Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, C5Roller. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Redalert2fan (talk) 08:39, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Rolling Home (Book)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Rolling Home (Book), requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/rolling-home-austin-charters/1128897994?ean=9781732409316. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. GILO A&E⇑ 21:54, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:13, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Book notability
[edit]Hi! I wanted to explain why the book was nominated for deletion. Ultimately it's because it doesn't pass notability guidelines for books (WP:NBOOK) which can be fairly strict for new and indie books to pass. What's needed for a book to pass NBOOK is coverage such as reviews and articles in independent, reliable sources. Local coverage tends to be greatly depreciated on Wikipedia since local papers are more likely to cover a local author. I don't always agree with that, but it's a very common line of thought on Wikipedia. The coverage should also not be in self-published sources like blogs. E-commerce sites like Amazon and social media platforms like Goodreads aren't usable either. Here's a guide to notability for books that should be helpful. I won't lie, however - as an independently released book it's going to be extremely difficult to get the needed coverage to pass NBOOK. Not impossible, mind you, just harder.
Now all of that said, here's what I recommend in general for getting your book talked about:
- Go to Goodreads. You can't use that site as a source, but you can use it to get readers by holding a giveaway through the site. To win a copy the users will have to put your book on their "to read" list. It's not a guarantee that they'll pick it up, but the effort that they will have to put into becoming eligible will make them look over the work more than they may otherwise do if they saw it pop up randomly on Amazon. Generally most social media platforms for books like LibraryThing will offer this, but Goodreads always seems to be the most visible. (I'd offer this on as many platforms as you can, though.)
- Reach out to book bloggers. Like Goodreads, you can't use them as sources but word of mouth is very key and a book that gains a lot of attention in the book blogging world can attract the attention of more mainstream press and review outlets. Avoid any paid review service like the plague. They give positive reviews (the vast majority do) but they kind of tend to discredit the author some since they're also pretty obvious. Instead go for services like Netgalley and Edelweiss. I'm not sure what they charge, but what they do is distribute electronic copies of your book to bloggers and reviewers. The risk of someone not reviewing your book is minimal since a lot of these sites tend to be less likely to give out review copies if the person doesn't follow through on their end.
- Be very careful of awards. This isn't really a tip on how to get your book looked at as much as it's a warning about predatory award scams. Writer Beware has a lot on this here and here. Read over the comments as well. Basically, there are a lot of places out there that will get you to enter their contests in order to sell you something or to charge an exorbitant fee to submit your work. They will make the award seem really exclusive and prestigious... when in actuality everyone gets a prize or the rate of winning is so high that the prize is essentially meaningless. There are a lot of writers, both newbies and experienced ones, that fall for these. There's an article that goes over this on here a bit as well at vanity award.
I hope all of this helps! ReaderofthePack (。◕‿◕。) 21:43, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
