but I'm pretty sure its here, the third link from the top, but seems to have been deleted. I guess you can feel free to remove the copyvio now, seeing as the webpage doesn't seem to exist anymore. Regards, FingersOnRoids 22:55, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Really? That was one of the first things I thought of when I saw the website, but it had no indication on it that it was a mirror, I thought it was an independent website. But now that it's gone, I suppose there's no reason to keep the copyvio on, for the moment anyways. Regards FingersOnRoids 00:48, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pierre Poilievre

[edit]

There seems to again be a number of IP-based edits on this page to essentially eliminate any negative facts about this Member of Parliament. I am wondering if you or another editor can flag this page. From what I can see, some of the IP-based edits border on the attempted creation of propaganda. This is of particular concern, given that previous IP-based edits were coming from the House of Commons, and alleged to be coming from this MP's own office. Most recently, he is asserted as being a university graduate when all previous biographies made the unchalleged statement that he did not graduate. From what I can see, he lasted until second year commerce at the University of Calgary and then switched to international relations for awhile.

Many thanks in advance for your help here.

Hello there.

I had reverted the article because ClueBot was having filter issues, I see that you reverted the "promotional" version as you had earlier.

While I agree that that version is not standard, and needs to be rewritten from a NPOV, there are some good links there. I notice that you've done great work with Canadian politician articles, so perhaps you can help expand this one. Just curious, if you're interested. Happy editing to you. Funny observation

[edit]

"Opponents of Israeli Apartheid Week argue that it has fomented an upsurge of anti-Zionism on Canadian and American campuses." Isn't that the raison d'etre of IAW - to foment an anti-Zionist atmosphere on campuses? I don't think IAW organizers would dispute that point as they label Zionism a blatantly racist ideology. They would dispute that it creates an anti-Semitic atmosphere on campuses. Thoughts? ShamWow (talk) 02:41, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Infoboxes/Table of Offices held.

[edit]

I was not aware about the phasing out the table of offices held at the bottom of the screen for Ontario MPP pages. It is my thought that for MPP's with more that 1 position that it would be prudent to place only the current positions in the main infobox at the top of the page, and to have a table of offices held at the bottom of the page with all past positions, such as is the current case with the Jim Bradley page or the Chris Bentley page. It is my thought that having all information stored in the infobox would clutter the top of the page. Furthermore, some consistency with MPP pages would be nice. Mr. No Funny Nickname (talk) 21:17, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't found anything stating information tables are being removed in favor of the infobox. Also, most Ontario cabinet minister pages have infoboxes that contain only their current position and a table of offices held that contain all past offices, examples: Jim Bradley, Gerry Phillips,Sandra Pupatello.Mr. No Funny Nickname (talk) 00:54, 21 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On apartheid analogy page

[edit]

given that the page cites Norman Finkelstein, Electronic Intifada, Cjpip, Americans For Understanding in the Middle East, End the Occupation South Africa, COUNTERPUNCH, ALLL cites or organizations that according to you, can all be called into question as "noteworthy sources" are quoted, there is nothing wrong with the sites I put in. What is a "noteworthy source?" If you look at Z-Word, you'll see the people who write on it are "noteworthy." But given that the whole point of the article of Israel and the apartheid analogy is the given different views on the thing, and many different sites across the internet do this, the sites I put can be on there. I simply did what others on the page do and have done: give arguments in an article that essential is pro-con about the analogy. You cannot delete the views or things you do not like. Also, the John Strawson as you can see has a degree in international law, teaches it, and it is listen as one his expertise AND the engage article is listed on his website http://www.uel.ac.uk/law/staff/johnstrawson.htm which is on a university page. He is as much of a professor as Finkelstein and thus has the right to be on this site.

Also, I think you know that no apartheid government would do affirmative action, as Israel does it in the tradition in the US, given the intent and the actions of what they do that constitutes are affirmative action. Affirmative action is the make lives better of minorities, with the purpose of improving them. Israel carries that out in a way which objectively viewed is similar to other countries. Apartheid Pretoria did not try to help blacks get better houses, jobs, education, as in better by a standard we would know. While we can debate this, given the nature of the article, and the fact the article is about different people's arguments, this argument can be put on.Tallicfan20 (talk) 04:55, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

response

[edit]

how about lets stop the edit war. The page has tons of pro-analogy opinions, so I don't see a problem with what I put in. The Kadalie argument does include the fact Israel is more popular among those with a clear opinion of the conflict in South Africa. Given how many South Africans use the analogy and how their leaders do support the Palestinians more or less, this would be a surprise to many people, which if you read the article, fits into the overall context of the argument. I mean you did also revert me many times.Tallicfan20 (talk) 02:00, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK I compromised. For now, I took the poll which showed my point off. But for now, I think my other edits should stay.Tallicfan20 (talk) 02:09, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK but if someone else reverts the edits I made who is not you, and I think it is unjustified, I will revert or modify it. But I don't see why that should happen. For an analogy, which in itself is a opinion, and the fact I used acceptable sources for people's view as people used their own sites like the ones I pointed out earlier, I do not see why this would happen. But I do not want to continue the edit war with you.Tallicfan20 (talk) 02:20, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And about Z-Word, if you look, it is actually not just some fringe site, but "Z Word is an editorially independent creation of the American Jewish Committee (AJC). Founded in 1906, AJC is the USA's oldest human relations organization, with over 175,000 members and supporters." So again, you now see that this site is worthy of having their view on here like the other site I point out to you.Tallicfan20 (talk) 02:23, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well the people who write on it are as notable as the people who write on other editorial sites, ie Electronic Intifada, sometimes more notable, and the site does link on the bottom and have a copyright of the AJC. And AJC is absolutely very independently notableTallicfan20 (talk) 02:33, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Antisemitism and anti-Israelism

[edit]

Yesterday we had a fine example of wikipedia no-nothingism. Two well-designed academic studies were published establishing not only that there a link between anti-Semitism and anti-Israel attitudes and activism, (the studies show that people with anti-Israel opinions, people who would never utter an anti-Semitic word and who deny being at all anti-Semitic, harbor deeply anti-Semitic attitudes,) but that anti-Israel rhetoric demonstrably leads to anti-Semitic attitudes and incidents. I attempted to add a sentence, (differently tailored sentences) to four or five articles that contain lengthy sections on the argument over whether there is a link between anti-Semitism and anti-Israel rhetoric. CJCurrie followed me around and removed the sentences from all but one article. I do not know if CJCurrie is such a person, but there are some people who cannot bear to see actual evidence that contradicts their deary-held beliefs. The pity is that quite a few of them edit Wikipedia.Historicist (talk) 14:13, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, CJCurrie. If Sr.artinez has been threatened, please provide diffs so that we can correct this. Threats of harm are serious issues and should be dealt with. Proposing deletion is not the answer, evidence should be provided at ANI. We do not need permission to upload a picture of someone, just an appropiate fair use or uncopyrighted one. Anyone with an article can't expect not to have their picture appear. Notable people about whom articles are written are public figures. If Martinez bjects to having an article, he can create an account and address any concerns on the talkpage or at the appropriate board. I don't see anyone adding anything slanderous or vicious, just a lot of cleaning up to bring the page up to snuff. Some of what you wrote seemed to imply a personal knowledge or contact with the BLP subject. If true, invite him to try our community out! Minor error in footnotes for: Progressive Party candidates, 1990 Manitoba provincial election

[edit]

Hello CJCurrie,

In the article Progressive_Party_candidates,_1990_Manitoba_provincial_election, the second chunk of footnote 2:

Ted Nield, "Supercontinent", Winnipeg Free Strike, 13 January 2008, D0

is one of the book reviews, and so belongs in footnote 5 (between the note for Mark Buchanan, "The Social Atom" & Dan Gardner's "Science and Politics of Fear", to keep things chronological).

Interestingly, the way note #2 now reads, readers might think I was 34 in 2008, and we can't have that.

I'd make the change myself, but it would seem sinister, and anyway you deserve the honours given the meticulous nature of your research. (I only stumbled across this article when searching for a recent FP article by Sid Green, and was quite surprised at the detail.)

If you want a ref to my age other than what the FP reporter wrote, my birth announcement is (also surprisingly) online: http://content.lib.sfu.ca/cgi-bin/getimage.exe?CISOROOT=/mcc_cjr&CISOPTR=25830&DMSCALE=100&DMWIDTH=1500&DMHEIGHT=207600 (see upper right corner of beans ad)

btw, do you know why the footnotes have 2 character codes (A2, A3, B5, etc.) all over?

If you have any questions, you can contact me at: first name initial + last name at domain of provincial telco.
