Why no taxonbars on redirects?
Hey @Awkwafaba: I'm fiddling around with redirects, redirect categories, and wikidata id numbers in taxonbars, and I stumbled upon this edit of yours https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Triceratops_horridus&oldid=948223484 at the Triceratops horridus redirect page where you said: "No taxonbars on redirects". I was just wondering why? I couldn't find anything prohibiting this. And there might be some benefits in linking wikidata. Could you explain it a bit more for me? Thanks. Cougroyalty (talk) 21:27, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Cougroyalty: usually putting a Taxonbar on a redirect would just replicate what should be on the target page. Most redirects that could have a Taxonbar are synonyms, or on paleotaxa there are many species directing to genera. In these cases, put the QID into the Taxonbar of the target page. Also, hardly anyone reads redirects, so they wouldn’t be looking there for links to various databases. --awkwafaba (📥) 13:34, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

Squash is a racket and ball sport played by two or four players in a four-walled court with a small, hollow rubber ball. The players alternate in striking the ball with their rackets onto the playable surfaces of the four walls of the court. The objective of the game is to hit the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return.

NE conservation status?
Do you still want to have NE (Not Evaluated) as a conservation status in articles you have created such as: Trogia venenata, Dioscorea orangeana and Pseudowintera traversii? The IUCN link used to go to a page that said that IUCN had no record of the binomial with a further link to search CoL. The IUCN links go nowhere now. A failed IUCN search for a particular binomial does not mean that a taxon hasn't been evaluated by the IUCN; there may be an evaluation under a synonym. Some years ago I removed some of your NE statuses, and you reverted me. NE status is used in very few articles, and I'm not sure if you still have strong feelings about including it. Plantdrew (talk) 02:43, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Plantdrew: when it connected to a page with evidence of absence, it had some use. But you’re right now, there’s not much point anymore. Feel free to change them now. awkwafaba (📥) 03:24, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
Can you help?
Hi, I'm trying to start a lichen task force for WP:FUNGI per the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Tree_of_Life. The template instructions (at Template:Task_force) aren't really doing it for me, so I start looking up histories of other organismal projects to try to figure out what they added to their code to make things work ... while doing this I noticed your name come up several times. You seem to have experience doing this sort of template manipulation (and are also interested in obscure organisms!); would you be able to help me set up this thing? I've started Wikipedia:WikiProject Fungi/Lichen task force by substituting the basic template but not much more. I tried adding "lichens=yes" and then "lichens-task-force=yes" to the WP:FUNGI template on talk of Verrucaria oulankaensis, but without it appearing in a Category:Lichens task force articles I tried to start, so am not sure what I'm doing wrong (and feeling out of my league)? Esculenta (talk) 01:37, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Esculenta: you’re right, i do have a bit of experience monkeying around on WP talk templates. Mainly swiping code from other templates and shoehorning it in. :) Do you want the lichen task force to appear in the WP Fungi talk template (as opposed to it’s own)? Do you have an image you want to use for the TF on the template? Also I think for consistency you should use Category:Lichen task force articles ( 6,887 ) as opposed to Category:Lichens task force articles ( 0 ) to be consistent with the TF name. awkwafaba (📥) 12:06, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Esculenta: I forgot to add that we’re probably going to edit {{WikiProject Fungi}}, so you can read up on Template:WPBannerMeta#Task forces. I can work on it after work. --awkwafaba (📥) 12:23, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the assistance! Answers to questions: yes, it should be a part of WP:Fungi talk template; for the image let's use File:Xanthoria elegans 97571 wb1.jpg; I resubstituted the task force template, using "lichen" as the taskforce-label. Esculenta (talk) 16:18, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Esculenta: OK i set up the TF in the WP Fungi template, it still needs the categories created. I’ll get more done soon. awkwafaba (📥) 01:11, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks again for the help setting up the task force – much appreciated (I would still have been struggling). Now @ three members and a couple of thousand items tagged! Esculenta (talk) 16:29, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
