Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 January. It will be on all wikis from 23 January (calendar).
Future changes
There is a new suggestion for what to show when someone edits without registering an account. This is to give unregistered editors better privacy and make some anti-vandalism work go faster. You can give feedback.
Pywikibot is a Python library to automate work on wikis. It will no longer support Python 2. Use the python2 tag if you need to continue running Python 2 scripts. The Pywikibot team strongly recommends to migrate to Python 3. You can get help to do so. [2]
The weekly MediaWiki branch cut will soon become automated. The timing for this cut may change. You can discuss in Phabricator if this affects you. [3]
You can read about coming technical events and mentoring interns.

How is calling Rudy Giuliani a liar nonconstructive?
You dell-t (dealt) it. Thanks for reverting the vandalism on Dell Technologies. The most recent IP is blocked. The page was semied for 5 days on 12 January, I have semied it for 2 weeks now. Hope it helps them to calm down. Titodutta (talk) 22:29, 22 January 2020 (UTC)
I noticed that you reverted an edit to Kiev (diff). I don't think that this edit is vandalism. I would like to ask that you take careful consideration of whether this edit is vandalism or not. Interstellarity (talk) 22:07, 23 January 2020 (UTC)
Speedy Deletion?
Hi I'm am not really sure why my page has been nominated for speed deletion. This is my first page. Is it possible to ask why it was deleted? Its incompetent work about a YouTube channel that I follow. I have been collecting info for this page. If i have broken a rule please explain so I can correct it and continue working on my page. Thank you AJ Morpheus D (talk) 01:45, 24 January 2020 (UTC)
Adding 'underlinked' tags to 1992 Scottish council election pages
Hello. Thanks for your efforts to clean up the 10 or so pages I created yesterday. In these edits, you have added an 'underlinked' tag to all of these pages. I was wondering what other links could be added to these pages? They all have links to the Main local election page and the relevant district council page. The election results box also has links to all contesting parties but I would assume that linking to pages such as May 1992 would contravene MOS:OL?
Thanks again for your edits, PinkPanda272 (talk/contribs) 09:41, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi CAPTAIN RAJU! We're so happy you wanted to play to learn, as a friendly and fun way to get into our community and mission. I think these links might be helpful to you as you get started.
The Serengeti ecosystem is a geographical region located in northern Tanzania, Africa. It spans approximately 30,000 km2 (12,000 sq mi), and hosts the second largest terrestrial mammal migration in the world. Pictured is a leopard in a tree in the Serengeti.
Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
Welcome to the 400th Weekly Summary! Here are some interesting Wikidata facts or queries collected by the community and related to the number 400:
Item #400 is Jenna Jameson; Property #400 is platform (software), and Lexeme #400 is "vierhonderd" - Dutch for "four hundred". The QID for the natural number 400 is Q1535396. The QID for the year 400 is Q25621.
The Greek philosopher Hypatia, one of the first women scientists, became head of the Neo-Platonist school at Alexandria, in 400 AD. We include her here in tribute to those working to reduce Wikidata's gender gap.
Duplicate Item copies the current item (without descriptions or sitelinks) to a new item. This tool is useful for splitting items and for making sets of similar items. Recommended for experienced users.

Problems
Some mobile diffs have problems. A couple of buttons are not shown. Structured data diffs on Commons are confusing. The developers are working on fixing it. [4][5]
Administrators on wikis that use Structured Discussions can't move discussion pages. This is a bug. The developers are working on fixing it. [6]
Changes later this week
There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Future changes
There is JavaScript code on Special:Undelete for administrators that makes it possible to automatically select multiple checkboxes by holding the "Shift" key and clicking. This code is also loaded by accident on other special pages and on articles. This makes pages slower to load. This will be fixed. If you know of other special pages where this is useful please tell the developers at phab:T232688.
If anyone is interested in reviewing the code and making suggestions regarding coding style, techniques, or something else, please let me know. See phab:T234507 for more.
Recent additions
I have added basic tests for the script, so bugs should be less likely to make their way to the deployed versions of the script (both the unstable development version, and the stable release version).
If there is an error with the script, the user will be notified and and the console will include a stack trace of the issue.
Translations
Many thanks to those that have contributed translations for the script's messages. Translation takes place at m:User:DannyS712/Global watchlist/Translate, and help is appreciated.
Newly translated messages are added to the script when I notice them; if you have translated messages that aren't showing up, please let me know at m:User talk:DannyS712.
Next release
Version 8.0 was just finalized for the development and stable branches of the script.
Do not move the page of Wendell Comboy on Wikipedia. I am the editor and please do not change because I have a source. In Instagram, Wendell Comboy followed me and I ask him about it. BVM Cabrera (talk) 09:24, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Check your attitude before you post on my Talk page again
Hey chief,
I fixed the capitalization on two letters on the Alfred Cowles article.
Then, what did YOU do?
You came on my Talk page, screaming and threatening that if I "vandalize" the page again, I will be blocked.
Get your facts straight before you come to someone with a false accusation again and threats.
I will ABSOLUTELY NOT BE BULLIED by you!
I have filed a complaint with the Teahouse.
Out of fairness (fairness which you did not afford me, yet I am extending to you), I pinged you on the post so you can read it.
Have a wonderful day. --CherryGonzo77 (talk) 17:41, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi there. Just stopping by with a bit of friendly advice, as I've seen your name pop up in various fora recently. As a result, I took a quick look through recent posts on your talk page and was surprised to see very little attempt by you to respond to some of the concerns expressed there, some of which resulted in the recent WP:ANI thread about your editing. I don't want to pile on about that, but I would respectfully invite you to read and follow the guidance given at Wikipedia:Communication is required.
It's a common courtesy in real life to admit errors, and not to simply ignore them, but to stop and think when multiple people point out issues they have. I also think it's a courtesy we should extend to other editors here on Wikipedia too, don't you? Many thanks, and kind regards, Nick Moyes (talk) 19:26, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Hi
Raju How are you?Can you join with me in Facebook? We have a Wikipedian group in Facebook. We would like to join there? Please let us know you facebook account?
Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.
Technical news
Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [7]
Arbitration
Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.
