WikiProject Malware
Thank You for your interest in WikiProject Malware. I welcome any help you can provide. The project is not quite dead, but its responsibilities have more or less been absorbed by the WikiProject Computing/Computer and Information Security task force . We could use your help on both projects. Feel free to contact me if you would like to work on anything in particular. Sephiroth storm (talk) 12:53, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
I only joined a month before you did, and it was pretty dead then too. Only about 20 articles were actually assigned to the wikiproject: I manually did the 200 others we have now. I'm not good in writing articles, I'm more of a typo-fixer (a WikiGnome). I'm happy to assist you whenever you need help, but I'm not the best choice to be a mentor though. --DanielPharos (talk) 15:17, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- About the mentor thing: I just wanted to be clear what kind of editor I am, to prevent any misunderstandings. Now that that is clear; I read your merge-proposal and commented on it. I'm actually leaning towards supporting it, but I'm having trouble with (at least) one issue: if the two are merged, wouldn't that mean the death of Malware? I mean, 'Computer Security' is such a large topic, with a lot of theoretical articles, that the simple virii, trojan etc. articles would become a background thing. So maybe this is a better idea: promote the Security taskforce to that 'Computer Security' wikiproject, and make Malware a taskforce inside that. I think that would be a better arrangement, and keep it also let's Malware keeps it's "niche area" status. --DanielPharos (talk) 14:27, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Redundant images
When you encounter a redundant image such as File:MSMAL.gif, please do not tag it for speedy deletion with {{db-redundantimage}}. That tag only applies when the two images are in the same file format (both JPG or both PNG, for example). If it is already tagged as an orphan, it will be deleted in a week or so. If it isn't tagged as a orphan, you can tag it with {{Subst:Orfud}}, which turns into {{Di-orphaned fair use}} with a date. If you are the uploader, you can tag the image with {{db-g7}} "The author of the only substantial content has requested deletion in good faith" -- Eastmain (talk) 01:42, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you, will make note of that in later imagery work. --blurpeace (talk - contributions) 05:32, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
New image project
Hi. This little form letter is just a courtesy notice to let you know that a proposal to merge the projects Wikipedia:WikiProject Free images, Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use, Wikipedia:WikiProject Moving free images to Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia:WikiProject Illustration into the newly formed Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media has met with general support at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Files. Since you're on the rosters of membership in at least one of those projects, I thought you might be interested. Conversation about redirecting those projects is located here. Please participate in that discussion if you have any interest, and if you still have interest in achieving the goals of the original project, we'd love to have you join in. If you aren't interested in either the conversation or the project, please pardon the interruption. :) Thanks. Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:46, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

After reviewing your contributions and your reasoning, I've accepted your request. I believe you can be trusted to use rollback correctly, ie its intended usage of reverting vandalism only. For information on rollback see: Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback in the future, just let me or any admin know. Cheers. Page blanked by author
Hi. Though page blanking is usually vandalism and needs to be reverted, it is worth looking first at the page history, because quite often the author has blanked his own page, as with Gbf golf ball finder just now. In those cases the best thing is to tag it {{db-author}}. It can be confusing for an author who realises his page is inappropriate and blanks it, if his page is at once restored and he is accused of vandalism for the blanking and told it was unconstructive. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:51, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

HELP!!?!?!!
I deleted the content not out of vandalism but because I thought the page was going to be deleted. I was trying to move the page "Nerd Pride Day" to "Geek Pride Day" but it said that that page already existed. This move must be done because that is the proper usage in English. While the original holiday might be literally translated as "Nerd", it is know as, and mainly referred to as "Geek Pride Day" in the English speaking world. In western culture, nerds are usually coined by others derogatively, and geeks are coined personally as a title. Please help me make this move. TekBoi [Ali Kilinc] (talk) 20:01, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know much about the topic, but what I would recommend is visiting the Nerd Pride Day talk page, and asking about it there. See if you can gain consensus among other editors for this action, and they can make the move for you (if it is accepted). Happy editing! blurredpeace ☮ 20:06, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi!
You recently replaced the old hard-coded infobox with a proper infobox template (which is great, thanks for doing that). My question is: there was recently a discussion at the talk page about using "Pop. density" instead of "Density", as Europe has it. Is there a way to do that with Template:Infobox Continent? I had a quick peak, but couldn't see if it was possible (but I'm by no means an infobox guru...)

My space versus "live"
Hi Blurpeace, thanks for your offer to adopt....
Clearly Wikipedia has its own "rules and tools" and I'm trying to learn them as quickly as possible. One thing however, seems pretty vague and that's the "subpage" (test) experience versus moving an article to "live" status. The help directions are a little sketchy on this.
I'm actually starting a NEW article and would like to make sure I do it right (referencing all supporting sources, etc.) before publishing.
Thanks!

Rollback
I saw you rolled back a couple of edits: maybe I should have rolled back List of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's characters instead of placing the tag there--but that whole article and its history are so messy that I couldn't separate the wheat from the chaff. That IP currently "editing" it, well, word's [sic] fail me. Drmies (talk) 18:39, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe. I was a little unsure of what to do, but in the end I decided that I should remove it with a small notification about factual inaccuracies before we continue. - Tell me how you would have edited keeping 'director' there? --Status quo not acceptable (talk) 01:01, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- Hello again Status quo. Let me try to explain the reasoning behind the edits. The way our software works is, once you've accumulated a certain amount of warnings, the warnings become more generalized (as to why the software warned you of straight vandalism; rather than editing tests, as I had chosen). I'm not sure which article you're speaking of, so I wouldn't know, but if it was deleted that quickly, it must have been a speedy deletion. Please read that page to check whether your page matched the criteria for speedy deletion. Also, the reason why we removed director was because it seemed like an editing test. It was two nouns in one section, and that was bad grammar (thus we removed one; rather than keeping and adding it). I hope this explains everything clearly. Once again, welcome to the encyclopedia and happy editing! blurredpeace ☮ 01:14, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- Tell me how you would have edited keeping 'director' there? --Status quo not acceptable (talk) 01:01, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm not asking all these explainations. How were you edited that? and edit and put it back him as the director. I would appreciate it. After my editings, "He was head of the department of mathematics, university of Mumbai and the founder director of the center of advanced study in mathematics, Mumbai since its inception in 1963 until he retired in 1978." Before my editings, "He was head of the department of mathematics, university of Mumbai and the director of the center of advanced study in mathematics, Mumbai since its inception in 1963 until he retired in 1978." The other gentleman(Administrator) was drunk, I belive. I was writing an new one K. Chandrasekharan and I had just started it. He reminded me that I'm copying - well I was using a source which he belived that I'm copying. I was using it as a source and making edit to reflect it is not a copy. --Status quo not acceptable (talk) 01:27, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- You had questioned why the software called it vandalism; I was answering your questions. Sadly, I won't return "founder" there, as it looks bad. That whole sentence needs to be reworded, as it almost looks like a run-on. Something's wrong grammar wise. Might I recommend cutting the sentence in half, placing relevant information on both sides of a semicolon? blurredpeace ☮ 01:40, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
- For this silly thing, someone treated it as a vanadalism? It is too much. Some other editors (WORDS) will pass this. Weierd guy warned me that my account will be called. Who cares for this dirty job? This whole wiki business is a dirty one - who does get into this? Bad people like you and me. I'm writing articles on my own risk. Delete a revision
{{adminhelp}}
Hello administrator. I've been mulling this over for some time on what request I should make and I've finally decided that I'm going to request to have a single revision deleted rather than having it oversighted (as the page is around seven hundred revisions; not over one thousand yet, per here). I'd like to have this revision deleted; I wouldn't usually request for vandalism to be removed in this manner, as it's unnecessary, but the vandalism shows in the edit summary (which makes it impossible to edit, and can be seen directly on the "History" tab of the page). The edit was also reverted just a little while after for being incorrect (the content added to the article). Thank you for any input, or any help provided. blurredpeace ☮ 00:26, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

User 66.67.66.55
I noticed you have reverted edits by 66.67.66.55. If you look at this person's history, you will see this has been a huge problem for many months. May I ask politely that you also report them to admin, and especially if they have violated 3RR - so they will FINALLY be blocked. I have tried so hard to hold my temper, and am very tired of Admin letting people like this get away with the vandalism because they weren't caught within 5 minutes. I've warned them, others have also. It does no good to warn them, as they just wait 2 or 3 days and start up again. If you check the Lindsay Monroe pages (in Characters, Anna Belknap and other pages) I believe you will also be able to see what appears to be sockpuppeting by this person. Even if you ONLY make a report on the vandalism and 3RR violation, I think it will help. I have reported it enough, and I don't think Admin is paying attention. Thank you so much. Trista (cannot log in at work, but am now the only one who uses this IP in my office) 24.176.191.234 (talk) 20:53, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Trista. The user is seemingly trying to make constructive edits, but s/he's not discussing his actions on the talk page (or our other forms of communication). Blocks on Wikipedia are only carried out as a preventative measure, to protect the encyclopaedia, and should never be used for purposes of punishment. My view on it is, he's a new editor trying to make his way and help out (s/he just needs some nudging in the right direction). I think I'll leave him/her a short message. Also, please remember not to bite the newcomers (I've removed your shout warning to the IP address). blurredpeace ☮ 22:47, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- My apologies about the shout warning, but if you look at this person's history, you might notice they have been warned politely - by me - and they keep on putting up the same (mis)informtion. They are also not very new. I'm sorry, but I am just very frustrated - and don't want to get into trouble myself for violating 3RR. I also feel very sure they are using other IP's for this, as I have tracked the other addresses the Messer business is coming from and identical edits to the CSI and NCIS pages are being made. Thanks for your help. Trista 24.176.191.234 (talk) 00:58, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- What I can say is, don't revert the changes (or revert the article before the edits were made, and ask for a lock from an administrator until things can be discussed). Rather, try to open a dialogue with the user(s) explaining your concerns in a kind and civil manner; kindness can get you far in these situations. The user(s) haven't made any edits since my last revert (for unexplained removal of content) so if they makes some controversial edits again, we'll start from there. blurredpeace ☮ 01:17, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'll do it your way. By the way, I am not the Trista you have been leaving messages for. As I mentioned, I cannot log it at work at this time - I can only use my IP address. Cheers, Trista 24.176.191.234 (talk) 01:36, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hi Afisair, since I think we got off to a rocky start, let's try discussion. First, might I recommend you read our civility policy, and assume good faith guideline? The addition of this sentence, "It was really good," constitutes what we would call a point of view (POV) edit. Wikipedia has a policy on taking a neutral point of view (NPOV) in articles, which basically means that we have to represent everyone's views fairly and without bias. If you believe that your edit was correct, might I recommend making additions to the reception section of the article, and sourcing your content? Thanks for making additions to the encyclopedia. blurredpeace ☮ 22:08, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, now I'll admit that the "really good" does sound biased (even though anyone that has ever come into contact with that game will agree) but where do you get off removing that part about the criticism? The game, and its predecessor, have been getting attention for the dozens of references to mature themes. Look it up yourself before trying to destroy other people's efforts. Look, I am going to go work on the article for gumdrops now. I'm gonna make it more comprehensive.
You go deleting stuff off of there for no good reason, then I might actually get off my behind and read all about your policies and things so I can have my work posted and recognized for the meaningful content it is, without someone trying to infringe on my intellectual material.-Good Day, ser.- I just wanna say I'm sorry for all the pain I've caused you, bro.
- It's quite alright Afisair; I'm happy we could reach some form of understand about the situation. I knew you meant no harm from the start; anyone would be agitated with my actions. Let's put this behind us and work towards what both of our main goals are; to improve the encyclopedia. *smile* --Blurpeace (talk) 12:25, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

(unindent) If you'd like to get a better understanding of how this place functions internally, and how to help out more efficiently, might I recommend that you join up with the adopt-a-user program, as an adoptee? You'll receive mentoring from an experienced editor, who is versed in Wikipedia procedures, policies, and guidelines. You'd have to stay consistently active in helping the project, but that shouldn't be too hard if you're truly interested in helping out (you'll get addicted eventually). If you'd like, I'd be happy to adopt you (I'm currently a mentor that contributes to the program). Let me know your response. Also, just as a note, I recommend that you start signing of your comments (by typing --~~~~ after all your responses); it's a guideline that everyone follows. --Blurpeace (talk) 15:59, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

NPOV on medical drug articles
You made a comment on the duloxetine talk page "If at all, the article can be worded better, as to not disparage its subject". This page and the page for paroxetine suffer from page ownership and biased pov issues. The wording makes it appear that the medications are harmful. After reading them, it is hard to understand why the medications are so popular. They highlight any medical reference critical of the drugs but supress evidence in favor of the drugs. Your input would be appreciated. Fndlytrucker (talk) 22:43, 23 June 2009 (UTC)fndlytrucker

Collaboration
First off, thanks for replacing the "looking for an adopter" userbox to "adopted by Blurpeace". :-)
Secondly, do you know any places that are more collaborative, than new page, recent changes, and random page patrol?
Thirdly, how do you do that collapsible box thing?--I dream of horses (talk) 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- No problem on the userbox edit. Explain a bit more on what you meant by collaborative; WikiProject's are usually a good venue for that sort of thing (e.g. the Guild of Copy Editors). You may be looking for the Counter Vandalism Unit. You can create collapsible boxes (as seen on my user pages) with the two templates {{hidden begin}} and {{hidden end}}. See their respective documentation pages here and here. Hope that helps. blurredpeace ☮ 02:11, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- I just added a CVU userbox.
- What I mean by "collaborative" is a place where you kind of have to interact with other people to reach a certain goal (like, in Wikiprojects, and CVU I assume). That's a bit much of me to ask, but you planted enough of a seed in my mind that I think I can pick it up from here. Not sure why I thought of it myself. D'oh! Thanks, I dream of horses (talk) 02:30, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
- Now that's much more specific; thanks for expanding. Wikipedia has what we refer to as noticeboards where editors gather together to centralize discussion. We also use the village pump for similar reasons. The administrators' noticeboard and the administrators' noticeboard for incidents are two well known places for discussion. If you'd like further comments on things that you're doing (such as content issues, or comments on a policy that isn't changing something major) you can call a request for comments. Hope that helps. blurredpeace ☮ 02:52, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

- Let me tell you something rather personal and strange. I have a very ironic mind. If I am initiating something, a skill I have some difficulty with (and great difficulty doing verbally), I am often not very specific. Past mentorship
I have noticed that you have accepted a false statement in a discussion about me as if it were fact. Ecoleetage did not terminate his mentorship of me because he thought it was a "failure" or because it "failed" or because I "failed", etc. He ended it because he thought it was no longer necessary, because he thought it had succeeded (the opposite). Please examine his own comments in the linked previous AN/I: it was an incident report filed by Orderinchaos that apparently you have apparently not read. Ecoleetage explains there that on the basis of praise from editors like Keeper (see Keeper's barnstar/comments on my own userpage), Ecoleetage felt that his mentorship of me was no longer necessary. The false allegations in Orderinchao's "incident" report are disproved in the comments by both me and Ecoleetage throughout it; see Keeper's comments as well. Please see my own current talk page User talk:NYScholar#Summary and archived talk pages about this matter, where I address the matter. I will not be commenting further to Orderinchaos there. Intruding
There was a bit of a 'situation' where I, while on new page patrol, tagged a page for speedy deletion, the tag was deleted and readded, and then the article was eventually sent to AfD. In the midst of this, three people felt a need to contact me on my talk page (I responded to all, of course). The last two people who contacted me apologized for "intruding". It seems that they thought that I was conversing only with the first person who contacted me. I told them that it was a mild example of WP:BOLD, and that they didn't need to apologize. You can look at the bottom my talk page if this is all confusing.
My question is, what's the etiquette for "intruding" on a user talk page? Should I apologize? --I dream of horses (talk) 23:48, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- My apologies for being slow in reply; I've been working with an editing project on IRC recently and I haven't got a chance to answer my talk page. Anyhow, I believe it mostly depends on the editor and who's talk page you're "butting in on." Editors are meant to be civil at all times, but it's always good etiquette to request permission (the exception being, if you knew that person or you had prior discussions, etc). Something like, "If I may comment," would be good to start out with. I try to get by on intuition and common sense; I ask myself the question, "How would I react if I read this comment?" For me, that's the best coordinator. –blurpeace (talk) 12:43, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Ryan Sidebottom
First of all my editing of Ryan Sidebottoms' page is not vandalism (it's spelt with an s thank you very much). I happen to work with a close personal friend of his - they have played cricket together - and he has told me that one of his nicknames in the dressing room is indeed "Sexual Deviant" as a play on "Sexual Chocolate" due to his, shall we tactly say, unsual sexual preferences. This is a much more valid source than the resource you reference (some newspaper article - and they're notoriously reliable) so I am at a loss as to why you think my addition of a nickname is not as valid as yours.
As for Ricky Ponting, have you ever seen him on television? He is very arrogant and his eyes are too close together, so why remove these factual statements? 194.126.226.253 (talk) 12:22, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
- Your personal experiences may contribute to a conflict of interest; if you can cite your sources, and we can verify that the sources are correct, then you can add the information. Otherwise, it is information added to a biography of a living person, and we have certain standards for those types of articles. Your personal opinion of Ricky Ponting is not to be added; we only represent a neutral point of view on Wikipedia. –blurpeace (talk) 14:36, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Signpost quality
- See original message here.
Thanks for your message. I'm curious how, specifically, you see the Signpost falling short lately. In terms of some of the regular features that have been absent and some of the occasional features that have been rare, that's indeed a function of how many writers are active in any given week and how much work they put in. If you're talking about the quality of what does get published, rather than what's missing, let me know and I'll try to address it.--ragesoss (talk) 05:47, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! We can always use more good writers. In terms of regular features, the discussion report is I think the most important one that could use help. Drilnoth writes it off and on, but not on a regular basis (and it's one that's conducive to collaboration), so you could sign up for that beat if you're interested. WikiProject reports are something that are not usually as time-sensitive, so if that's something you're interested in you could work independently without worrying about stepping on the toes of Cryptic C62, who has been the main person doing that feature lately. If you like doing book reviews, let me know and I can try to get a review copy of something for you. If you want to try to do an interview with a WMF employee or someone else, that's another project that's not as time-constrained as the weekly features. The tech report is a vital feature that was missing this week, but even though Aude skips a week now and then she usually does a great job with it (and some weeks are just slow on the tech front and can be covered fine in a double edition the next week), and the Arbitration report and Features and admins are pretty reliable. And of course, contributions to News and notes and In the news are always appreciated, but Phoebe and I, along with whoever contributes week to week, can usually keep up with those.--ragesoss (talk) 00:06, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Sorry about that. I do know that such comments should go on talk, but as the template didn't very specifically cover the issues, I thought this was a situation where a discreetly placed comment below it would be (IAR-style) appropriate, so the next editor might have a clue as to what I meant... and not revert me ;)
- Thanks, I do that all the time on Wikiquote to hide copyright comments / information in the article because we're having brutal copy-vio issues over there and trying to clean them up is an uphill battle (on a treadmill...).

I understand that you do not want the names of the participants shown as you believe that the dispute today is unrelated to the original round table recording and all the participants in it. But - why do you keep removing my comment (which does not include any names) describing the origination of the dispute in my reply to Will Beback? I thought that Will and others would like more background. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents&diff=316438198&oldid=316438044 Can you please take my comment out of the collapsed section and put it back into the regular section.

File permission problem with File:1stCBDWendyMichaelGigi.jpg
We are terribly sorry if we did not appropriately tag the above labeled photo (we thought we had). We have permission from and the photo was given to us by the owner and one of the subjects Wendy Curry. The photo was used to illustrate Celebrate Bisexuality Day and you will note she is also a subject of that article as well as being a notable American Social Activist. Can you just restore it so we may mark it correctly or should we reload it?
Thanks CyntWorkStuff (talk) 22:42, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hello CyntWorkStuff, if you could insert into the Facebook image's caption, "This file is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License. See a full description here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/.", that'd be great. Don't worry too much about it as I've already had an administrator restore the file. Thank you for your contributions to the encyclopedia. –blurpeace (talk) 00:23, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
- Also, did you take this picture? As in, this is your own work? –blurpeace (talk) 00:26, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Thank you all for putting it back up and sorry my bad for not getting back to you all and completing the necessary documentation in a timely manner.
- I did not take the picture. It is a snapshot taken for one of the subject Wendy Curry who's property it is. Ms. Curry who is a Board Member Emeritus of BiNet USA donated it specifically to be used to document the history of the modern Bisexual/Fluid/Pansexual movement in the USA. Ms. Curry and BiNet USA are more than pleased to have it used to inform the Celebrate Bisexuality Day article and clearly understand that people will (and actually already have) liberally "share" it around the Internet. CyntWorkStuff (talk) 18:15, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
- OK I'm confused again (I always have trouble with graphics permissions - sigh) it looks as if almost all the data is already in there, except for some sort of warning about who took the photo. I will try to find that out, but is it ok now? If not tell me what should be done. Thanks again CyntWorkStuff (talk) 07:36, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- Don't stress too much over it. Remember, we're all volunteers here. Now, the person who took the photograph, were they working for Wendy Curry at the time? If so, then there would be an automatic transfer of copyright to Curry, as it was a work ordered to be made by an employer. If that is not the case, then the photographer is the holder of the copyright, and we need to confirm that they released the rights. In the latter case, we either need to have the photographer hold an official BiNet USA email, or have them transfer the copyright to Curry legally. The end result being that we need to have a message on record, through our WP:OTRS system, stating that the copyright holder really did release the rights. –blurpeace (talk) 16:57, 6 October 2009 (UTC)
- FYI I am trying to get in touch with Wendy Curry about the photo. However, I do not believe the person was an employee of BiNet USA as much as just someone taking a snapshot. CyntWorkStuff (talk) 23:45, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Spotlight Newsletter - October

Join the collaboration, in the IRC chat room!
Wikiproject After great success with Marco Polo (and his sheep!), Dry ice went pretty well. USS Massachusetts (BB-59) was challenging, and with Monkey, the project faded: Battle of the Nobles and Oil got little attention. |
We need your help! Spotlight is a collaboration - it works really well when lots of people get involved. It doesn't matter what skills you bring, because between us, we can do great things. Even if you make one, simple edit - if 100 people do that, we'll have made significant progress, and we all benefit by learning from each other. |
Current article This time, we've created a brand-new article, and between us we're confident of achieving a Did you know... on the main page, and work towards getting the article rated as C-class or B-class. |
Father Aengus Finucane died on 6 October at the age of 77; he was an Irish priest who did lots of work helping refugees of world conflicts, and was the head of the charity Concern. There are plenty of reliable sources, so it should be easy to write this - so please help out by editing the article. |
Stop press: Aengus Finucane just appeared on the main page

You're invited!
New York City Meetup |
In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, review the recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, plan for the next stages of projects like Wikipedia at the Library and Wikipedia Loves Landmarks, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, for example particular problems posed by Wikipedia articles about racist and anti-semitic people and movements (see the September meeting's minutes).
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.
You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

The 2010 WikiCup begins tomorrow!
Welcome to the biggest WikiCup Wikipedia has yet seen! Round one will take place over two months, and finish on February 26. There is only one pool, and the top 64 will progress. The competition will be tough, as more than half of the current competitors will not make it to round 2. Details about scoring have been finalized and are explained at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. Please make sure you're familiar with the scoring rules, because any submissions made that violate these rules will be removed. Like always, the judges can be reached through the WikiCup talk pages, on their talk page, or over IRC with any issues concerning anything tied to the Cup. We will keep in contact with you via weekly newsletters; if you do not want to receive them, please remove yourself from the list here. Conversely, if a non-WikiCup participant wishes to receive the newsletters, they may add themselves to that list. Well, enough talk- get writing! Your submission's page is located here. Details on how to submit your content is located here, so be sure to check that out! Once content has been recognized, it can be added to your submissions page, from which our bot will update the main score table. Remember that only articles worked on and nominated during the competition are eligible for points. Have fun, and good luck! Garden, iMatthew, J Milburn, and The ed17 19:16, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
