Sanitarium
Why did you revert my edit? I understand that you said "Nothing wrong using redirect", but I have spent three hours trying to get rid of all of the redirects to Metallica songs. I am not going to revert your edit, because I do not want to get into an edit war. yawaraey (talk) 01:08, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) @Yawaraey: As Bkonrad has said, there is nothing wrong with using redirects - and, much more seriously, every entry in a disambiguation page needs to have a link to an article which mentions the topic. This can be done via a redirect, as at Sanitarium, or it can be a blue link later in the entry which leads to the article. But if you remove all links from a disambiguatin page entry, the entry becomes an invalid dab page entry and may be removed altogether. I see you removed a link from the disambiguation page entry at Anesthesia (disambiguation). I've reverted you there. If you look at Blackening you can see the alternative way to link to a song, probably more informative for the reader than just using the redirect. But please do not remove redirect links from dab pages without leaving an alternative link which justifies the existence of the mention of that song on the dab page. Please now go back and correct all the dab page entries where you have removed links through redirects, as you have broken the encyclopedia in this small way. I don't know why you have "spent three hours trying to get rid of all of the redirects to Metallica songs", but in terms of disambiguation pages, at least, you seem to have been wasting your time on a well-intended but destructive mission. Please go back and fix these entries. Thanks. PamD 07:40, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- I did not intend to break the disambiguation pages. One of Metallica's songs got turned into a redirect, so I wanted to remove the links to that and then I noticed more articles of theirs that were turned into redirects, so I wanted to remove the links to those, etc. Before I knew it it had been three hours. yawaraey (talk) 14:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Yawaraey: But the idea of a redirect is that the reader will get some information, even if not a full article - in the case of songs it will show what album it was on, and other bits of information. By eliminating the redirect you give the reader less information. I may be missing something here, but I just can't see the point in your project. But for disambiguation pages in particular, please just don't do it, unless you want to end up with the reader having no access to any information about the existence of the song if they type its name, like Blackened or Anesthesia. PamD 19:49, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- @PamD: I understand where you're coming from with the disambiguation pages. I do not understand having redirects on articles like this, where the song redirects to the article it is already on. I also don't understand having them on album articles in general. There are redirects for all of Metallica's song that don't have articles, except for "Through the Never", "Bad Seed" and "Invisible Kid". Every song on their live albums could be linked, but what would be the point? I am not going to do more edits for redirects, I just wanted to reply. yawaraey (talk) 02:58, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Yawaraey: I quite agree about removing "circular" redirects like those in tracklists, but you have removed so many more: why shouldn't the reader of List of guitar tunings be able to find out anything about the Metallica song mentioned? And are you going to mend the disambiguation pages you have broken? PamD 05:40, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- @PamD: I thought I already fixed the disambiguation pages yesterday. I didn't think you were talking about list pages. If that's what you want me to do, I won't have much time to do them today. yawaraey (talk) 15:58, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Yawaraey: Thanks for fixing the dab pages. I'm genuinely puzzled why you think the reader of, for example, Beatallica is better served if the song title The Thing That Should Not Be doesn't link to the article Master of Puppets which contains information about the song. But I'm not a rock music editor, just a puzzled watcher of Bkonrad's page who takes an interest in disambiguation. Ah well. Happy Editing. PamD 14:12, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- @PamD: I went back and undid all of my edits to Beatallica's articles. I think I reverted everything I needed to. yawaraey (talk) 14:46, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Mea culpa -- logical quotes
Just noticed I made a bad edit to the Sandman disambiguation a few days ago and you reverted it. This is just to say thanks, my bad. On a related note, today I learned about logical quotation. Wemedgefrodis (talk) 06:36, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Writing the year of release in brackets is just as much WP "standard" and often used as using the author's name, so your redirect wasn't incorrect, but its necessity could be argued about.
Could you please at least apply for a speedy deletion of your faulty Crimson (Sato novel) redirect so it doesn't show up in the search field (as it does now) and confuse WP users? Thanks. --Robert Kerber (talk) 10:28, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Robert Kerber WP:BOOKDAB defines standard disambiguation for books. Other types of subject may use year as a standard term, but it is not the recommended approach for literary works. older ≠ wiser 10:50, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Shouldn't this be at Crimson (novel) as there is no other novel from which to distinguish it? That's my reading of WP:BOOKDAB but I hesitate to WP:BOLDly move it in case I'm missing something... PamD 11:40, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- PamD Yes, you're right. While there are other books with the title, none have an article, and it will take a bit of checking to see if they are even mentioned on an author's article. older ≠ wiser 13:59, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- So I moved it ... and then looked more closely at the dab page and decided as there were two other novels it made more sense for Crimson (novel) to redirect to the dab page, so I moved the Sata novel back again. Sorry about that. PamD 14:31, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Rats disambiguation query
Hi Bkonrad! My apologies if I’ve been causing you any trouble, I am new to Wikipedia as a user and have recently been trying to add a song I wrote with a friend of mine to the ‘Rats disambiguation’ page and believe it is being reverted, and I could only notice your page linked, If you could let me know what I am doing wrong it would be very helpful as I don’t understand where I am out of line. I have no ill intentions through this message and if it does need to stay removed I can understand and will oblige, adding it to page was only supposed to be a small gift for my friend it was written with, nothing at all serious.
Thankyou, Peace & Love - Brodie — Preceding unsigned comment added by CapaldiP (talk • contribs) 03:52, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
