Hi Bhadaniji - As you said that you are studying the proposal, I ask for your help in making this a practical, realistic solution and correcting its problems. You are an experienced administrator, and I definitely need an administrator's input. I will immediately incorporate any suggestions you give that can make this a workable policy. I honestly feel that this is a good idea, but to build a consensus, I need your help. Rama's Arrow 16:32, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My study and contemplation over the matter and issues raised are almost over – I shall present them tomorrow. --Bhadani 16:36, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

[edit]

Thank you for voting on my RfA, it passed with a final tally of 68/0/0 so I'm now an administrator. If there's anything I can do to help, you feel I've done something wrong, or there's just something you want to tell, don't hesitate to use my talk page. Thanks. - Bobet 10:40, 1 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Idleguy

[edit]

Bhadani, thank you for your queries on the nomination page. I left a response for you at Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship/Idleguy. Cheers, SlimVirgin (talk) 06:41, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your exhaustive comments and Idleguy’s similarly elaborate clarifications. I read the discussion very carefully, and also understood the issues to the best of my knowledge. Perhaps matter does not require my comments, so I am maintaining a considered silence as silence is sometimes more musical then music! The issues have perhaps been sufficiently dealt with: we are here for fun and enjoy our wiki-existence. So cheers and let us continue our work here to create the sum total of human knowledge. --Bhadani 16:56, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I think you misunderstood. Fun is not allowed. SlimVirgin (talk) 17:04, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Now, you are making fun of me and I am enjoying it without any remorse like a shameless creature trapped inside the project wikipedia. Actually, I have used the word fun in the sense of enjoyment which one gets while working here, and not in its literal sense. I like the crispness and the professional attitude, which you display. Now, please do not tell that Bhadani is joking! I am very serious in the most serious sense!! --Bhadani 17:17, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please see the article Bagha Jatin and its talk page (and also the history) ? Some disputes going on that page.See if you can comment and mediate.Thank you.--Dwaipayanc 08:54, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your suggestion. Right now, it is getting late in India. Ishall see it very carefully very soon. --Bhadani 17:40, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx...

[edit]

...for your and Rama's support on my adminship. I personally don't see it as a war for adminship. I rather view it as another interesting phase with editors (some I have hardly met or interacted with before) expressing their views, both for and against me. I think that if a person is judged on what transpired in the past then I'm afraid if I run for the post even after 1 year, the situation wouldn't change. Interestingly, atleast one editor who voted oppose - Anonymous editor - was accused of serious abuses and POV warring against other editors (more serious than mine) during his first unsuccessful nomination for adminship and just 2 months later his past deeds were forgotten. My incidents took place 3-4 months back and yet a sizeable number of the editors have voted negatively. Hmmm....

So my take on this is that irrespective of what changes you make, when you stand for adminship for the first time you are odds on favourite to lose - unless one is goody goody or is involved in editing humdrum articles - then come back to win the second time around. The second time you are forgiven even within weeks, but if one makes changes the first time itself, it is seen as suspect. And I've seen this happen on more than a couple of times, so I'm not making any pessimistic statements. I've observed this even in real life. My odds of winning right now are as good as Scotland lifting the Cricket World cup :P , but since you guys want the nomination to continue, we'll see. But more than adminship, it's the thrill of editing Wikipedia that I am here for. Cheers. Idleguy 03:17, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is the precise reason that so many good people live wikipedia. Who knows if such stubborn attitude persists, I may also decide to live. I am a very well settled person, and may pass my time in something still better than adjusting to whims and fancies of persons who have the attitude of holier than thou! --Bhadani 13:11, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry, I won't leave Wikipedia unless i become "un-idle" (gulp!) and being an ordinary editor would actually enable me to contribute to articles instead of cleanup work etc. So if there is a positive consensus, we'd have one more admin for India related articles. If not, I'd still be editing the way I was - idleness permitting. In this case, I'm an eternal optimist so ANY result will be a good one. :-) The only thing disconcerting during the voting process is the double standards adopted by some editors. Idleguy 03:30, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am not worried at all - I am simply surprized! --Bhadani 11:34, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was uggested that I got in touch with you.I am very new to Wiki.I hope to learn as I go on.It would be something as I am computer illiterate and just about browse.

Nobel winners are all listed here. But what about America's most prestigious honour after Nobels i.e. Fellowship of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.Quite a few remain unlisted I note.I was intrigued to note that the Academy has 175 Nobel Laureates on its roll at present. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vr (talkcontribs) of 4th March 2006

As a part of Wikiproject Stub sorting, I came across these pages fit enough to be transwikied to Wictionary. Unforunately I didn't understand the procedure even after reading the help pages. Can you help me. The pages are:

Below is appended my greetings being sent to some of the fellow wikipedians on the occasion of Holi:

Hi, I am wishing you a happy Holi, the unique Hindu celebration of color and brotherhood among all members of the humanity. The festival falls on 15th March 2006. I have collected A Gift Pack of Quotationsfor you contained in the sections DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY and SOMETHING MORE, which are part of the on-going discussion pertaining to my nomination of Idleguy for adminship. You are aware of the tradition that if you throw colored water on flames of burning Holika, you enable a Prahlad to emerge from the flames!!! I again convey Holi greetings to you and your family!!! --Bhadani 14:16, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation

[edit]

I'm stepping in to mediate the dispute between you and AE. Let's cut out the drama here as it won't be doing any good to anyone, or the project. Firstly, rest assured, I know your intentions of the Holi greetings were noble, but they were horribly mismatched and mistimed. This is what AE was trying to raise, but he did not tactfully do it, and you misunderstood him.

Placement: The quotations were placed on the talk page of Idleguy's RFA talk. Since you had linked the greetings on everybody's talk to an RFA talk page, it is seen as a tacit canvassing for votes. This issue has been brought up many times before so please don't think that it applies to this particular case only.
Timing: Holi is still a few days away and idleguy's nomination has still to be ended. RFAs are a sensitive issue and any slight misendemors by the candidate or the nominee often lead to a slew of oppose votes.

Please reconsider leaving, it is not a personal attack, its just a round of misunderstood words. I shall speak to AE soon. Also, I suggest that you do not reply to further posts on the RFA, let Idleguy handle fight the matter for the community to judge him.

Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:56, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What the....

[edit]

Bhadaniji, I know you are angry at AE and frustrated with Wikipedia's functioning problems, but you are the last person I ever thought would throw in the towel. Please don't go - this would be a very serious loss indeed for all of us.

I support you - I don't believe you did anything wrong (and definitely that you never desired to do anything illegitimate). Life always questions and pokes at the most important and emotional issues to each of us, and its pure courage to keep living despite any/all provocation. Rabindranath Tagore told Gandhi that even if nobody listened to him or followed his ideas, he should stick at it himself. Gandhi did not leave despite having literally millions of opponents. So why should AE or anybody else cause you to leave?

Its never acceptable to back down from what one loves to do or believes in. Even if you are completely ostracized, never quit. Please calm down and know that you are the most highly-respected Indian on Wikipedia - the captain of our ship. Rama's Arrow 18:38, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bhadani, I agree with Rama here. I really admire your contributions to wikipedia, and you are the epitome of politness. To be frank, you are the most polite wikipedian I've ever met here. Please don't get angry at AE's words. Remember, there were hundreds of people who spoke ill of Gandhiji, but he stuck to his way of politeness, because in the end, truth and politeness triumphs everything. So, drop the matter, and Move on. Thanks. --Ragib 18:42, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, I strongly agree with Rama's Arrow and Ragib. There's no doubt on the very high respect you command. deeptrivia (talk) 19:25, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just thought I should share this here:

"When another person makes you suffer, it is because he suffers deeply within himself, and his suffering is spilling over. He does not need punishment; he needs help. That is the message he is sending."
The Heart of Buddha's Teachings by Thich Nhat Hanh

deeptrivia (talk) 04:08, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bhadani-You forgot to look around.

[edit]

I didn't expect you to react so strongly. Perhaps things got heated up in the Idleguy's RfA. Roses are beautiful, but this doesn't mean we hug them because then the thorns will start hurting us. This is quite similar to human relations. You got so much involved in the RfA that it started hurting you. Sometimes it is advisable to see the roses from the distance. They are targeting one Idleguy, but you have the potential of making a thousand. Look around...there are people like us who are there looking for your help. There is a difference in the job of the gardener and the florist. The gardener tends and cares for the roses to make them fit for the best bouquet, while the florist arranges them to look perfect. Adminship is akin to the job of gardener while RfA voting is akin to florist. I strongly believe that you are a gardener first. You have the job of helping buds like us to become the best roses.

काजल की कोठरी में कितनो ही सयानो जाये,
एक लीक काजल की लागी है पे लागी है।

I can describe RfA as best this "काजल की कोठरी". Howsoever good a person is, someone is bound to try and make him/her dirty.

You have to take the decision whether you want Wikipedia, or you want politics. I am sure you will choose Wikipedia. Wikipedia has something known as Wikignome who are people working tirelessly to make things better without clamouring for attention. But I believe that we all at Wikipedia are gnomes in the sense that 99% of the people who read our work won't care to find out who wrote it. Fitting as it sounds, we all should actually work as gnomes. Take my advice, and start working for the betterment of wikipedia by doing good work and tending good roses. Be an eventualist...in the end, everyone will live happily ever after.

My stay in Wikipedia has taught me two things:

  1. Keep you cool, and
  2. Don't feed the trolls.

Hope you understand what I mean.

BTW, until you transwiki the articles that I requested you to, don't even think about leaving. And you are not the one who should be forgetting his new-year resolution so soon. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 19:32, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your support of my RfA

Thanks for your magnanimity and kind words. My reaction, termed as over-reaction, was in response to remarks by some one who has perhaps no knowledge of the Indian culture, heritage, and tradition. I treat myself as a citizen of the world and also try to behave like one. Having said this, after all how many civilizations on the Earth has a continuous history as old as the Indian civilization and how many countries in the world has the cultural and ethnic diversities which we find here? As such, reactions by someone not familiar with different cultures create a cultural divide resulting into so many avoidable interactions. This had also happened during the time when Culture of Asia was undergoing through the process of Article Improvement Drive. Moreover, you may have heard the proverb: Guilty mind is always conscious! Accordingly, there are people who are adept at imputing motives to every deed and every word of others. When I encounter such fellows, I remember the words of Sir Winston Churchill: I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals. At the same time, Churchill has also told: WE SHALL FIGHT. Yes, We shall continue to keep a watch in all the nooks and corners of Wikipedia to make wikipedia truly the sum total of human knowledge, and ensure that its credibility is not sabotaged by persons interested in disrupting the Project and driving out & away the genuine volunteer-editors and perhaps recruiting editors susceptible to pulls and pressures. By the way, we are not here for fun but doing something serious! --Bhadani 14:45, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

However, I did feel that you wd be back, and you are - such a relief to me. I haven't yet gone through the exchange you had with anonymous, but I'll do so and let you know as to what I think of it. My "ji" in the first line is after seeing your photograph, and learning that you are elder to me - I consider myself doubly lucky to see Rashmiji's photograph as well. [edit]

Hi Bhadaniji - I'm very grateful that you came back this soon. I was worried about the possibility that we would lose you for a few weeks or months. You should always know that everyone here has immense respect for you. You are extremely valuable to Wikipedia and a vital support to other users.

I just feel that you should never, ever stop doing something you are passionate about over the opinions of others. Even if a day comes when everybody is against you, you should stick at it. If you feel yourself involved in a difficult position, you can address the issue directly, and you should know that most people here will listen respectfully. This is even more important becoz you are an administrator, and so you must tackle difficult issues directly. I never saw any error in what you wrote, although I knew immediately that someone like Anon could cry foul. I also feel that one should work on Wikipedia purely for knowledge - you should not worry about other things so much.

Your Wiki-birthday is close - there are so many achievements to celebrate! You are the inspiration and support of so many. Indeed your consistent compassion and positivity has inspired my transformation into a positive Wikipedian, as well as in my personal life. Thank you, and please don't consider leaving Wikipedia as a solution for any issue. Jai Sri Rama! Rama's Arrow 17:02, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Once you had called me Rama - a human can not be a God, but you may have heard a verse from the Bible: God made his son (that is, the human being) in his own image. I also congratulate you to be there with Gurubrahama: Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2006-02-27/News_and_notes and User:Gmaxwell/report for raul654. Best regards. BTW, I have resolved to fight back and ensure that the Project wikipedia do not get defiled ever. We shall now pay the disruptive elements in their own coins, as we owe this to the donors who fund the Wikipedia Foundation. We have to keep the goodwill and the trust of the donors, and for this WE SHALL FIGHT. Yes, We shall continue to keep a watch in all the nooks and corners of Wikipedia to make wikipedia truly the sum total of human knowledge, and ensure that its credibility is not sabotaged by persons interested in disrupting the Project and driving out & away the genuine volunteer-editors and perhaps recruiting editors susceptible to pulls and pressures. thumb|right|"Munh Dikhai" Dear Bhadaniji, what an excellent idea to let us have a Paarvai of our very own friendly neighbourhood wiki-Jesus. I couldn't let it pass without proferring some (inadequate) Munh Dikhai, and expressing the hope of some day beholding the Sakshatkar. If all this chortling does not suggest the matter, let me also duly profess my profound regard for you, and my delight at finally making it to your greeting-list. I had feared that my initial unresponsiveness had put me on your black-list for good, but hopefully it is not so. I am largely away these days, and that explains this delay in responding to your message. Happy holi, and do let us KIT. Your foremost chela, ImpuMozhi 01:08, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Clarifications: ImpuMozhi knows the North India or rather all-Indian tradition very well. Munh Dikhai means the "gift one gives to some one, particularly to a young bride or boy after seeing her face for the first time. Its literal meaning is: "to see the face". He is referring to My Munh Dikhai or Her Munh Dikhai? I thnak him for parting with Rs. 120. I will pay back him in the same coins. Hahahha. Jhute Bole Kauwwa Kate? This evening we had a concert of traditional music of Mali (West Africa) at my university and took the musicians for North Indian food afterwards. I had Punjabi chole with puri. Our waiter was a funny man from Goa. Thank you again for your invitation to visit South India. I hope I may do that one day. There will be a music conference in Chennai in about 1 year but I'll need to win the lottery first to be able to go. ha ha. Happy editing, Badagnani 06:22, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Self-improvement

[edit]

With a view to improve my wiki-existence, I am in the process of comunicating with a cross section of Wikipedians (including the administrators) with the following request:

Hello from an Indian wikipedian. I have been around here for about a year, including being an administrator from 18th September 2005. I request you to kindly do me the favor of providing me your valuable comments and suggestions on my contributions, activities and behavior pattern. I shall be awaiting your free and frank opinion, which you are most welcome to give here. Thanks. (signed/Bhadani)

Response to your message

[edit]

Hello and happy Holi. I received your message and from looking at your talk page and the last few contributions you have made, I agree that you are a great and constructive editor. Obviously you are respected by many, particularly the Indian wikipedians, and though I don't know if we have edited a lot of the same pages, I believe I have seen your name before and you have always seemed like a good contributor. I should mention that you made a mistake in your message, saying that you became an administrator in 2006 when you meant 2005. I corrected that mistake on my talk page and your talk page. Anyway, you seem like a very friendly and hard-working person, so keep up the good work. Although I have never been to India, I have a lot of interest in Indian history and culture and have edited some Indian topics, particularly the politics, and it is good that that area of the Wikipedia is growing. Hi Bhadani, thank you for the RAoK barnstar. I sure appreciate it. :) I knew you wouldn't leave us in the lurch. It was a good thing that I noticed it right away, things might have been a little different otherwise. As bureaucrat, I do have to intervene when things get ugly in the RFA area. :) =Nichalp «Talk»= 04:54, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kind words. The things did not go ugly at the RfA - it was forced to become ugly by persons who are having strong personal likes and dislikes, and who fail to understand the cultural divide. Such persons, in the long run, may directly or indirectly/ intentioanlly or unintentionally sabotage the project. --Bhadani 15:21, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re:Maramarama.... (lol!)

[edit]

Hehehe...when Bhadani was jawan, Rama was not even born (pun intended....). Maybe like the "birthdays committee" idea, we can create a "Hasya-Kavi sammelan" (poetry and humor), helping folks to smirk and unwind. Rama's Arrow 16:49, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rama was always there - Rama was not born. I say great mara-mari in case of that Alasi Boy , I mean Idleguy. He is really Ideal. --Bhadani 16:59, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Speaking of the RfA: apart from SV, Mel Etitis and AE's criticism, I think there was a real concern about Idleguy's "civility." I know that he is a straight-shooter (the kind I respect infinitely), but maybe others feel a little put-off by his lack of flowery word use. I feel a bit disappointed with myself over the way this RfA was conducted - in the sense, Idleguy's desire to be an admin should propel the RfA - instead it was hijacked by his detractors and supporters alike. I think we should let Idleguy be Idleguy, and same for all others - I don't think we should push RfA on anybody unless they really want to do the job. Rama's Arrow 17:11, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, there was a sense that Idleguy should have apologized about his conflicts with SV and AE beforehand, as a definitive gesture of his change. I don't think anybody should be forced to apologize at risk of their principles just to establish in the minds of some that "I'm civil, a respectful guy." Rama's Arrow 17:17, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think you are presenting the things generally in the right perspective. This RfA really taught me a number of lessons, and I could learn about the ascendancy of a set of people whose repeated harping on the same issues reminded me of Joseph Goebbels. I do accept that civility was an issue, but it was blown out of the proportion and we massively digressed from the point that we have assembled here to create the sum total of human knowledge and not attending a party with a lot of hi, hello, and cheers! With due regards to all concerned, I am afraid that each such encounter saps the real volunteers editors of their desire to be a part of the project, albeit editors paid by some organizations would surely continue to be disruptive - my words presuposses goodfaith similar to the declaration on Jumbo Whales' talk page!!! --Bhadani 17:30, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As long as we're talking of this, I wonder at some potential avenues for problems. For example, the discussions between you, Gurubrahma, myself and others on suitable Indian admin candidates - some people can accuse us of attempting to create a cabal, can't they? I wonder if the entire nomination for adminship thing should be entirely between a choice candidate and his prospective nominator. I was especially struck (positively) by the comment of a guy who opposed Idleguy's RfA - adminship is not a reward for good users. We talked about 5-6 people who can do the job, but its perhaps not good to deal with such questions in this manner. Just some thoughts... Rama's Arrow 17:45, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
To finish my perhaps mis-timed, inappropriate thoughts - I strongly want to see Deeptrivia as administrator. He's already doing a lot good work fighting vandals/-ism, welcoming users and on the wikiprojects and portal:India. Credentials-wise, he's all there. I don't think we should hesitate to move on his RfA after March 24, despite all the issues recently faced. Rama's Arrow 17:49, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I perhaps contradict above my own desire to "let the river flow." All respect to Deeptrivia's own freedom to chose. Rama's Arrow 17:53, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If they choose to do so, they can certainly do so and create problems - but do not we require more administrators familiar with the topics related to India? We never talkd in terms of administrators who are Indians, we are talking about administrators who are well versed with matters pertaining to India and the Indian subcontinent. Do not you feel that people unaware of the matter has created a redirection link from Pataliputra to Patna, and from the Indian subcontinent to South Asia - they do not know the differences actually. Do such simple issue require building of consensus? We shall not be creating anything like a cabal, we are trying to create a pool of talents to give wikipedia a better coverage, and add to the sum total of human knowledge. However, I surely feel that perhaps several cabals may be operating in wikipedia and some of them may be trying to damage the Project. Now, the matter of Idleguy's RfA stands closed for the time being, and let us concentrate on the main work of building the Project. By the way, repeated failures of nominations from India shall be indicative of the cablas operating inside wikipedia to harm the long term interest of wikipedia. Please ask Deep - is he ready now? I will seaprately ask him too. He can not escape beyond 2th March 2006. --Bhadani 18:04, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

revisionist history

[edit]

Hi Bhadaniji - I want to ask you a few questions, with the intention of learning how to deal with some serious issues. I'm worried about a rising trend of revisionist history on matters relating to India, Pakistan, Bangladesh. We are obviously aware in the traditional propaganda-pushing, but this is different.

For example, I think "Indian subcontinent" - "South Asia" is a perfect example. There are people objecting to "Indian subcontinent" perhaps becoz they don't want to be identified with anything "Indian." On Political integration of India, there was an editor insisting to describe India as "self-governing," and not "independent" after August 15th, 1947 - I don't think his intent was malicious or ideological, however. We know that nationhood consists of more than politics and government - but there are many to choose to identify the existence of India as of a political entity - thereby asserting that India as a country did not exist prior to 1947. If its "partition of India," its partition of "British India." All this is hauntingly akin to Jinnah's assertion of the Two Nation Theory.

How do we deal with such issues? Is it enough to work case-by-case, arguing technically, or is there a need for a wider discussion on Wikipedia? Rama's Arrow 18:19, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

To add, as an encyclopedia, Wikipedia must not be a theatre for revisionist history, becoz it has no authority to alter interpretation and re-tell facts and events as they are. Fringe elements must not so easily modify long-standing norms and accepted terms, definitions, events. Rama's Arrow 18:24, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As notified on Jumbo Wales talk page and at various other places, I am an adherent to and always assume good faith, and keeping in view utmost good faith, I may further add that when users and editors inimical to wikipedia’s long term interest (and recruited or enrolled with a view to lower the credibility of wikipedia) get into ascendancy, you will find the trend you are describing. Ultimately, it will make wikipedia like any useless blog, instead of a true encyclopedia reflective of the sum total of human knowledge. --Bhadani 12:51, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As an administrator, please have a look at this deleted template. I don't know why it was deleted nor the basis for such deletion, especially when religion-based userboxes are abound across Wikipedia. Will it be ok if I or anybody else re-create a Hindu users template? Rama's Arrow 18:19, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You may discuss the issue at the talk page of the template. I do not find any reason there - it may have been done with some reason, though I am unable to understand the same. --Bhadani 12:55, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think most of the userboxes are going to be deleted one by one, as they perhaps do not serve much purpose. --Bhadani 12:58, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You suggested that these two pages be merged. But it appears that Hisarya, India does not exist - see Talk:Hisar, India. Do you agree? Re:Taj Mahal

No, I didn't know about this - Taj Mahal: The True Story. As to revisionist history, I'm sure that Wikipedia is only to document facts, not change the reader's viewpoint. It might result in a credibility problem. Rama's Arrow 14:46, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm a bit angered by the fact that the "Hindu" template was deleted - its not advocacy of POV, which Wales and others are opposed to. Plus, why are the Christian, Muslim tags still standing? I will endeavor to re-create a Hindu tag after I make perfectly sure there is no real basis for that deletion. Rama's Arrow 14:48, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I simply wanted to convey that when you chose to delete the userbox of a particular religion, you could have taken few moments more to delete userboxes pertaining to all other major religions. Or, were you not actually aware of what exactly you were deleting? --Bhadani 17:58, 9 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We disagree on that, I believe those propogation of views are a part of human nature and something that should be understood and mutually respected so we can make sure they don't get in the way of our real goal: to build an encyclopedia and a community building that encyclopedia.

In any case, thank you for your message. Karmafist 14:14, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do agree with your views, but sometimes things get really bad. --Bhadani 14:16, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
They do. I apologize for my misunderstanding. Unfortunately, I just can't sit by while people are getting hurt. I feel like I have to do something and this is all I can do for the time being it feels. If you have another idea, please feel free to share, I will always listen to those who are civil, and you seem to be that, my friend :-) Karmafist 14:20, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, my dear friend, like you, I have always maintained that we are building here an encyclopedia and the sum total of human knowledge. As such, all other our actions are subsidiary to this objective. Yes, we have to work here collaboratively and constructively, in an environment of mutual trust and respect. BTW, you did not misunderstand me – my words conveyed a level of emotional stress, which I feel sometimes in the course of working here. --Bhadani 14:26, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I feel that as well, and I hope that these efforts of mine can help reduce the levels of emotional stress we all unfortunately feel from misunderstanding and complacency. Nobody deserves to feel bad from Wikipedia. Karmafist 14:32, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My username

[edit]

What is to say Bhadaniji -- it's quite straight-forward, no code, nothing. "Impu" in all the south Indian languages means "melodious" and "Mozhi" is the pure-Tamil word for "Language".

You may have noticed 2-3 types of 'r' being used in Tamil, if you are among those who can make out anything amid the andu-gundu. So 'Mozhi' is pronounced with a rolling 'r' in place of the 'z'. Nearly everyone must be pronouncing it as 'z', and also, everyone on WP is likely to think of "Impu" as connected to "Imp" -- I don't like that imagery, and it isn't me, but the deed is done. I thought I had conjured up a nice user-name, but it is an all-round fiasco. Wages of grandoiseness. Take care, ImpuMozhi 16:09, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Even after so many days....

[edit]

Hi Bhadani, thanks for the greetings and wish you the best of Holi too. As I am anyway writing to you, let me take this opportunity to clear some of my doubts about Wikipedia.

Even after so many days at Wikipedia, these things have continued to baffle me:

  1. Although I never had any issues as yet, I wanted to know how does one check for sock-puppeting? Is there any reliable way, or only the vague ones like time of activity and edit count? Is there any way to find the IP of a logged in user?
  2. Is there any way to find out what my/someones userpages are? It might happen that I create an orphan userpage and not access it for days. Is there any way to find out what all pages have been created?
  3. As Wikipedia gives its user freedom to maintain userpages, is there anything stopping people from using Wikipedia as a blog? The arguement that Wikipedia works on the same way isn't acceptable as RCPs patrol Wikipedia. I believe that most RCPs don't patrol userpages, and hence it is possible for users to use Wikipedia as free web space. It might be against the Wikipedia policy, but one isn't a thief until caught. What is more surprising is that Wikipedia allows multiple userspace images too. While such images may be scrutinized for copyvios, if one keeps his head low, it is possible for them to even use Wikipedia as flickr-like album.
  4. How do I run scripts on Wikipedia? For example, I want to keep track of how many users I have welcomed. I always write welcome in such edit summaries, but I still don't know how to run any such script.
  5. What is the difference between a sysop and an admin?

Your help will be greatly appreciated. Ambuj Saxena (talk) 09:47, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One more please...Is there any way to change my username? When I registered, I typed ambuj.saxena and it got changed to Ambuj.saxena. Is there any way I can change it to something like Ambuj.Saxena? Ambuj Saxena (talk) 10:06, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For finding the pages created in the user space Interiot's tool might be a useful option though I don't think it catches moves. Ambuj seems to have created just two pages in his user space Tintin (talk) 10:34, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. --Bhadani 10:37, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For your "one more," go to Wikipedia:Changing username or ask Nichalp for a name change. GizzaChat © 10:39, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tools mentioned, but they still have limitations as they tell user pages edited by me, and not my userpages. For example, it lists User:PEHowland, but misses Student Linguistics in IIT Kharagpur, which infact is technically my userpage's subpage. Ambuj Saxena (talk) 13:17, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Replying to Ambuj's comments.

  1. Only those with Checkuser rights may be able to view the IP addresses to check for sockpuppetery. You would have to contact one of the listed members.
  2. I don't know about userpages. I've been wondering about that too. If you find out, please let me know. :)
  3. This is wikipedia's policy on userpages: Wikipedia:User page. Blogs are not welcome.
  4. As far as images are concerned, usually if one finds an image unsuitable for wikipedia usage, it is tagged and put on WP:IFD
  5. To run scripts you would need a bot account: See Wikipedia:Bots
  6. Sysop vs admin: No difference. See Wikipedia:Administrators
  7. Request a formal name change at Wikipedia:Changing username, and I'll change your name. :)

Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:00, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hai. I guess I have solved the mystery. This link will give your user sub-pages and User:Ambuj.saxena/Student Linguistics in IIT Kharagpur is not showing in your edit tree because while deleting it was not moved to your user sub page by the move function, but by cut and paste by User:Avraham.--Raghu 12:48, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks everybody for the responses. Now my doubts No. 1, 2, 4 and 5 are cleared. Just that Doubt No. 3 is still a bit unclear. What my point was that unlike the Mainspace, the User space is not very well kept track of. So if someone keeps his/her head low, it is possible to keep a blog running in Wikipedia. Although it would be illegal, it would. Anyways, drop it. BTW, my name change request is pending for the last 5 days. Looks like Nichalp is busy. Thanks again. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 11:40, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

May be - after all there are very few to effect the change. You may again remind him - he shall nver mind. --Bhadani 11:44, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Capitalization

[edit]

I hate to tell you this, but the first letter of definitions are usually capitalized.[1][2][3][4] They do this so that people aren't given the wrong idea on how to spell the word. It is capitalized when it is a person or place name (i.e., a proper noun), though.--Primetime 15:19, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Insulting behaviour by User Nohat

[edit]

I have asked a simple question to one user Nohat at this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_English_words_of_Tamil_origin What is your level of knowledge regarding Dravidian Languages.

He terms this as "a stupid question" (Nohat 04:52, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

My request to other administrators is to kindly tell whether the above question is vandalism. How can some one term my question as "stupid". Does an administrator in Wikipedia automatically gets rights to call others by insulting terms and also brand a question asking for academic credentials ("level of knowledge regarding Dravidian Languages") as "stupid"

To whom should we report this. What is Wikipedia and other admins going to do for such high handed behaviour. What is the solution for this.Doctor Bruno 11:44, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

MY REPLY

I read some of the discussion on the talk page, which you had refereed to above. Although I am in Chennai since 1999, I do not know Tamil. As such, I am not able to comment on the matter under discussion. As regards, the use of word "stupid" was concerned, it is not permissible to use such words. However, his answer was "a stupid answer to a stupid question". In my opinion, sometimes some persons may use such words without meaning any offence - you may please keep this in view: the user of the word may have just used it without any intent to hurt. Of course, an apology would have been in order, but you can not expect each one to be so considerate - after all we are in 100s of thousands, and each one has a distinct personality and behavior pattern. As such, please continue to work with calm and composure. Let us continue to build the best encyclopedia in the world. I do agree that most reliable texts in the world may not be having any ISBN number, persons should know about the cultural divide to understand so aspects of human life. There may be a number of persons who may not be prepared to accept that there are other civilizations, cultures, and languages having older and better history and heritage other than those civilizations, cultures, and languages to who they have been exposed before they came into contact with wikipedia. This is called infatuation. I feel amazed that people may edit here without giving any reference about themselves, while they create a lot of noise about references for matters which are obvious. --Bhadani 12:08, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well Sir, you have enlightened my mind with the words "who may not be prepared to accept that there are other civilizations, cultures, and languages having older and better history and heritage other than those civilizations, cultures, and languages to who they have been exposed" This is the same problem with the ISBN. A lot of people over here do not understand that there can be books without ISBN (like the Bible example I gave). Thanks for your words and I have learnt an important point todayDoctor Bruno 18:04, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Life is like that - we have to live in the global village now, where digital divide is shrinking, but cultural divide is expanding. --Bhadani 17:07, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As I understnad it, the Samarkand manuscript is the Uthman Quran.. wouldn't a Merge be appropriate? --Irishpunktom\talk 15:50, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was today Holi? - Hope you had a good one! --Irishpunktom\talk 15:52, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I found that the term Samarkand manuscript was separately appearing as a redline in the page relating to Qur'an. Further, a bit of enquiry reveled the existence of Topkapi manuscript. All these the earliest manuscripts of the Holy Book, and Uthman Qur'an may refer to a number of such manuscripts. In future, the world may discover some more manuscripts. As such, in my opinion, merger is not justified – all these manuscripts are kept in different places. The world should know about them – I believe these two small stubs shall grow over a period of time. By the way, I am currently in South India where they do not celebrate Holi – all celebrations are ultimately in our hearts! --Bhadani 16:06, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The manuscripted Quran in Tashkent is Uthmans Quran. You need to ask yourself, "Why is it called the "Samarkand manuscript" when it's not kept in Samarkand?" - the answer is because it was in samarkand when Timur took it there, Samarkand being the Capital of Timurs empire. Now, add to that the links you have provided, and you see that it is the same thing. The Topkapi Manuscript is an old edition, or part thereof, of the Quran - Possibly one of the first five, but it was not the Uthman Quran taken by Ali to Baghdad, which was taken by Timur to Samarkand, which was taken by the Czar to Moscow, which was taken by Lenin to Ufa, which was then brought to Tashkent. --Irishpunktom\talk 16:23, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, we may require to dig still deeper - we should continue to work on the issue: I feel that more persons should join the discussion. What do you say? Ultimately, redirection links, if required, may be created. --Bhadani 16:30, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, other people is a good idea.. how do we do that? --Irishpunktom\talk 16:35, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You may invite opinion of other members of the Guild. Moreover, other editors may also come forward to offer their comments - in wikipedia nothing can remain hidden for long - someone shall come to say something, as you came forward to give your opinion. --Bhadani 16:42, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As the Samarkand manuscript was existing for long as a red line, I thought it better to make at least a stub - then someone added an image too... so may be, we have to collect more information to decide the factual position. --Bhadani 16:45, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, we may discuss the matter on the talk page of Talk:Qur'an, and interested persons may join. Please also see:

Thanks a lot for your comments.I await your advice.I felt this had to be included as a source of verifiability for the living subjects. All the entries in the volume(there are 20,000 of them)are strictly on merit and extensively researched.Right now the Wikipedia encourages google.I can see some problems with excessive reliance on google-there are several people with the same name and on browsing the deletion logs I noted that Wiki has not been immune to the confusion this can create-one article I note was deleted because the subject had the unfortunate coincidence of having a similar name to another with not so savoury antecedants! While this was cleared up during the debate but the intial deletion votes were counted. What I was meaning to propose was that to ascertain notability of living subjects,it might be best to find out if they merited an entry in this volume before googling whch can lead to an avalanche of information difficult to sieve at times.(Vr 07:52, 17 March 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks, this is really a contentious issue, and each case deserves to be decided on its own merit. Cheers! --Bhadani 13:00, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ranchi blocks

[edit]

Copied from Phronima page:

I would invite your attention to the above. Actually, the administrative units have several villages. I think that a redirection link shall defeat the purpose of creating the stub. Do you want that a place having pupulation of 50,000 to 100,000 do not requirew an independent page here. Over a period of time, the stub shall mature. --Bhadani 15:23, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

I would request you to please remove the redirects which you have created in respect of blocks of Ranchi district, as each block is an administrative unit with several villages, and population of around 50,000 to 100,000. Perhaps, you are not aware of the locations so you may have created the redirects - may be, you want some more contents. In any case, I will have to remove the redirects as soon as possible. --Bhadani 15:35, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

I do agree with you. However, there is always scope to improve - there are several nice pages in wikipedia which have grown from a stub of one line. As regards the identical wording, the lead sentence was jsut an opening remarks. I would invite you to see the pages in this category: Category:Neighborhoods of Karachi. The wording is identical, but some pages have grown beautifully. Moreover, there are several 1000s of stubs of few words, and sentences in wikipedia, which await expansion of contents. Anyway, it is ok for the time being. --Bhadani 15:43, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

I am not going to un-do the redirects right now - I will come back with stubs of few paragraphs, as each administrative block has its own geography, culture, and history. --Bhadani 15:46, 17 March 2006 (UTC) Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Phronima"

His replies:

The trouble was that the articles contained no information that isn't provided by the list (they were so identical to each other that in four or five cases at least, the name in the article didn't match the title). If there's more to be said that won't fit into the list, then individual article can be made, but I don't see the point till then. --Phronima 15:36, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't undo the redirects; I made them in order to avoid putting the articles up for deletion. The number of inhabitants is irrelevant -- if there isn't anything useful to be said about them, then we don't need articles on each one. Again, the list does everything that the articles does, with much less repetition. --Phronima 15:40, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry not to have replied sooner; in the vacation I don't get in to college very often, and this is the first time for nearly a week. (I'm a "her", by the way.) Certainly, if there is enough material to make an article for any of these blocks, they should become articles. My feeling was, though, that between articles on important villages and towns in the region and articles on the region itself, there wasn't really a need for articles on the middle-sized units. --Phronima 16:59, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Thankyou very much for telling me about RFC. I will be reviewing all the neighborhoods of Karachi and I have seen your edits. Most of the articles were just stubs. Many things have to be changed and updated.

Siddiqui 17:01, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is all right - I am telling about the Karachi neighborhoods - over a period of time, the pages should mature with pictures, and more information. --Bhadani 17:05, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gyanameva Jayate? NPOV Jayate?

[edit]

Hi Bhadaniji - increasingly I am viewing Wikipedia as a satyagraha on behalf of knowledge. We must endure many hardships and defeats, but the victory is sweet and inevitable.

I wonder if its a good idea for Portal:India, or Indian Wikipedians in general to adopt the motto "Gyanameva Jayate," just as "Satyameva Jayate" is our national motto? Rama's Arrow 17:39, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sometimes, I do get frustrated to find that there is a crusade against knowledge here. I do endorse the spirit of your motto, Gyanameva Jayate (that is, let there be victory for knowledge), yet I feel that right now we must continue our efforts to build the Project in the truest wiki-tradition. --Bhadani 17:46, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
On a more lighter note, shouldn't it be Gyanameva Jayati as Satyameva Jayate has been shown to be an incorrect sanskrit phrase. I was also wondering whether to add this info on this page. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 18:58, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot my dear Ambuj. However, for the time being let us continue to work without getting perturbed. --Bhadani 10:19, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
With the way, things are going around with India-related articles, I'd rather have NPOV-Jayate, than anything else. *wink --Andy123 12:09, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
History can be re-written sometimes, but it can not be changed. Ultimately the truth comes out - Joseph Goebbels could not help Hitler. We wikipedians shall build the Project in am impartial way. --Bhadani 12:14, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for removing the "redunant spaces" on my page. I think you are online right now? Do you use Google Talk? My id is anirudhsbh at gmail dot com. Alternatively my Yahoo! id is anirudhbhati. Please do contact me, I am getting online in a jiffy. --Andy123 12:13, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Great, I shall call you on yahoo messenger - in minutes. --Bhadani 12:16, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I will not be able to receive any calls on Yahoo! messenger, as it is, I am using the messenger illegally from the hostel premises. I am using a proxy switch software for the purpose. This software, though does provide me with the option of chatting through the IM Window, but will not allow me to connect to the voice server. Ok, I got your message in time, just as I was going to put this message. If your messenger was not working, you could try out Meebo service. It is really cool. Half of the people in our college use this facility to avoid the firewall *wink. I am online through out the day. The internet facilities provided in my hostel at the Gujarat National Law University are 24/7 @ 512 kbps (which is shared between 320 students, of which 20-30 are online at one time). I am able to derieve reasonable speeds with that. And there are not many people who, like me, use the internet extensively throughout the day. --Andy123 12:31, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I am online throughout the day. --Andy123 12:37, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I will try with gmail talk. Will that be ok? --Bhadani 12:39, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I said that I would be online throughout the day. I should have put up a *conditions apply tag there. :( The Internet facilities in our University are provided through Wireless connections. There are accesspoints everywhere. Now if one of the switches goes phut! the whole network goes with it. I got offline, and then felt that, I'd rather sleep than waste my time weeping over the spilt soup. --Andy123 16:01, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that! and, what's your Gmail id, btw? --Andy123 16:03, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is my pleasure - right now, I am sending you an e-mail. And, by the way, when I was a student of Patna Law College (Patna University, we used to weep over split-milk - now people weep over split-soup - but wikipedia will always remain un-split.
Just sent you an e-mail - also got your message from google talk. In case, you are there that is fine - or we shall fix some other time. --Bhadani 16:12, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Bhadaniji, a small question about Bihar. AFIK, the Kshatriyas there do not call themselves "Rajput", do they? They are normally called 'Thakur', right? Exactly what is the colloquial caste-affiliation of the word "Bhumihar"? It would be nice if you could let me know what is the perception on the ground. Regards, ImpuMozhi 17:53, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Partly a difficult question to answer. Kshatriyas call themselves Rajputs in Bihar - yes you are right, they also call themselves as Thakurs. As regards Bhumihars, they are generally considered as belonmging to higher group of castes, normally at par with Brahmins and Rajputs - though exact classification in Varna system for them is difficult, they consider themselves as part of Brahmins, and use a number of surnames used by Brahmins of Bihar. This debate continues - as you shall find in Bhumihar page/ talk in wikipedia. --Bhadani 15:32, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Bhadaniji. I am seeing the answer just now. Do you have a policy of not answering on other pages? I think not, since I have a couple of comments by you on your talk-page. Thank you for the info. ImpuMozhi 12:49, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can do that - Hindi is my mother toungue. But, typing it shall be a problem. In case, you so wish, I can tranlate it, then get it typed by someone in my Office, and send the scanned file by way of an e-mail attachment. --Bhadani 15:16, 21 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Like several other departments of the Government of India/ Public Sector Banks, We have a separate department in our Office, just doing the work in Hindi. Hi Bhadani, thanks for Holi Greetings. Belated wishes for Holi to you too. I was away from this Wikipedia for a long time. Why, yes, I've always enjoyed Holi with my friends. This year too we played Holi with colours and water. Actually, since the time I've shifted to Mumbai back in 1996, I've played Holi every year. Earlier, when we used to stay at Malvan, there wasn't that much celebration with hard colours. Although, we used to go to the place of the Koli (ie. fisherman in Marathi) community, where they lit the Holi bonfire. I still remember that was quite different from the one in Mumbai. -- Mohammed Malvankar 07:14, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request,Nomination for removal Khalistan article

[edit]

Hello Sir I'm nominating this page for deletion because it is written with a point of view , excessive use of unreliable sources.and the title "Khalistan" is wrong for the topic because "Khalistan" does not exist, lack of support from resident Punjabi's and Sikhs in India, but there was a "Movement for Khalistan" and that is the right title for the topic, and i think this whole article "a new name" should be rewritten with the help of people from sikh community "in" India and other Indians, because this topic is related to politics/people of India. We all should understand Khalistan is not a political entity and having a article is not justified, Microsoft Encarta and Britannic encyclopedia don't have an article known as "Khalistan" but they do have articles on the movement that took place decades back, and i think there are also copyright issues involved with this article because big parts of this article are written on other peoples research. Many reliable sources are used to show "one side" of their view on the topic, there are also indications that organisations banned by US and EU are involved in providing their research on the movement.I am a strong supporter to have a stub on this topic , but im afraid that such articles on wikipedia have become mouthpieces for organisation which are known for disrupting peace (assassination of one of india's prime minister, twin bomb blast in New Delhi on the eve of Diwali) in Indian sub continent. This article requires your attention , please help. Anmol.2k4 18:30, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply copied from his page: I thank you for your concern. But, in wikipedia we do not solve such issues so rapidly. Microsoft Encarta and Britannic may not be having what we have here, we set our own example and standard, and we shall excell them in the long run. [edit]

Hi - I just wanted to say I feel very unhappy and horrible about what happened with Deeptrivia's rfa, especially after Idleguy's rfa. Are we doing something intrinsically wrong? How is it that it is so easy to overshadow the great merits of a person?

I'm in Ahmedabad right now. I'll be returning home on April 8. I wish I could have a few days to visit you in Chennai. Rama's Arrow 08:36, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply copied from his talk page: This is a matter of deep introspection. I have nothing more to say except that human beings do not forget and forgive easily; it is always easy to magnify the negative traits, and difficult to highlight the good ones, though it is not exactly the crowd mentality. Would you or I forget if some thing so touchy is told against you and me? You may assess the feelings of involved wikipedians who were not treated with the respect and care due to them. But, people learn my committing mistakes only, and if the community fails to understand the transformation in people, then I am afraid the Project shall be rotating round and around, without reaching any destination. However, I do believe that we are a vibrant and resilient digital community, the best which the world wide web had produced until now, and the community ultimately recognizes the true worth of the members, may be if not in the short term, then at least in the long term. Please “don’t worry about the world ending today. It’s already tomorrow in China.” --Bhadani 11:04, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed lines from the great poem by Robert Frost on your user page as well as your talk page. Those are my favourite lines too. - Aksi_great 14:13, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Proxy

[edit]

Dont act as a proxy for other POV warriors, the information you are trying to add by force is false. In wikipedia we should always remove false information. "The spread of Islam was also due particularly to the powerful Ottoman Empire. Nations were conquered, and their inhabitants were given a choice to convert to Islam, or live as dhimmis, protected second class citizens practicing an officially accepted religion." - That statement is utterly false, the only place the ottomans took Islam was to the balkans. Unless you are saying that Islam is predominantly a balkans based religion you must conceed this is false. It then proceeds to speak about Twentieth century politics, nothing about the history of Islam in the Muslim world, nothing about where most Muslims come from - It short, its false information which has no place. Now, Why would you want the section on the denominations removed? Its verifiable, and acorrect, and I don't understand what you want to remove it. Please explain --Irishpunktom\talk 15:27, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest you to discuss the matter with on the talk page of the article. I am moving this to the talk page. You are also welcome to cite sources which do corroborate with your contention. --Bhadani 15:34, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The matter is on the talk page, right above where you posted. proxy is that fancy a word, I sure didn't create it, I just mean you are acting for others (Wheter you realise it or not). The idea that the statement is true is patently ridiculous, and surely someone of Indian descent will realise that the ottomans where nowhere near India/Pakistan/Bangla Desh or Indonesia. --Irishpunktom\talk 15:38, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A big hi!!

[edit]

Bhadaniji, I have been caught up with work in the real world and though my edit count seems to have maintained its pace, I am actually spending much less time these days. I am blessed to be receiving barnstars from wikipedians I looked up to during my early days here, such as you, Nichalp and Pamri. I was planning to write to you - my first nom for rfa has gone off well, as you may know. It is sad to see both Idleguy's and deeptrivia's rfas fail - the principal reason for this is Anonymous editor's opposition combined with the incomplete disclosure by the nominees. Anonym himself succeeded only in his 2nd rfa (after working on the feedback from his 1st rfa) and while people do have differences with him, they also understand that he is committed to WP and hence they take his opinion seriously. Anyways, I do believe that these admittedly unpleasant experiences would be helpful in making all the people involved into better human beings. --Gurubrahma 17:37, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My reply copied from his talk page: AE is surely a committed wikipedian, and I have always kept SlimVirgin as an ideal. Yes, Idleguy and Deep failed, but they shall draw lessons, and shall become really nice administrators one day. I know about your first nomination as I had participated in that myself. When I find you doing so well, I feel very light. please be in touch. My selections were not wrong - the wiki-community wants demonstration of their abilities beyond doubt, and they shall do that in the months to come. --Bhadani 17:53, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Happy 1st Wikiversary, Irishpunktom

[edit]

Greeting Bhadani, first happy 1st wikiversary...may the positive community spirit that you express see you to continued happy Wiki editing.. Speaking of which your last message sent to Irishpunktom was so appropriate for him. As I imagine you're now well aware, a number of other editors and myself have had numerous dealings with him and his frequently demonstrated lack of WP:AGF. Your involvement with Muslim World would be a good example of this. Hopefully Irishpunktom will take your message to heart and follow the "10 wikipedia commandments" and adapt a more community cooperative spirit. Cheers! Netscott 14:54, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thank you for your compliments. But, perhaps a section of people do not want wikipedia to reflect the correct position perhaps. I have removed the page Muslim world from my watch list, and I trust others shall surely make this page reflective of the truth for which we all ahve come here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Muslim_world#A_Note --Bhadani 15:42, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sockepuppeting

[edit]

Hi Bhadani!

I was wondering if you can help me out here. User:Anmol.2k4 claims that User:Thetruth and User:Zafarnamah are sock puppets. I remember dealing with several disputes with The truth and I'm pretty certain that it's not the same person. The dispute is here Talk:Khalistan#Dispute. Thanks! Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 15:39, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would request you to take up the issue at the proper forum, which is Wikipedia:Requests for CheckUser. --Bhadani 16:37, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My up-dated reply copied from his talk page: Thanks, I would request you to take up the issue at the proper forum, which is Wikipedia:Requests for CheckUser. Even administrators can not chack the claim such claims - only 10 / 12 persons in wikipedia has the tools to check this, and it may also take time. Meanwhile, please continue to work positively, after registering your doubts at the proper place. However, please note that telling some one to be a sock-puppet without any basis is not good. It may de-motivate the new users. So, I suggest you to be careful while levelling such charges - if the charge is proved wrong, the person who blames other to be a sock-puppet may lose his reputation. --Bhadani 16:46, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Correcting Past Mistakes

[edit]

Hi Bhadani, I wanted to know whether its too late to change the errors made by Wikipedia. To cut short the suspense, I find it odd that the Wikimedia Foundation didn't take enough care in designing Wikipedia's logo. Apparently they made it on a software that didn't had Indic language support and shows the Hindi alphabets incorrectly. Can (and should) the Wikimedia Foundation be asked to correct this mistake. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 16:57, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what else needs to be known in order to ascertain the defect. Its there for everyone to see. "वि" appears as"व ि". This clearly means that the Indic language support is not there. Whom do you suggest I should contact? I contacted you as you are an admin. Should I message Jimbo, or someone who really will take it on war footing (like Angela or SV)? -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:29, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am talking about the Wikipedia's logo. Click on the link to see the image. Along the equator of the globe, you will find Hindi text, which is the thing I am concerned about. The problem is with logo (which is an image) and is seen equally in all browsers. Looks like you haven't checked it yet. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 17:51, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, now I understood it - yes, you are right. How to get it rectified is the main issue now. We will have to take up this with Wikipedia Foundation or its any other wing. --Bhadani 17:55, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think we can take it up with Angela. She is in Board of Trustees. -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 18:04, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Then you prepare a suitable message detailing the problem. We will discuss it and post a message on her page under our joint signature. Then, we shall wait and continue to follow-up with further request, if necessary. In case, you want, you post a message right now. I will sign it tomorrow. We amy also tell one or two more bureacrats. Please go ahead right now, if you wish, and if you have time right now. Ok. --Bhadani 18:08, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Lake just trying to overflow.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Image legality questions page. Thank you. Shyam (T/C) 18:12, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing out. I have added the tag GFDL-self. Please remove the delete-tag. --Bhadani 18:18, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your quick response to the image. But may I ask you do you belong to IITB? It does seem to see that photo. By the way after tagging the image suitably you could remove the no source tag from the image file. Regards, Shyam (T/C) 18:25, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for misunderstanding and thank you for clarification. Shyam (T/C) 14:51, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Memorandum for Wikimedia Foundation

[edit]

Respected Sir/Madam,

This is with reference to the current Wikipedia Logo. The leftmost jigsaw piece along the equator of the globe in the image has text written in Hindi. However the way it appears in the logo, it seems that it was created on a software that did not have Indic Language Support. Hence, what should be "वि" appears as"व ि". It is our request to change it as soon as possible to "वि" so that is consistant with the Hindi language and free of defects. Please refer Wikipedia:Enabling complex text support for Indic scripts for reference.

Correct Use:File:Correct hindi vi.JPG
Incorrect Use:File:Incorrect hindi vi.JPG

Signed,

-Ambuj Saxena (talk)

Hi seeing your interest in books and novels, I was wondering if you might like to get envolved with our as yet small (revitalised) WikiProject. There is plenty of scope for influencing things and making your contribution count. We are about establishing standards for Novel based articles and writing articles that meet our own and others high standards, and to improve Wikipedia's diet of articles on Fiction books, otherwise called Novels. Please be very welcome. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page) 13:43, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

While tagging the pages, I found that a number of pages require a variety of treatment including copyediting, “infusion” of fresh contents. Yes, I would surely like to be actively involved in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels. You are right as regards establishing standards for Novel based articles and writing articles that meet our own and others high standards. From time to time, I would surely try to contribute to the Project. I thank you once again for welcomning me to the Project. --Bhadani 14:03, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
