City of New Orleans
[edit]Why you are adding this factoid to so many articles? Swan Lake, Mississippi, has about five people living there. Why does this trivial information about at train that doesn't stop there, need inclusion? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:29, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- I believe that Wikipedia should have the nearest active transportation link for small towns. A lot of old railroad towns have trains that pass by them and have stations near them. I can certainly say as someone who doesn’t own a car that if I were trying to go somewhere I would want to be able to look at Wikipedia, in one established and respected place, and not search the internet to find a transportation link. Transportation sections are also incredibly primed for expansion if other transportation links exist. If you have any discussions that discourage against a transportation section please let me know.
- It adds value to the page for those who may need or want a transportation wayfinding section, this includes me. Will I ever go to Swan Lake? Probably not. Will other people who may not want to drive? Not unlikely. AmtrakTraiNut (talk) 21:44, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- Where at WP:USCITIES does it say to add passing trains that don't stop there, and railroad stations 40 miles away? Magnolia677 (talk) 21:49, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- It says “rail transport”, and I’m not sure where you came up with 40 miles. Amtrak is rail transport, Amtrak passes through this town, they stop nearby. Where is 40 miles coming from?
- I haven’t been on Wikipedia forever, “rail transport” is listed on things to add. Some of these articles have literally nothing except the name of the town and state. I’m trying to expand these articles and contribute information that is useful for alternative options instead of just driving. If I’m doing something blatantly wrong please tell me, I’m devoting my time to help people on this site, so if it’s not welcome then I will take my time elsewhere. - Let’s also state the obvious, Sean Lake is one small town. That isn’t the sole thing I’m editing. Cities with tens of thousands of people have no transportation section. Certainly that is something that should be improved? AmtrakTraiNut (talk) 22:04, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
