Yes, I didn't know it was deprecated. Thanks for info and sorry for the technical problems. I'll use {{cleanup}}, in case of necessity. --Dэя-Бøяg 20:13, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! Depending on the circumstances you might also wish to use any of the more specific cleanup templates (available in Twinkle if you have that enabled). benzband (talk) 20:27, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, of course. Thanks again. --Dэя-Бøяg 21:19, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
This is not a newsletter
[edit]Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.
In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 10:47, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
AFT5 newsletter
[edit]Hey all :). A couple of quick updates (one small, one large)
First, we're continuing to work on some ways to increase the quality of feedback and make it easier to eliminate and deal with non-useful feedback: hopefully I'll have more news for you on this soon :).
Second, we're looking at ways to increase the actual number of users patrolling and take off some of the workload from you lot. Part of this is increasing the prominence of the feedback page, which we're going to try to do with a link at the top of each article to the relevant page. This should be deployed on Tuesday (touch wood!) and we'll be closely monitoring what happens. Let me know if you have any questions or issues :). Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 14:32, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Adding to Rudy Buttignol's Wikipedia Page
[edit]Hello benzband.
I see that Rudy Buttignol has an article in Point of View Online. POV is considered to be Canada's leading documentary film publication: http://povmagazine.com/articles/view/pointed-view-a-public-space-for-independent-voices
The same article will be published soon in the Winter 2012 edition of POV magazine version.
Is it appropriate to add this article to Rudy Buttignol's Wikipedia page? I ask because he has written it.
Many thanks for any advice.
Sofiabrampton (talk) 08:24, 17 November 2012 (UTC) Sofiabrampton
- Hi Sofiabrampton! Sorry for the late reply, i saw your message yesterday and wasn't quite sure so i asked at the Help desk, and it really depends on the context. In this case, i think it probably doesn't need to be included, because it isn't a major part of Rudy Buttignol's career or anything; and i couldn't find any other articles written by him. The article in itself doesn't seem to be notable and the magazine doesn't have an article on Wikipedia. This is only my opinion though :) Cheers, benzband (talk) 13:34, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
Hi again, benzband. Many thanks for your thoughtful reply and for pointing out that "it really depends on the context." It may be important because as far as I can ascertain, Buttignol has never before articulated his vision for public television in a published document. I need to think about it more. Cheers! Sofiabrampton (talk) 00:28, 19 November 2012 (UTC) Sofiabrampton
- If that is the case you might want to add it as an external link at the bottom of the page?
- I'm sorry if that wasn't very helpful but it's about it. If you're interested in details you could check out WP:SELFPUBLISH, WP:SELFPUB, WP:UNDUE, WP:NNC, WP:LINKFARM, etc. but most of might not even turn out relevant to this particular case. I'm just not into pages of boring policies/guidelines/essays.
- Try to think objectively whether or not it warrants an inclusion. If it's just for the fact that it is the subject's vision, then as i said i think an external link could do fine (oh no i'm repeating myself ):
{{cite web|url= http://povmagazine.com/articles/view/pointed-view-a-public-space-for-independent-voices%7Ctitle=Pointed View: A Public Space for Independent Voices|first=Rudy|last=Buttignol|work=povmagazine.com}}
- If it's just to add to the "career" the fact that he wrote an article in some magazine then is it notable enough?x benzband (talk) 18:02, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
______ Dear benzband. That really helps. Before I read your latest reply I was trying to work something into the "Career" section and that may work. I do believe that the article is notable enough because it seems to be articulating a new direction in his body of work-particularly related to the value and responsibility of public television. I hadn't thought about using an external link but that may be the right thing to so in this case Also, I found that he did a public speech http://globalcivic.org/2012/10/24/public-salon-13-september-20-2012/ on the same topic. The production value is excellent and I could use that as an external link too. Re external links - I may need help with the formatting if I decide to go that route. If so, will you please help me? Many thanks. Sofiabrampton (talk) 18:49, 19 November 2012 (UTC) Sofiabrampton
Hello again, Benzband. Sorry to be such a pain! I tried to add the article as an external link and got this message:
Buttignol, Rudy. View: A Public Space for Independent Voices "Error: no |title= specified when using {{cite web}}
: Empty citation (help)". povmagazine.com. http://povmagazine.com/articles/view/pointed-view-a-public-space-for-independent-voices%7Ctitle=Pointed View: A Public Space for Independent Voices.
Something about"Error:" in large red letters! Will you please help me to fix this.
Also, I'd like to add the videotaped speech as an external link too: http://globalcivic.org/2012/10/24/public-salon-13-september-20-2012/ Would you help me with that too?
Thanks very much! I thought that I'd get them up as external links for now and possibly move to the career section later.

Articles for creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1834 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our help desk.
If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.
