Fair use rationale for File:Cheburashka.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Cheburashka.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:28, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

NRHP and your bot
Hi, Alex. Is there a reason the recently added NRHP rules weren't taken account of in the latest bot run? I put "NRHP" at the end of the master list (though now it's moved up into alphabetical order), but the bot still didn't acknowledge it. Is there any reason? Thanks! --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 15:25, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
- The bot reads its configuratiopn files at the beginning and runs for about 36h. I guess it read the configuration without NRHP in the last cycle. Please wait until the new cycle Alex Bakharev (talk) 21:01, 9 July 2010 (UTC)
- Is a cycle both archiving and adding, or is each considered its own cycle? NRHP was added to User:AlexNewArtBot/Master at 23:37, July 7, 2010, and the first "from bot" edit the bot made wasn't until 22:50, July 8, 2010, nearly 24 hours later. As for the "archived" edits, they started at 18:07, July 7, 2010, so if archiving then adding is a single cycle, that makes sense. If not there's something wrong here, and waiting for the next cycle would just be a waste of time. Just bringing the dates/times to your attention since I don't know exactly what a cycle is. Thanks! --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 21:09, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:BTR-90.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:BTR-90.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Solid State Survivor (talk) 07:31, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Bot question
Hi, Alex! I remember that when you first started to program the NewArt bot, you mentioned that there was no easy way to detect new articles which were created from redirects. From what I see, the bot still ignores those. Just wanted to point out that it may be possible now, since all redirects-turned-articles are now tagged by the Edit Filter (here's an example). Do you think you could make use of this new feature? Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); September 23, 2010; 13:31 (UTC)

Hi Alex, could you do me a cross-wiki favour? Could you please read (or at least skim) this article: [1] and offer an opinion about whether it seems to be really biased or dishonest? And could you comment here:[2] about that (or, if you wish, create your own section in the talk page)? I know it might be a bit time consuming and it's cetainly understandable if you don't want to do it, but it would be helpful to get an uninvolved opinion as to whether this article is biased enough to be unacceptable for wikipedia, as some people are claiming. It's already been deeemed reliable by 2 uninvolved people on the reliability noticeboard (see here:[3]) but now its bias is being questioned. Thank you!Faustian (talk) 11:52, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Article of Andre Geim, winner of Nobel Prize
Hi, I am a foreigner and a simple reader of Wikipedia. Thank you very much for your job. Frankly say, Editing article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andre_Geim, is in a wrong way, by colluding of some editors and admins there. Their IDs are: Therexbanner, Gladsmile, Narking, Christopher Connor, RobertMfromLI, NickCT, Beetstra, 7. These Users are trying by reverting correct edits of the article, and doing a sort of anagram and "misusing" information in sources, show Mr. Andre Geim (winner of 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics) is not a Jewish and he has another ethnic. They seem like pure (but a bit hidden)vandalism. All correct RS sources, like:
- http://www.scientific-computing.com/features/feature.php?feature_id=1, - http://www.russia-ic.com/education_science/science/breakthrough/1176/, - http://www.forward.com/articles/131944/ - http://www.gazeta.ru/science/2010/10/07_a_3426604.shtml - http://www.kfki.hu/chemonet/osztaly/kemia/ih.pdf - http://onnes.ph.man.ac.uk/~geim/pt.html - http://www.forward.com/articles/131944/ - http://www.russia-ic.com/education_science/science/breakthrough/1176/ - …
clearly show that Mr. Andre Geim is a Jewish (he repeatedly mentioned about his Jewishness, [subject of self-identification]) in ethnical
point of view and his family was originated from Germany(he also several times mentioned that his family are German [origin]).
Nowadays German is a general word, which could means: Citizenship, Nationality, Origin, residentship, and so on. When Geim is taking
about German being of his family, clearly and logically he talks about their origin before emigration to Russia.
There is the same situation about Richard Feynman: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Feynman.
By the way in a reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Andre_Geim_interview_to_Yedioth_Ahronoth,_Oct_15_2010,_p._25.jpg, (that
several times misused by above Users) Geim also said a story concerning Jewishness (clearly in religious point of view) of his
grandmother, that of course it doesn’t mean that only his grandmother was a Jewish.
Now in article as I checked the history of the article, above Users by reverting the correct edits there, try to present and show by their
wrong way Mr. Geim an “ethnic” German person. The point is that in any RS sources, Geim hasn’t say that he has such ethnic, and he
never used word “ethnic” there.
Andre Geim won the Nobel Prize in the beginning of October; unfortunately, right after his winning until now, above Users kept the text
of the article in a wrong position.
In any case, if you have time, please check this Users carefully. By the way USER:Gladsmile, repeatedly reverted and undid the edits
there, without any explanation(even wrong one). Personaly, seems like an extrimist Vandalism. Best —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexander468 (talk • contribs) 16:29, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Bot stopped?
Hi Alex, If you are away I guess you may not get this message for a while, but I wanted to let you know that at Project Gastropods we have not gotten any new listings from AlexNewArtBot for the last 5 days. I miss them because I really rely on them. Many thanks, Invertzoo (talk) 14:01, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Primakov Origin
Alex, Can you take a look at the second reference sited in the Primakov article? I think the information presented about Primakov's origin is credible and sufficient enough to change the information about his ethnicity. References 2 and 3 both support this finding. Do you agree?

Article not appearing in list of new articles
I created the article Röhss family on 23:56, 28 November 2010. A little later I moved it to Röhss (not sure this was a good move; I may move it back).
Now when I look at the recently posted version of User:AlexNewArtBot/SwedenSearchResult, I don't see this article there. The articles Harald Hjärne and Ragnar Josephson, created earlier the same day, are there, as is Carl Bildt (1850-1931), posted on the 30 December, but not Röhss.
It seems that the move somehow hid the article from being detected by the bot. or is there another answer to why this happens? Can it be fixed?
Articles being moved shortly after creation is probably not unusual, for a variety of reasons: misspellings, miscapitalizations, adjusting the the title to the scope of an article after some reshuffling of material, better English translation of a foreign term, etc. --Hegvald (talk) 10:49, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

I am hardly an uninvolved administrator on Talk:Holodomor, so I cannot use WP:DIGWUREN. According to my experience WP:DIGWUREN sanctions are rarely netto-positive, so I am trying to avoid issuing them anyway. You can contact an uninvolved administrator and he might consider an action. In my own opinion the discussion on Talk:Holodomor is within the pale, so I would not apply administrative tools here, although it is probably worth to make a warning. Artem is obviously of a different opinion, he was telling that he thinks that "many participants of the discussion (including the originator of this thread) deserve blocking. And calling a break in the battle would be advantageous". As I said before I disagree with him Alex Bakharev (talk) 02:18, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Dispute mediation
Hello, Alex.
I am currently engaged in a rather unpleasant dispute with User:Gmw112252 over the reversion of unencyclopaedic material from the page Ukrainische Hilfspolizei. This user has ignored polite requests from me to revise what was written, but flatly and uncivilly refused, preferring instead to edit-war. He also displays a strong battlefield mentality and never assumes good faith, denouncing those that disagree with him as part of some Ukrainian Holocaust-revisionism conspiracy. Since you are as yet uninvolved, I ask you to please help here.
Regards,
Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 23:11, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Alex. Schools is a vast project but at the moment in spite of over 300 members, I appear to be the only caretaker. I urgently need to track all newly arriving school articles. All the articles that arrive are generally uncategorised, unstubbed, and have no project templates on the talk page. I am only able to catch new pages by accident. I've looked at your AlexBot system, but I know nothing about regular expressions. Would you be able to you set this up for me? I could tell you the specific key words and I can create the destination page. I hope you can help. --Kudpung (talk) 07:38, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
Deletions
Hi, Alex. Woland1234 deleted the relevant categories and assertions from the articles:
- deleted Category:Phenomenologists from the article about the director of the Institute of Phenomenological Studies;
- deleted Category:Libertarian socialist organisations from the article Zapatista Army of National Liberation;
- deleted the assertion that Frantz Fanon was considered an important existentialist; this assertion was confirmed by source;
- deleted Category:Existentialists from the article Frantz Fanon;
- and so on and so forth.
I think Woland1234 deserves something special.Psychiatrick (talk) 22:40, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

An appeal for NewArtBot
Please please consider setting the newartbot on the toolserver so that it may run on a daily basis if possible. That or allow another editor to run the bot in your absence. Your bot is one of the most important that runs on WP. It saves countless hours in having to chase down unassessed articles months later. For wp:ships we average at least 10 new articles per day; over 300 per month and your bot is a huge asset. Brad (talk) 07:55, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Problem with New Article Bot
I was going through the archives of your bot's output at User:AlexNewArtBot/NRHPSearchResult today, tagging articles for our project when I noticed that the archives are massive... so massive in fact that they exceed the post-expansion transclude size limit by a large amount. I thought it might just be an NRHP issue, but looking through Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded, it seems to be a widespread problem. Perhaps you should lower the limit on the size of these archives? I've fixed the NRHP ones, which resulted in filling up the then current archive3 and overflowing into a new archive4. In archives 1 and 2, I had to reduce the overall size of the page from 100K+ down to about 85K. I would suggest that if you judge the limit of these archive pages by size alone that you reduce the number from 100K to 80K to fix the problem. What is to be done about all the archives that are already affected remains unanswered. I was just bringing this to your attention. Thanks for the awesome bot!--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 23:33, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Serebryakova Harvest 1915.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Serebryakova Harvest 1915.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. About NewArtBot
Hi Alex. I hope you are enjoying your vacation. I wanted to ask if NewArtBot can be adjusted so it always runs through the entire list of Projects? I think it fairly often stops before it gets to WikiProject Gastropods so we get no results. Currently we have not had any results since Dec 22nd. I rely on the results of your bot, not only so that I can fix up new gastropod articles and add them to the project but also so that I can identify new users and invite them to join the project. I would also endorse User:Brad's suggestion that it would be wonderful to have the bot run every day if at all possible. MAny thanks for your bot, Invertzoo (talk) 13:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

New Years Message for WikiProject United States
With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions or you can always post something on the projects talk page. --Kumioko (talk) 02:35, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:RTS2
A tag has been placed on Template:RTS2 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Mikhail Kalinin
I see your revert, but do you have a page number for this bizzare defector claim about Kalinin [8]? IMHO, this isn't the kind of content most appropriate for encyclopedia, but it should definitely be removed if it can't be properly referenced anyway. Zloyvolsheb (talk) 01:45, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Our city
Hi, Alex!
I was pleasantly surprised to meet somebody from a known city working mostly for en-wiki. It's great that you find time to keep your keen eye at its history, and I fully agree with your comment upon some input of the recent user from L. A..
I reverted undid the latter edit he made after you, however I cannot but agree with one of your userboxes saying edit/revert wars are disruptive whatever warfare is used. Yet something is to be done. Taking your memo
the phrase is too long and of dubious historical correctness. The city was certainly build by civilians
as a starting point, I consider verifiable facts to be the most powerful 'weapons'. Passing to this statement:
The city was built by conscripted peasants from all over Russia; a certain part of Swedish prisoners of war were also involved in some years
How do you think, what about adding there some exact figures of conscripted peasants from the reliable encyclopedic sources? (I may do that). In this light even the statement "certain" about 'Swedish prisoners' shall look more than a hyperbole.
Generally the whole Swedish source exaggerates the role of their "POWs" in the construction of Petersburg. It seems to be biased and thus unreliable. It becomes obvious if one shall take POW figures for the northern campaigns of Great Northern War (sending Swedes on foot to Petersburg from Poltava looks ridiculous). Comparing them to tens of thousands of peasants sent annually from continental Russia shall help to understand that even mentioning Swedish POWs among construction teams is nothing than a marginal POV-pushing.
All POWs need a strong guard 24 hours a day. Where to jail them? Peter and Paul Fortress is under construction — be that as it may, but in any way aliens can not be allowed to approach such strategic objects! Otherwise next campaign they shall be the main assault consultants to Charles XII :))). It would be a great thing synergizing our efforts to find a compromise solution to improve this important article. — Best regards, Cherurbino (talk) 08:17, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi Alex, I'm writing to everyone who commented (for or against) on the last deletion debate regarding the Keeplocal image template. This has been proposed for deletion again, and your input would be welcome. See Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2011_February_20#Template:KeepLocal. Hey, could you possibly clean up the rationale on this image/remove it from articles as appropriate? As I'm sure you're aware, each usage requires a separate, specific rationale, explaining what the image shows, why that needs to be shown and why that could not be shown without the use of non-free content. Template:Non-free use rationale may be useful. J Milburn (talk) 23:22, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Close To Home (Band)
I was interested in making an article for the band Close To Home. You previously deleted the page when the band had no albums and little fans. The band now has 1 LP, an official music video, and Alternative press magazine put them in to top 100 bands to watch. I believe their noteworthy enough now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jordan199311 (talk • contribs) 20:35, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Battle of Stalingrad
Thank you for protecting the article. In connection to that, and taking into account that it is being persistently vandalised by various IPs, could you please keep an eye on it? This article has been semiprotected for several times, but admins seem to remove semiprotection after some period, which, imo, is not correct, because the article is very popular among vandals.
Regards, --Paul Siebert (talk) 03:31, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- Admins are understandably hesitant over long semiprotections: they want new users to be able to be able to edit most of the articles.I have made it a patrolled revision for the new users indefinitely. Thus, the crap will be less visible. I will keep it semiprotected for a while so the vandals could settle a little Alex Bakharev (talk) 05:07, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- good idea. Thanks. --Paul Siebert (talk) 06:35, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Yes, thank you for that correction (Миллионная улица = Millionaires Street). Everything in the context told me it should be "Millionaires", not "Millionth", but my dictionary stubbornly insisted on "Millionth", and I don't usually have the confidence to gainsay my dictionary.
By the way, I just finished translating Barbara Bakhmetev. An odd article, and in some ways a poor article - many statements need inline references, for one thing - but such a sad story, and just what one would expect to find in the background of a great Romantic poet.
One thing about the article is bothering me, though. At the end of the article, there is material saying basically "See how Lermontov often describes a dark-eyed blond woman, clearly this is Bakhmetev", and clearly блондинка = blonde. Yet the portraits we have of Bakhmetev show her as dark-haired. I can't understand or explain this, and I considered excluding most of the last part of the section Barbara Bakhmetev#Barbara Lopuchin in the works of Lermontov, beginning at "Lermontov's description of his female characters..." Maybe I should. But it's in the original article, and perhaps I am missing something... Herostratus (talk) 16:59, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

The Bot
Hi Alex, maybe you are away again? The bot has not given Project Gastropods any new results for the last 7 days, and I miss the results very much. Hope you come back soon or can fix this from wherever you are... Best to you, Invertzoo (talk) 12:37, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'm seeing the same issue with Canada Roads. Sometime the results also disappear entirely for a day. Is it at all possible for the bot to run daily (if it's not set to do so already)? - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 15:06, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately, the machine I used to run the bot on has died. I have a backup for the source code but reviving it will require some work as it is sensitive to the version of Perl and installed packages. I will fix it ASAP Alex Bakharev (talk) 23:58, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

- Indeed, I'm really missing it. I'd be happy to help or take over the bot- I have bot experience and have been a perl guy for over a dozen years. (I bought Randal Schwarz a drink last summer; Ward Cunningham bought me a drink at the same time; unrelated, Larry Wall and I have had a similar experience with our corneas). I can either take the code privately or you can open-source it. tedder (talk) 18:58, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
