NPoV

[edit]

Hello! Wikipedia articles must adopt a neutral point of view, which (combined with the need to write in the style of an encyclopædia), means that adding evaluative terms like "stunning" to mentions of DVDs, etc., isn't allowed. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:34, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Two small comments:

  • If you write "See also technological singularity", I don't think the initial "T" should be capitalized. You don't need to capitalize a letter merely because it's the first letter of a link; the first letter, unlike the later letters, is case-insensitive.
  • The statement is misleading in that it may leave an impression in the reader's mind that exponential growth leads to singularities. In fact, such a singularity -- a vertical asymptote -- can happen only if the growth is not exponential. It definitely has to be faster than exponential growth to have such a singularity. And here's the really serious problem: the way you phrased it could actually play into the popular error that "exponential growth" merely means extremely or surprisingly fast growth, whereas a major purpose of the article is to say that that is incorrect.

Re:List of countries by system of government

[edit]

Yes, but please do not make dramatic mass deletions of content until you have discussed on the talk page. Note that the article lists "system of government" and not "form of government". --Jiang 11:58, 21 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Portal:Wissenschaft

[edit]

You added a link on Portal:Science to de:Portal:Wissenschaft, which is a page that does not exist. I've looked at the list of portals on de: and it does not seem that there is one that corresponds to Portal:Science. If you do come across it, please do add the correct link. Thanks! - Samsara 16:31, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Area 51

[edit]

Over at Area 51 you added "Since 1982, the Northrop Tacit Blue experimental JSTARS aircraft was tested here." I'm confused, because Tacit Blue is a stealth technology demonstrator and JSTARS is an entirely unrelated command-and-control aircraft. Which do you mean (or do you mean both)? Also, can you site a source which says these aircraft were tested at Groom? -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 18:55, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The European Council gathers together the Heads of State or Government of the Member States of the European Union and the President of the Commission. It came into being in 1974 and was given formal status by the Single European Act.

Hi! Thanks for your many updates to WP. Could I ask you to use the {{cite news}}, {{cite press release}} and {{cite web}} templates for your references. From time to time, web sites change the address of individual pages. Those templates provide more context (eg author, date, title) that make it much easier to find when the web address changes. Proper edit labeling

[edit]

Dear User Arado. Perhaps you've never had the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the appropriate use of the Minor edit check box when editing Wikipedia articles. Please take note of the following content from the Wikipedia Manual of Style page providing instructions on its use:

The guidelines are quite clear. Replacing an errant "their" with a proper "there" when such a spelling/grammar error has been made, eliminating a duplicate comma,, created by an obvious typo, or restoring an accidentally truncated > at the end of a close reference tag lost in a previous editor's cut-and-paste are all examples. More than that the edit is not minor and the Minor edit designation should not be used. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 20:45, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also: Please use edit summaries for all of your edits

[edit]

Agree with the post above regarding misuse of the "minor" edit tag, plus:

Information icon Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! Softlavender (talk) 23:43, 21 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Anchors?

[edit]

Curious about all the anchors you are adding to various articles. I can see the redirects, but the others are confusing... Montanabw(talk) 05:16, 25 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have the impression that you just do not want to let me contribute to Wikipedia. The anchors are there so that when you click on the redirects, you are taken exactly to the place where you want to read. I didnt put anchors just for fun. I created Safety stirrup and Western-style stirrup, and the anchors are there to get you exactly where you wanna go, and not scroll the whole article until you find them. The courbette redirect was working perfectly fine and taking the reader directly to the courbette concept in the article, but you changed it. Because you removed the anchor, safety stirrup doesnt take you to the safety stirrup, but you have to manually scroll down until you find it. The anchors i added do not affect in any negative way the reading experience, since they are hidden, they only take the reader to the exact concepts in the articles. If we had separate articles on levade or courbette, we wouldnt need those anchors. I only created anchors where there are redirects, otherwise i would not have put them there. Wikipedia is not my playground, if that was your impression. Please tell me how safety stirrup or other anchors reroute within the same article--Arado (talk) 05:20, 25 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, I was just very confused. I didn't realize you created two new articles. I guess this makes sense and they are invisible. There's an argument that safety stirrup could be a search and even a stand-alone article some day, I doubt anyone will search for "western style stirrup" ever. We could split the difference on that one. For Courbette, the dab police only want one link per entry, so I guess you'd have to put your link there. Handling subsidiary articles

[edit]

Hi, I think you're trying to mark Diffused lighting camouflage as a subsidiary of active camouflage? If so, putting main at the top isn't the answer. One can put {{summary in|Active camouflage}} on the Talk Page (not the article itself). Actually you can have several parents:

. Whether this helps anyone much is a moot point. We already have a camouflage navigation bar at the end of the articles; I'll think about whether we need to organise it a little more hierarchically. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 19:08, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Project Nike in NIke-X

[edit]

I'm not sure it's appropriate to link to Project Nike in the Nike-X article. Project Nike really refers only to Ajax, a SAM. Maury Markowitz (talk) 15:56, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you think it is inapproproiate, you can put it in the see also section at the end of the article.--Arado (talk) 15:57, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that makes more sense. Also, the Project Nike article will go away once I have fully integrated it into Ajax and Hercules. Maury Markowitz (talk) 16:03, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

[edit]

Sorry for any confusion on the V-2 page, I wasn't trying to change your comments, just to and the RM info to it. It's too bad that Andy had to throw his weight around, but I've had issues with him before ever since I was involved in getting a friend of his banned from the project. Sad. - BilCat (talk) 09:41, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, i immediately understood why you edited my comments, i' m less formal, even though i am from Germany. I understand there is some animosity between you and him. I only added it because the other user commented on it. This way the move gets listed at WP:RM. I'm going to stop watching the page anyway. Not worth the grief! And thanks. - BilCat (talk) 09:57, 7 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Would you be interested to help take this article to GA? It is by far the most poorly-cited of all the camouflage articles (in fact, it's a shameful OR-fest). It would be really nice to have a robust article on this topic - just needs a knowledgeable enthusiast or two to get stuck into it. All the best (and Happy Easter) Chiswick Chap (talk) 11:17, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but I don't even know what GA is. Happy Easter to you too!--Arado (talk) 21:55, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, sorry. "Good Article" status. All it means is that the article has to be decently written and properly supported by evidence (like references to published books). The decency is nearly there, the evidence is missing. My question to you is - are you familiar with the written evidence? Chiswick Chap (talk) 22:03, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reference on SpaceX for a section you wrote

[edit]

Hello Arado! Thank you for your contributions to spaceflight articles, you're always adding great content.

On this edit that you made about the very early foundations of SpaceX, you introduced a reference name "spectrum" but there appears to not be an actual reference, causing a citation error. Do you know the actual citation so that the reference section doesn't have a "Cite Error" reference. Thanks for all your contributions! Appable (talk) 17:00, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, i think refill made a mistake when doing the references and that is how it got this ref name. there is only one reference anyway, which is available in the text, i don't remember the 9th reference, so i will delete the ref name from the article.--Arado (talk) 17:10, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Now i remember, i copied the entire links from the Elon Musk article, where there is a spectrum reference in the text, but in the SpaceX article that is not present, so that's the reason for the error.--Arado (talk) 17:12, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Thanks for adding in the reference and all your work on Wikipedia! Appable (talk) 18:55, 4 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a real "market" for space launch in Europe?

[edit]

Hey Arado. Good addition to Space launch market competition to help show some of the European press on what's going on with ESA/Arianespace/Airbus Defence, etc. vis a vis international competition from SpaceX low prices etc.

I wonder, if you have European connections (and can speak other languages better than me), is there any sort of space launch market competition that is even possible inside Europe, or inside any of the European nations? What is covered in the press over there? The US events in private spaceflight since 2000 got started with changes to US law back in the 1980s and 1990s. I was at a corporate retreat in 1985 (sort of a Futurist perspectives thing) where a speaker was brought in to tell us about the new initiatives in private (what? we said.), yes, private, spaceflight. In the event, the market process, including the multitude of failed private ventures prior to SpaceX's remarkable success, took quite a bit of time to unroll.

Would it even be possible for competition to emerge within the EU? Or is the EU-wide monopoly provider of EADS (now Airbus Defence) and operations by Arianespace, and other rules and regulations, really prevent other private entities from doing in Europe what SpaceX is doing in the US?

At any rate, trying to understand this so we can make the Wikipedia better, and get more intra-national (and intra-EU/regional/supranational) competition covered. Right now, we're mostly seeing European competition only from the government-funded providers. Cheers. N2e (talk) 02:50, 25 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No, there is no legally prescribed monopoly in the EU by Airbus/ESA. But Europeans are much more into government controlling economic sectors of critical national importance, like space launch capability.--Arado (talk) 17:10, 26 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Launch cost, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo, or other unlikely search term.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. Your edits and summaries

[edit]

Your edits to Wikipedia are much appreciated. Wikipedia needs more editors like you to improve its articles.

One request: it would be very helpful to other editors if you were to leave a brief summary of what change you have made in the edit summary box near the bottom of the edit page. This saves reviewers having to examine the diff of your edit to see what you have changed. This time would be better spent reviewing edits from those who prefer to vandalise Wikipedia. It is a fact that those who are not here to build an encyclopedia rarely leave edit summaries and consequently, reviewers are almost guaranteed to review your edits. An edit summary would save us the trouble. Thank you. I B Wright (talk) 10:39, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Trivial "pursuits"

[edit]

Hey there, Arado! And for what it's worth, and for the record, you are not the first editor that DieSwartzPunkt has WP:WIKIHOUNDed. As that user's Talk page continually gets "blanked" rather than archived, this pattern can be difficult to notice, but the edit history is there nonetheless and I occasionally like to check in and see what's been happening. Honestly, I am surprised that he hasn't gotten himself banned yet, but I suppose there's time enough for that. In any case, know that despite the well-manicured talk page record to the contrary, you are not the first target of such an inappropriate pursuit (and probably will not be the last). Cheers! KDS4444Talk 15:59, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The only person around here who is currently Wikihounding is your self (as you have freely admitted to doing in your post - perhaps I should raise a case and get you blocked as I have done many times before with other problem editors). Also you are certainly in line for a complaint for harassment. But we have had this discussion before haven't we? You have clearly forgotten that the admins stated that I was right and you were wrong.
Arado has the very irritating habit of rarely leaving edit summaries which makes it difficult for anyone to review his edits which any and every editor here has the right to do (as was made clear to you by the admins). Equally: I have the right, as does every editor, of removing old and stale discussions (immediately without response in the case of anything from you as you have proven such a pain in the arse in the past). A tag has been placed on Category:Armored fighting vehicles of South Korea requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. The article Briffaud GB-6 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability - no sources, nothing on French Wikipedia for aircraft or manufacturer.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. When you create a page with a title which needs a disambiguation, such as Badr-1 (rocket), please remember to provide an access route from the basic title Badr-1 . Sometimes it needs a hatnote on the page at that title, sometimes an entry on a disambiguation page. Either way, without it the reader who needs your article won't easily find it, and some future editor might accidentally create a duplicate at a variant title like Badr-1 (rocket launcher). I've added a hatnote this time. Thanks. PamD 17:56, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Talgo Travca moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Talgo Travca, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hamamatsu Works

[edit]

Hey, i've seen you created a redirect from Hamamatsu Works to the Economy section in the Hamamatsu article. Usually the term Hamamatsu Works (e.g. in the Class 1000 Shinkansen article) refers to the JR Central maintenance facility in Hamamatsu, so i changed the redirect target to the Transportation section and added a bulletpoint mentioning the maintenance facility. Anyways, thanks for creating the redirect. Regards, Nyamo Kurosawa (huh?) 17:52, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Diesel-mechanical locomotives requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Future Vertical Lift into AVX Aircraft. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 14:28, 21 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

New aviation articles

[edit]

Arado, please use Template:WPAVIATION creatorfor new aviation articles. Ihave applied the template to AVX Aircraft, could you fill it in please?--Petebutt (talk) 03:59, 22 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on AVX Aircraft requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://defepizinu.ga/suspense/evaluation-of-us-air-force-preacquisition-technology-development.php. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.
