Information icon Hello, BEEsummer97. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page BEE Japan, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. I flagged this as your name is BEE Summer and the article is BEE japan. Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 17:17, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Cooldudeseven7.
My purpose for setting up an account was to edit this page specifically, hence the username.
The source document which I have immediate access to is a 32-page trip report from 1997, which to my knowledge has not been uploaded anywhere. This document includes copies of newspaper articles published along the way, in Japanese. What's the best way to provide this as a source? BEEsummer97 (talk) 17:25, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Unfortunately, you must refrain from editing a page IF you are related to the subject. Are you related to the subject? WP:COI (or Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy) restricts this, basically saying (in a nutshell), "Do not edit Wikipedia in your own interests, nor in the interests of your external relationships." (after this info I can inform you about your question!) Thanks! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 17:36, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The subject of the article is not about me, my family, friends, etc.
I do not currently work for any organization related to the subject.
I do not stand to benefit financially, or in any other way, related to this subject. BEEsummer97 (talk) 17:39, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, hence the name. However, the text does say Do not edit Wikipedia in your own interests, nor in the interests of your external relationships.. I am a bit confused as the editing of BEE Japan seems to be your own interest. (not sure about external relationships.) In the event that you are related, you will have to disclose it on your userpage and have to edit the page via a COI Edit request. OK... since the page is not factually correct at the moment, is that the best way to proceed? BEEsummer97 (talk) 17:44, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes As long as you are not related/In COI and your edit reference(s) that follows the guidelines listed here, you should be good to go! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 17:48, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, still confused.
Yes, I am interested in editing this topic. It is currently incomplete/inaccurate.
No, editing the topic will not result in any benefits to me or my relations.
I am currently on the COI Edit Request page I think, per your recommendation above.
The citation would be from the final trip report which is not available online, so surely it will be flagged. How can I avoid this at the outset?
Many thanks. BEEsummer97 (talk) 17:58, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If it is not availible but there is an ARCHIVE of it, such as on archive.org you could probably use that. Also, you should only use the COI Edit request if you are in violation of the WP:COI rules, of course If there is not one, Please dont add it unreferenced as it is a violation of the reference policies and as you said most likely would be flagged.
