Images of Romanian towns' coats of arms

[edit]

Please be aware that unless you're able to demonstrate that the images you uploaded are public domain or their creator licenses them for use here, they will be deleted. Since we need those coats of arms, please proceed accordingly. Best of luck and Bine ai venit, romane ;), Dunemaire 16:54, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The copyrights of Coat of arms are usually not enforceable under American law, so it's ok to upload them. However, Andrei, it would be better to tag them as {{coatofarms}}. (BTW, Welcome to Wikipedia!)bogdan 17:41, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I see you started to replace the copyright tags with those recommended by Bogdan - Good job. For the record, where did you find them on the web? Dunemaire 18:54, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
They're in my collection. Some of them I found on the ICI website (www.ici.ro, more precisely [1]). Others, I got them from [2] (but just a few and not very accurate - he has them scanned from Maria Dogaru's Heraldica Romaniei). Some I have from [3] (but again, very few are usable due to inaccuracy). Others I took them from the mayor's office website from each city and then edited them so they are a little clearer. Some I don't even remember where I found them. I have some more, but since I changed the template for the Romanian towns, the top priority was adding the ones for the towns whose pages are using that template, so it doesn't look ugly. In the next few weeks I will try and cleanup my work and add some more contributions. Andrei Stroe 19:10, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
As far as I recall, coats of arm are not copyrighted in Romania, hence they can't be anywhere else. Most of them wree creating in the Commnist years and they were in the public domain (it was Communism, right?), and the older ones are out of any jurisdiction by now. You did a great job.--Luci_Sandor (talkcontribs  19:32, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Wouldn't it be nice to have a copyright tag that says this?(the "communist years creation = public domain") It would save a lot of trouble. Dunemaire 20:45, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Coa_deva_ro.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 03:25, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template Romanian Coat of Arms

[edit]

Salut Andrei,

I've looked around and seen that according tot the Romanian law, the coat of arms of public authorities cannot be copyrighted. Acordingly, We've created a copyright template which says that, and I would like to ask you to use it for the CoA you've uploaded. It is this one Template:PD-RomaniaGov and there is a link tot the law which says that. Good Luck. Mihai -talk 13:15, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion

[edit]

I noticed that you tagged the page Image:Coa slatina ro.gif for speedy deletion with the reason "Better version available on commons: Image:Coa_Slatina_RO.gif". However, "Better version available on commons: Image:Coa_Slatina_RO.gif" is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion, so I have removed the speedy deletion tag. You can use WP:IFD if you still want the article to be deleted. Thanks! Stifle 23:59, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Coa_focsani_ro.gif. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Kindly approve the deletion of your entry for Slanic's official website

[edit]

Andrei, I hope you will approve of my deleting that entry of yours.

As much as I would like the town to have an official website, I am afraid www.slanic.ro is not that. It seems to me that it's only an interface to sell as many admissions to the Lake (Baia Baciului) by the local concession company as possible (also, the suggested contact is by cell phone, no name nor address is given, etc).

I acknowledge that there is plenty of interesting information on that website, but still not enough (or at least not structured in the proper way) to justify it qualifying for the 'official' title.

I am sure that this situation will improve soon, thanks to the increasingly generous public contribution, at least in the wiki domain.

Thank you much, and best of luck. Ilav. Ilavuscaen 16:31, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Buna,

Dapiks 23:33, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Andrei. I'm not sure if you have seen my comment here, so I'm posting it on this page as well. Thank you. Dahn 13:15, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I see your point, and your project is laudable. However, this is one of the things I was going to look into next. This raises two issues: one is that we may both be working on it at the same time, which means that it may not be possible to use your version as a template for expansion (or, if so, only partially); also, I am working towards citing each statement made in the final article, and maybe restructuring it altogether based on what sources say (which, in turn, means that, in their final versions, the texts may only coincide very little). See his son for a comparison. I certainly don't want to to seem like I'm patronizing or discouraging you: if you still want to work on the translation, I can only commend your input. The only thing is this unexpected coincidence. If you should want instead to contribute to the other project, in any way you should consider necessary, and whenever you have the time or the interest, I would be delighted. So, it's entirely your decision. Cheers, Dahn 10:46, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Glad to have you on board. I'll pile up my sources and either sandbox it on one of my pages or, if you allow me to, use your sandbox. What I have done in another such project is to use the {{inuse}} template as a means to avoid edit conflicts, and that way we can all edit in turns. I have some major edits in mind, since I gathered a lot of sources over the last weeks, but I'll try not to hog it. I'll start something at the vary latest on Monday, and I'm looking forward to any contributions, comments, or questions. Dahn 20:00, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, and sorry for the delays (connection problems account for most of them). I've sandboxed it here, and am looking forward to any form of feedback. Regards, and keep up the good work. Dahn 19:40, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I noticed you edited in the article - where Bonaparte has copypasted my sandbox in what was a first move to delete it (yes, he must be a moron). In any case: I encourage you to edit the actual sandbox, if you should feel like it, so we get all of this in one place before we move it back there. Dahn 12:03, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I did some redlink filling for a related article. It seems to have much to do with Buzău, so it may interest you, and you could perhaps use it/link to it in other articles. And, btw, I'm just discovering the photos you took of the city, and, judging by them, it is a very nice town. Having never visited it, I had this prejudice about it being all concrete and factories. I owe it an apology. Dahn 23:29, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, Andrei. I was adding some info to Islam in Romania, and I bumped into something you might find interesting. In the "History" part, under "Early presence", in the fragment about the supposed tomb of Sarı Saltuk. I don't of course expect that tidbit to be anything other than pure legend, and neither does the source, which only lists these alternatives as proofs of a very bizarre tradition. But the very legend may be worthy of a mention somewhere in the respective article. Cheers, Dahn (talk) 23:52, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Miluani

[edit]

Hello. Regarding the move request and creation of a new category, I find those both unnecessary, and here is why. Some sort of a consensus has developed over time that on en.wiki, we don't do articles on Romanian villages, just communes; villages are sections in the article on their commune (see e.g. Brăduţ). If that's OK with you, shall we close the requested move, redirect to Hida, and create a new section there for Miluani? - Biruitorul Talk 15:24, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In your simplified map of languages there are some errors. I am aware that some other people have left comments of various omissions such as Breton and Sicilian. for me I will let you read those requests yourself, please could you extend the Scottish Gaelic into the top section of Scotland too, from the indent (loch ness, inverness) also the language that is traditionally spoken in the rest of Scotland is Scots, and so from the border with England please could you replace the current English to Scots. In terms of international commerce, Scottish people do speak English, but it is heavily influenced with Scots, and the official languages are therefore Scottish English, Scots and Gaelic. [edit]

No problem at all, Andrei! Let me begin by clarifying my exact attitude toward rowiki: I don't hate the project, I most of all dislike that it is an uphill struggle to get and maintain quality over there, this despite the commendable efforts from you and several others. Other than that, yes, I do prefer to edit here, but have nothing against cooperating - in fact, when I saw this exact translation problem you mention surfacing in other articles which "traced back to me" - that is, articles I contributed here that were translated over there -, I offered to give editors a hand in retrieving the original quotes, only to find that there was absolutely no answer to my offer (which is a shame, because I don't always have access to the same sources). I fell short of editing them in myself because it would have meant editing the same thing twice and then keeping eye on those versions on two projects. That I cannot really do, so in fact I counted on others to be interested.

All of the above means to say, in short, that I'm glad to give you a hand on this, and much flattered that you chose that as your starting point.

The easiest way for me to do this would be to render the relevant part of the quotes in the original Romanian here, for you to use and reuse as you see fit. (I don't use and actually dislike installing the Romanian keypad, so it would actually be easier for me to just render the sections with no diacritics here, and hoping that you won't mind copyediting them in during the process.)

Using this version, direct quotes in order, starting with note 10 and hoping I got it right; adapted to â spelling (implicit), where applicable, and rendered with the exact grammar found in the text (meaning that you may have to adapt the phrase which introduces them here and there); I used what they call "logical quotation", so where the punctuation mark itself is not within the quotes, it's because I only rendered a part of the phrase in its exact succession, but not entirely:

  • "caracter de confesiune ori de jurnal" (note how I tweaked it in the phrase, the English needs no "de" etc. - I'm therefore rendering the whole sentence here, use as you see fit)
  • "copilaria copilului universal"
  • "Intamplarile sunt adevarate, dar tipice, fara adancime."
  • "Personajul basmelor, al nuvelelor, al anecdotelor [here I would add "lui Creanga", but it may be superfluous with the more implicit Romanian grammar] se povesteste pe el insusi in Amintiri din copilarie, opera atat de putin populara in intentia ei."
  • "stabil", "senin", "solar" (actually "solarul", as in "solarul protagonist", but I guess it's safe to drop the article), "nici nu exista decat in descoperirea acestui concret mirific, traditional, riguros".
  • from note 21: "chiar daca socotim ca adultul infrumuseteaza, transfigureaza, 'imbogateste' amintirile din copilarie, cum sa nu recunoastem, la Creanga, sinceritatea in induiosatoarea evocare a satului copilariei sale?" (quote marks within quotes - I went "English" here, but I think the Romanian rule would favor guillemets; just as long as you don't assume the apostrophes themselves were in the Djuvara text)
  • "pastisa dizgratioasa"
  • "de prisos", "dramatic"

Hope I didn't miss any, and many, many thanks for doing this. If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to post them on my talk page. And please be my critic if it should prove neccessary - yours is a judgment I fully trust. Dahn (talk) 11:44, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Incidentally, glancing over the ro version: the template for the wikisource thing doesn't work (a script error?) and I want to suggest either removing the bare url from the other refs or unlinking the titles - both side by side just looks weird to me, and I don't really see what they add. Unless this is a larger format convention used by rowiki, in which case just ignore me. Dahn (talk) 11:53, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • One more note: "academic" does not translate as "academician(a)", but more as "universitar(a)". But you could go with "specialist(a)" or similar. I only use the English term for variation, because, since ideally we should identify what every author has for a specialty (or professional bias), three quarters of the people whom one cites in such articles would be "literary critic" or "literary historian". You are of course free to use whatever you like, it's just that I don't think the person in question really is an "academician" by the tight Romanian standards. Dahn (talk) 12:07, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks are really due to you (not least of all for putting up with my quirks). Indeed, Constantinescu is my translation from French, and I suppose you could do no wrong by translating one further into Romanian (especially since it looks like they only have one edition, and that is French); if it's any help, I can either provide you with the French originals or try my hand at translating them a second time from French to Romanian.

(It looks though that you've "missed a spot" - the "superfluous" quote on I. I. Mironescu is the "de prisos" in the original. When [and if] you say it's okay, I'll give the text a few other copyedits, nothing drastic: I myself it's good to have a "fresh pair" of eyes after one's been concentrating on a text, because some things otherwise ignored get a chance to jump from the page.) Dahn (talk) 11:25, 16 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Andrei, I'm looking forward to other collaborations, and let me wish you a Merry Christmas for now. Best, Dahn (talk) 15:48, 25 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

...and a Happy New Year. Dahn (talk) 21:35, 1 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bâsca River

Salut! Andrei, TE ROG SA NU MAI INTERVII (modifici, stergi)IN ASPCETELE CE CONTIN/REDAU INFORMATII STIINTIFICE PRIVIND RAUL BASCA. MULTUMESC!— Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabr ro (talkcontribs)

If you yell like that in Romanian, by no means you will make people think you are right. Are you sure you know what you are saying? From the mess you made of the Nehoiu article, where you added villages that belong to the Siriu commune, I take it that you don't know that area well. For instance, did you know that Bâsca Chiojdului is also refered to as the Bâsca River? And that in Wikipedia, using self-published sites as sources is not allowed? The article uses the naming from the sources it cites and was created as such by a known specialist in hidrology. Changing the terminology without the slightest summary or talk page comment is really not right.- Andrei (talk) 11:02, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabr ro (talkcontribs) 13:37, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

With what arguments? because I can make the same request to you, especially now that I doubt you have any knowledge of the area, since you can't make the distinction between the town of Nehoiu and the Siriu commune. Will you do the same to everyone who questions your actions and sources?
I also appreciate your Romanian, but this is the English language Wikipedia and this discussion should be understood by everyone here.- Andrei (talk) 13:42, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page

If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing!HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:36, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hasdeu alumni

[edit]

Andrei, I wonder if you could request at WP:CFR (or if you'd be all right if I made the request) to move to the simple Category:Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu National College alumni. Two reasons for this: a) to match Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu National College and b) there's only one institution with that name, so there's no need to disambiguate. Just like we have Category:Saint Sava National College alumni and not Category:Saint Sava National College (Bucharest) alumni, since there's only one Saint Sava College also. But we do have Spiru Haret National College (Bucharest) alumni, since there are three others by that name. - Biruitorul Talk 18:32, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is true, but you're right to revert

[edit]

Indeed, it is true, and this is one of the topics missing from the article (which is very nearly crap as we stand). I've first read about this issue in Zigu Ornea's Extrema, where he mentions how the far right vilified PC as cavaler de Curlanda (the bad taste was a singular characteristic of such tribunes). Apparently, it was N. D. Cocea who first made it public, though the info I've found on this is scarce. PC himself did not hide his sexual preferences from his circle of friends, and not even from a larger audience, but he was a naturally private man in a country of bigots. Once the article moves to "higher ground", this info too will likely surface, as it should, and in any case it shouldn't probably be in the lede. For now, you're right to revert. Dahn (talk) 13:57, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe my revert was a bit hasty, but that IP did the same type of contributions in ro.wp. I don't object to it being added elsewhere in the article (even with the quoted source), but not in the first sentence, that defines the subject: only information relevant to his notability should be there.- Andrei (talk) 15:33, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, and I don't think that the revert was hasty, given the current state of the article - much more is needed before the info can also feature that sort of info. It's a lot of work though, so I thought I needed to raise the tiny issue before I consider working on the whole article. Dahn (talk) 16:09, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here, we write an encyclopedia, not a web directory, so we cannot add just any link. Only links to reliable sources that add information to the article.
That one does not: we already have pictures on Commons, we have the coordinates with a link to all possible map websites ("how to get there"), and, of course, we have information on the subject matter.
And the fact that all you did on Wikipedia is add only a link this site to several articles is textbook spam.- Andrei (talk) 09:01, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Localities in

[edit]

Hi, any opinion on this: Category:Localities in Southern Bukovina, Category:Localities in Romanian Banat, Category:Localities in Crișana? On the one hand, these could get rather large (Transylvania has ~650 localities), and I can see disputes arising (is this in Oltenia or in Muntenia?). On the other hand, it could be an effective way of sorting out the country geographically. If we are to go ahead with the idea, there should be a Category:Localities in Romania by historical region. - Biruitorul Talk 14:55, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not necessarily a bad idea. If we go down this path and categories become overpopulated, we could probably break them down by historical administrative unit.- Andrei (talk) 16:56, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Claudiu Teohari si Fara Cuvinte

[edit]

Salut, am vazut ca ai mentionat in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fără Cuvinte ca presa romaneasca nu prea exista si asta face foarte complicata gasirea unor surse de incredere. Multumesc.cutkiller (talk) 08:09, 07 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I apologise. I am not a vandal please believe me. Galleries are not allowed? Why, because I saw exactly the same on France if I am not wrong. I only tried to improve the aspect. So I feld sad because those nice pictures were removed. I just did not know the rules. Gratzian (talk) 15:00, 8 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Galleries are not disallowed, but they are not good for an article either, and this is an important one for a couple of wikiprojects and should converge towards WP:AC standards. Basically, an article is not a showcase for what you call "nice pictures". We have another place for that: Wikimedia Commons. So, images should be placed near a section, when they illustrate something in particular, while their caption connects each and every one to the text. A gallery just floods the article or section without an obvious connection to it, see WP:IG.- Andrei (talk) 17:34, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi Andrei Stroe. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. Given that I'm the one who wrote that in the first place, I don't see much of a problem. Anyway, this is just temporary. At ro.wp, I wrote a lot more details than that and it made GA, so I'm going to translate it into English too, as soon as I'm done with the main article.- Andrei (talk) 18:21, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bună seara!

[edit]

Nu-i pasa sa citeasca, mai intai !

E multa inversunare si rautate in el.

Unde dai si unde crapa ! 2A02:2F0D:60A:A100:6DB0:AE14:5EA:18A5 (talk) 18:55, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
