As promised, here are some tips, sorted from the more important to the lesser 'issues':

  • The more substantial articles suffer from a lead that is too short. The lead is to summarise the main points of the article, and as such, it's best to write the article first. Once done, write the lead as an 'executive summary'. By the way, a lead doesn't need to be referenced (with very few exceptions); if it's referenced in the body, that's good enough. After all, the lead is just supposed to be the summary. WP:LEADFOLLOWSBODY is a useful paragraph to read.
  • Many of your articles are somewhat underlinked. Have a look at WP:UNDERLINK.
  • Your referencing is pretty solid, which is unusual for a new editor. When you use the same reference several times but referring to different pages, you use the Refpage template, e.g. {{rp|23}}. As the documentation mentions, the use of shortened footnotes is more common, as it's more helpful for those who want to follow up on the references. It's simple to use once you've got your head around it. If you wish, I can convert one of your articles to shortened footnotes, doing edits step-by-step and explaining via the edit summaries what is going on. That way, you don't have to read up on the documentation.

I'm not really behind the work (they got external funding completely without my help), but I've been supplying the wikipedia expert-knowledge. If you are thinking of adding more, might I suggest some of the red links on {{Frances Hodgkins Fellowship}}? It would be good to have articles on the likes of Joanna Paul and Marilynn Webb. Hello, I am working on a pet project to help digitize information about the field of metalsmithing+jewelry. I started with making a page for Art jewelry forum (AJF), and have a list of artists that I would like to make pages for as well. The AJF page has been nominated for deletion because it is questioned if the organization is "notable". I am reaching out to you because I saw that you edited some pages that relate to studio craft, and thought you may have an informed opinion (unlike the mathematician who nominated the page for deletion) about whether or not it is a "notable organization". Hey Clarefinin - I left a comment supporting the article's retention on the talk page. It's a solid article but doesn't really tell you much you can't glen by sifting around the website itself. I've been working on articles relating to New Zealand contemporary jewellery, a field I'm familiar with, but have focused on fleshing out artists, galleries and major exhibitions, and suggest you focus your attention in this way too, so you build up your track record. Devenport is the director of New Zealand's most significant public art gallery and a professional with a 25-year career in museums and I think meets the notability requirements - especially in light of Wikipedia's commitment to improving gender balance in its coverage.
I suggest reinforcing the article with references from http://innz.natlib.govt.nz/ , where a simple search turns up a number of articles with in depth coverage. I noticed you used a lot of NZ on Screen links recently. Please be aware that their status as a promotional agency makes them constitutionally unsuited for using as evidence of notability and they shouldn't be used for too many biographical facts. I've looked again at the page and I've pointedly used non-NZonScreen references as much as possible - but the links to excerpts of Horrocks' documentaries on that site seem useful to me. I've also looked at that talk page previously and while I can see that those actions in 2008 are contra to the way Wikipedia works, I have some sympathy for them and personally agree that they are no more a promotional agecny than any other publicly funded operation seeking to make New Zealand cultural productions more accessible and better known.Auchmill (talk) 08:32, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to New Zealand Wars. I noticed that when you added the image to the infobox, you added it as a thumbnail. In the future, please do not use thumbnails when adding images to an infobox (see WP:INFOBOXIMAGE). What does this mean? Well in the infobox, when you specify the image you wish to use, instead of doing it like this:

|image=[[File:SomeImage.jpg|thumb|Some image caption]]

Instead just supply the name of the image. So in this case you can simply do:

|image=SomeImage.jpg.

There will then be a separate parameter for the image caption such as |caption=Some image caption. Please note that this is a generic form message I am leaving on your page because you recently added a thumbnail to an infobox. The specific parameters for the image and caption may be different for the infobox you are using! Please consult the Template page for the infobox being used to see better documentation. Thanks! Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
