Film lists
Can we come to a consensus then on restoring the film lists? I just searched for films in 1980 in film. The list has been removed in favour of the country lists. Then I click List of American films of 1980 and not only does it have a bloated release list with excessive cast, but even has 1979 films like Caligula and Stalker, which is a Russian film. Erik thoughts? It's just very few people comment these days at WP:Film. The IP reverted my restoration back to the bloated release table. All I want is a simple A-Z list, consistently by year and country! It is time consuming going back and finding the original text and restoring and even if I do that it seems like nobody is watching these lists and would help revert the ip if he did it again. There also seems to be a tendency on recent years for the big bloated release tables, I argue that even those should be converted to simple A-Z lists.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:57, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- Lists by year have only ever existed at the country level, and no such thing as "List of all 1980 films irrespective of country" has ever existed at all in order to be "removed".
- I've already raised the point on more than one occasion that YYYY-by-country lists should be organized by title first rather than by release date, but largely my plaints have fallen on deaf ears. If you're willing to agree with me, that's great, but I'm not the barrier to doing that — I'm the guy who's tried to get the lists organized that way, only to run into a wall of inertia, and you're the first person who's ever responded to agree with me about it.
- If films are being added to wrong years or countries, then the way to fix that is by removing them from the lists they don't belong in, not by complaining about it to people who didn't do it.
- Turning the categories back into all-inclusives that have to directly include every film from that country even if it's already extensively subcategorized for genre and length and other considerations, and even if that puts the category deeply over the "category is too large and needs some size control measures" bar, is not really the way forward, because that causes more problems than it solves (including the virtual impossibility of properly maintaining the largest ones because their out-of-control size makes it impossible to find all the entries that are missing from the parent and/or the subcategories — we need small and manageable categories for that, not 10,000-film megacategories.) Bearcat (talk) 19:10, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
- I mean 1980 in film had a general A-Z list which I restored. That's great that you support but if I'm going to restore them again ideally I need some sort of further support at WP:Film and multiple people watching them so if the IP comes back he is spotted that's all. WP Film seems to be much quieter than it used to be for discussions. I'll try bringing it up but doubt I'll get much of a response. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:14, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

My instinct to exclude this book from this category comes from my understanding of a phrase like “Māori literature” to align with something like: “But not everything expressed in words—even when organized and written down—is counted as literature. Those writings that are primarily informative—technical, scholarly, journalistic—would be excluded from the rank of literature by most, though not all, critics.”
(from britannica)
So I wonder whether the category needs a rename, because I suspect there are other non-fiction works previously excluded from it based on similar interpretations. It also currently carries the implication of Māori language literature, when, as far as I can see, all of the articles listed are about English language works, only with Māori cultural subject matter. — HTGS (talk) 04:35, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

tag reverted
Hello,
I noticed that you recently reverted my PROD tag on the Brent Blakley article. I wanted to ask if it's possible to create an article that relies on only one reference. As a new contributor, I’m looking to improve my edits and contribute more effectively. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Thank you! Rpgea (talk) 06:23, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

The article Coe Hill has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails WP:NATFEAT. "Named natural features are often notable, provided information beyond statistics and coordinates is known to exist. [...] If a Wikipedia article cannot be developed using known sources, information on the feature can instead be included in a more general article on local geography. For example, a river island with no information available except name and location should probably be described in an article on the river". The rather small hill seems to be of little significance, with no hope of expanding it to an encyclopedic article.

Michael M. Scott
I saw you deleted Michael M. Scott years ago and before I make it into a redirect to Michael Scott (film director) I wanted a second opinion on if they are indeed the same person. The Background section of the existing article starts with "Michael M. Scott was ..." but sources are scarce. I also just noticed Category:Films directed by Michael M. Scott. The situation needs a cleanup. Commander Keane (talk) 18:32, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
