Flickr images on en.wiki

Hi! I wonder if you saw User_talk:B#Could_you_update_User:B/Flickr_images_at_en? or if it was just random that you made this https://quarry.wmflabs.org/query/42847. I think it would be nice if we could locate all Flickr images and move them to Commons and have them reviewed. I did a mass transfer years ago when I was both admin on en-wiki and Commons and I could clean up after myself :-) Now we can import files I think we should check before we move. Anyway I wanted to hear if you are working on Flickr images and how you do it? --MGA73 (talk) 12:24, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

MGA73, I did see that message and was beginning to work on re-running B's query. Unfortunately, the query takes too long on it's own, so I'll have to split it into smaller queries and then combine results, which is what I was working on on Quarry. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 13:55, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
Yes I had the same problem :-( I tried to limit it to 200 files but still it timed out. --MGA73 (talk) 14:06, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
MGA73, LIMIT 200 limits the result space, not necessarily the search space. I've got the paginated query running at https://paws-public.wmflabs.org/paws-public/User:AntiCompositeBot/EnwikiFlickr.ipynb, count to 100 and there should be data. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 14:35, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
MGA73, https://paws-public.wmflabs.org/paws-public/User:AntiCompositeBot/EnwikiFlickr.ipynb#Results now has the complete query results. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 16:02, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
Thank you! I checked 2 and one looked okay but File:101 between Wawa and Timmins.png is already on Commons. Will check more later. --MGA73 (talk) 16:18, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
I fixed the template exclusion and am re-running. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 17:05, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Pages with COSPAR ID errors requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. UnitedStatesian, I highly suggest you read the first line of WP:C1 and the page history again and reconsider your action. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 03:35, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

A message from 213.233.148.26

Please can you review Wikipedia:Files for upload#Albert Reynolds.jpg? 213.233.148.26 (talk) 01:51, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

User:AntiCompositeNumber - do you see any problems with the image?
Files for Upload requests are generally processed in a first in, first out order. I, or another editor, will review the request when we get to it. I only have so much energy in a day to dedicate to tasks like FFU, so I try to spread it around my various interests. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 05:01, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
OK. But what should I do if it gets archived without review? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.233.155.157 (talk) 02:38, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
If your request sits for 10 years (the current archive delay for unreviewed requests) without being reviewed, I'll upload any image you want. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:42, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
Did you mean to type 10 days? 213.233.148.28 (talk) 08:29, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

User:AntiCompositeNumber - I don't mean to impose, but do you know if there is anything I can do in the meantime? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.233.148.10 (talk) 01:02, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Could you explain why there seems to be a different attitude regarding copyright to scans of book dustjackets and scans of album covers ? Most album covers are presumably well within copyright, but are usually included on the Wikipage for the album, whereas your comments on including the cover of The Berry Scene suggest there is a different rule for books. RGCorris (talk) 08:29, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

RGCorris, There isn't really a difference between book dustjackets and album covers from a copyright perspective. They're both 2-D visual art works. I'm not by any means suggesting that the book cover be removed, just that it not moved to Wikimedia Commons. Under US law, just writing the author's name and the title of the book on the cover isn't sufficiently creative to be protected by copyright. The bar for originality in the UK, however, is much lower, with font choice potentially being considered. The English Wikipedia only considers the copyright status of a work in the US, but Commons also considers the status in the source country. For that reason, the file can't be moved to Commons until the copyright expires. My comments on File talk:The Berry Scene first edition dustjacket.jpg are my analysis of when the file could be moved to Commons based on what information is potentially available. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 01:16, 30 April 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi AntiCompositeNumber, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

Thank you very much! Bencemac (talk) 08:33, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
Hi, I think HoremWeb’s signature should be OK (it contains links for their user page and talk page as image links). Is this a bug in the validator implemented in MediaWiki or just in your tool? —Tacsipacsi (talk) 00:36, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
Tacsipacsi, I have no idea about the MediaWiki validator, this tool was created independently. I would not consider a file link like that to be an acceptable link, but please ask for clarification on mw:Talk:New requirements for user signatures. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 01:25, 5 July 2020 (UTC)
Tacsipacsi, the MediaWiki code is live now, so if anyone is doubtful about a custom sig, then it could be tested. Just try to change it a little (maybe add an extra letter as a test). If MediaWiki lets you save the change, then it's fine. If it gives you a red error message and refuses to accept it, then you'll (obviously) have to change it. Orphaned non-free image File:Delta Force Angel Falls alpha cover.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Delta Force Angel Falls alpha cover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:42, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

Can you help?

I have a request at both commons and en.WP for eight pieces of graphics to cleanup for use in Cleavage (breasts). Though the graphics are quite simple, I am afraid the risque and lowbrow nature of the graphics and the article is a barrier to getting help. Can you take a look at them? The article is very close to GA already. Aditya(talkcontribs) 00:57, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

Aditya Kabir, While you may not think so, you are requesting that the illustrations be redrawn completely. That is not something I have the time, nor the interest, nor the skill to do at the moment. There are only a few editors who regularly assist at the graphics labs, and as you can see by the lack of response to most other requests on the enwp and Commons GL/I, we're mostly busy doing other things at the moment. It doesn't have anything to do with the content of the images, most of us have worked on worse. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 01:38, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
Forgive my ignorance. I was hoping that it could easily be done with an auto-tracer, followed by some color tweaking, and then saving the vector as a larger PNG/SVG file. Ignorance definitely is not bliss. Aditya(talkcontribs) 08:11, 31 July 2020 (UTC)

A goat for you!

Thank you so much for updating our logo.... the old one, the one with the red cross, was incorrect on so many levels. 18 U.S.C. §706 being one of them. I am not sure how the wrong image made its way onto wikipedia in the first place since the orange cross has been in the description of our mark since about 1968, but am very happy to see the correct one in its place!

Fundraising

I haven't seen the Indian fundraising banners "live". I'm always logged in (most fundraising banners are only shown to logged-out users). I've only seen screenshots such as the one in https://wikimediafoundation.org/news/2020/08/05/fundraising-campaign-in-india/ and they look pretty bland. CentralNotice won't let me preview the banners, but the settings for the India-related campaigns appear to be 1% of page views (per browser/device), the large banner only shows once, and only to people who geolocate to India. The only thing that seems unusual is the fact that they're being shown to readers who haven't typically seen them in the past. (Ping me; I've given up on my watchlist.) Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:54, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Whatamidoing (WMF), I have also only seen them via screenshots sent to OTRS. The mobile ones aren't exactly new, they're the same long ones with a not-super-obvious close button that were first tried last year iirc. But the fact that I alone saw tickets from 3 different people wondering if we were hacked says something about them. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 21:09, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping. I think that getting some concerned messages is typical (and good!) whenever fundraising moves into a new area. People should be wary about unfamiliar requests for money. I'd rather have an obvious close button (but I think that about everything). Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 23:41, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Ed assignment template

ACN, that was great. Thanks! Do I understand by this Edit request that you don't have Template permissions? You ought to. I've only just got mine recently, so don't feel comfortable yet handing them out (not even sure if that's not another permission level), but you should request permissions if you don't have them already; I endorse in advance. Template-permissions evaluator, please see these changes, and the discussion at WP:ENB#Assignment template update. Mathglot (talk) 19:38, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, I've never bothered to request TE perms. Might as well do it though. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 19:41, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
