Hey, thanks for the the welcome, the links were really useful. One thing I'm not too clear on though, are changes like renaming and moving articles limited to admin? I only ask because on the first article I created, I buggered up the title and couldn't figure out how to fix it. Madashell 07:45, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Alternative system of voting

Hi.I'd like to know will my page be under search when moved to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MaxRussia/Alternative_system_of_voting? It's really strong, isn't it? May be it's even more worthwhile then many other "encyclopaediac" articles. Max

Your article will be a bit strong, but since it was moved to a user subpage, I don't believe that it will be deleted. Articles are not sources for original thoughts; though I don't believe it will be a problem if you move it to your user subpage and then create a link to it on your user page itself. Fourth principle edit

Hi andy thanks for the edit on 4th principle.

Hey, do you know if you can put javascript and/or flash docs on wiki??

Cheers,

Sholto

I don't believe there is a direct way to place javascript/flash documents onto Wikipedia, but you can always link one of the links in your user page to whatever place if it is on the web, or you could just copy the code and paste it onto a separate user subpage. AndyZ 22:52, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

Countdown Timer

Hi, I think you will appreciate on reflection that JavaScript Timer is really not encyclopedic. Also "please do not post this code on your webpage." is rather redundant if you put it in Wikipedia (and thereby agree to release it under GFDL). I suggest you move it to a user subpage (eg User:AndyZ/JavaScript Timer before it gets deleted. Rd232 talk 17:26, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

JPS?

Just wondering... I noticed your edits on the J.P. Stevens High School article. ;-) — Ambush Commander(Talk) 01:20, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Yep, I'm from JPS. You got a 1500 on SATs, right? Sophomore?
Heh, that's interesting. And you even know who I am. :-P Well, don't forget to sign your comments on talk pages with ~~~~ (that's four tilds). I've also added a welcome notice on the top of your talk page: it would serve you well to read some of the links. — Ambush Commander(Talk) 01:48, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
hey, I'm not that new to wikipedia. Oh yeah, I think you had/have the same art teacher as I did (you were once went to my class) and my mother said she talked with your mother. And from the sophomores in my bio class. AndyZ 02:12, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
I consider since September 28, 2005 fairly new... I'm surprised no one added a welcome notice on your page sooner. I suppose you're a freshman then. Well, nice to meet you. — Ambush Commander(Talk) 02:24, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

That just means i created my account on 9/28/05, doesn't mean I didn't use Wikipedia before! Fine, I am new, but I know the basic concepts. And I am a freshman. AndyZ 21:26, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I'll acknowledge that. :o) Still haven't figured out who you are (is your screenname misleading)... — Ambush Commander(Talk) 03:21, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
well, AndyZ isn't that confusing; its straightforward, but u probably dont know me. (I went to Woodrow). I've seen you at CTY lan 2004, Mr. Zhou's art class. If you went to the CTY certificate ceremony thing, my name is one of the last ones on the list, and I got the 2nd highest math score in the state (though again you might not know who i am).
I didn't go to the Lancaster award ceremony... and even if I did know who you are, I probably wouldn't have remembered your name (I'm terrible with names :-P) I don't pay attention to my surroundings at all. (By the way, since this is a long conversation, I've put it all on your talk page. Reply on your talk page and then give me a ring on mine (just say "Reply to your comment added" or something.)Ambush Commander(Talk) 17:25, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanx for your help in getting me accustomed to wikipedia, ive gotten considerably better after a while :D. Would you mind running over the article History of New Jersey really quickly? I pretty much wrote the entire article, and it is currently the WP:USCOTW and I've received some real positive feedback w/ it; perhaps it may even become a Featured Article. Thanx, AndyZ 20:30, 4 January 2006 (UTC) Oh yeah, how did you do this year on the PSATs?
First of all, I have to say, without reading it, wow. That must have been some pretty hardcore work you put into that article. I have to read it, of course, but it looks very promising. As the todo list states, refactoring will probably end up being mostly moving info to more relevant pages.
For PSATs... 80-80-67, a terrible writing score. Looks like a perfect score is still beyond my grasp.
By the way, you can create a new topic for stuff that's like, several months apart and on different parts. — Ambush Commander(Talk) 01:34, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks :). 55-80-69 (I did terrible on the verbal somehow). There was one freshman who got a 231 this year! AndyZ 01:51, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanx

Already a question

Hi AndyZ! Thanks for the welcome. I will certaily read through the docs. Although, I am a big fan of Wiki, I am still a bit comfused about all the small (and bigger) things one needs to know by editing.

One of these things would be an advice on the following - I have just created a page on European Disability Forum. The acronim for this organisation is EDF, the same as for Électricité de France. When I type in EDF in Wiki search, I am automaticaly redirected to the page of this energy company. Is there any SIMPLE way to make disambiguation for EDF?

Yes there is, before EDF was a redirect page. I have changed it to a disambiguation page.

AndyZ 23:19, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks!! That was really easy..:) (Feifs.T 23:20, 3 December 2005 (UTC))

Thank you

Thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia. It was very nice for you to take time out and share information. Auseklis 03:53, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi, just wanted to let you know what is up with the NJ flag image. It appears that it is a caching/replication problem. Depending on which caching server or image server you get when you connect (round-robin load balancing, I think), you may or may not get the image. Hopefully the cache or image servers should all get synchronized at some point. It should sort itself out sooner or later. One trick that seems to work though, is to edit the page, select preview, which forces image resize cache to be updated on the server you are connected to. Then cancel the edit and the pic should be there. Hope this helps. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 21:40, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Image Wikify

Hi Andy, thanks for the wellcome, working through the intro pages..would appreciate some help on image wikication...as you will see when looking at the pages ive worked on... thanks rw.(rupert waters 14:14, 11 December 2005 (UTC))

Sorry for getting back so late to you, I read over your message on my talk page and helped and made some edits on the some of the pages you were working on but I forgot to reply. It seems like you're doing a great job with Wikipedia articles. As to image wikification, it seems you already understand how to do it, but if you have any specific stuff, you can ask me on my talk page. AndyZ 21:48, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

Andy, thanks for joining the group! The topics you're addressing have largely been untouched and will serve to fill in inportant gaps in WP:NJ. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Alansohn 15:37, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Episodic Metagames

Hi Andy, thanks for welcoming me to the Wikipedia. After posting my article, Episodic Metagames, I got a notice posted that it needed 'wickifying' and 'cleanup'. I went back and rewrote the article and tried to be more careful in formatting. I can't tell if the current notices are there since this or after this editing. If you get the chance, I'd certainly appreciate some hints on how I can clean this article up. Also, I'd like to know how to post a redirect from a request like 'EPMG' so that it will reference this site. Can you tell me how? :) Thanks LarryinLA 01:19, 23 December 2005 (UTC).

Wikipedia:Guide to layout contains most of the stuff relevant to wikification, including links: [[ Link ]]. Generally, articles start with a short introduction, with the first sentence being: Episodic Metagames are ... (rest of sentence).
As for cleaning up, this refers to the overall text of the article. Articles should follow a general format, with an introduction, the rest of the article, a References, See also, and External links section. Also, articles are placed in appopriate categories like [Category:Games]]. Also, articles don't generally state names of authors within the article itself. Also, opinionated (POV) comments generally don't go into articles, and should be written to fit an encyclopediac tone. Also, CAPITALIZING WORDS GENERALLY IS LOOKED UPON AS AN EQUIVALENT TO YELLING ONLINE... In other words, the article has to be written slightly better. You can view an already written article for examples for help, like Computer and video games.
As for the redirect, created it at EPMG. Thanks for your contributions! AndyZ 01:43, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi

Hello AndyZ. My step-brother also plays the GameCube. I have played it before.

Also I cannot seem to get the "Magic Words" to work properly. In my profile, I typed CURRENTDAY and it displayed CURRENTDAY instead of Sunday. I think that I am doing something wrong or something like that. Send me some suggestions on my my talk page. Thanx ...

Robot569 00:15, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

12/12/2024. The reason why CURRENTDAY itself won't work is because it simply reads as regular text on the wiki. Instead, using the template format: {{CURRENTMONTH}}/{{CURRENTDAY}}/{{CURRENTYEAR}}. Most things on the wiki that do things that aren't just regular text have the {{ and }} around them. AndyZ 00:50, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you AndyZ! I tried it and ... it worked! How does the grammar thing work? I am not sure what it's about is it for translating or is it just for inflections? I need more detail! I tried to translate something into Spanish and it came out English:

I take much pleasure in knowing you. (That was the exact text.) I hope the translation thing works! Send some stuff to me OMTP. You can send me talking messages! Wow! I like Wiki because you can talk to people and other users. That's great. I like that. ("I like that" is the most frequent phrase in my profile and I used it when writing the now-deleted article called sub7 (band) which appears to be a failure now and I have not gone back and revisited it since it sayd something like" "View 504938274765 deleted edits?" Has there ever been an article with 7463685658364838565837271658374756568918829999956583746573848737162857573 deleted edits? I'm not really sure what number this is it is like numbers just flew up there. Well please review this message carefully. I have hidden some secret questions in here for you so that you can clearly identify them. Thanx... Robot569 00:26, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Hello AndyZ! I will give you the URL of the grammar thing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/help:Magic_Words#GRAMMAR
You said that was what you needed didn't you? By the way, thanks again for the help with CURRENTDAY (the currentday is 12.) Robot569 03:13, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
Yep, but I went to the page and it said it didn't exist... I'm just as clueless as you are about it. AndyZ 20:29, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

US Collaboration of the month

Congratulations on the USCOTW! While the word "collaboration" is key, this is a task for which you have done the bulk of the bluck of the work, and proper recognition is in order. Hopefully, this may bring a little more attention to all of the work that has been done as part of WikiProject New Jersey. Alansohn 22:13, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

Self-Nominations Policy Addition

As I noticed you have been removing quite a few articles from the Good Articles Self-Nominations list, I would like you to take note of an addition to the policy regarding removing articles from the list:

If you see an article below under "Self-nominations" that you don't consider to be good, simply remove it from the list. It might be polite to give a reason in your edit summary. In addition, add {{FailedGA}} to its talk page.

If you take an article off the self-nominations page, add the {{FailedGA}} template to its talk page. Thanks for helping cut down on the number of backlogged self-nominations. joturner 01:18, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Oh okay, I must've skipped over that line before. Thanks for adding the tags to the pages I removed from the list. AndyZ 01:26, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Tetra Master

Since you removed the good article status to the Tetra Master I am not going to reinsert it back. I messaged the user who was the primary creator of the article. He has created a reference section in the article. I would like it if you could look over the article again and determine if it is in good standing. If it is, please reinsert the GA tag in the talk page, if not, can you include a more thorough list (in the talk page)of what needs to be accomplished before it can gain the GA status? Thanks in advance. --ZeWrestler Talk 23:13, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

The labium argument

Welcome to Wikipedia (again)! I replaced your deleted sentence in the article Labium. It seems as if your main objection against the sentence is that it would simply be for "People who are interested in vulvas" (cough User:Alexander 007). However, your arguments aren't ground for the deletion of the sentence; conversely it results the deletion of the vulva in the See also section. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia has to be factually accurate. In fact, I added more to the article about the Labium and its "role". AndyZ 01:58, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome! I didn't remove that sentence because I objected to some of the motives of "people interested in vulvas" in that schoolkid looking up rude words in the dictionary kind of way. I don't object to that at all - 20 years ago I would have been looking for precisely that reason! The reason I removed it was because I felt the neutrality of the article was compromised by labouring one interpretation. I've since re-read the NPOV policy and realise majority opinions may receive proportionately more space in an article without necessarily being POVist.
I've reconsidered my stance therefore, and decided I'll leave that aspect of the article alone. Now I've had more time to think about it I feel my major issue is there is one article for labia (plural) and one for labium (singular). They're both alternative forms of the same word and have similar links. Perhaps they should be merged. I'll put it up for consideration & post this to their discussion pages here and here. Hi! TantalumTelluride has changed the reference style. May I ask you to re-consider supporting? If not, could you please tell me in greater detail which sections need more sources before you would support? And regarding the list issue – I really think those sections are not lists. They are just formatted with bullet points for easier reading; compare the sections, for example, to United Nations member states: That is a list. ;) Thanks for your input! —Nightstallion (?) 06:50, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

"The bullets in "2006 coinage" should definitely be converted into prose. [...] Finally, the lead is way too short. One sentence isn't good enough for a lead. AndyZ 21:29, 11 January 2006 (UTC)"

Both of those issues have now been addressed. Is that good enough for you to support, or is there anything else I can do? Thanks either way! —Nightstallion (?) 06:37, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi again! Could you please clarify what should be changed at the FAC page, or withdraw your objection? Thanks for your input! —Nightstallion (?) 23:12, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

On a related note: Could you take a look at User:Nightstallion/sandbox and tell me if the references are sufficient or whether you'd change anything about the article before putting it in articlespace and FLCing it? Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! —Nightstallion (?) 22:36, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

Opinion is not disruption

Stating an opinion and making a vote is neither "gaming" or "disrupting" wikipedia. Nor do I feel a need to seek the consensus opinion of non-specialists before placing a vote. There is a difference between a community standard, and a standard held by an individual. Fifelfoo 22:31, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

How do you sleep at night?

You left some very rude comments on my personal homepage. I don't know what your deal is, but I don't appreciate people that have nothing better to do than scan dictionary entries to harass someone such as myself, who's new to this community. Seriously, I thought the point of wiki was for everyone to contribute.

Apparently not, forget this and forget you. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dmaycock (talk • contribs) .

The point of Wikipedia is to contribute. By labeling the work of others for deletion as "attack" (especially Wikiprojects of other fellow Wikipedians), I really cannot establish how you are "contributing", or at least are making an attempt to join amenably. Earnestly, if you don't call labeling Wikiprojects with determined people working on them as "attack" articles that only serve to disparage their subject, or label Wikiprojects for deletion, I cannot understand how that is not "harassing". We're not trying to be mean or ignoring or rude- we want to establish a friendly community. AndyZ 21:31, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Is Punk'd "irrelevant"?

I'm in the middle of a dispute with backburner001 over the Punk'd reference at Lindsay Lohan. This user says it's irrelevant. I laid out the case for its relevance—with a rewrite for clarity—and he deleted it again. His response: "I did my part – I removed content I felt was not significant and I made suggestions for improvement when I was asked for them. If you are interested in working together to fix this problem, do your part and improve the Punk’d reference or give me a legitimate reason for keeping the reference that was in there before." (Essentially, "You think it should stay? Prove it to me and me alone," which sounds awfully close to self-appointed WikiGodhood, but I've been called dramatic already. More on point, "working together" to this editor means he deletes it, but someone else has to "fix" it.) This user's page includes as a goal, "[r]emove irrelevant/trivial content", but a quick look at his edit history is telling: on 30 January, he removed from WP:MOS a "reference to naming conventions for Mormonism"; on 19 February, he deleted "2 paragraphs" from Hiram College "to keep concise". Since then, every deletion of material has been a Punk'd reference, from Lindsay Lohan, Avril Lavigne, Jena Malone, Beyoncé Knowles, Mandy Moore, Chris Klein (actor) and Proof (rapper). After we blasted each other's antagonism (real or imagined), I threatened him with a WP:3RR war and mutual blocking, and backburner001 then agreed to stop removing the reference pending the discussion that results from my Request for Comment. No matter the outcome, your input would be very much appreciated. RadioKirk talk to me 21:24, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I've resubmitted Chew Valley Lake as a featured article candidate, because it didn't receive enough support last time.

As you have edited this page in the past I wondered if you would be willing to visit and comment/support on the nomination? Rod 20:14, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the personalized invitation. I'm not exactly sure how organized this is (I've only been doing Wiki for 3-1/2 months). I suspect, but I'm not sure, that I can just go to List of Governors of New Jersey (this week's pick) and just pick a random Gov and write an article? In the meantime, I'll do just that. I picked Charles C. Stratton at random, and starting it right now. -- Sholom 01:18, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll jump right in. BTW, I almost did something radical (but being a relative newbie I decided not to be bold. I wanted to modify the NJCOTW template, at least for this week, to include a fantastic source that everybody working on List of Governors of New Jersey should be aware of. It's at http://www.njstatelib.org/NJ_Information/Digital_Collections/Digidox6.php. Biographical histories and pix of all the Governors! May I be so bold as to note this right in the template temporarily? Sholom 02:13, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I was just surprised that our of 25 listed participants in the project page, only three of us signed up for NJCOTW. -- Sholom 23:29, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

Newb questions

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the welcome message.

I have two questions for you. How can I add many "keywords" so when an article is searched using different terms, they both go on the same article? Also, is there another way to contact a wikipedian directly instead of adding a section into his/her discussion page?

Thanks :) --Enigma 04:39, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Richard Ingoldesby, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

peer review of rapping

I fulfilled all but one of your requests and explained why I didn't do the last at the peer review. Thanks, --Urthogie 12:43, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering if you could continue to offer some other suggestions at the peer review. I'll include inline citations as I find them on the internet. —Eternal Equinox | talk 02:40, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Now that I've addressed the concerns listed, I want you to take a look at the article and see if there's anymore suggestions you have. —MESSEDROCKER (talk) 01:51, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Let's make it three comments in a row like that :) Any chance you could have another look at The Catlins now that I've tried to fix the points you raised? Many thanks, Grutness...wha? 11:45, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Haha, it's actually 4 (rapping immediately precedes this :). See my reply on PR. AndyZ t 22:52, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for those suggestions - I think I've taken the article about as far as I can (and I think User:Avenue's got about to that stage too). The government section's pretty thin, but there's virtually nothing that can be said about it. I'm still not entirely sure that the citations have been done right (I'm used to APA format, so I'm struggling a bit with this), but it's better than it was. Do you think it's worth a punt on FAC now? Grutness...wha? 10:37, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the help

Thank you for helping me correct the nomination. Only the second peer review I have started on wikipedia. It is a long time coming for that article. --OrbitOne [Talk|Babel] 07:19, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
