Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:37, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

William S Lerner is a Fellow at the RSA. He was elected April 23rd 2019

Hello Alex,

I am new to this and am a fellow at the RSA. I have been published, with references. Please see below. Can you help me add my name? Please see my Linkedin bio. I devote my time as a volunteer in all my actions. I do not get paid for anything I do. My list of patents is below also. Please feel free to email me at wslerner@gmail.com. I have truly changed the world of using light for status and safety in new ways.

(talk page stalker) @William S Lerner: Nobody's disputing whether or not you are a fellow at the RSA. There are two problems with your edits, though: first, as Alexf's message said, policy dictates that people should not be added to "List of X" type articles if they don't have an existing Wikipedia page. Second, you are editing about yourself, which is a conflict of interest and looks self-promotional (and if you were to create an article about yourself, that would be a autobiography, which also are strongly discouraged). In general, you should not write or edit articles related to yourself. You are encouraged to contribute to articles in your area of expertise, just be mindful of the policies I linked above. creffett (talk) 15:17, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
I am not saying it does not belong in the article. I said red links do not belong. An article has to be written prior to be added to the list. New: Found an article at William S Lerner. That is the one to be linked. Now for you adding it , it is problematic as it is a clear conflict of interest and we do take those seriously to maintain neutrality. If you have any questions about how Wikipedia works, please ask at the Tea House. (refs removed as they do not belong in talk pages) -- Alexf(talk) 15:22, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
He's softblocked now because he needs to prove his identity. Did my ping to you from User talk:William S Lerner work, Alex? Bishonen | talk 15:49, 1 September 2019 (UTC).

Solaire Resort & Casino [Page Locked]

Hi Alex, we appreciate you locking the website for editing due to persistent vandalism. However, the statement of false claim still resides on the text body, can you help us remove these lines:

URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solaire_Resort_%26_Casino

Overview:

The project required an investment commitment of $1.2 billion pursuant to a casino license from PAGCOR of which $210 million was invested by Private Equity company Ulatan Holdings, Inc. Which is headed by Jeffrey Ulatan., President of the New York based company. [4]"

Development:

June 2019 Solaire announced former Bridgewater Associates HedgeFund Manager Jeffrey Ulatan would assume the position as Solaire's co-CFO.[11]

Owner:

Ulatan Holdings, Inc.

Thanks!

Could you please revert the above article to its original state, posted by admin "C.Fred" yesterday, until the matter is thoroughly discussed?

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.130.141.229 (talk) 11:59, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

KitSound on list of headphone manufacturers

Hi Alexf

KitSound is absolutely a headphone manufacturer. www.kitsound.co.uk

Do we mean that we need a Wikipedia page before Wikipedia recognises us as one?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_headphone_manufacturers

Kind Regards Justin

80.71.3.17 (talk) 09:15, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Justin, Nobody says it is not a manufacturer, just that it needs a page written before it can be added to a navigation list. The page as always must follow the Golden Rule.. It clearly says so on the top of the edit page: "No red links. Every entry in this list must have an article written in the English Wikipedia, with reliable sources to support inclusion, else it will be removed without warning". If you have any questions about how Wikipedia works, please ask at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 09:56, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

My Pharmacy

Hi Alexf,

You recently deleted the page I created for My Pharmacy for G11: ambiguous advertising. My intention is to create a factual page like Pharmacy2U.

I have disclosed my relation to My Pharmacy on my user page, what changes would you suggest to make to the page for it to not be G11? I'm happy to do any suggested re-writes.

Many thanks Yasir — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yasir My Pharmacy (talkcontribs) 13:36, 6 September 2019 (UTC)

Advertising is not allowed. We do have rules to follow, including the issues with conflicts of interest. Not even sure the subject is notable either. -- Alexf(talk) 10:18, 7 September 2019 (UTC)

Coup

Hi! Thanks for your thanks on Arturo Umberto Illia! I'm pretty new here and while I prefer to edit articles I might know a bit about, stuff like this is really captivating! And Wikipedia in particular has that added property of being able to influence public thought. I've found a category with articles that need copy editing and it's proved a nice little corner in which to make a small difference. Anyway, it's certainly great to receive encouragement from other editors, so thank you again. PK650 (talk) 01:45, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Hello, Alexf,

I was a bit surprised by your revert of admin HickoryOughtShirt?4's response on the Username noticeboard. Was there something improper about his response? Bruno Murari

Hi Alex, I'd like to add the previously deleted page Bruno Murari. I ignore the content of the deleted page. Since the deletion, Murari received the Elmer A. Sperry Award. Could you please take a look at my sandbox, in order to evaluate if that page could be recreated? Thanks, --PrinceMy (talk) 15:51, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

I am not a reviewer nor do I have the time. You should as ask at the Tea House for someone to review. As per the deleted previous page, it was way back in 2010. It was literally a one liner saying "Bruno Murari is a Brazilian actor". That's it. -- Alexf(talk) 20:40, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi Alex, could you please be specific about why the article has been flagged for deletion and what would I need to add to it to remove the banner. Thank you Guillermo L. Garcia — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeonGarciaC (talkcontribs) 22:25, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

The article has no independent, verifiable , reliable references to assert notability. On top of that in this edit you admitted to having a conflict of interest. Having removed the Prod notice you leave me no choice but to escalate to an AfD. Please make your comments there, and always remember to sign your posts in Talk with four tildes at the end. -- Alexf(talk) 23:00, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

I added more information and cited news and articles to comply with the references requirements. Let me know what else is needed to lift the AfD. --LeonGarciaC (talk) 00:25, 8 October 2019 (UTC)leongarciac

The AfD cannot be "lifted". You are supposed to address the issue, in this case by adding sources. These will be checked and at some point an uninvolved admin will close the AfD with some kind of resolution. The AfD, where you can comment is here. You can read about the AfD process here. You still have to respond to your conflict of interest in the article's Talk Page. If you have any questions about how Wikipedia works, please ask at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 00:31, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

News, books and magazine sources had been added and the conflict of interests has been disclosed on the talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeonGarciaC (talkcontribs) 01:02, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

Then please read about notability, and external links to see what is allowed. Future unreleased movies need a lot more to be acceptable for an encyclopedia. See Wikipedia:Notability (films). You also have a serious conflict of interest in that post. Also please add a new section when you start new comments in Talk Pages else they get mixed with whatever unrelated subject was there before, and always remember to sign your posts in Talk with four tildes at the end. If you have any questions about how Wikipedia works, please ask at the Tea House. -- Alexf(talk) 09:59, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

@Denisarona:. He claims to be an admin in the Myanmar Wikipedia (not really a thing as Wikipedia instances are per language, not country, and he may well be under another name, definitely not an IP). If that is so, he should know that and can use the same user name here (though he would not be an admin here, so the claim is meaningless). Just ignore. -- Alexf(talk) 14:32, 22 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi Alexf! I hope you're doing well! It's great to talk to you again. I noticed that you disabled email when blocking this user - was this unintentional, or do you have prior dealings with the user? @Oshwah: No prior dealings. User and user name strikes me as not here, so I thought allowing email was giving them another venue for mischief, and a waste of bandwidth. If they have a complaint or a comment, or want to request an unblock, they have clear instructions on the blocking notices on how to do so and they can freely use their Talk Page (until and if it warrants closing due to actions). If you disagree, feel free to change it. -- Alexf(talk) 14:17, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Draft:GraphBLAS

Hello Alexf,

You recently deleted my working draft of the GraphBLAS article, which had been marked for speedy deletion under G11. It was originally marked before I put in several hours of adding references, content, and reworking the language to be as neutral and encyclopedic as possible. If possible, could I have the draft restored, or at the very least have additional information regarding what was wrong with the article?

A prior draft was deleted by RHaworth due to it having H1 headers (see RHaworth's talk page. I quickly corrected this after creating a new draft.

I've read over your comments on G11, which were very helpful. Unfortunately, I'm not really clear on what part of the draft was in violation.

Especially when compared to the article on LEMON, a similar computing article, I just don't see how the GraphBLAS article is/was less worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer, either in restoring the draft or just providing further feedback.

ScottKolo (talk) 14:11, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

Oh, and I'm also confused how a draft which I had not yet asked to be published/reviewed was already flagged for deletion. I suppose this has to do with it being an article with the same name as one recently deleted? Regardless, it was frustrating to find an article I was still working on suddenly deleted.

Again, thank you in advance for your help!

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:03, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Goldberg

Hi Alexf

Please restore the wiki page on the late David J Goldberg OBE. I was in the middle of editing it and some of the text was copied from his website but I was going to reference it accordingly from newspaper articles etc.

It would be nice if you followed instructions and made a link to the page in question (item #1 of the clear instructions above). Asking us to do the search for you is not couth. Also signing your posts properly as it is customary would be also nice (item #5 of the instructions above). That said, I did the search for you ,and assume you are referring to Draft:David Goldberg. If that is the case, that page cannot be restored as it is a copyright violation. Wikipedia takes copyvios seriously; you should too. Lastly, you neglected to start a new section (item #3 of the instructions above). -- Alexf(talk) 01:33, 26 November 2019 (UTC)

Alex F Bit of a Bully perhaps? Seriously a shame for Wikipaedia

Revisions on Amber Marshall

Back in 2017, you revdel'd a significant number of edits to Amber Marshall. I'm asking for your services again. Over the last week plus, an IP hopping vandal has been vandalizing this article with edits similar to [3]. Everything from this forward to this can be revdel'd. Thank you, --Hammersoft (talk) 14:12, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

Revdel

Hi, I noticed you deleted some edits but then seemingly forgot to actually revert it... while the diffs would be inaccessible, the current version would, of course, still have the changes. -- Lofty abyss 00:24, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

@Lofty abyss: Where? Always remember to link as I've no idea what you are talking about. -- Alexf(talk) 00:26, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
I thought it might be a more generic issue, but it was this that prompted this. --Lofty abyss 00:29, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Ravidas article

Sir, unsourced POV pushing and removal of sources has commenced on the Ravidas article, which you've protected in the past. Needs to be protected again it seems. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:10, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

Clarification on list page

On List of motorcycle manufacturers, you placed a link to Wikipedia:WTAF after you removed the items that were not linked. I am confused as to why the items were removed from the list. Both the link you placed along with the instructions on the article outline that 'red links' will be removed. It does not state that items that are not linked will be removed. If you could provide some clarification, that would be most helpful. — Mr Xaero ☎️ 04:33, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

@Mr Xaero:. Fixed the notice. I understand why it might seem confusing. The point is a list is not an article, and does not have the room (if you unclutter) to assert notability for each entry. That is what the articles are supposed to do. Just names with no links won't do, else anyone could make real-sounding entries that point nowhere and you would have no idea they were fakes. -- Alexf(talk) 10:14, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
@Alexf:: No problem and thanks for updating the wording for the list articles. — Mr Xaero ☎️ 11:16, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

Your help is requested at this pt translation

Hi Alex,

I just wanted to ask if you could help out at Draft:Operation Car Wash investigations? This is a translation in progress of this pt-wiki article, and your knowledge of Portuguese would be helpful. There's also a Talk page with open questions that could use feedback from more editors. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 20:34, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Looks like a big job. I am currently doing Spanish translations from es.WP so time is not easy to get. I'll take a look and help where I can. -- Alexf(talk) 22:28, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Every little bit helps. Do you need help with the Spanish? What’s the topic area? Mathglot (talk) 22:57, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
Nah, no help needed with Spanish, thanks. I have been doing a whole list of translations of articles on Argentine history: User:Alexf/ToDo
As it happens, I’ve done a couple of similar things; see e.g. Revolution of 11 September 1852. Proofreading/expansion always welcome. We should at least add a short description to replace the wordy Wikidata default; and three (tagged) sections are still raw. Mathglot (talk) 01:13, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well A. MarnetteD|Talk 19:36, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
